Some people think that is is very easy to jump on a plane with a load of money and be able to settle in Thailand. Well money may help you but there are many surprises in store, and in this video we cover a few.
“They don’t speak English”
You mean YOU don’t speak Thai.
I don't understand this guy. He says he doesn't want to learn thai, has no desire to learn beyond the basics, but complains that he can't understand them and says he absolutely hates not being able to talk to them. He's completely self aware too which is even more bizarre. He says knowing English is good enough for him, then in the same video complains that a THAI person in THAILAND doesn't speak English. I think this guy just likes to complain tbh lol.
@@ridezeshoopuf5430 I agree with you guys. too much complains .LOL
As a guy who used to live in Pathumthani and currently living in Pattaya, I totally understand where you are coming from. Love watching you rant, 555.
"Its not a negative critique" 🤣🤣🤣
Welcome to my world Dave ??
Your fucking brilliant 😅 tell em that's just the way it is!
How many cups of coffee do you usually drink in a day?
Did you notice that the others have their shirt buttoned?
I don't like to button my shirt
And claiming to be "professional" 555
are you bloody Giorgio Armani by any chance? F hell
Its illegal for men to be topless in public in thailand
It is bloody baking hot outside now in thailand.
I hate visiting the in-laws in Surin. Boring as he'll. No one speaks English. The brothers all support Liverpool. Squat toilets. Green tap water etc etc. I'd rather just stay in Bangkok and enjoy the conveniences.
At my age I would have a difficult time staying in poor conditions.
But IF I'd have to stay a few days in basic accomodation in a village, I would DEFINITELY want it to be Surin !
The local language and local culture is just amazing. I learned enoug Surin Khmer to get along very well with locals. Such an ice-breaker.
Hmmm...I hadn't thought about some of that...🤔
My wives fathers home is in Sing Buri and we visited once from Chiang Mai over Songkran to do that same ceremony where you bless the elders and honor the ancestors. I was actually really touched but the honoring of the deceased family members and strongly feel we should be doing the same back in our home countries. Having said that those central plans regions of Thailand are absolutely horrible and depressing. It's not just you, those places suck and should be avoided at all cost. You're crazy if you think you're going to retire there and do ok. Please don't do it. 🙏
For the sake of sanity....don't get yourself into that situation!
Sell everything and leave! Head back home and regroup. Get a job, save up and return when you’re fiscally ready.
Keeping it real since 1969
Time to learn Thai.
Yeah only way if long term plan is to stay in a rural spot.
Im not complaining I'm just complaining, are the best videos.
😂😂 entertaining, ain't it.
😂😂 I follow his channel just for his constant complaining. Hilareous. 😅
Content is useless. Entertainment is priceless 😅
Great rant, I laughed my ass off. Get that beer down your neck and forget about everything 😂
Fucking right mate, you learn Thai faster too😂
Nicely says the focus of this man.
I think you need a vacation. In your latest videos you seem stressed and unhappy. Maybe a trip back to the old country for a visit?
Time for you to move home mate!!!
Nice mosquito farm behind you…
Its everywhere the same its really hard if people dont like you there are always difficult people
Good that you tell the world what thailand is really like. So every knows. It will wake up lots of foreigners. Especially men with thai girlfriends.
I love your 'I'm not complaining but...' videos 😅
Mate your not missing much in terms of talking to rural farmers anyway. Maybe for a few laughs but that's about it.
You don't have enough subscribers to pretend that you are making any money from youtube.
Yep... maybe 200 usd/month. And adsense does not reward well for this kind of subject and audience.😢😢🎉🎉😅
what is the use of your remark ?
It's not so much that you have no desire to learn Thai...it's that you realise that even if you learned it...they would have nothing to say that would be worth the effort of learning Thai....peasants are peasants are peasants...God bless their simple souls....but for a Western in-depth heartfelt conversation..look elsewhere...
It's good that you accept the responsibility of this problem. It also means you can change it.
I'm sure you already know that if you studied some Thai language, it would be far less of a problem. Start with small goals...learn vocabulary and grammar...50 words, then 100 words, get up to 500 words and you'll be golden. Sometimes adults have to do things we don't like or want to do.
With the internet and RUclips, it's all FREE. And the fun thing is you can practice your Thai with her family. They will get a kick out of it and also be very supportive. Then these family gatherings won't be such a problem for you.
