I have a degree in animal management and have worked in reptile stores for years, over that time i have repeated myself so much that i have almost settled into a routine. So i wanted to sit down and dump whats in my brain onto a video for people searching on youtube for help. Hopefully this will help people with what to know about bearded dragons before getting one.

A video addressing all of the shaming and negativity towards beardie owners would be good, fb groups and reddit is full of people shaming owners, because their setups don't match or conform to what they think is right, if the dragon is healthy, happy and well taken care of, should be important right

I now know better on the live feeders, my girl is restricted to only two live feeders meals a month. She is bioactive, so if she wants lives she can and does hunt the clean up crew. She has powered orange isopods, mealworms and their beetles, superworms and their beetles. About twice a year I will buy bsfl and seed them into the isopod hiding areas. I watched her today go for and get two super beetles. Most of the time she has leafy greens planted in the moist plant side to forage on. I also sow different microgreen seeds in there too. That brings out lots of isopods she goes after too. She loves catnip too, grown from seeds of course for my cats and gave her a plant of it.

    Hello Liam, 👋
I first want to say I am a New Bearded Dragon owner. I want to Thank You for all you do for the species. I am So Grateful I was able to find your channel. I have seen so many different bits of information on these little creatures but haven't been comfortable with any of it until I found you! I live in the United States, Michigan and we definitely have 4 seasons. Our cold season is coming and everything I have learned we are suppose to shut off all lighting and heat sources at night but I worry that it may get too cold at night here soon. What would you suggest the temperature be at in the night?
I do have a couple more questions but I'll wait to ask when you hopefully reply. Again Thank you for loving and All you do for these Animals. ❤👍💯😁

I heard your podcast episode with Beardie vet as well, was quite a delight to get all that info and backstory from you both. Keep pushing science and evidence. A lot of people love their dragons, but proper knowledge and reason will allow them to understand and love them for longer.

Excellent video. I really appreciate it. I got a two year old bearded dragon last week. My kids and the family are in love.
I want to give it the best possible care and it came in only a 40 gallon tank.
I bought a huge wardrobe thats over 5 ft wide and 6.5 ft tall. My wife and I want to turn it into a huge bioactive vivarium for our new friend. We have been watching RUclips videos on vivariums and people doing that. I know it’s going to be a huge project but fun and our bearded dragon will love it.
I have so many questions on everything.
Could I pay you for 30 min to an hour of your time on a video call?
Out of everyone I have watched you seem like the guy I need to talk to in order to get this right.
    Great video and thanks again!

I put the veg in the enclosure in the morning with my babies and they will puck at it if they are hungry then once ive seen them eating the greens then i will give them the bugs a bit later and you are so right that they will keep eating after they are full 😂 my babies like kale mine are also not bothered about fruit if you put a blueberry and a bug down at the same time theg will eat the bug and ignore the fruit so you are definitely better off not feeding them fruit give them wax worms or super worms as a treat instead they will prefer it anyway

I like to make feeding time into playtime for mine. I have her chase a roach, wax worm, or whatever really, even blueberries with tongs and she'll chase them for a good 10-15 minutes before she gets tired, and she gets exercise, and hunts prey. I've also been taking her outside to sun under my supervision. Usually she'll pancake and relax, I mostly do it so that she poops before I let her out onto the carpet to play indoors for like an hour or two. Usually I'll do that about 2-3 times a week. Sometimes I take her out early in the morning before I go out to work and snuggle with her. She's been sleeping for two days today, so I guess she's brumating. I dunno.

