Thanks for taking your time helping others!! I first time balled my field and all went ok, but heavy rains got my pyramid all wet, and expecting a few more rainy days. Did I lose my bales? Or should I spread them to dry? Not sure what to do.
That’s a tough one. I definitely wouldn’t cover them with moisture on them. Unless you could cover during rain events and uncover when it’s dry to air them out. No matter what, most of your quality loss should be limited to the outside wraps of the bale. Thanks
No it doesn’t. It’s lined up East/west and we get enough airflow thru the gaps I guess. There’s enough gap that my kids can crawl thru from one end to the other. Thanks
@@FiremanFarmer OH mine is for horses also. not sure if that matters but it is hot. I have a feeling the farmer baled when it rained :( I hope not though cuz I have a large order in.
stirlingfromla we mostly feed round bales. We put small square bales for some of our horse customers and for certain uses. I like to give the pigs some small bales good quality hay in the winter. Different stuff. But anyway I’ll use poorer quality round bales for bedding or roll it out in pasture that the cows can eat and trample to build organic matter.

wont it build up heat and moisture and then create mold in the bales?? I need to wrap mine but I feel like it needs more air flow? Please let me know

It’s just a silage cover. Stretches tight and just cut it off as used
How did it hold up through storms

Air flow is fine. Mine is on a gravel pad. The ground at times is wet from snow thaw or hard rain causing the bottom of the bale to be bad.
When you cut off a section in the winter, do you have to resecure the area left open?
No. It’s still tight on the sides all the way to the ground. It helps if you keep the plastic trimmed off so it’s not flapping in the wind. Thanks
Your hay got rained on so you are round bailing it versus rectangular bales. Could you please explain why you need to change?
