Vetted immigrants which have resources like Thailand demands and an excess of affordable housing like Thailand has is different than what is happening in some Western countries.
@@woodyexplorer yes but the immigrants in Thailand don’t get a free accommodation and 500 euros of social help each months and the immigrants in Thailand don’t spread violence or any other things they don’t burn the Thai flag in the streets. Dave, where ever the Irish rocked up in any other country, they were never given anything by their new host country. They either paid their way or might have had some assistance from other Irish people that came before. Ireland cannot have an open door migration system where everyone has their hand out looking for freebies when our own are being denied any assistance. You know what it takes to live in the LOS, Ireland should use the same protocols.
Ireland is a bit more tolerant of immigrants than Thailand Dave. More immigrants working in the economy than any country in Europe, and they are handed full Irish citizenship after five years. Most of them entitled to free healthcare, unemployment benefit and a decent pension when they get older. Unlike Thailand where you are always a farang with no rights till the day you die. And that incredibly successful rugby team that you hate is the envy of the world. They are the only sporting organisation that happily brings together all traditions on the island. The GAA can`t say that, the soccer team can`t say that. They use a compromise anthem and flag when playing outside Ireland because that is the mature thing to do in a divided society. They represent all 32 counties not 26 after all. As an Irish Republican i am highly appreciative of any sport that brings together all the communities on the island so successfully. They are the ultimate proof of the advantages of a united Ireland. Me personally, i`ll be using my European passport to retire to the Italian Riviera, where it is arguably cheaper to live than Bangkok. Better food, better wine, better weather, better scenery as well. Hey, good luck to you in Bangkok, it`s a great city. But living there full time wouldnt be for everyone.
The food and wine is better in Bangkok as it is a cosmopolitan city where you can find any cuisine you want. Better scenery is subjective. If you want to move to Thailand to be "entitled" to healthcare and a pension from the Thai government, you've got the wrong idea.
I agree mate. I’m not at all keen on the idea of moving back to the UK after living in Thailand for 11 years. If I was pushed to move back to Europe I’d try an Eastern European country. Maybe a country in the balkans.
Great video! I've lived in England, Mexico, Texas and now Thailand. I'm staying here. Everywhere has its pro and cons but I'm just so much more chilled out here. The IRFU has done a better job developing an academy system than any other country on earth, and their success from mini rugby to the National squad is proof. Leinster in particular are providing consistent training through the schools, clubs, and even have a sub academy unlike anywhere else.
I can understand that. I've never been to Thailand but I plan to do so and I'm already thinking I may end up falling in love with the place. The cost of living out there is a big reason that is holds a lot of appeal. Thankfully I'm from UK and the GBP is still a strong currency, especially when it comes to Thai baht. Currently it's 46THB to 1GBP.

Which stability? You wear a nice Rolex walking in center london or Paris you get robbed. Stable in what? At 7pm everything is closed, 9-10pm restaurants don’t serve anymore. To rent a flat you got to provide millions of paper work while migrants get free accommodation and social benefits in the country you hold passport of. Stable…? Lol. Korea, Singapore, HK, Thailand and Vietnam. These are the places ❤ if you don’t know don’t worry
Not here to talk about Ireland but I hear you bro. I feel the same way about Thailand in general. Not just Bangkok or some other popular spot. Totally understand, totally feel you, totally respect 🫡 krup 🙏
There is no perfect country in the world - I have lived in so far 15 countries during my life time from SE - ASIA, Middle East, Europe and as well South America. I love Bangkok and Thailand but it is far from perfect, so is Dubai, Ireland (Dublin 6 I lived for 5 years) and also Brazil. If we know this, then every place can be fantastic.
Nowhere is perfect, but the cost of living is far lower in SE Asia/Thailand than it is in EU/UK/USA/OZ etc. On a good pension and/or receiving a nice passive income in their home countries, many retirees can live a good life in SE Asia especially.
Most probably when you say Thailand what you actually mean are the expat bubbles of Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai or Bangkok. In real Thailand, areas where only Thais live one of the first things you notice is that people are pretty xenophobic, this is Thailand. 😮
Interesting topic. I encourage you to do a collaboration on this very topic with Thairish Times. I’m sure you know his channel. You’re both Irish and both married to Thai women. Two different age groups with different perspectives. Just a thought!

I totally agree Dave. I'd also guess that almost all Westerners in Thailand feel just as you do, in not wanting to ever go back to their home country. The ones that I personally know, certainly do. Thailand has something very special...it allures the Westerner in a way that no other country does, or can.
I agree with most of what you say. Having said that, the lifestyle you get to enjoy in Thailand is based on your Western income (I imagine) which is something most Thais do not have. Most Thais with the dirt cheap pay here are broke AF so it is a privlege mostly Westerners get to have IMO.
Virtue-signalling is so last season my dear. Shouldn't it suffice for one to live here on their western income and the "broke AF" Thais don't rob them because they're "broke AF"? Oh btw, the majority of "broke AF" Thais do have relatives in the countryside who have rice in their fields, fish in their ponds, chicken & eggs, veggie, fruit trees and such around their humble houses kiss kiss muah muah
I can see not wanting to go back to the West, absolutely, totally agree! But as for want to stay in Thailand, that's something I just don't understand. I can't stand the way locals suck up to foreigners by speaking English and having no pride or self-worth whatsoever. It's a thing is Southeast Asia in general, the groveling. It's also annoying in Indonesia and Cambodia for example. I can't stand accommodating suck-ups. Give me a strong culture like South Korea any day, where you are a foreigner you need to assimilate and speak and read the language at an adult level or you can forget about getting what you want on a day-to-day basis. It's a much stronger society for this reason. The problem with South Korea is that I don't have the $500,000 or is it $800,000 USD now needed for the visa. Thailand charges only a tiny fraction of that to stay (depending if you invest or go for the Privilege Visa etc.)
No groveling in Japan 😂 you’d like it, most probably. As bloody irritating as the xenophobia can be or downright racism in many cases, nobody can ever accuse the Japanese of being grovellers
