Très bien !
I've always wondered what they did different back in the old old days when they first made any kinda weapons and why the steel was so much better back then from what people do now days its like the steel made these days is nowhere near what it was back then
Steel is better now due to modern methods of steel manufacturing with less impurities but only if that's the goal. Most companies mass produce tools from cheap steel for profit
Looks amazing! I'd love to see more showing how you grind the concave part of the bevel though.
Thanks. I'll try and show in the next video
S grind is one of the most technical to get right and Lews looks spot on to me
looking forward to your next drop. I know there's a few of us in Ireland who'd LOVE to get ahold of a few of your knives!
A few on the way in the coming weeks!🙏
@@lewgriffinknives216 oh excellent. I’ll be watching. ;). Xmas present for the wife. ;)
heh, your name is Lion too?
WOW
Super👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Do you really have to torture us on here with that knife build???? Now how are all of us going to get one now??? Awesome build and looks sharp as hell I am talking about the aesthetics first!
😂 thanks! I do have knives available through my website with updates via the newsletter every couple of weeks
👏👏👏
That 4xx with nickel? Love that handle shape. Thats a good one.
It sure is!
The effect you got from the nickle silver is stunning; I assume you planned it that way, or was it one of those happy accidents?
It was planned as I've made this steel before but always a surprise to see the pattern!
Tuku alate ngentekke duit males mikir juga aku haha
I've never wanted any knife more than I want that knife. Visually, hands down the most stunning kitchen knife I think I've ever seen. Amazing work. We're can I get one? What are the different layers?
Thanks much appreciated! I sell them through my webstore in the description. The layers are a 52100 carbon steel core in the middle with nickel silver and stainless steel on the sides
@@lewgriffinknives216 your awesome!!!
is that pine pitch youre using to secure the handle materials?
It's marine epoxy with some black dye
Beautiful knife! What shapening stones do you use?
Thanks! Mainly king stones, they need to be flattened regularly but cut fairly aggressive
Hermoso trabajo!!que núcleo de acero uso?
fantastically beautiful knife, are these also for sale, and where and what is the price
Thanks much appreciated. Yes I list knives on my website lewgriffinknives.com
How in the world did that pattern come from stacked layered steel?
The hollow grind with rippled steel texture
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💯💯💯💯💯💯🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
what is the darker wood portion of the handle?
It's the same wood but I dyed it black while stabilizing
minute 8:15 what solution is that, im new to this blacksmith thing hehehe
Ferric chloride
@@lewgriffinknives216 thanks man appreciate it
Part of smithing skill is to be able to hammer knife out of iron not use angle grinder to cut knife form?
Yes I usually do but I didn't want to risk splitting the layers as there's a higher chance on stainless laminated steel. Been meaning to try soon just fearful of losing the billet!
cool build but I think your way of making a billet is extremely heavy on resources and its a shame to lose such a large amount of really awesome Damascus
It's not Damascus so the process is different, there's a higher chance of splitting the layers if forged on the vertical so I don't risk it
i dont know the layered part is stunning but im not a fan of the unfinished look on the blade also i would never use a knife with out a machinal connection in the handle nothing but glue i just couldent trust it or put it to full use
I can pull the handle with my full bodyweight while the blade is trapped in the vise with no problems. It's marine grade boat building epoxy no expense spared
