Fun fact: This was created to be the movie's version of the Total Perspective Vortex. The idea that a total narcissist like Zaphod could walk away unharmed after seeing their position in the infinite universe, but can't handle the everyday practice of considering their own infinitesimal corner of the universe from another person's perspective, is profound stuff.

This film is pretty loose in its adaptation of the original story, but it has its own sort of humor that works well with the story it tells and the cast it hosts. I'm pretty fond of it.

You know what I love? Scene that are genuinely, absolutely unique. Scenes that are singular, that could only EVER happen between the exact characters involved, with the exact context and exact mechanisms.
This is one of those. There’s just something about all the absurdity of the situation finally being stripped away for a moment, even as the surreal and comedic trappings are still integral to the scene, as Trillian/Trisha really lets the genuine emotional rollercoaster she’s experienced wash over her, in her own words, but someone else’s voice.
It’s goofy and odd and profoundly sad and this movie deserves more attention.

  • @czperiod2576

The look of Ford at 2:02 I think he finally gets it so to speak and understands just what kind of situation Trillian is in. No jokes, no stupid comments, just understanding.

pretty sure he is referring to the execution of what they made. the movie material in this scene is independent from the book, but rather good. the actors are at minimum decent. but the movie, it stumbles in it's execution.

And the most sexist comment award goes to... Way to oversimplify the complexities of a human being to a simple single stereotype! You'll find that the world is a little more complex than that and even though the line is played for laughs, it does have a basis in reality ( rsos.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/3/2/150459 ).
