    This 1003 I bet was in Service in Big Lake MN but not sure if a replacement 2001-130 took its place also is it hard to convert it from 3 Phase Power to 1 Phase Power does that make it quieter in terms of sound and performance output

    • @quantumbox.
      @quantumbox.  5 лет назад

      Converting the type of input power doesn't make it quieter it just requires more amperage and a redesigned RCM1

      You would have to replace the motor with a single phase.

      @@porcupinepunch6893 You could use a phase converter but at that point it would just be cheaper and easier to go ahead and switch the blower motor itself to a single phase unit. To answer the original questions; Yes it is somewhat difficult to go from 3ph to 1ph power, and no as long as the blower motor is still able to turn the blower at the proper RPM the performance will not be affected. It would, however, draw more current than a 3ph blower.

      @@flyoversirens3704 how so? I can probably put together a bunch of capacitors and run the motor on split phase for probably cheaper than I could buy a new single phase motor.

    Isn’t a thunderbolt 1000 chopper essentially a completely redesigned model 2? I mean when it’s put into the 1000 shel with the blower blasting air into it, it’s 10x louder than a model two, but that’s all they had laying around to make a siren that was meeting the demand of civil defense right?

    • @quantumbox.
      @quantumbox.  6 лет назад +2

      Keaton0801 The chopper assembly is essentially a model 2. The blower on the Thunderbolt provides the extra air needed to boost the sound output. And yes they used the same parts to make it easier to replace broken parts

    Why don't you ever use hi-lo on this siren or the AF timer?

  • @SouthCarolinaSirens
    @SouthCarolinaSirens 2 года назад

    What motor is that on your 4m? I'm looking to get one since I'm getting my own 1003 next week and the blower motor is 3ph. If you can, can you tell me the model and everything so I can try and look for one?

    • @quantumbox.
      @quantumbox.  2 года назад

      I used a pretty standard refurbished 7.5hp farm motor. I choose one that fitted the original specs (1750rpm, same sized frame, etc). Check with an electrician for more concrete information and make sure you size the motor starter correctly (and potentially rewire/rebuild the RCM1) and any wire you use. Luckily, (and to my knowledge) you don't have to use the Furnas motor starters, so long as it's the same NEMA size. (Disclaimer: I'm not liable for anything that goes wrong and you should always use your best judgement and consult licensed professionals). Good luck with it!

    • @SouthCarolinaSirens
      @SouthCarolinaSirens 2 года назад

      Thanks! And I wouldnt have to rebuild the RCM1 since you just need the 3rd phase for 3 phase motors, you just wire your single phase to L1 and L2. Id most likely only have to replace the blower contactor.

      My advice is to check The Siren Board wiki, sites like eBay or Govdeals and just randomly searching for retired sirens in your area. It's getting harder everyday to find these since it's usually cheaper to let them sit as they were installed and rust or fall apart. Many places don't have the money, have political issues or don't care enough to sell it for parts, opting to scrap or leave them. Good luck!