Loved this video, would have been so helpful and would save me a lot of time when I was just starting. I'm sure this will be helpful to those who're considering getting a bearded dragon.
Regarding the temperature of the basking spot, can you elaborate more on that please? I don't fully trust random sites for bearded care info so I read scholarly journals and articles and from what I've gathered they say basking spot provided should be at 38C to 40C.
For example this article (Seminars in Avian and Exotic Pet Medicine in 2003) says ""The preferred body temperature (PBT) for bearded dragons is 35 degrees celcius. Most reptiles have a range of 5 degrees to 6 degrees celcius to achieve this PBT - the Preferred Optimum Temperature Range (POTR). The bearded dragon POTR is 35 degrees to 39 degrees celcius. To achieve this, the basking spot provided should be at 40 degrees celcius."
Is this just simply outdated information? I've read other sources where they also say it should be around 38C - 40C though, so that made me think that the 40C to 45C (sometimes even 50C as you say) is too hot.
Would love to learn more from you as I am always striving to provide the best life for my beardie.
Again, love this video, I was hooked the whole way through and I would love it if you could do a Q&A bearded dragon livestream. :)

Hi my name is Diane and I'm have a bearded. My daughter bought it for her son , so I'm not sure if it's a male or female. I'm not sure how old. My grandson wasn't sure how to take care of it. So I offered to take it and try to take care of it. So I call it Jango and say it's a girl . I'm not sure. Any way I have been watching videos and reading alot on bearded. There's a lot of different answers so I try to stay close to what I've learned. So my beardie was denied alot of what she needed to be healthy. Which I have been doing my best to give her now. I'm still learning. I'm pretty sure she's sick some how. I can't find a reptile vet around unless I travel a bit. I don't drive so I have to ask my husband to take me he's really busy so I haven't found the time. Is there any way u can tell me some answers on what could be wrong and how to help her . If possible? First she does nor open her eyes very much. Once in a while she cracks her eyes open but barly , some times her eye lids are closed but it looks like she blinks . Second she doesn't move around very fast like I've seen other bearded at the pet store . She does move around her tank , bask on her rocks , gets in her water dish. Climbs . Just not very fast . I feed her cuz it doesn't look like she can see very well . Her feeding changes cuz I learn with different suggestions after seeing your video I'm assuming is more accurate so I'm going off that. But still can u give me an idea of what could be wrong. And can she come back from this . Please help me thanks.

I just recently purchased a bearded dragon and I’m a little worried about the behavior. So far the dragon has been with me for 6 days. It’s opening its mouth, and it’s just staying open.. like I feel like it’s trying to breathe and can’t? The back legs are always just like, look like they are pelagic. But he’s running back and forth in his enclosure he’s pooping every day. He ate bugs for the first time yesterday since I got him, but I have been feeding him collards and acorn squash. But he ate all the dubia roaches (50) they were small size and my dragon is a juvenile. So now I don’t want to feed it any more bugs for a few days because of yesterday. What’s wrong with my dragon?

Brilliant video! Lifespan needs mentioning more and websites underestimate it. I did my 6 years in the pet trade mostly focused with fishes. The underestimation of exotic pet ages I think is a massive issue and so many people often even kill their pets often by lack of research leading to some poor care practice even before the animal is mature. The number of times people came in for 'replacements' on a pet that was not even a 10th of adult size, not even a quarter of adult size yet the animal some how died of old age.
Costs really add up, I think snakes are cheaper but not for everyone. Specialist diets and high temperatures add it up more. Fresh greens if not able to forage or other pet diets. I have done vague calculations on heat costs where I can and I don't want to look at it again haha.

I am getting a bearded dragon from someone who can no longer care for them next week. I only a a couple of ball pythons and am weary about nothing but how they should be fed. Online I’ve seen different schedules, feed veg every other day with insects every fourth day. Others saying feed veg everyday and insects every other day. Lastly feeding both veg and insects everyday. All while keeping a 80/20 split. I am confused on what is best, any help from anyone is appreciated. Btw it is a 2 year old male. Owners say he eats veg meal worms and fruit everyday and crickets every 2nd day. Which I knew sounded off! (Edit: I found your more recent video with your guest and he answered my question. Don't buy the medical temp guns they don't go high enough they only read up to 40° at the most some don't go that high because they're only looking for a fever temperature in humans you're better off buying the tool version that will measure engine heat ECT... So it will read above 40° just trying to save anyone wasting money making the same mistake as I did with my first temp gun 😁
