ur right he wont do those things but the MAIN thing is he wont be"Fooling Around". Next "Like A Bat Out of Hell" 🦇would be a good 1 also the name of the album. The vid. ofcourse
At the end of the video where she is singing with him, she says he is probably going to screw around. He says, I will never do that. I believe that is the message. I will love you forever, I won't cheat on you. Anyways, that is my interpretation.
I thought she was saying, “They have told me before that they love me, but it is shorter than a summer romance, you will say that too.” And he says, “I wouldn’t do that.”
Meat Loaf didn’t create these masterpieces alone. Songwriter Jim Steinman is responsible for the tunes themselves. Meat provided the voice. I was a teenager when Bat Out Of Hell came out in 1977. It was definitely a revelation And, yes, Beauty and the Beast storyline
In an interview with Dan Rather in 2016 Meatloaf explained what "That" is. He said he thought it was clear as day, but his writing partner Jim Steinman claimed that no one would know what it means. Meatloaf chalked it up to Jim's writing style and the number of times the "I would do anything for love" part is repeated before "But I won't do that", by that point the listener has forgotten about the line that precludes it each time. So the answer is, just read the line before and it spells out what "that" is (I'll never do it better than I do it with you, I'll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life, etc.)
All throughout the song in EVERY verse, he says what he won’t do. It kills me how so many people don’t get that. “But I’ll never forget the way you feel right now, now way.” “I’ll never forgive myself if we don’t go all the way, tonight”. “But I'll never do it better than I do it with you So long, so long”. “But I'll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life, no way”. And of course everything at the end. “After a while you'll forget everything It was a brief interlude and a midsummer night's fling And you'll see that it's time to move on No, I won't do that I won't do that I know the territory, I've been around It'll all turn to dust and we'll all fall down Sooner or later you'll be screwing around I won't do that No, I won't do Anything for love Oh, I would do anything for love I would do anything for love but I won't do that No, I won't do that”
Heya :) Meat Loaf tells us all throughout the song what he won't do: * He'll "never lie to you and that's a fact" * He'll "never forget the way you feel right now, no way" * He'll "never do it better than I do it with you, so long, so long" * He'll "never stop dreaming of you every night of my life, no way" * He won't see that it's time to move on after a midsummer night's fling. * He won't screw around behind her back. Also, I think he's somewhat using his "powers" to pleasure or stimulate the woman as she lays in his bed. Just as he used "magic" to move the chair upon her arrival, there are shots that intersect the harem where the woman is completely alone in the bed. He's using his magic to make her feel good, which then complements her lyrics "will you make me some magic with your own two hands", meaning she wants him to physically pleasure her, not just an illusion of pleasure. I think this is often missed but a poignant inclusion to the overall story with the film clip.
This is the first track from the album, Bat Out Of Hell II, many years after the first, and this song and video are just brilliant. The next song you really need to watch is the Bat Out Of Hell music video.
This song came out right in '93 when alternative rock was in vogue (totally NOT what Meat Loaf is/was,RIP) and this song became a HUGE hit despite that....Many thought that dramatic themed "arena rock" was outdated & passe' but this song proved the naysayers WRONG...
The video was directed by Michael Bay ("Pearl Harbor", "The Island", "Bad Boys", "Armageddon", "Transformers"). He also directed several other music videos. For Meat Loaf: "Objects in the rear view mirror (may appear closer than they are)", "Rock'n'Roll dreams come through" with 18 year old Angelina Jolie
Objects in the Rear View Mirror is one of my favourites. ❤️ We all have objects in our rear view mirror that have affected us through life & this song really makes you realize how close they can be. I think with all of Meatloaf’s songs (Thank you Jim) every person can relate to elements in most of them.
A classic song! I remember reading in a magazine in the 90's an article about him about how he'd stopped eating hamburgers to lose weight, and when he finally got leaner it wasn't as well received as he expected. So he went back to eating hamburgers. R.I.P. Dude, please remember to check out the band DEATH, either the song "Left to Die" or "Pull the Plug". Would be cool to see some old school death metal from Florida in this channel 😩🤘
I saw Meatloaf 4 times in 3 decades, I saw this live, at the end of the song he gave a big, brilliant smile and said "that fucks with you all doesn't it!?".. He was absolutely brilliant, a stage show only matched by Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie.
