This was beyond AMAZING! Had me rolling! 🤣 What's next from Meat Loaf?!?
the orig Rocky Horror Picture Show he had a part in that as Eddie. Aside from that Bat out of Hell, For Cryin out load
anything from the Bat Out of Hell album
The album this was on was released in 1977.
Meatloaf actually was on Broadway. And so was the songwriter Jim Steinman. They got together and decided to form a theatrical rock star. And Meatloaf was born.
Meat Loaf said that he was not a singer, he was an actor and some of the characters he portrayed were singers. This is rock opera.
The most amazing thing about Meatloaf was his phenomenal diction. No matter how he is singing, no matter how fast the syllables are flying out, you can hear every single word as clearly as if he was speaking it directly to you.
Great point! That is crazy how he can do that! Didn’t even think of that! 😄
@@setonhillstudios if you've got two and a half extra minutes, look for a song called "Hot Patootie Bless My Soul". Even Richard O'Brien the songwriter said that he can't sing it because there are just too many syllables. But Meatloaf gets them all out with absolute clarity. Plus, it's actually a very fun song.
His song "Two Outta Three Ain't Bad" is great and basically anything from his "Bat Out Of Hell" Album is worth listening to. Definitely a showman. I'm laughing watching your reaction! It's great!
IMO, there's not a bad song on that entire album.
I bought that LP when it was brand new, and played it in its entirety too many times to count.
Glad you enjoyed it! This tune definitely threw me for a loop but was a fun one! Thanks for watching! 😄
After this song "Two Outta Three Ain't Bad" is second.
Hit song #1 on his Bat Out Of Hell album and just let it play. I do it often. Volume @ 10.
"I'd do anything for love, but I won't do that."
It is another Meatloaf duet classic.
That’s a hilarious title! 🤣
@@setonhillstudios I'm sure you'd love this song to.
Jim Steinman was the genius behind the writing and composing. They met in college.
Steinman was also playing the piano. He wrote all of the songs on Bat Out of Hell and Bat 2. Steinman and Meatloaf made an amazing combination of artists.
They did not meet in college. They met when Meat Loaf auditioned for Steinman's musical called More Than You Deserve in 1973. They were about 26. Also, Steinman went to college in Massachusetts and Meat Loaf went to college in Texas.
@@Gira21Gramos sorry I meant after college. He was ridiculed at college when trying theatre arts this why he auditioned for Jim's play. They were individually extremely talented but together they were genius !
@@amicouvillionwilson1824 together they were incomparable!
Steinman was a genius has a special sound, writing for Cher, Bonnie Tyler and air supply to name a few
Every song on his first album " Bat out of Hell ". He is an accomplished Stage Performer. He genuinely was a man with a huge heart and is missed.
I heard the whole album is great! Definitely have to check it out! Thanks so much!
(fun fact) the baseball radio announcer was a REAL baseball radio announcer !! ... his name was Phil Rizzuto ... he was the baseball radio announcer for the New York Yankees in the 70s
It's my understanding that they "tricked" Rizzuto into doing the voiceover in that they didn't tell him what it was about up front.
Meat Loaf was a trained actor. He played in musicals in Broadway theaters, e. g. "More than you deserve", "Hair", "The Rocky Horror Show" where he even played a double role (Eddie and Dr. Everett Scott). In the film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" he only played Eddie. Other examples of films: "Fight Club", "Focus", "The 51th state", "A Hole in One", "Outer limits", "Masters of Horror", "Crazy in Alabama" and many more. His last role was in the Netflix series "Ghost Wars" (2018).
Meat Loaf emphasized in several interviews that he considers himself firstly as an actor, secondly as a singer. He said that he first tried to find the character of a new song (like an actor does with film roles), only then he would get to the musical part.
I just saw him in a rerun episode of Monk.
He was also on House MD
He was also in Spice World
Don't forget the classic, "Roadie"!
Meat Loaf "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" 👍 He was in Rocky Horror Picture Show & Fight Club along with a few other movies.
"When Eddy said he didn't like his teddy, you knew he was a real bad kid".
"I Would Do Anything For Love" music video is a Meat Loaf work of art, shorter than the album version but a superb piece of story telling and awesome rock opera performance
Meatloaf had some great song. Bat outa hell is a great album. Every song on it is a masterpiece.
Jim Steinman intended the songs on Bat Out Of Hell to be part of a stage musical. There are a couple of themes that are common to all the songs.
Rest in peace Meat. Great performer......
Jim Steinman was the genius writer-producer behind this and many other hits.
