You got spike spiegel to do tears in the rain. This is a gift to mankind
A very special thank you to the incomparable Steve Blum for lending that magic voice to the Tears in Rain sequence.
That small tribute to Rutger Hauer is one of my favorite things I've ever worked on, and to hear Spike Spiegel say those legendary words for the first time was truly incredible.
Legendary
Thank you and Steve Blum! It's absurd how happy this video made me, for real. Thanks man. Steve Blum has always been my favorite voice actor.
While he was speaking and the saxophone was behind him I legit got goosebumps.
That was an insane experience to hear. I was so baffled but also so in awe. Thank you again for all the hard work you put into these videos, and I hope you're doing well.
Welcome back Kap.
Hearing Steve Blum recite those line... Man. That gave me chills.
Thank you Kap.
can't believe I can her Spike recite that.
I’ve come back at least a dozen times since the vid just go watch the bit
Especially with space lion playing in the background.
Same!
💯🥲
2:12 - 2:18 that transition is insane 🔥
This man makes nothing but absolute bangers. Always worth the wait.
Amen!!!
I was a boy. They were two girls. Can I make it any more obvious? I am RUclips's ALPHA MALE. Acknowledge it, dear ato
Agree
facts
So true! (:
One of my closest younger brothers favorite series is cowboy bebop. He had tattooed Spike's ship over his heart. He would've loved hearing Spike say Bat's last soliloquy from Bladerunner. Sadly, my brother died of a heart attack at age 25. I really miss him.
Thanks for doing this, kaptainkristian. It means a lot to me and brings nostalgia out from past times.
Man hearing Steve Blum as Spike reciting the legendary Tears In Rain sequence is something I never knew I needed in my life till now. When Space Lion kicked in and he started talking I legitimately got chills up my spine. Thank you for this.
Dystopian worlds in science fiction are supposed to be gloomy and scarily dark, but the flashing neon lights, advanced technology, and cool aesthetics (especially the Japanese themed ones) keeps you come in company to makes the world alive. That's what make cyberpunk so special.
Akira comes in mind as to what influenced from Bladerunner.
I think that's why it's so popular. It's dystopian enough to make you feel lost and hopeless, but there's still enough light to make you want to keep going anyway.

I would’ve said ghost in the shell but that out way way later in 1995
That being there’s one game that has this type esthetic down if you wanna check it out, it’s called signalis
This mans editing style is on another level, his videos are literally always worth the wait
I was literally about to comment this
I figuratively love these videos
Never clicked so fast in my LIFE
Holy fuck SAME
Fucking same
Yep.
Same
This is poetry.
You are an artist.
You've gotten to the point where Steve Blum is involved, this is why you're one of the best.
5:20 goosebumps. hearing Spike read my favorite quote from my favorite movie, that is an indescribable feeling. thank you, kaptain, I'll wait as long as you need to take, a new video is always and eternally worth it.
The editing between traditional 2D animation, live action, and CGI 20+ years apart and making it seamless is God-tier.
This might be one of the best video essays on RUclips ever made.
Cyberpunk dystopias are always dark and dreary, ready to remind you of despair. But I think the whole point of that setting and a materialistic modern world of machines is to provide us a sharp contrast in which humanity shines through like the neon lights blazing in the smog. These stories always start with the machines and how cool they may seem, but the end is always about humanity in humans or otherwise. And that's why I love them - it's one thing to have a story of humans falling in love in romance dramas or fighting a big bad in action adventures, but to see a hopeful human or human-like figure do it in a world that is rid of hope is beautiful by itself. Great video, wasn't expecting to shed a tear but I think you did a great job in expressing the genre and these two wonderful pieces of work.
You managed to give me that yearning feeling when watching a great show in only 7 minutes. Insane editing and pacing. Thank you for this video, and thank you for giving me the urge to rewatch Cowboy Bebop.
Absolutely stunning. I've never noticed these details and it just makes me want to binge through both movies and the anime all over again, with a new love and insight.
Honestly couldn’t have said it better myself. I just started a rewatch of blade runner a few days ago, watching the first movie, all three prequel short films to 2049, and just finished the new black lotus series last night. It’s unbelievable this video was posted today. As a huge bebop fan I never really tied the two together but man this video was just made for me I feel.
will always drop everything for kaptain's videos, and even better to hear steve blum do the tears in rain monologue
I couldn't wait in the car, I put it up over my dash...