This video always reminds me of a TV series from 1987 called Beauty and the Beast, about people living in subways and an attorney(woman) that falls in love with one of them....
Ok, so now you are ready for the ultimate story, the song "Objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are". THis one will tear you up..
He tells you what he won’t do in each verse: -no turning back -do it better than I do it with you -stop dreaming of you -forget everything -see that it's time to move on -you'll be screwing around
He spent a lot of time in Australia. Not sure if he owned a house here but would not surprise me. He was here a lot and favoured by Australians. He fit in well and loved it here in return.
I'm pretty sure this song is in "Bram Stoker's Dracula," hence the vampire theme. In the movie, Dracula refused to make his wife a vampire even though he 'crossed oceans of time' to find her.
Great reaction, I'm jealous, I wish I could hear a Meatloaf song for the first time. As for what it all means, people have been debating that since day one, lol. At the end of each verse he mentions something he'd never do, hence the 'I won't do that', the rest is up to your imagination I guess. Every track they made is epic, pick anything, you can't miss. ✌❤
It's kind of strange how much of an icon Meatloaf is and how people, including myself, love him. When you really look at it, he only had 2 albums that sold well. Jim Steinman wrote both. After Bat Out Of Hell they had a falling out. It wasn’t until a little over a decade later they got back together for Bat Out Of Hell II. And even with that, this was the only song that did anything off that one even though it's a great album. Other than diehard Meatloaf fans there's probably not many people could name an album or even a song that wasn’t on one of these 2 albums. Steinman was a writer who fit Meatloaf's style perfectly but there's only a certain amount of shelf life for that extended, stage style of music. What was loved in 1977 wasn't going to be as loved in the late 80s except for the 1st song with the nostalgia factor.
You’re good!!! Hardly anyone catches what “that” is during the first hearing. It’s eight or nine different things and you already caught three of them! 👍
meant to say that the female voice in Id do anything for love, was credited to mrs loud, who in reality is Lorraine Crosby. she was not used in the video, she was lip-synced ,by the actress. Objects in the rear view mirror is another meatloaf song.
he is playing the heart broken, hated, vampire... "i would do anything for love, but i wont do_____ " is the gold..... this is one part of a tail. his own words... and he gave his all for it. you should be able to add solid verses.... its a brutal but honest love song. its the honest to god most true love song an old type can throw at anyone. especially if ya can sing it. this is the honest way to see it. some love goes beyond the bounds of life and death. --- 88' arkansas.
If you want to check out an autobiography of his life, check out this song, "Objects in the rearview mirror appear closer than they are." It's movie quality and describes the loss of his best friend, young, living with his abusive, alcoholic Father and his first love. Magical, lyrical genius and he should have been in the Hall of Fame.
Shortly after The Bat Out of Hell album came out, Meat Loaf developed some anxiety and other issues affecting his ability to sing. Meat Loaf lost his voice and was unable to record the follow-up album, Renegade Angel. Steinman says "I spent seven months trying to make a follow-up [to Bat] with him, and it was an infernal nightmare. He had lost his voice, he had lost his house, and he was pretty much losing his mind." Not being able to "bear for people not to hear those songs," Steinman recorded the album, retitled Bad for Good, as a solo project. The song “Left in the Dark" is an awesome song. Jim didn’t have the vocal chops of Meat Loaf but it was a good album. Later Meat Loaf regained his ability to sing and many songs from Bad For Good were rerecorded by Meatloaf. “Left In the Dark” as sung by Jim Steinman is still my favorite version of the song. It’s a very emotional song. I believe that Barbara Streisand also covered the song. Another “song” on Bad For Good is “Love and Death and an American Guitar”! 😂 It is a must hear fun song that is nothing like anything that you have ever heard before. 😂 Links below. “Left In the Dark” Jim Steinman ruclips.net/video/B6KBkiLr0mg/видео.htmlsi=CKrhSnpIvYGxlGfY “Love and Death and an American Guitar” Jim Steinman ruclips.net/video/ur2X5_TLcnw/видео.htmlsi=AgAR9Qg_haOhig_M
Meatloaf has played in lots of musicals and movies but his best scene is probably in the video of Objects In The Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are where he plays a man telling/singing of how his father abused him as a child. Meatloaf's own father abused him when he was growing up so he had emotions to tap in to. Very good video and very good song also.
