There was a plan to replace the Danton's 9.4" two gun wing turrets with 12" single gun turrets giving a broadside of seven 12" guns but the French decided not to.
In comparison to other battleships of other nations of that era, the French overmatch those in the Mediterranean Sea. They were on par with some of the American and German battleships but outgunned by the British.
Overmatch Austria-Hungary’s and Italy’s. Ottoman & Greek navies not even close. As for the USA, the USN 12” guns (both 12”/45 & 12”/50) at 15 deg generally outranged both the French 340 mm & 305 mm at maximum elevations (12 or 15 deg). Even the USN 14”/45 had superior shell weight and range at 15 degrees elevation to the WW I 340 mm. The USN ships had deck armor with the “standard battleships” designs, USS Nevada onwards, with a balance of deck and side armor to provide for an “immune zone” within a range of expected battle ranges.
I like the French navy, I know of the tentions after the British attacked the French navy in 1940. Vive la France. Great again, take care, and all the best.
A strategic mistake to send skilled shipyard workers into the army. Meanwhile UK completed 2 QE battleships (BB), most of the R classes of BBs and Battlecruisers, HMS Hood, HMSs Glorious & Courageous plus C class cruisers galore and gaggles of destroyer classes.
I'm a long time subscriber and enjoy your videos but I wish you would add feet to the metric measurements that you put on your ships because i'm old!
Drach did a good video on this.
Great video man. GG
(Edit I was wrong I got it mix up with his video on French pre dreadnoughts. Sorry. Lol)
France; Expand The Navy sounds like a decent simulation game
If you improve your sound a bit, this channel could explode, like Drach.
Great photos, great info; thanks for posting!
Good stuff! Thanks…👍
