Today we will take a look a windows sleep mode problem and how to fix it.
A lot of people use sleep mode on laptops and desktops and some people have trouble with the computer or laptop waking up from sleep mode. Today I will show you how to troubleshoot sleep mode on Windows 10 or Windows 11.

@@anjansarkar2124 in the BIOS you might have different choices of sleep S1 S2 S3 S4 . powercfg /a to see what is possible
@@x0vg5hs1 in a command line window type exactly what i wrote "powercfg /a" without the quotes and see what it tells you.

This is a great video. I was having issues with me not being able to manually put my computer to sleep through the PowerMenu. It kept waking up again one thing that I would add that turned out to be my was making sure that your power mode is set to balanced mine was set to best performance. I must've done it by accident and I wouldn't be able to put it to sleep. It would keep waking up one second after.

Thanks, the power plan settings fixed my problem with not being able to wake screen when using a KVM switch, due to keyboard and mouse now going to a USB 3.0 port.

I turn sleep mode off and use never all the time but that's just me because I'm constantly at the computer 💻. Another great video with plenty of good tips thank you for what you do appreciate it 🙂

I find that when having sleep mode issues uninstalling and reinstalling or updating your video driver usually solves the problem.

Thanks Brian again a video that I find very informative as I had no idea that so many things could switch my laptop on. Now I have my power set to the best performance and when I run the CMD prompt -lastwake it shows 0 and I know for a fact that the spacebar or mouse movement do wake the machine to the lock screen/PIN. So how come my lastwake command is showing nil results

I have an HP Windows 11 PC and installed few software and put a map network drive. but after restart or sleep few files went missing. Any thoughts?

make sure in the bios, the power sleep state is set to auto, not S1 (POS) as it won't sleep if it is.
Hey. By chance do you remember what was the specific setting in bios to enable USB ports for charging even with the PC is sleeping?
@@TheForce_Productions it may not be bios, might be in the windows device manager for the usb. Otherwise I don't know.

Really informative video, but When I put my HP Elitebook 840 G8 (windows 11) to sleep, it drains the battery really quickly (10% per hour) which is unusual and if I put it in my bag, it heats up even in sleep mode. I do not know if I need to change any settings, it seems as if the laptop is working even in sleep mode. Any guidance to resolve this issue is much appreciated.
Windows wakes itself up randomly from sleep. If i were you I'd never put my laptop in sleep and put it in a place without ventilation as it will cook your laptop. Use hibernation instead.
My problem is a little different in nature. I have a 2023 Zephyrus G14 (4060 version) and it often fully shuts down while in sleep mode. Sometimes after a few hours, sometimes after a few minutes of being in sleep mode. All latest drivers are installed. What can I do?

Hello! My man this video has been useful however I haven’t yet tested it on my laptop, if you could help me here I’d be more than grateful, basically I just bought a legion pro laptop, and during sleep (did this right out of the box) the laptop just isn’t quiet, he’s periodically making a fan thump almost, like it ramps up for a split second it almost sounds like a thump, is this normal? If I set it to hibernate will it stop that? I’d like to be able to close the lid and not have to shut down the PC some nights

I used to have hybrid sleep but now ever since I upgraded to win 11 I dont see it and when I chjeck in cmd it shows the hypervisor does not support this standby state
just altered the keyboard and mouse sleep interupt settings to not wake from sleep because I use wake-on-lan to wake my device when I want acces to my network shares
so I set the pc and monitor both go to sleep after 5 minutes, but after 5 minutes my screen is off but the pc fans are still running and the rgb light are still on. Can you please help me? Thanks!!!
Sometimes Ill put my PC to sleep, come back to it a couple hours later and it wont wake up. Pressing the keys, moving the mouse, pressing the power button does nothing, it just seems to go unresponsive. I was wondering what I could do to fix this?
My mapped network drive shows a red X when computer is in sleep mode (when not in sleep mode, everthing works fine). Anything I can do to eliminate this?

I appreciate your video but it only addresses unwanted waking up. My issue is failure to wake up from Sleep Mode. I've changed a few settings but it's an intermittent problem and nothing I've changed has stopped the problem.

Today I thought my pc turned off by its own so I just turned it off by the ups and turned off the ups but when I turned it on again in like 2 hours it was still on and was on sleep mode this whole time so that means pc on sleep mode can survive being disconnected from power source??!!

At least I was till recently after each a BIOS update & Windows updates. My motherboard is playing up now. ASUS ROG Strix Z590-i Wi-Fi Gaming BIOS v1701 on Windows 10 current. LED, fans & RGB is not going off in hibernate . CPU fan staying on in sleep and each is not responding to wake by USB keyboard / mouse anymore. I now have to press & hold PWR to finish off
Wake you'r pc to update/virus scan is the dumbest setting in windus :S. Allso didn't know fast startup could interfere. Thanx Brian, sleepmode can be a tricky.👍

My laptop is giving me a headache I have tried lotes of things when I stoped working with it for some time it will become dark while there is light on power button and cant wake it up except I do forced shut down and repress the power button which infact make me loose things that I was working with

If the mouse is cordless, couldn't you just turn the switch on it to "off" with the same results?