They may laugh, but it's NOT at you. It's just them expressing happiness. And you can somehow integrate it into your YT channel. Document your progress. That may increase your motivation.
Even if he could speak the language, what’s he actually going to have in common with them? I doubt very much!
You’ve been there for years and you never considered seriously learning the language? Who’s fought is that? You’ve got a limited growth mindset. That’s a result for failure.
I am an American retired and living in a small village in Phetchabun. You need to be extremely comfortable in your own skin to comfortably live where hardly any English is spoken. I have my few down days but the majority of my days here are positive and quite enjoyable. But if you are the type of person that needs to converse with other English speaking people you might want to stay in the tourist area's as the village is no place for you.
You should find a nice local place and enjoy the air con with a nice foot massage.
Why don’t you go to a professional Thai language school like they have all over the country and learn how to speak the language duh!
It's easy to learn to read I was there a year before I decided to learn to read Thai it helps knowing the pronunciation
You can learn in a few weeks
Good way to meet girls also I'd sit in restaurants practicing writing and Thai girls would come up and ask if need help pronouncing words...I was in my 20's
@@sociallypatterneddefect9580 i’m 25, thank a lot for the advice!
is thai that difficult? i can speak language and i’m native italian speaker, and we have for real a lot of vocabularies, i’ve heard thai is a very simple language in the grammar section
@@beau_de_jourit's definitely not an easy language coming from a European country.
You'll never achieve the same level comlared to learning most other European languages, but very doable to be able to communicate and fit in. Especially starting at your age.
Totally get it, thanks for sharing your honest thoughts and feelings.
I sit with my Thai family and have a great time because I make the effort to speak their language and they love that and engage with me.
But yeah… sometimes it can feel isolating
Sounds so boring and uninteresting when Thais find ferang fascinating 😅
Sir learn Tai
May change your life.
You're such clever person. 🎉
@@priscillaelse3956 no thanks it’s like Disney cartoon language. I’m not so clever back in uk but in Thailand I’m a genius 😂😂😂
I'm almost afraid to try to learn the language cuz I've heard myself destroy it already. 🙄
well .. only option in a way to understand the other side better .. as language is culture .. but in the end it feels like a herculean effort as one might never reach fully native .. but I guess that is not really required either ..
the much harder thing is to accept their logic .. as it will collide with yours ..
You always complain about the heat, yet you are ALWAYS wearing long sleeve blue jean shirts. WTF. are you to slow to figure it out?? lol. Alpha Omega rarely.
Good remark. He could include it in his previous video about "thai logic".😂😂😂😂
Are you the guy that makes the tea for the guy who makes the coffee ☕ ya spanker????
@@LeslieLaird Yes Leslie. Must have been hard growing up with a girls name.
@@DSmyth-qq9fo not as hard as giving you a slap fanny pad
you should integrate more.
i like the rants, and all, but, and i know its not easy.
it would be interesting seeing you interact more with your new family to be honest.
learn more thai
This is why I’m currently learning to speak Thai, years before I retire and move there. When I leave the UK and retire there I will be able to converse with the locals 👍
Well done 👏
By learning to speak, I guess you mean speak, read and write ? In case I guessed wrong I strongly urge you to learn to read and write also. It's extremely important when learning Thai/any language.
Stop being so insecure and do your own thing. Man up.
I'd be funny if it wasn't so sad. The frustration pouring out of you , I feel for you .
It seems like you're just a fixture .
Round peg in a square hole.
The least she should have done is to inform you, then you could have stayed in BKK
4 days a week in Bangkok and 3 days a week with your family as a new routine, don’t feel guilty just go and do it.
I guess you better improve your Thai. Anyway, brilliant rant ! Not easy to be in a com[pletely different culture.
Good lad back with another banger. Keep it up please,
Cheers mate!
The MOST IMPORTANT phrase in this whole video........ "I LOVE IT HERE".
It’s never paradise, it’s always a push pull, good and bad no matter where or with whom you find yourself.
Please accept our sincere sympathy for the nightmare your life is 😂😂😂😂😂❤
I don't want, i never wanted to, hahaha
Have a can of hard'n up😅
Yes mate they never give you any info , which is vital, and can see why ya get passed off, bin there an done but ivory infuriating
Yeah I've been mentioning this to my friends. I'm relocating to Thailand this year my girlfriend is from Surin, and if we live there, I will be in the exact same situation you just talked about
Anyone who starts out with "My girlfriend is from Surin" is bound to end in tears.
