DOUG POLK AKA THE SUPREME LEADER AKA DOUGLAS K POLK AKA DEBATABLY THE BEST HUNL PLAYER IN THE WORLD AKA THE MAN THE MYTH THE LEGEND is BACK on the Poker Life podcast today.
We are talking all about the epic HU challenge vs Daniel Negreanu and how Doug came out victorious for $1,200,000. Doug has spent the last 3 months battling Daniel at a $200/$400 high stakes HU battle. Doug was the big favorite coming into the match and the pressure was on him to deliver a victory vs Daniel. The match was pretty anti-climactic in terms of who would win as Doug was the odds on favorite to win and wasn't in much danger of losing. At one point later in the match, Daniel had a massive near $400,000 victory over the course of a few hours that forced Doug to rethink his strategy. Doug came out using a limping strategy which caused Daniel to start tanking which caused a major controversy as Phil Galfond needed to step in to mediate the dispute.
In the end, Doug came out with the victory in the match and in the side bets worth millions of dollars.

Joey, your appearances together with Doug on either channel have always been consistently entertaining. You’ve done some great stuff with others but the best stuff with Doug. Hold Doug to his promise to co-commentate a couple of streams. See if Jamie is interested in being part of it. That would be a gas. I still remember when you told Doug that he was a great tournament player while walking out of the One Drop. You meant it and it meant a lot to Doug. It’s just great to see you doing stuff together and it doesn’t even involve a cheater or a bot 👍🏻
I don’t think Doug realizes that, in life, when you’re a grinder, it’s tough to turn that shit off. You might think you don’t want it, but you probably do.

It died because of tanking and the way it is televised. In earlier days one minute to make a decision waa a long time. Now one minute for each decision feels fast.

He did say he will not be looking to do anymore matched but if someone who thinks is easy challenges him and the money is right I'm sure he would consider it

Just don't talk about it and when time to come back even if only for something like this then do it but no reason announce you're done for good when we all know that's not going be the case

In September 2018, he said he will quit playing poker but continued to add videos to his RUclips channel. On 16 March 2020, Polk uploaded a video saying he doesn't like the game anymore and is formally quitting the poker industry after retiring from play in late 2018. UH HUH

Negreanu's mistake was playing online. All Online players do is hammer. Notice that when he played Neg head up live Polk lost 100,000 in just a few hours.

Polk is the unhappiest man who's won probably over 2 million in 3 months. No one knows how much side bets, but I assume it's a decent amount. Granted he had to work that money.

@@perffborten3550 the point is the guy has made a living off of the fact he has confidence in his abilities and had performed. No one wins them all in fact the edge overall is extremely small even for winning player. I never said he wasn't an underdog in the scenario but who knows what kind of side bets he had at plus money and if he felt those prices offered value. It's very easy to say after the fact that it was a bad bet now that you have the results in front of you. If price was right was good bet no matter result. At the end of the day he's proven he has a long term edge in games he chooses to play in. You or I have no idea what action he has going. If he felt was +ev spot then I trust fact he knows better us. I know all about the fact most poker players are broke and don't have nearly the money most think. Google puts him at 50 million net worth. No idea where he's at but considering money he's also made from poker off the felt I highly doubt he put himself in any kind of financial jeopardy. like Doug said in the long run this will end up being a profitable investment in himself for Daniel.

1:45:55 how would PokerBros grow its market? Its market is offering illegal super high rake games. I mean it is ridiculous to play those apps. Bots, collusion, 3bb rake per hand on stakes lower than 5/10 PLO and you have to trust your agents with big sums of money, plus the agents you have to trust take a cut of your winnings. It's like Sauce said, it used to be that pokerplayers could put in the work and earn 90% of what the weaker competition lost. Now the game operators and agents take 90% and 10% go to the winning players. Sad.