Such a great tune and so much fun! Thanks for watching! 😄
He says it in the opening line - "Well I remember every little thing, as if it happened only yesterday". - "We're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife" - "Come on ... hold on tight ... I can see paradise by the dashboard light" He's trapped by his promise & vows, so he's sitting in his car, remembering back "It was long ago & it was far away, & it was so much better than it is today" - he's thinking about suicide (Paradise By The Dashboard Light) He was a professionally trained opera singer, & back in the day, we called this genre Rock Opera.
The Genius here was Jim Steinman who wrote and produced this and a load of Meatloaf stuff.
This song is the pure essence of Rock n Roll.
💯
They used to play this video before The Rocky Horror Picture Show back in the day (80s and 90s) at my local theater
The title track "Bat Out Of Hell" is a must, especially the great guitar work from Todd Rundgren!
My fav ML/Steinman. And that’s saying something because there’s just so much to love!
This song is one of the most phenomenal songs ever written and the performance is perfect!
So EPIC and so much fun! 😄
Meat Loaf had The first mic drop and hankie toss ever recorded 😂
That’s hilarious! 😂
Check out his, I Would Do Anything For Love (but I won't do that). Meatloaf was great, a true icon of his day. 😊❤
The video for this song is my favorite meatloaf video.
"Bat Out of Hell" is another great reaction.
Love, love, love Meatloaf. The whole Bat Out Of Hell album is fire. Not a bad song on it. Great reaction!! 😊
Appreciate the suggestion! I gotta check out more from him for sure! So much fun! Thanks for watching! 😄
When Meatloaf was a teenager, he had a 3 1/2 octave range. When he was 25, he was offered money to train at the Metropolitan Opera.
Love to see the faces of those first timers when they realize what the song is about. LOL Marvin Lee Aday, aka; Meat Loaf, had a theatrical background which he really played up to in his performances. Check him out in the movie "Rocky Horror Picture Show". The lady singer in the video is Carla Devito, but the singing voice is actually Ellen Foley. Ellen was busy on Broadway at the time of the video shoot, plus she wasn't really thrilled to get so intimate with Meat like Carla did. But, on tour it was Carla singing. The baseball analogy was done by sports caster Phil Rizzuto, who at first denied knowing what it was going to be used for. But later admitted he did know, but at the time he had a reputation to uphold. The legendary Jim Steinman wrote this along with all the songs on the album Bat Out of Hell, which you really need to do a deep dive on.
Jim the keyboard player is the author of all Meats musical work.
Gotcha! Appreciate the info! Definitely some genius writing on this one! 😄
He mesmerizes me every time ! RIP 😭
To me, this song is much deeper than most people believe. It is not a song just about two teens "parking", but it is a stark warning about the dangers of confusing teenage lust for true love.
They started their song with the sentence ‘ I remember every little thing as if it happened only yesterdag’ -> that’s why they sing at the end: ‘ it was long ago and it was far away and it was so much better than it is today’.
Makes sense! 😉
That’s what the paradise by the dashboard light is! Going all the way in the car!
@@tammymertens3020 😳💡
The Woman in the Video is Carla Devito, (wife of Actor Robby Benson)...She Did NOT sing on the Album. The woman who sings this song on the album is Ellen Foley, Who was on the 80s sitcom Night Court...... "Paradise" is THE perfect Rock Song...!
Both Ellen Foley and Karla Devito had solo careers mostly in UK Ellen was even dating a member of The Clash., Oh and recently they did a project together :ruclips.net/video/Kh9QXC5SpuQ/видео.html
@@MrDportjoe She was actually singing, but the studio scrubbed her vocal track and dubbed in Foley's voice, for some reason.
We sat our daughter down when she was about 15 and played this video for her, and instructed her to listen all the way through to be aware of the consequences of making a decision in the “heat” of the moment. This came out just before my 18th birthday. I think it was the first album I purchased with the money I earned from my first job. I had to keep it hidden because the album name was Bat Out of Hell and my parents would have taken it away. I also could play parts of it only when they weren’t home. Two Out of Three got a lot of radio play, and there were several singles released from the album. One of my favorites was Heaven Can Wait even though it was never released as a single. Meatloaf did some minor acting. He was in the movie Rocky Horror Picture Show (cult film from the 70s) as well as Fight Club, Wayne’s World, and others. His video for I’d Do Anything For Love was a very cinematic production. We lost him in 2022.
Meatloaf always considered himself an actor who happens to know how to sing.....no matter the endeavor...he did it big and outstanding!
