I like the fact we can hear your keyboard and mouse while you play, in my opinion it sounds more like watching a friend play a game rather then a youtuber which is relaxing

AI doesn't do much, in my opinion. Maybe more fun to have to create some pressure/urgency, but that's about it.
OK, gonna mention another game since it just got an update--Mashinky. Still EA but has a very good foundation; the difference is there are multiple tokens needed to buy different things and advance. So you can't just pile up a zillion gold--you have to get log tokens, and coal tokens, etc.
I've found that the best way to play it is to try and advance to the final era in the fastest date possible; you could spent literal decades upgrading track and cars to make your trains more efficient, OR, push ahead with older stuff to get to that end era faster. Makes for an interesting push-pull.

Which way are you arguing the cites are bad? Too regular or not regular enough? Would be interesting if ONE city on the map were strict grid based, but all the rest were weird combos of irregular streets, parks, spaces, etc. Maybe the biggest city is NOT the grid-based one, making you think about if you want to deal with traffic there or not...
Mashinky! I enjoyed it but funny enough I didn't like that it doesn't use money. The tokens were interesting, innovative, but ultimately I'm a tycoon who wants $$.
In RoI, I don't like city layouts which look a bit nonsensical. Like the double two-way roads. Maybe I've been unlucky with the random gen, or maybe that's what real cities are.