Great reaction! Bat Out Of Hell is great, along with You Took The Words Right out Of My Mouth. For Crying Out Loud is fantastic as well. Meat Loaf truly doesn't have a bad song!
No one could write overly dramatic rock songs like Jim Steinman and not many could sing them like Meat Loaf. Check out more Meat Loaf for sure, but also look up Steinman and the other people who have sang his stuff
The last line of each verse before the chorus reveals what he won't do. I'm so happy that you liked this! Meatloaf always gives a top notch performance to Jim Steinman's songs but he isn't alone. Check out Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" and Air Supply's "Making Love out of Nothing at All". Both are Steinman songs and both bear his unmistakable trademarks.
For the video the influences are Disney's Beauty and the Beast and Bram Stoker's Dracula. For other Jim Steinman songs look up Holding out for a Hero and It's All Coming Back to Me Now (which has both a Meatloaf and Celine Dion version). Also for studio versions it is usually Jim playing the piano on the songs he wrote.
Jim Steinman was one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time! He wrote very dramatic music. He also wrote a couple of songs for Bonnie Tyler and a great song for Air Supply. You should check out Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler and Making Love Out of Nothing at All by Air Supply.
Anything from the Bat out of hell album. He made 3 or 4 live performances that included "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". He was a great guy and a force of nature.
I suggest "Bat Out Of Hell" because of Todd Rundgrens banger guitar work and the title track from his second album "Dead Ringer For Love“ with special guest ... (i do not spoil!).
Really enjoyed yout reaction! So much to love from ML and Steinman. Great suggestions in comments. Bat Out of Hell is my personal fav. Those final notes!! Two Out of Three is also classic. Someone mentioned Life is a Lemon…deliciously dystopian! Check out video from 1993 Orlando. You Took the Words/Hot Summer Night also terrific. And For Crying Out Loud is simply a vocal tour de force.
Also, Meat Loaf sang 5 songs on Ted Nugent’s album Free For All, which is my favorite. “A full year before Bat Out of Hell brought him international success, vocalist Meat Loaf was brought in by producer Werman to sing on the album. Meat Loaf was paid the sum of $1,000 for his contributions to the album, which included crafting his vocal arrangements and two days of recording sessions.” “Hammerdown” Ted Nugent w/Meatloaf on vocals. ruclips.net/video/Vkzce8qxXMU/видео.htmlsi=lZTRHYHqpR_B2Q9p
I love Meat Loaf! He has been (and remains) my idol for many years. The news of his death shocked me to the core. He delighted me with everything - artistry, vocals. Each of his videos is a small movie. You are absolutely right, this video is very similar to "Beauty and the Beast". Amazing video... Thank you for such a wonderful review. And check out the cover version of this song from Tommy, if you haven't seen it yet. Tommy did a great cover version. Thanks again for this review.
There was something he wouldn't do in each verse, including the one you spotted, then culminating in 'sooner or later you'll be "messing" around' - i won't do that :) The album version of "Heaven Can Wait" is an extremely emotional performance by him
Jim tried to have a movie made for a long time, kind of like a futuristic Peter Pan story. It never got financed but eventually there was a musical made with similar story called Bat out of hell.
This song went to number one in 28 countries and sold 15 million copies. Lorraine Crosby duetet with Meatloaf on that track but she she did not feature in the accompanying video.
If you want to see a movie/musical with Jim Steinman's genius you must watch "Streets of Fire" (1984) of better yet, react to the scene of the movie or music video for the song "Tonight is what it means to be young." More Jim Steinman genius would be Bonnie Tyler and Tina Turner to name a few.
While his best songs are generally considered to be his collaborations with Jim Steinman, Meat Loaf also did some great songs with other writers: Rock and Roll Mercenaries, Midnight at the Lost and Found, Modern Girl, Nowhere Fast, to name just a few. They tend to be a bit more conventionally structured but are still great songs.