He definitely went all out! Loved this performance and can’t wait to hear more!
@@setonhillstudios top movie with him in it that might like Tenacious D and Formula 51
bat out of hell will become one of your all-time favorite albums the first time you hear it
The announcer for the 'baseball' part was none other than the legendary Phil Rizzuto. Rizzuto was a Hall of Fame Major League baseball player in the 40s and 50s and afterwards spent some 40 years as the radio and TV announcer for the Yankees. He received a Gold Record for his contribution on this song.
Jim Steinman was the writer for this album and most of Meatloafs albums, as well as having written hits for several other artists ("Total Eclipse of the Heart" "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" "Its All Coming Back to Me Now".) He also is playing the piano here and on many of the tracks. Steinman and Meat would have falling outs at times but would come back to work together and remained close friends till they both passed within a few months of each other a couple years ago. You find a lot of plot twists and word play in Steinmans writing as well as a lot of operatic/musical theater influences, which worked very well for Meatloaf being the actor/stage performer that he was.
Meat Loaf is one act I would have loved to see live.
I bet that would have been a blast! I can’t wait to check out more from him cause this blew my mind! 🤯
Rock Opera at its best.
💯 This was EPIC!!! 🔥
Meatloaf played Eddie the delivery boy in Rocky Horror Picture Show. And they had him for dinner.
He started in NYC doing musicals. He even had a role in the movie version of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Then he went on to an acting career, he always said "I'm an actor who can just happen to sing.
He was an original cast member of Hair and Rocky Horror. Hair on Broadway and RHPS in Los Angeles.
Meatloaf’s background was in musical theatre and he was a pure showman. This video was actually used in the 80’s in some sex ed programs as a conversation starter.
Yeah, he is both an actor and a singer. His first break was in Rocky Horror ON BROADWAY!
The whole album "Bat out of Hell" is a masterpiece. Meatloaf and Jim Stienman were a magical combination. The title track is sheer genius and well worth watching.
MORE MEAT LOAF!!!
One of the three greatest male rock voices of all time, alongside Freddie Mercury and Jimmy Barnes. Literally anything you check out by him is a masterpiece vocally. The entire Bat Out Of Hell album was a continuous story where a guy meets the girl of his dreams and falls in love, pursues her until they're in a relationship which feels great, then she tells him that she wants him and needs him but will never love him so he wanders sadly forward in life and connects with another girl from school who he promises to marry just to get her to sleep with him and it goes very badly because really, she's the rebound. One night after decades of marriage, he's had enough and takes off on his motorbike intending to never come back but crashes it over the edge of a cliff leaving him dying in the bottom of a pit all torn and twisted (BooH song 1). As he's dying, he flashes back on his life (songs 2-6) and realizes that his wife was always there for him and he wasted all the years angry that she wasn't that first true love that he was thinking of, but she loved him and took care of him and encouraged him and for crying out loud, he does love her! But sadly this revelation only comes on the edge of death as he's fading away. Fortunately (or not depending on your perspective), a member of the undead comes upon him and turns him into a vampire. He spends decades wandering the Earth as a soulless vessel until he comes upon somebody who he falls in love with and who loves him back - somebody that he'll never say he's going to love her forever and never leave just to get her into bed - he'd do anything for love, but he's learned his lesson and he won't do that.
So ya: listen to this album in order: You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth, Heaven Can Wait, All Revved Up With No Place to Go, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, Paradise by the Dashboard Light, and For Crying Out Loud. Then move on to Peel Out, I'm Gonna Love Her For Both of Us, More Than You Deserve, I'll Kill You If You Don't Come Back, Read 'em and Weep, Dead Ringer For Love (with Cher), Bad Attitude, Modern Girl, Nowhere Fast, Surf's Up, I'd Do Anything for Love (but I Won't Do That), Life is a Lemon and I Want My Money Back, Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through, Out of the Frying Pan (and Into the Fire), Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are, Everything Louder Than Everything Else, Where the Rubber Meets the Road, I'd Lie for You (and That's the Truth), Couldn't Have Said It Better, Did I Say That?, The Monster is Loose, Blind as a Bat, It's All Coming Back to Me Now, Bad for Good, Alive, What About Love?, The Future Ain't What It Used To Be, Peace on Earth, If I Can't Have You, Elvis in Vegas, Going All the Way is Just A Start (A Song in 6 Movements), Loving You's a Dirty Job (but Somebody's Gotta Do It), Souvenirs, and A Time for Heroes. I'd say those are his 10/10 songs. Then you can move onto his 9.5/10 catalogue.
