You are DOING it, my beautiful friend! You are helping in building the foundations. By promoting that book, and doing a wonderful job at speaking in a way neurotypicals will understand and cannot deny. You are calm and demonstrate a fair and balanced way of thinking. Difficult to do in our turbulent world situation. Well done, and well said! Bravo! Slammin' hair! I cut my daughter's hair for a long while like that. She loved it! We are Aspies. I just found out last month in July. Rough. Very difficult in every way. All of the puzzle pieces are falling into place. Yeah. The corporate mentality is not logical. It's going to get worse before it gets better, but you guys are helping us to "turn the corner" to better. Thank you. 🙏🏻🧘‍♀️💙🕊✌🏻☮️

I love that the narrative is starting to change around us, though I agree that we probably won't see it in our lifetime. But the fact that someone like the author of that paper actually seems to SEE us gives me hope for the future 😊

awesome video. It is interesting that NTs act like we are the inflexible ones when they insist on the existence of the "normal person", surely that creates problems for seeing that others can have different views and so on based on their life expereinces, some things i share with you such as how my emapthy does things other parts of my Autistic expereice are totally different

I think that people often confuse “empathy”, with “sympathy”. Sympathy is simple to understand, while empathy is more complex. I think empathy is the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes.

Good video. Recently, I had a fight with a Neurotypical about something horrible he did to me. He turned around and said, 'Do you understand :common English:?' This person has heard me say all sorts of scientific findings about Autistic people and the differences between how Neurotypical people and Autistic people communicate. So, I was completely blown away that he would say something like that. If there is one thing that most describes what happens when Neurotypical people communicate with Autistic people, it's that we Autistic people are misunderstood and misinterpreted. In the face of that reality, there can be NO SUCH CONCEPT AS "common English." Because, if Autistic people try to speak this so-called "common English" that Neurotypical people are speaking, AND we are always misunderstood and misinterpreted, than at the very least, it is not a "common" language because if we are misunderstood and misinterpreted, there is nothing "common" about it. There is no "commonality" that Autistic people and Neurotypical people are SHARING about that language such that we have the same meanings, experiences, and perspectives. THAT's why we Autistic people are misunderstood and misinterpreted. It was enough absurdity of what he said to want to just go bang your head on a wall. Neurotypicals don't get it. They just don't get it.

There was a lot to think about with this, and that I could identify with for sure. Makes me feel like I am most certainly Autistic

i dont think i can even be friends with non (realized) autistic and disabled people atp. i cannot mask. i need someone who gets it- and more importantly someone who is ok hearing about my daily life. its just normal stuff for me, but abled people find it horrifying and shocking... i will never be able to answer the question "how are you doing?" with "ok/fine/good". i need to be honest, and i never am fine. i need friends who are ok with that. it's so painful just freaking existing like this
as someone who is never "good" lol i have plenty of experience in differentiating what is like "trauma-dumping" vs what is ok to tell people (who get it). (even ppl who get it should not have someone else's trauma and triggering stuff dumped upon them. there is a difference between that and things like "yeah i'm in a huge pain flare up." , "i'm sleep deprived and had a rly bad nightmare." , "im trying to sort out stuff with my insurance/the ssa/health & human services which is really stressful." , and "i'm rly dissociated rn.") idk just felt like i should clarify further that i do have a sense of these boundaries. most people cant handle that stuff and hearing honest answers, so what i'm trying to say is that i can only be friends will people who do understand and can handle it.

The Double Empathy Problem becomes The Triple Empathy Problem in a medical context, with serious consequences to Autistic health and life. There is an excellent study on it, if you Googe "sage journals triple empathy problem". The study is titled "Barriers to healthcare and a ‘triple empathy problem’ may lead to adverse outcomes for autistic adults: A qualitative study"

Amazing explanation. I never thought about the fact that to empathize with someone, you need to know that same experience, so my trouble empathizing with neurotypical people isn't an empathy-deficit, but simply that I don't care about the same things that the nt-person does, so it's harder to imagine feeling like that. Personally, I have a kind of hyper empathy regarding what the other person is feeling in their body, and noticing all the little gestures they make, but that doesn't mean that I know why they feel like that, or what it means. Also very relatable with the part about feeling a lot, but with a delay on reacting to it.

I want creators of certification for Translators to include: Autistic to Non-autistic translator.
I have a friend who does this translation that I need, but a lack of certification means she hits barriers (EG: HIPAA) to letting her speak for me. I experience drastic differences in how we communicate vs non-autistics.

I think that most neurotypical people (especially Americans) want everyone to conform to their ways of thinking and don't believe anyone should think differently than them.

I suspect that problems with Theory of Mind is more of a problem with autistic children. We might develop it later than other children or it may continue be a problem if there is also an intellectual disability.
