The theme of an antagonist holding the firm belief that this world is filled with imperfections. And that the duty falls upon himself, to cleanse said world of its impurities, so that it can usher in an age of beauty matched only by what he believes is to be found within his heart and ideals.
"King Dragon sends his regards..." chills every time.

0:39 to 0:56 was so badass, gave me chills. if FF9 got a remake, i'd be sorely disappointed if this wasn't in the soundtrack. awesome job!!

We'll be prepared to be disappointed because unfortunately game developers don't take fan submissions for orchestral music.

Agree with previous commentators: those drums should shake your soul. That being said, I was never a huge fan of Kuja's theme (preferred Dark Messenger) but this is a haunting, complex theme for a complex villain and suits him well. The choir really gives it that 'One Winged Angel' feel (eat your heart out, Sephiroth).

My problem with Those Chosen By The Planet is that it's too bombastic. Team Four Star's mix of it is much more fitting with its low eerieness.
And while I do better appreciate Sephiroth as a personal villain, being the embodiment of every dark voice in your mind in moments of anxiety and depression, coz that what he is at heart, more than even the walking fallout of Shinra's sheer hubris, Kuja is a better active classic villain.
And it's a testament to his skill at scheming that for all the damage he causes, a lot of his plans go awry, but he's able to salvage them by recycling what caused the previous one to fail.
Honestly, I rate Kuja higher than Kefka, even if the latter caused more damage, including winning.

@@reyonXIII To be fair, Kuja also won. He destroyed Terra and Garland, both of which he despised, AND as a bonus he *unmade creation*. The fact that Zidane and company were able to uno reverse that by defeating Necron doesn't take away from the fact that he *did* it. And they would have died undoing it, giving him a pyrrhic victory anyway, if he hadn't have saved them.
Kafka kinda won. He wanted to destroy the world and compromised on ruining it. Kuja *did* destroy a world, and existance besides.

These video game covers are imperfect. If only we could wipe away the impurities to make them as beautiful as this song.

Don't be afraid to use those bombastic drum sets, man. I missed them on Swords of Fury as well. Otherwise I really enjoy your music :)

I understand why people are complaining about the drums, but goddamn, just that intro alone, with the soft buildup and a parcial callback to the intro to Dark Messenger/Immoral melody makes this rendition many times better than the original theme. Go listen to it right now. It's just a series of arpeggios basically. It's beautiful and well written, but this is leagues above it.

I agree with the more umph... although the overall theme is haunting, which fits with the variations of the theme, the part with the drums lacked umph, and so lacked attention. The fact that you opened on the fall of Neo Kuja, you did an almost perfect job recreating that, so good work there.

I'll throw my hat in with the other comments that the forceful parts could use more oomph in the drums and maybe the piano could stand to be a bit more distinct. I also wanna say I adore the composition though; love the buildup and choir additions, really great stuff all around. I really like how creepy and unsettling the ending sounds too, perfect fit for the character.

I donno. This might be the first one from you that didn't meet my expectations. This definitely needs more umpf. The bass should be more robust.

It's very beautiful, and meticulously adorned with melodic extras, but sadly the beat's not giving me that "We will rock you" vibe.
Uematsu accentuated that feature in the song, it doesn't feel quite complete without it.

    @comments below:
Did you listen to this song with volume upppppp (heck, you definitely should turn the volume up for the ultimate epicness to assimilate your fragile human bones!!!11oneeleven) ? It definitely has lotsa umpf ;) And.. *points at the [Orchestral] in the title of the video* - more umpf would have destroyed the orchestral and choral flair. It fits in the original song, but not in this one. I friggin love it the way it is!