I was fortunate to see Meatloaf and ELO at the CNE in Toronto in July 1978. Amazing. The girl in this video is lip syncing and the real vocalist on the album is Ellen Foley(old tv show people will know her from Nightcourt). On tour it was Carla Devito. Rip Meatloaf
I believe this song is based on the 'Phantom of the Opera', a novel written in 1910 by Gaston Leroux which is loosely based on Victor Hugo's masterpiece, 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' , which was written in 1831. The 'THEME' of the original novel (The Hunchback) has been rewritten & renamed numerous time throughout history - from Gaston Leroux (Phantom of the Opera) to Andrew Lloyd Webber who turned it into the longest running show on Broadway where it ran from 1988 2023 to Walt Disney's animated adaptations - Beauty & the Beast & the Hunchback of Notre Dame etc. Hugo's book's history & lineage is as storied as the original novel itself !!
Good job! You're much closer than most reactors to understanding the song. Your key superpower was that you listened to it. For future clarity, Jim Steinman said that he only wrote about three things: vampires, motorcycles, and erections. Any part of any Steinman song you don't understand, just ask yourself... is this talking about a vampire, a motorcycle, or an erection? You'll have it all figured out. Full list of Meat Loaf's do's and do nots: Things he WILL do: Run right into hell and back Never lie to you Be there till the final act Take the vow Seal the pact Anything you've been dreaming of Anything for love Never turn back Raise you up Help you down Get you right out of this godforsaken town Make it all a little less cold Hold you sacred Hold you tight Colourize your life Make it all a little less old Make you some magic with his own two hands Build an emerald city out of these grains of sand Give you something you can take home Cater to every fantasy you've got Hose you down with holy water if you get too hot Take you places you've never known Things he WON'T do: Forget the way you feel right now Forgive myself if we don't go all the way, tonight Do it better than I do it with you Stop dreaming of you every night of my life Forget everything Think of it as a brief interlude and midsummer night's fling See that it's time to move on Be screwing around
Haha 😂 Thanks for all the insight! I’m gonna go back and listen again with this list in front of me! Such a great tune and an amazing video! Appreciate you hanging out!
........ Dead ringer for love. Official music video. You may recognise the female singer.. Tragic that Meat Loaf passed away from covid..... Big loss to the world of music. E❤
Towards the end of MeatLoaf's life he was on several ghost hunts with Ghost Hunters. The last show he mostly sat in a chair and tried to contact the spirits. Hope they can contact Meatloaf.
In my opinion: He would do anything for love, but he won't just go with every women, cheating on her just for love. He would be faithful even if their love is not the same at day 1

Meat Loaf "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" 👍
You have to check out this one for sure.
Beauty and the Beast , Phantom of the Opera combined
And bram stoker's dracula🤭
This was Meatloaf (Harvey Aday) big comeback hit and his only Number One song.
Heya :) Meat Loaf tells us all throughout the song what he won't do:
* He'll "never lie to you and that's a fact"
* He'll "never forget the way you feel right now, no way"
* He'll "never do it better than I do it with you, so long, so long"
* He'll "never stop dreaming of you every night of my life, no way"
* He won't see that it's time to move on after a midsummer night's fling.
* He won't screw around behind her back.

Check out Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" and Air Supply's "Making Love out of Nothing at All". Both are Steinman songs and both bear his unmistakable trademarks.
@@paulweiss3818 Thanks for the recommendations! This was phenomenal! 😃
Meatloaf always was a dynamic& theatrical performer. Yes that is a genre.
Meatloaf is Salisbury Steak's poorer cousin - Meat Loaf was an iconic singer/actor.
Jeffrey Combs as the lead investigator
Jim Steinman was one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time! He wrote very dramatic music. He also wrote a couple of songs for Bonnie Tyler and a great song for Air Supply. You should check out Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler and Making Love Out of Nothing at All by Air Supply.
And It's all coming back to me now performed by Celine Dion.
Anything from the Bat out of hell album. He made 3 or 4 live performances that included "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". He was a great guy and a force of nature.
One of the first things is "I'll never lie to you and that's a fact."
I didn't read through all of the comments, but Meatloaf once did a song with Celine Dion, "It's All Coming Back to Me Now."
The wonderful female voice of Lorraine Crosby from the UK (not in the video )
I suggest "Bat Out Of Hell" because of Todd Rundgrens banger guitar work and the title track from his second album "Dead Ringer For Love“ with special guest ... (i do not spoil!).
Jim Steinman is to Meatloaf as Bernie Taupin is to Elton John
Really enjoyed yout reaction! So much to love from ML and Steinman. Great suggestions in comments. Bat Out of Hell is my personal fav. Those final notes!! Two Out of Three is also classic. Someone mentioned Life is a Lemon…deliciously dystopian! Check out video from 1993 Orlando. You Took the Words/Hot Summer Night also terrific. And For Crying Out Loud is simply a vocal tour de force.