I just can't wake up my PC windows 10 from sleep mode using mouse or keyboard (both set to wake up on movement) I have not changed anything but since last week the only way to get the pc on again is pressing the power button which sends the pc into a full boot up. So it seems that selecting sleep mode is turning the pc off. I cannot understand why this is happening.
Hi for some weird reason, my computer just shuts off when I reawaken it from sleep, when it should continue from where I made it sleep.
I pull out then put back the RAMs but it don't do the trick.

My sleep mode completely disappeared from my system, after using cmd and checking power options it says sleep mode is disabled by firmware. Literally nothing is working to get it back

Use a tape to cover the power button led
If not then there would be a hdd cable from you pc case to motherboard unplug it this will result in never turning on the power button led
Trust me use the first step and cover it with black tape or stick a dark black color paper on it

Had my computer in sleep mode and we had a power outage and now I can’t even get into windows. Lights and fans turn on but I just get a black screen :(

i have PRO-X670-P-WIFI and when ı try to update new bios my windows is sleeping.... its not opening... what ı have to do... i update old version of bios to open it again :(
It used to work fine. Until i put both settings on never to do a full antivirus scan. When I put the settings back as they were the screen went off as it should but the pc never goes to sleep. Tried everything, no corrupted data, troubleshooted it though I don't have that installed as default in system settings troubleshooter for some reason. Followed your guide and everything was in order but the damn thing just doesn't want to go to sleep anymore. It's a desktop running on windows 11 and fully updated, drivers are fully updated too.
Check your BIOS settings, you need to have this kind of power state enabled there in order for it to work through Windows.
I have fast startup turned off, but I noticed there is a setting in the BIOS for fast startup should I turn it off in the BIOS too.
That's a different setting. It governs how much memory training and testing the BIOS does during boot. Usually you can leave this one on unless you're setting up overclocking. Some memory stick/motherboard combinations don't play nice-nice, and you need to leave it off.

I only have the choice of putting the monitor to sleep. I can do a hibernate mode in the power settings, but that basically shuts down the computer. This is true of W-11 on either my HP G4 mini's or my Lenovo M720g mini's. But sleep mode on both computers works fine on Win-10. Does anyone have any ideas on why Sleep mode for controlling the computer is not available?
Hi there. You should give your bios/uefi a check, sounds like you have suspension state disabled there.

the problem i have with my New PC/G13/win11 is when i go start power/sleep ...i have to do it 2-3 times till my PC goes to sleep & shut the monitor 2, i dont know whats the problem on it should works with one time attempt to goes to sleep
If your monitor is using an HDMI-DP adaptor, that's a probable culprit.

I really don't think so, I think it's some programs is constantly running in my computer cause that don't go to sleep, especially new PCs and computer they put the too much crap in as programs and apps an extension in started up I have to see what is running in the background and disable some of them as don't need 2 runs, I'm pretty sure some videos in the RUclips show me how

My main issue is it asks me to sign in. Where as just turning off and on requires only my pin.
I bougth an Alienware R16 around 9 months ago. When i go to sleep mode the fans go crazy and won't stop. This i spent 3 hours with Dell support and they didnt solve the problem.

Search command prompt type powercfg -lastwake then enter it show why it turning on then with the help of task manger disable it
IF YOU HAVE AN ASUS ROG LAPTOP AND IT WAKES UP FROM SLEEP MODE OR DOESN'T GO TO THAT MODE AT ALL THEN TRY TO TURN OFF THE F*CKING BLUETOOTH FUNCTION❗❗❗IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM
Also go to device manager and under network adaptors/properties/power saving config, uncheck "let this device to wake up the system".
My problem is that my screens can never turn off because I have several usb game pads connected. I have never been able to find a solution that works other than turning off my screens manually on the screens

Why wouldn't you use Sleep features or hibernate. I used it every single day all day long then hibernate by night.

I have the same problem. Had windows 10 Pro and never had any issues with waking the computer out of sleep mode with a touch of the mouse or touch of any keyboard key. Computer updated itself to windows 11 Pro and now when I put it in sleep mode or it goes into sleep mode after some time of inactivity, the pc turns on and the fans are running on high but the screen stays black so I have to unplug my pc and then restart it. What a pain, and I've tried everything. Went back the Windows 10 Pro - too bad support for is will end in 2025.
My new computer does not have "Allow hybrid sleep". They must have removed it.

I don't use sleep mode. My machines are on 24/7/365.
Some people leave pc on all the time.
None of these worked for me.
I even setup a blank screensaver and that doesn't even come on. my CMD powermgt -requests shows nothing in use. So infuriating. I've already lost one OLED monitor to burnin after being on 24/7
