I love how you point out that 3d printers are pretty cheap in the air raid siren video. (now everyone can be a nice neighbor for around 280 bucks shipping included + a motor)
Hi I totally understand your feelings in my country it happens a lot it’s terrible waking up at 3 am with this scary and strong sirens when rockets are thrown at us stay strong
The model of the siren in France you recorded is a DS PAKITA siren and it's sound was used for the horror film "Silent Hill". And the DS PAKITA siren is pretty much a sentry siren running 50 hz while a sentry siren runs on 60 hz
What a project! I need this for my neighbours when they wake me up again at 3am. 3db is twice the power yet doesn't sound twice as loud. 10db feels twice as loud.
I can confirm that these in France do sound the same all around. They are mainly used now as chemical danger sirens (quick blows) or nuclear danger sirens (long blow with a small pause sometimes)
If you want to make this siren even louder, add a second rotor with slightly smaller or larger holes, just as long as they are a different size, the tones of each will harmonize and create an even louder siren. Its how most car horns work.

1.1 kilowatts, if I did math correctly, is actually a little under 10 times below the normal horsepower for American air raid sirens, not too sure about other countries. The normal horsepower is around 10 hp, so you would need a 7.4 kilowatt motor.
"spinning a heavy chunk of metal at over 3000 rotations per second is obviously dangerous" holy shit yeah, thats 180,000 RPM you need a super alloy to even attempt that
@@gialuquin88XD It's said multiple times in the video that the motor works at 3000 rotations per seconds. But that's impossible, only things going remotely close to that speed are injection turbines in rocket motors. SO it's not 3000 rotations per seconds, but 3000 rotations per minutes (similar to a small diesel car going 100 km/h in third gear).
There was one of these type sirens up on top of a pole close to the house I lived in as a child in Philadelphia, PA. It would go off at noon and would scare the pants off me when I was close by. All of these were eventually disabled. I addition to the air raid siren at noon, there was a huge growling steam whistle that blew at the beginning and end of each shift at the shipyard near my home.
At 6:00 that clicking isn't the centrifugal switch. The switch will only disconnect the windings when the motor reaches a certain RPM and reconnect during wind-down. I don"t know what that sound is but its not the centrifugal switch. So it should only be heard once during wind up and once during wind down.

Nice job! One other thing you might want to do is make sure that the rotor is as well balanced as possible, because that'll reduce the wobble and probably make the wind-down a bit longer. By the way, the siren in the recording at the beginning of the video was a KM Europ siren.