This is an amazing song and one of my faves. Yes, A MASTERPIECE!
Great choice man!! Meatloaf was fantastic.
Meatloaf is Salisbury Steak's poorer cousin - Meat Loaf was an iconic singer/actor.
You should check out his video with Cher....Real Dead Ringer For Love.
He won't stop loving her no matter what basically.
I thought It was he wouldn't screw around??
@@Arwen-vj1gu all of the above. He says what he won't do before every chorus.
Also, Meat Loaf sang 5 songs on Ted Nugent’s album Free For All, which is my favorite. “A full year before Bat Out of Hell brought him international success, vocalist Meat Loaf was brought in by producer Werman to sing on the album. Meat Loaf was paid the sum of $1,000 for his contributions to the album, which included crafting his vocal arrangements and two days of recording sessions.”
“Hammerdown” Ted Nugent w/Meatloaf on vocals.

That’s so cool! I need to dig into that album! 🤘🏻
There was something he wouldn't do in each verse, including the one you spotted, then culminating in 'sooner or later you'll be "messing" around' - i won't do that :) The album version of "Heaven Can Wait" is an extremely emotional performance by him
@@martinarscott3524 Thanks for the insight! Such genius writing and this video was like watching a movie! 😁
Dana Patrick was the lady in film clip but Lorraine Crosby was the singer ,aka Mrs loud
Huh! 🙂
Hyvä Riitta! 😉
Just before each chorus he says what he wont do
Love meatloaf Great reaction
I love first time Meatloaf reactions 😂 ...wait for it ,can't wait 😂 Two out of three must be next my friend. Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏
Meatloaf "Objects in the rearview mirror bay be closer than they appear"
Full list of Meat Loaf's do's and do nots:
Things he WILL do:
Run right into hell and back
Never lie to you
Be there till the final act
Take the vow
Seal the pact
Anything you've been dreaming of
Anything for love
Never turn back
Raise you up
Help you down
Get you right out of this godforsaken town
Make it all a little less cold
Hold you sacred
Hold you tight
Colourize your life
Make it all a little less old
Make you some magic with his own two hands
Build an emerald city out of these grains of sand
Give you something you can take home
Cater to every fantasy you've got
Hose you down with holy water if you get too hot
Take you places you've never known
Things he WON'T do:
Forget the way you feel right now
Forgive myself if we don't go all the way, tonight
Do it better than I do it with you
Stop dreaming of you every night of my life
Forget everything
Think of it as a brief interlude and midsummer night's fling
See that it's time to move on
Be screwing around
Haha 😂 Thanks for all the insight! I’m gonna go back and listen again with this list in front of me! Such a great tune and an amazing video! Appreciate you hanging out!
You nailed it ! Well done on the interpretation I could see your brain ticking and you got there !! Can’t wait for Bat out of Hell! ❤
Definitely have to check that out! Thanks so much for watching! 😃
Meat Loaf. Powerhousr singer. Worth trying Dead Ringer for Love. Bat out of Hell. (which you may recognise, from a well know and now cult film).
That’s great!!! 😁
2 out of 3
Another great reaction. Do TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD next if you would.
His music was great
Yes! I requested this one, knew you’d love it!! His “Two out of three ain’t bad” live is awesome as well
Such a banger!! 🔥🔥
Nice-Bat Out of Hell is a must!
It's a take on beauty and the beast
In my opinion:
He would do anything for love, but he won't just go with every women, cheating on her just for love. He would be faithful even if their love is not the same at day 1
Oh! A true favorite! And the video...O M G!!! Rip Meat Loaf ❤
You nailed it, most reactors do not get it until it is explained to them.
One of his best (IMHO) and most often overlooked tunes is "Objects in the Rear View Mirror (May Appear Closer Than They Are). Geat story/video!
I'm gonna request my favorite Meatloaf tune, Two out of Three Ain't Bad. Please
Remember Tommy J? Should check out his cover of this song 🎸
Cool! Nice! I Saw Meatloaf Here In Finland 1989!
Life Is A Lemon ( AndI Want My Money Back) Is Aldo Great Song! 🙂
