    What noise where you hearing after the mounts failed? Clinking metal? Can you share ? Thx.

      It made a knocking like rattle when I would hit pot holes and speed bumps. Luckily it was a fairly straightforward process to replace the worn out part.

    Just changed the rear original shock absorbers + struts. But now every little bump it knocks like I would drive with a flat wheel. Mechanic meant it's normal to be that hard, it only felt soft because the shocks were worn.
    But the rear does exactly what you described. It kinda rocks over small bumps, even in non-sport mode.

    Hello, Thank you for your video, I have a 2005 911 Carrera 997 and its currently sitting on H&R coilvers with an aggressive stance. I noticed a clunky sound coming from passenger rear. Car rides fine just the clunky noises when I go over bumps. Is this what you were experiencing when you decided to change the upper rear strut mounts. Thank you for your time and valuable info.

    Great video! Several questions. Shouldn’t you also replace the bump stops which appear to be made of the same material? Shouldn’t the front be looked into as well since they are probably the same age? Does this job require an alignment afterwards? Would be great if you could do a Motor Mount DIY? Very helpful info. Good job.

      With the bump stops you can tell when they are done and then yes they should be replaced. The front are a different design and hold up better but they can start to squeak with age. You definitely should get an alignment after this job for sure. I might do a motor mount vid if I have any issues with mine. The rear two motor mounts are really easy to get to tho.

    Excellent video, sorry my input is so delayed. I have a 997.2 and once again it has similar issues, the front top mounts last about 60k miles, the top mounts rust apparently and I have just had the coolant pipes replaced, from front to rear. It is still an excellent car but Porsche do seem to take some silly short cuts, mind you the car is on 101k and still looks and feels really good.

    Driving after doing your own DIY is the most satisfying feeling!! I wonder if your car was heavily tracked and that's why the strut mounts were so worn? Or do you happen to know if they tend to fail after X amount of miles? Also could you make the fast parts just a little slower in the future, just so I can see the steps involved a little easier? Thanks for the DIY!!

      Yes we definitely can slow down the time lapses going forward. I don't think my 997 has ever seen a track. It is so ridiculously clean for its milage and age. Most track owners also do suspension mods and switch to 18s so that all leads to to believe it's never seen a track. I think these mounts tend to fail or give out early. I know some German parts are made to be some what biodegradable which can lead failures like this.

    Hmm, I have had a growing squeaking sound that I thought was the rear strut mounts. I'm not so sure now because you had knocking which I get none of...yet.

      there are a few components that can squeak, but when these things go they really fail!

    Hey buddy how did you remove the bose system in the back ?

      That has been a while ago, If I remember correctly you have to remove the port trim on the box under that there are screws that have to be removed then you can pull the box forward from what I recall, oh and there is a electrical connection.

    Mate, I made rubber doughnuts to fit and reused the old fittings, believe me its much better than the Porsche yellow foam which don't last that long...

    "New to me"means you got it used, then what were the year, mileages & price?
    Audi, BMW, Lambo & Porsche 900 series always need parts replacement.
    Nevertheless, you are lucky you didn't get the 959.
    I replaced 4 TPMS for $77,000.00.

      I agree, I still think you should be able to purchase the rubber bit separately if that is all you need. Judging the condition of mine they should probably be checked every 5 years or 50k miles.

    It almost feels like Porsche implements in the 997’s design hidden flaws to generate service revenue.....almost.

      blkferrari355 I kinda agree with you. I love 911s but I feel like there are certain things Porsche did on the 996 and 997(to a lesser degree) to cut corners and not on the track 🤣🤣🤣. That little cushion part could easily be sold separately or made out of more durable materials.
      In my video about the things I love and hate about the 997 some people really get in their feelings about what I said. Even tho the the 997 is the most reliable and livable sports car available, there are areas of the car that could’ve been executed better(more R&D). Like the Key Fob and squeaky suspension, things like that. And...AND, I think the immobilizer CPU is one of the slowest I’ve ever seen on a modern car! If you unlock and lock most cars fast they just work. On the 997 and 996 there is a delay like the car doesn’t know what to do. Just little details I noticed, that I think most people over look.

      I really enjoyed your review and felt it was spot on. When you were talking about the fob....I was saying yeap. I freakin can’t stand that key fob because the trunk opens up due to the fob button getting accidentally pressed when in my pocket by my wallet or phone. My car also has a leak and I need to track it down but you gave me good insight and hope that it can be fixed. There is also foam coming out my vents and its annoying as heck. But all in all I still enjoy my 997. I own a 95 red F355, Berlinetta, 6 sp manual with carbon fiber seats but I dont enjoy that one as much because of the constant worrying when I’m out driving it. The 355 is strictly to go out for a cruise which in 3 years I haven’t even reached 2k miles. I mention this because in your review, you guys mentioned that the 997 was more enjoyable than a Ferrari and that was accurate. Anyways, I see you swapped to 18” rims, something that I plan on doing also.

      Thank you, we appreciate it! I have a sneaking suspicion that some of those people that commented on the review video haven’t actually owned a 911 but every so often I get a comment or email from someone that actually owns a 997 or 996 and knows exactly what I was getting at!
      Sorry to hear about your water leak if there is any thing I can do to help you sort it out let me know. So yeah, the foam from the vents we almost forgot to mention that one SMH out of every car I’ve ever owned my 996 and 997 are the only ones that ever spit foam at me lol it is random super annoying and kinda embarrassing lmao.
      One of my colleagues had a 355! Beautiful car, strange center console! We know a few people with “super cars” and they honestly don’t get to use them very often for so many reasons, all the what if’s lol. What if I break this carbon fiber splitter or curb a rim or come out from a restaurant and someone is standing on my car. That actually happened to a friend of mine, he came out of a restaurant and someone was standing on his Lambo but yeah....
      18 inch wheels. Yes, I had to the roads in my city are absolutely horrid! I wanted as thick of a tire as possible. I have been thinking of doing a suspension mod to soften the ride up more! I know a lot of people think of the 911 as a track car but I see it more so as a GT car. So why not have a softer suspension? IDK how many 997 owners have actually tracked their personal vehicles but I’m sure the vast majority never do. So I think it would be awesome if Porsche made the 911 more comfortable for long haul driving instead of track oriented.