I'm a screenwriter, aspiring director. Cowboy Bebop and Blade Runner are my top 2 favorite cinematic experiences of all time. They're very inspiring in my writing. This video is so incredible. You have done such a phenomenal job with the pairing of the two. One of the best RUclips videos I've ever seen. Kudos man. Thank you so much. Such a joy to watch.
kaptainkristian makes the highest quality video essays out there
And its not even close
We back baby
My first ever video that I didn't skip the in-vid ad. That's how good this video is.
This is such an incredible video you have made kristian especially with the editing and the parallels that _Blade Runner_ and _Cowboy Bebop_ have in common.
On top of that, hearing Steve Blum providing Roy Batty's final last words from the film, just gets me chills and feels just like how Spike Spiegel would've said it in the anime.
Same. That part blew my mind!
Evertime I watch this video, it does 2 things 1. Inspire me to create
2. Reminds me of the value of life
It's great to see you back! This honestly is one of my favorite video essay channels on RUclips.
This one immediately got my attention. Two of my favorite stories, by kaptainkristian, and starring Steve Blum? Well now _I know_ I have to watch this.
Im working on a cyberpunk noir novel right now inspired by Blade Runner, Edgerunner, and Cowboy Bebop. This video was jaw dropping man. Really well done.
Just amazing - intertwining the films, the audio, Steve Blum's beautiful Spike... And it flows so seamlessly I'm awestruck.
These two icons plus ghost in the shell really define so much about the genre, and the investigation of humanity for me. Thank you so much for putting those feelings into words and art
I love how the dot on the "see you blade runner" falls - tears, just tears
Waiting years for videos is like waiting for dad to come back from the store. That being said, I'm not complaining.
I’ve been waiting so long
this is the best video i've ever watched on youtube. The use of Space Lion towards the end is just perfect.
MOM DAD GET IN HERE HES BACK
This is one of the most beautiful videos I've ever watched. Brief, but profound.
Your visual editing has never failed but the auditory transitions from this video feel SO much cleaner and thought out than before. Glad to have you back Kap.
A master improves.
It was so nice of Steve to be a part of this!
Your essays-all your essays- are fucking amazing, incomparable. I’m always completely blown away by your tact and precision, your reverence for your subject matter, and your (frankly frustrating) concise exercise in brevity. You are the real deal man
Thanks for putting this together. I choked up hearing Steve Blum read Batty's final words.
I only saw Blade Runner 2049 last year and seeing this comparison only gives me more goosebumps about why it’s easily one of my all time favorites. Glad to see you back sir, and thank you Steve for that goddamn rendition.
i have no words , its juts beautiful
Holy hell man. I love that you're exploring your own meaning with making these videos, blending straightforward breakdown vids with your own narrative and emotional explorations, looking for what you get out of making these and what directions you want to go.
I also love your exploration of interconnections, I feel as if both Bebop and Blade Runner explore the positive and negative of connection. Human connection being the thing that we all need, but even corporate connections and corruption becoming a virus, or cancer, that is as vast as it is impossible to kill. Both stories showing humans afloat in an uncaring ecosystem, and forced to define their roles and what connections they need for themselves, no matter how trivial they are to others.
Amazing work.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
This video is a masterpiece, Blade Runner and Cowboy Bebop in parallel and their similarities, thanks for that
No exaggeration. This channel is one of the best film channels on RUclips. I don’t care how much length of time there is between videos.
He’s back!
damn that Steve Blum monologue at the end kills me
This might be one of the most beatiful youtubve videos ever created. I got chills down my spine when Spike spoke the Roy Batty line. Both these stories have had such a postivie impact on me. Thank you sir for putting them together
I get a kaptainKristian notification and I run to my computer. As an editor myself, it is always a delight to watch your videos. Keep up the great work Kristian.
The king has returned!
Back like he never left
Wow. That was a dopamine hit I wasn't expecting!
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Man, the Myth, the Legend!!!
Good to have you back, Kap'n!
Oh my, 2 videos within 2 months. 2022 is shaping up to be a blessed year!
Quality over quantity. There's a few of these videos I go back and re-watch once or twice a year even though I've already seen them so many times. There's not a lot of them but they're so well made and impactful.
I ascended when I heard Steve quote Blade Runner. Absolutely sublime.
Bang.....
My day has been so rough, but this just salvaged it.
