I totally understand what you mean about working all day, then working the evening too. It’s a life not many would choose to do, but you guys do it well. My wife and I love that life also, and do the best we can. God bless you all my friend.
Evan, I noticed you have a lot of loose hay and hay left over from cleaning the animal pens. I think if you got a good size chipper shredder you could run all that through it and increase your compost production by a bunch. Just a thought I realize you have a full plate all the time but in the long run it should be very beneficial 😉👍🇱🇷😊
Between the little tractor and the old waggon I'm not sure which piece was working harder. I used to live a couple of miles from Spruce Meadows equestrian centre and saw many diesel dually 1 tons that never had a load in the box, this is not the same thing at all. Way to work em hard Evan!
@Bowhunters Actually unless you live in a climate that does not freeze, water is a poor choice for tire ballast. 'Way back when' chlorine was used but had a tendency to ruin rims if it leaked. Sugar beet derivatives are now common being 30% heavier than water with a -40 freezing point. Also not nearly as corrosive and/or toxic to soil if it leaks. I still feel sorry for that poor little tractor though.
Nice to see you use the smaller version of the TYM tractor. Wonder what the max lifting capacity is. Sure handled those round bales easily. Glad to see you got all the hay undercover before rain shower. Interesting to see smaller tractor easily got the one feeder into the back of the barn. 👍👍👍
When I was a teenager so many years ago, we had a neighbor who put hay in his barn that was too damp. In the middle of the night his barn caught fire and burned to the ground along with a wagon and two tractors.
That is one job I miss cutting and raking hay at my grandparents I would cut it with a sickle mower and rake with a PTO driven rake I would rake the hay then some else would round bale it then we would load them up on a couple different trailers and haul them to the house but they didn’t have animals they sold the hay
Now that you guys have two tractors with frontloaders, a 2nd bale spear would be pretty handy. Have one tractor in the field to load bales with and the other at the shed to unload them. Would save you quite some time not to have to walk back and get the tractor to unload.
We use spread rock salt on every layer on bales we stack especially when in a barn salt draws moisture should be questioned but also makes cattel drink more when it's cold insure that they drink so not get bound up from eating only dry hay
Ya gotta watch those round bales ....sometimes they try and escape. My son in laws neighbors switched for square bales to the full sized round bales. It's pretty hilly here in Eastern Washington. One evening when they were baling on the side of a hill the wind picked up and sent one 2 tenths of a mile down hill through a neighbors vinyl fence and through a big picture window in a neighbors house.....Opps....hate it when that happens 😳
To cut down grass waste where there eating top the grass cows will just stand on high grass but if u use a topper or as ye say bush hog ul clean up where they graze
Hi Evan. You had some trouble with the baler. I just watched a cool video on 'Just a Few Acres Farm' channel explaining everything and anything about this kind of old balers. Might be usefull.
Enjoyable! Thank you for allowing us to watch you work like a dog on your "second job"! Just one question, did you get Rebekah's permission to use her tractor? Kidding of course. Murfreesboro Tn
I know how you feel about vacation. I had all of last week off including memorial day and made hay Saturday through Friday. Ours in western part of PA was lousy. great weather but the quantity was poor. ended up baling a couple fields we normally don't, just to end up with the same amount of hay.
Is there smoke from the Canadian wildfires in your area? Here in the Southerntier of New York State....air quality index is 200 ! The smell of smoke is heavy in the air. Smogville. Crazy.
Amazing video. Great to see the full even8ng of work. Quick question i have is have you thought abt getting a v rake. Man it makes raking hay so much faster

You seem to have a large percentage off female viewers. Perhaps one or two of them may have a son you could hire to help? You need someone in the wings to be there when you will inevitably get the flu, appendicitis, broken leg - or whatever lurks in the future. You videos are so informative and educational for this farmer wannabe.