Jim Steinman wrote this. He was an impressive songwriter, possibly the greatest lyricist modern music has ever know. His work with Bonnie Tyler (Rebel Without A Clue, Ravishing, Total Eclipse of the Heart, Making Love Out of Nothing At All, I Need A Hero) is worth checking out. His work with Pandora's Box (everything they ever did) is also brilliant.
I remember when then this was popular among as us teens (at the time lol).
It's one of the greatest rock performances ever!!! , RIP Meatloaf.
"You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" by Meat Loaf is another genius tune worth reacting to.
Thanks for the recommendation and swinging by the channel! This was such a fun one!
Another Meatloaf (RIP} song among many is" You took the words right out of my mouth".
Thanks for the recommendation! Everyone keeps saying he has some great ones out there! Definitely have to check them out!
It’s a movie it’s a song it’s our lives paradise by the dashboard lights.
Start at track one and play the album non stop. One of the best EVER.
Definitely going down! Thanks for watching!
Meatloaf "Its all coming back to me now"
This was called rock opera, and Meatloaf was a master at it. And yes, he did live musical stage shows. Plus he's been in a good number of t.v. shows and some movies.
I love " Life is a lemon and,I want my money back" He has many great songs...
His live shows were an experience.
Thanks for the suggestions! Did you ever get a chance to go to one of his live shows?
His musical secret, Meat Loaf said, was that he approached every song like an actor preparing for a role. “I can't sing unless there's a character,” he told the London Observer in 2003. (From the Washington Post)
Wow! That is such a unique perspective and makes perfect sense! That definitely probably led to his overall success!
Meatloaf got his start on stage. The play Hair I believe, then he did the stage production of Rocky Horror Picture Show. He always said that he was an actor who just happened to able to sing as well. He has at least 50 movie credits.
He left everything on stage FM during his live shows. Often collapsing backstage from exhaustion. Just to do it all again the next night.
This isn't an insult, but your innocence is funny and refreshing. 😆
Haha 😂 No insult taken! I’m glad it put a smile on your face! Have a great one!
Meatloaf was one of the best...he was an a amazing singer and performer...He was also an actor..and producer/director. Ellen Foley, who sang on the album, declined to be on the Bat Out Of Hell tour, and Karla DeVito assumed live performance responsibilities, so the music video was created by syncing the video of DeVito's performance to the audio of Foley's vocals.
Yes Meatloaf was an actor too . His first role was a few years prior to this . He played Eddie, in the Now legendary cult classic " The Rocky Horror Picture Show". He continued to act in films even years after his music career slowed. His most recent role before his death was the Jack Black film " Tenacious D and the Pick of Destinty" . This song was a legend. It became a cult classic in its own right.
He gave in!! Now it’s a horrible marriage but he won’t break his vow. Best line ever - praying for the end of time!!!
🤣😂 So good!!!
I really enjoyed your reaction- thanks! All of Meatloaf's music was written by Jim Steinman, an amazing songwriter of the best power rock ballads for several bands and solo artists during the late 70s and throughout the 80s but sadly many people have never heard of Jim Steinman. Steinman wrote all of the music for Air Supply, wrote "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" for Bonnie Tyler, wrote several big hits for Cher just to name a few. I would highly recommend checking out Meat Loaf's "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" and "Hot Summer Night/You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth". In the originals, you will see Steinman playing the piano and he has a brief part in the beginning of "Hot Summer Night/Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth".
Thanks so much for the kind words and all the info! Jim Steinman wrote some bangers! 😳
Bat out of hell was one of the biggest selling albums of all time. Written by Jim Steinman. He also wrote for other artists (Bonnie Tyler, Celine Dion).
Meatloaf played Eddie in the Rocky Horror Picture Show
Oh cool! Meat Loaf was definitely a performer it seems! 😃
Bro, I’ve watched almost every reaction of this song! Your reaction is absolutely one of the best ones I have seen. The only one that notices the look on meatloaf’s face when she was asking him if he would love her forever. I was 16 years old when this song came out. I lived this.
Haha 🤣 Really appreciate that! This whole thing was a wild ride but so much truth! Definitely have to check out more of his tunes! 🔥
@@setonhillstudios here are two you need to listen too! I’d do anything for Love but I won’t do that!! Major #1 song in many countries! And the follow up I’d Lie for you and that’s the truth. I am not sure if I have ever seen a reaction to the second one
If you want to see a wild video production, check out Meat Loaf's "I'll do anything for love, but I won't do that," the video itself was directed by none other than Michael Bay.