@@thailandreaction I sure hope not.
I agree with you 100%. You are complaining. "Complaining" or "Critiquing" is not the perfect word, though. You are "venting." An example is a parent who would be complaining about driving her child to school. Driving your kid to school isn't a complaint; it is just something you can vent about. You could complain about it; however, (in my opinion) "venting" is a better term.
My freind, I understand, plz go to the gym....maybe swimming in a pool....or a ice cold bath! Manage it my freind! Bless you! I hope to retire there in a few yrs also😊
In a foreign land, you will ALWAYS be a foreigner. You will ALWAYS be seen as a guest. It is nearly impossible to fully integrate into a new society with different culture and language and be recognized by them as one of their own. The best you can do is to put a smile on your face and go along with things that you don't understand. It often feels like isolation but once you fight it, you'll be miserable in a foreign land. That's the way it is and it comes along with the choices we make.
That denium shirt is too hot for thailand.
Wear a thin cotton t shirt instead. Less hot.
Easy for people to pass judgment it just shows their ignorance, I know exactly what you’re talking about and I agree with you
Great video.
Over 104 degrees f not worth it…..im Asian you can’t fool me
I’m in da nang Vietnam
Totally different mind set
Culturally and emotionally
I miss Da Nang. Vietnam in general. I'm stuck in the States and can't get out. I'm hoping later this year will be my big break. Haven't had a vacation in over 4 years. Just made it back as they were closing the airports for Covid and had to deal with the masks, lockdown, job loss, etc. ever since. I think I'm done with the West. Just need to get my affairs in order here and bankroll some money for the big move.
different for the better or the worse mate?
Yes, could you please explain? I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the differences, pros, and cons, etc.
@@beau_de_jour people here don’t sulk and hide behind polite mask as they do in Thailand.
Feels friendlier and better value
The first step to integration is mastering (learning) the language
Great,but you sound totally pissed.
My second April in Thailand and daily 42 C ! My 3 dogs don't leave the air-conditioned bedroom , hahaha .....
Brilliant ..Ive been there 15 years and speak Thai ,I get what your on and ive been there seen it done it .. Keep cool.
I agree it is hard in the village when you speak limited thai but I have found that when the drinks start to flow communication seems to get a bit easier
I feel your pain lol
I would have stayed and drank with them, I've done that before and it was a good laugh!
I'm sure he's done that countless time.
@@rayronald7269 He would have ended up paying for it all , that's why he is a bit upset about it
I also live in rural Thailand (far south) but I have not found that I feel excluded or left out at all. I think that has a lot to do with your personality.
to be honest may be that the people in the south are different.
Most of foreigners merry isaan ladies for “whatever reason” but looks like the south for us westerners is just Phi Phi, Phuket and infamous Patong and some islands here and there.
The provincies close to the malaysian border are so unspoken about, but for the very rare time i’ve talk about it they always say they are very very different and more cheerful people (i may be wrong tho, it’s just my idea)
if you can't understand the language you will feel isolated even if you smile to them or they smile to you.
I think it’s more to do with your ignorance
I understand the intense heat, you won't find any relief in Bangkok. In factั่ it will be hotter there at night time.
You don't belong there.
You can't tell that the ritual is about paying respect to elders?
It feels like -1 in London. I need some heat.
40 degree with 100% humidity isn’t the solution either, rather choose a mediterranean climate that’s just in between and enjoyable as well
With humidity it feels like over 47C here.
This must be a commercial from a Thai language school on why foreigners should need to learn Thai, right ? ... right ?
Best thing of a whole extended family or community not being able to speak English, is that it at least keeps away part of the foreigners. Would be completely overrun if otherwise.
The heat is quite something and needs acclimatisation to. It's in what you eat, when you eat and how much. Fluids is a different topic!
It kind of goes with the territory. I would want to know the language just so I could understand a little of what's being said. Many thai women don't want you knowing thai. Count yourself lucky to have a good one.
Wrong premis. It's very easy to settle here after 30 years never ever considered returning to UK
So you traveled from WigWang to Pontoon Tanee and cannot stand the heat? How wears denim in this weather.
I live in rural Thailand, l have a few friends here swiss American German all can speak English so lm ok.
You have some patience!
The buy a coffee helps you not the channel and you have no choice but to stay there because you haven't got a pot to piss in
😂😂
silly !