“When you work a full time job, you come home and you get to do more work” haha Boy can I relate to that!
the work of a farmer is Never done even after you retire:)
That little TYM is quite the tractor. I hadn't considered them before, but I'll have to stop by my local supplier that has them.
I agree
Glad you were able to pick up the round bales and get the under cover. Now, go have dinner and put your feet up!!
It's the life you have chosen for yourself Evan, and you are very lucky to have it.
Work is never over for a farmer even when you sleep you are thinking of what you forgot to do but hard work pays off Even thanks for sharing
Sounds like a perfect vacation, doing what you enjoy is not working.
@ 12:28... That'd be a great pic for a new t-shirt... sun going down, tractor just unloading and the steer watching you
Thank you for sharing! Really enjoy!
The work you're doing is tiring but has to be gratifying at some level. Thanks for letting us get a glimpse of things there. :)
Yessir, there is always something to do. Looking good keep it up
Enjoy watching all the many tasks y’all have to do. ❤❤❤❤
Looks great Evan have a good day.
Better than watching TV.
You must enjoy what you are doing to work this hard. God bless and stay safe.
Hey Karen how are you doing and how is the weather conditions over there
Sorry for the trouble with the baler but having baling wire on hand is VERY useful!
Maybe you can fix tiers r a knowledgeable viewer will tell you how!

Hello Rebekah and Evan
Looks like some great hay that you got made. Alot of hard work but worth it in the end. Thanks for the video. All the best 🇬🇧.

Oh those forks on the top! I thought you were gonna fix that Lol.
Thx
first feeder you put out is really nice i've always used the round ones, sheep probably won't eat much hay as long as theres green grass

Seems to me pulling the wagon out with the loader tractor in the first place would be the way to do it.
Only one rung lower than Lucerne, (Alfalfa) is red clover, I always grew it for hay paddocks, Red clover was in every pasture mix I planted

I do the same here. Just no longer have a full time job off the place.
We used salt to draw out moisture. Something to think on.
Evan know that.
Pro Tip: When strapping something down, ALWAYS say, “that’s not going anywhere!” 😂
Hi Evan. You had some trouble with the baler. I just watched a cool video on 'Just a Few Acres Farm' channel explaining everything and anything about this kind of old balers. Might be usefull.
red clover is rich stuff be careful... its slow to dry for me too but they love it

LOL
Do you plan to sharpen or get new blades for the hay cutter. ink you will appreciate the clean cut
Put a wire panel in the bottom of the raised feeder and the sheep won't waste as much hay
We call them wase not feeder in Australia the bale testing around 12/14 % and test them twice a month so they don't get hot
Question: why don't u widen that roadway out. Just 1 row of trees would do it
Good idea for another little project. A bit of earthwork to reduce the slope as well.
You got a dryer in the haybarn ..😊😊

We’re did you get that hay moisture tester at??
Do you have a link for the moisture meter?
I've heard red clover isn't good for pregnant sheep. but ok for open ewes....
I’ve played enough farming simulator to know you should rachet strap your bales down to the trailer 😂
Never bothered with that, unless we put them on a truck to go down the road.
When is the firewood barn getting repaired you said this last winter
In due time, in due time. Jeez!
What name brand and where did u get your moisture reader
You answered my question before I asked… not enough pasture for your animals
👍
👍👍
So what ever happened to the Allis Chalmers?
What size tires are on your 24 horse tractor? Thanks
We’ve done the feeders and now just drop a bale. The cows tear up the feeders.

Can you sell the extra hay
He does and already said that’s why he does square bales.
The hay you put into the round feeder looked awfully dusty...hope it didn't mold sitting on the concrete.

Industrial maintenance- electrical type work.
I don’t understand why You’re gonna start feeding hay now with all that beautiful grass You have.
Was thinking the same, great question.
Because we don't have enough pasture. The land we will need to rest.

WHY DO YOU MAKE SQUARE AND ROUND BALES
WHY DO YOU TYPE IN CAPS?
Square bales fit in the racks for his goats, plus he said he sells some. Round bales - that baler works better and less manual labor in handling.
No need to shout David, we hear you.
@@AfterTheRains ITS OK, DONT FEAR THE CAPS

Just restock save round bales. It’s dry. You may not get another cutting and need hay