What?! That’s wild! Definitely have to check that out!
You need to listen to the entire album , Bat Out Of Hell. It was Meatloaf's debut album and this song is on it. Such an amazing album
Carla never got enough recognition for this song!!!
Kind of a cautionary tale: Don't get too involved too young. They went too far at 17. They got married and years later they regret it.
Makes sense! Loved this performance and genius writing! Thanks for watching! 😁
He regretted it,she didn't. He sings "it was so much better then it is today",she sings "it never felt so good,it never felt so right"
It can work - my wife was 15 and I was 18 when we got together, been very happily married for 32yrs, but it does take work, too many give up and divorce at the slightest hurdle these days....
@@martinarscott3524 💯 and congrats! Such a rare thing these days!
Congratulations, you just experienced your first rock opera!
Yessss! And loved every second of it!
One of the greats!! I wore out many cassettes of this album, especially during my divorce!
I was fortunate enough to go to two Meat Loaf concerts in England, the first was the Bat II tour when I was three rows from the front and right in the middle. He was just fantastic and could really put on a show. Miss him (and Jim Steinman) so much.
Was both an actor and performer on Broadway.
Incredible list of performers that played on this track such as Todd Rundgren, Max Weinberg and Edgar Winter just to name a few.
Oh wow! I did not realize they had that All-Star lineup on this track! No wonder it is so well done! Thanks for sharing!
Truest love song ever 😂😂
Jim Stieman wrote the song. Along with the whole album Bat Out Of Hell. Bat Out Of Hell II also.
Jim Steinman wrote this epic song. Meat Loaf was an extremely talented and mesmerizing performer, RIP. He did have a wonderful voice, no question. I see others have listed his acting credits so I won't do that but you can see that he was a performer in every sense of the word. This performance was considered rock opera-it was like a whole musical in one song, you're right! I highly recommend Bat Out of Hell, one of the most popular albums of all time. He was an original and he's sorely missed.
Thanks for the recommendation and all the info! Definitely such a unique performer and an incredibly talented singer! Have a great one! 😄

Two Out of Three Ain't Bad
Meat met Steinman when he auditioned for a musical (play) written by Steinman. He knew he had found the voice to go with his songs creating a legendary partnership. Meat gave you a little theater with a Rock and Roll show.
Actor? He was in the Rocky Horror Picture Show before he released his first album, which featured this great song....along with Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad.
The album Bat Out of Hell (this song is on it) sold 43 million copies worldwide- making it one of the best selling albums of all time. A musical was even made about it. I’m so surprised you haven’t heard it before but loving seeing you discover Meatloaf - his vocals are crazy good. ❤ 🇦🇺

This is the song that *everyone * knows. They may have never heard of Meatloaf, they may not be rock fans, it doesn't matter - they know this song.
The combination of Meatloaf and Jim Steinman was nothing short of musical magic. Every song on the album "Bat Out of Hell" is a classic. And yes, Meatloaf was the consummate performer - he left everything on stage. I saw him in the early 2010s, when he was far past his prime, but it didn't show - his whole performance was amazing even then.
He is definitely an unreal performer who put it all out there! This was a fun one for sure!
Meatloaf is a legend. I saw him at his concert, and it was fabulous!! Very theatrical!!! The first time I saw him was in "Rocky Horror Picture Show", and it was great! 2 out of 3 ain’t bad - omg another great song
The entire song was nostalgia from a long time into the marriage. The opening and ending lyrics... "It was long ago, and it was far away, and it was so much better than it is today".
This song was actually used in some schools sex-ed classes about the pressures of teenage desire, and how making a decision and promises when you're desperately horny can have LONG-lasting consequences.
Amusingly, I've heard that Meatloaf found out the song was being used for teaching when his daughter came home from middle school and told her dad that she had listened to one of his hits in class, for school.
🤣😂🤣 That’s hilarious! Imagine listening to your dad singing in school for a sex education class!
“Two out of three ain’t bad” - another genius plot you won’t see coming.
Credit to Jim Steinman who has passed who wrote and produced this. He was genius, put in Meatloaf and Helen and its the perfect storm - sadly I believe both have passed.
This intro for you gives you two trails to follow - Meat Loaf's catalog and Jim Steinman's productions. You will find amazing and unexpected hits by following either of these paths. While Meat was a genius in performance and stage presence, Jim Steinman was the genius that wrote, composed, and produced more hits for more artists than you can count....
