VFIO enthusiasts prefer X570 as it has better segregated iommu groups whereas B550 sucks at it due to the half baked default ACS implementation by asmedia.

M.2 drives are relevant for an Engineering / Design Workstation, this motherboard is ideal for that use. In a Workstation we used to have one or more RAID arrays nowadays you can use NVMe drives instead for Boot/Applications, Scratch/Output, and Data/Source. This is useful for Engineering Simulations and 3D Design workflows, the same applies to Multi-GPU for Compute usage. Again, this board is perfect for that. Thanks for such great content! I also like the videos you made for Gamers Nexus.

  • @zig131

The thing with M2 slots is cost per capacity is just going to keep dropping and modern SSDs have really good lifespans.
And NVME (albeit PCI 3.0) is priced very similar and sometimes cheaper than SATA 2.5"
So having a load of slots gives you the possibility of buying a 500GB/1TB drive now, then getting a 1TB/2TB even later, then a 2TB/4TB drive even later.
You can buy the best value drive at the right moment and not worry about having to replace it later.

Something that I love of this improved lineup is finally, they moved the battery far from under the pcix16 armored slot. It was annoying. However, for who want to pay less but have one of those, the Gigabyte GA-X570S Aorus Pro AX it's around 20% less expensive and give everything most users need. It's called " PRO" but it's more likely an improved version of the Ultra. Still, good mobo and thanks to share.

Even if it sounds contrary: Would be very curious what would be possible with ECC UDIMMs if someone really knowledgeable tunes them. Bumping up the DDR4 frequency with loose auto timings is quite easy but as soon as you touch the timings it gets hairy pretty quickly.

I did memory overclock a threadripper server I built up to 3600 IRRC not to OC but to force it to throw errors in both memtest and Windows. I wasn’t able to make it unstable. Not that it didn’t report any errors but it was rock solid. I let go after that. Windows never crashed etc. It had total of 16 ranks. There were no 2 rank 32 gig sticks like there is now. It is a great board, but they decided to make it Rocket Science to remove all the frilly stuff to swap-out the WiFi module for 6E or 7. Is there some hidden lesson plan for learning what to do for that?
in order to successfully swap it out.
Yopurs look radically different from this one, at the same price.
Three M.2 slots on the (Rev. 1.2) board.
If installing three NVMe lose SATA 4 & 5, so stuck a 2TB SATA M.2 SSD in.
An xtra x1 slot on it also.
Which (Rev. 1.?) is this one?
the 1.2 still has the Dual BIOS, with two single pole-double throw switches. And do not see what you are talking about with your older rev..
Using the Clear CMOS button on the rear is a chore compared to just shorting the twin pins by thr front panel header..
It REQUIRES the power supply unplugged, and once it did not reset anything after thirty seconds, so at least a minu8te holding i9t there, so I bought an external switch for the one using the motherboard jumpers outside the case.
    Yours looks way different.
    Thankn

On Asus it's like 6 unsuccessful auto-retries before it starts in Safe Mode..and that can take a LONG time. To make sure: to disable automatic dual bios on the two button non-S original Master, should I put the first switch on single bios, then if the pc fails to boot, I switch the second button to the other bios? I’ve had it so far on dual bios, which is automatic, right? I’ve had a couple boot failures when it switched back and forth between the two bios’s, eventually settling on one. Is this the automatic behavior and BZ is saying I should be doing this manually? The manual doesn’t go into much depth on this. Any help welcome, thx.

This does seem overpriced, I guess if you fill all the PCIe lanes $50 doesn't matter that much.
One question: Does the 'S' chipset use less power than the vanilla x570? Those tiny fans are worse than coil whine.
I'm looking forward to part 2 where you cover the PCIe/ M.2 config*.😉
*Can split the x16 lanes to x8+x8 or x8+x4+x4. So 3x M.2 drives direct to the CPU if it's the same setup as the previous Aorus Master.

I have the first version of X570 Aorus Master, it does have a fan on the chipset, but I don't hear it at all when it is running. The only advantage of X570 over B550 is the 2nd PCIe slot can take PCIe 4.0 SSD . You can do RAID 0 to get insane IOPS . Upcoming Microsoft DirectStorage which is already in XBox consoles promises better fps with faster storage.

@@AndresReviews It has one more M.2 slot. The same can be achieved on the Xtreme with a PCIe card. USB 3.2 requires compatiible devices and thus far there are not too many of those. Besides one of the original revsions brought the TB header to the Xtreme and TB is still faster than USB 3.2 anyway.
Xtreme has overbuilt cooling because it's passve and Dual-NIC and Dual-BIOS. Both things the X570S version lacks. I mean if you already have the Xtreme it makes no sense to downgrade to the Master. Buying new i would argue the old Master is actually better. I doubt anyone is buying Xtreme these days tho. In any way even if I decided to stay with Xtreme I still would like to have the one ver.2.0 wchich has the Active OC Tuner. But if I sell my current Xtreme it will be a hard decision to buy a new Xtreme 2.0 instead of just new Master. Dual-NIC is great, but practically useless for me since I use one gigabit connection.