My last months has been so rough, and this made me so happy.
(By the way I am not including my problems since 2002, just these specific months)
This video made me cry bro
Having watched and loved both, this really hits the feels.
Two of my favorite IPs. Missed seeing your stuff! And Steve Blum delivering Batty’s soliloquy? *chefs kiss*
Every time he puts out something new it gives me just a few short minutes of forgetting the world is on fire lol he draws you in like little else can
I stopped my work when i got your notification, your videos are like an event
Your work is so amazing and inspiring, thank you for sharing with us 🌿
When an essay about art becomes art itself.
I just want to say, from consumer to creator. It means the world to me to hear Steve Blum read tears in rain. Thank you for being the reason that exists.
2:13 this is the cleanest transition I've ever seen
my mind was absolutely blown hearing blade runner lines coming from spike's voice
I didn't think I'd get choked up by hearing Blum's voice with that monologue, as I haven't seen all of the Cowboy Beebop show or even the biggest fan of the original Blade Runner.
But goddamn it, it happened. I don't know if I should thank him or Kristian, but I'll just thank both.
Absolutely beautiful video. Thanks Kaptain
This is more like a poem than an essay, and it's beautiful.
Cowboy Bebop when it launched: dude, it's so cool and fun! You have to watch it! The characters, the subplots, the humor, it's great! Cowboy bebop now: truly a timeless masterpiece. And I was 20yo when I watched Cowboy for the fisrt time in 1999. I didn't expect that it would become a reference for sci-fi, humour and quality scripting for generations to come. Same with Lain and Matrix. I'm glad I experienced them when they released and what they became in modern culture.
7 minutes, 12 minutes, doesn’t matter. Every minute is a painting.
Damn I got chills from that ending.
I like how you randomly came back like nothing happened
Roy Betty passed away in fake 2019 and Rutger Hauer passed away in real 2019.
Amazing video! Steve Blum reading out those lines from Bladerunner was kinda surreal. Really cool!
Long time no see 👀
The inspired becomes the inspiration - best line you ever said
I am so happy you're making videos again, kap. Glad to have you back
YAH uploaded on my BIRTHDAY thank you.
Literal full body chills at the end
You disappear for 2 years yet are back and feel like you haven't skipped a beat. Your essays are some of the most perfect on this platform
Three of my favorite things: Cowboy Bebop, Blade Runner, and kaptainkristian. Amazing video!
I forgot how mesmerising the voices of cowboy bebop really are. the voice work of the english dub really is outstanding, and a gold standard for any dubbed media. I'm waiting patiently for the day we can see a crew as perfectly casted as cowboy bebop's ship dwellers and the people around them
Man... 1:30 of video were enough to give me chills
What a return.
Dude SOOO FUCKING happy your back man! You editing and skill is ONE OF A KIND!
just watched this with will neff on twitch, totally glad for it, what an amazing video
That opening was perfect
Space Lion from The Cowboy Bebop soundtrack is truly the work of a Mastermind
That was really, really good. Had heard of Cowboy Bebop, but was amazed at how much homage it paid to both BladeRunners. The pairings here were immaculate.
A work of art, about three works of art.
No Blade Runner 2 paid homage to Bebop. CB came out in 1998
I have to admit, that you bought me with Steve Blum's recreating Roy Batty's monologue :)
THE KING HAS RETURNED, LONG LIVE TBHE KING
HE DOESN'T MISS
Coming back after finally seeing Bladerunner, it just hits different
I was gooning the whole time I watched this and I must say it was fantastic!
Greatest line in the whole video: "And I'll be seeing you all, VERY soon."
You yourself have made these two pleasantly happy
The legends foretold of your return. We missed you greatly.
It’s crazy that I just watched Blade Runner 2049 yesterday and then this video came out the next day. I am fan of both Cowboy Bebop and Blade Runner and this video was amazing
Goodness gracious sakes alive. This may be the best video essay I've ever seen on RUclips. Brilliant, even transcendent, in its editing. Perfect use of music. Subtle, yet beautiful, in how it weaves together the two. So incredibly transformative. The amount of work that must have gone into this is awe-inspiring. So, so much beautiful imagery. And that ending... Wow. This is amazing. Truly amazing.
kaptainkristian, there is no other content on any platform i get more excited to watch than your videos. Your attention to detail is such a pleasure to see. 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
