I've been really enjoying Pro Mode and thanks to you wonderful people, Fluval reached out to thank me for my feedback. I gave some additional, so there's a chance we can directly influence the next update to the FluvalSmart App! Here is the link to screen shots of all the tested fluval curves and values: imgur.com/a/eE2BnFz
Bentley Pascoe thank you so much man. I recently upgraded my fish room to mostly planted 3.0 and aquaskies and I would have had no idea how to set these without your help. Literally a few months ago I just copied your settings and the results have been fantastic
@@BentleyPascoe amazing! thank you for actual tests and actual facts! my goal is to just pump colour out of lymnophilias and rotalas, so i'll be using steep sunrise
How would you switch to this if you're running a set up already. So for example if you're running light on your plants for profit tank mode auto setting. Do you just switch or do you slowly work up to it to avoid any algae or other issure
@@thantthein1949 working up slowly to give yourself more time with any unbalancing seems logical; although you can just jump ahead and deal with deficiencies/algae should you notice any. extra ferts or extra alage eating critters is usually the fix.
Hey everyone, I just wanted to say that it is unreal how much footwork/brainpower and trial and error Bentley and this video has saved me and all of you. For a guy who loves aquatic plants so much to go through all the settings and pay that much thought into this light is highly valuable. What the heck fluval? where you expecting and relying on a random RUclipsr to give us insight into this? providing a guide 1/2 as good as this would open the hobby up to just how amazing this light is. the store that sold me this light had no idea. Lighting should almost start here. Thanks Bentley! I programmed the "Day Sim" into my light and feel like I am getting every penny worth out of the function and capability of this light. couldn't say the same right off the bat if I would have tinkered for months on end otherwise!! :)
Seriously the best light video I've found since getting into the hobby 2 years ago. Thank you so much! What I think would add to this is explaining the different colors and what they do (blue, pink, warm white, cold white, white)
I've been having terrible algae problems since I got this light (about a year now), but I've been running the blue light on a higher setting. I didnt know that the blue light would promote algae growth, thanks for the tip!!
Hi Bentley, I have been following you for a long while and in particular, your studies and findings with the Fluval Pro settings. I am finally ready to adjust mine "Bentley style", using your Day Sim values. By the way, watching this video makes me smile because while you are discussing different light phases and patterns etc....the light in your room shifts as well (I have watched this numerous times). I agree with the many other folks who think that Fluval needs to implement a "Bentley setting" in the firmware! Thank you for the passion that you have - we all benefit greatly from it. :)
Thank you for taking the time to share your findings from your recent tests! My guess is the Fluval engineers chose sliders because they liked the real time feedback with the fixture. That's cool but I agree with you that being able to input numbers for the values is way more practical. Hopefully they'll include that feature with a later update.
Just two very honest words....... You're Awesome!!!!! I've only recently discovered your channel and I'm watching and learning all the time. You are my Guru.
I should have mentioned this yesterday. I could not control the times on the slide bar so I deleted most of them and having predetermined my times I added them back one at a time. When adding them back as you know you can set their time first. No more using the slide bar.🤗
Hi Bentley , I just got the Fluval NANO.. amazing bit of kit with no one showing the way except you. Thank you for all the details on each, going to try Day sim 1st.
I don't mind the sliders except they need to add an icon where you can click up or down one value at a time on the app screen along with the slider. then it would be perf!
Absolutely excellent presentation! Thank you so much. I'm going deeper into planted tanks and it's great to see all the great work you've done. The Fluval 3.0 is inbound and I'm doing my "youtube" homework :)
I have been having a day Sim setting close to your and can say growth had been amazing also the way the light shows of the colours of the fish. I love being able to a low blue light at night time so I am able to still enjoy the tank after I finish work. I definitely agree with changing the slide bars. Great work Bentley keep it up :)
Thank you so much. Ever since I bought my fluval fresh and plant I experimented with different settings and battled algae ever since. I'm going to try the first setting in the video and see if I have better results. It's people like you that make RUclips my go to place for information and knowledge.
Thank you! Just keep in mind that my settings are designed for 17"+ tall tanks, so if you're using something shorter like a 20 long, dial the settings back to 50-75% of what I present. I like starting at half power when first adjusting a tank, then slowly dialing it up as I make sure I'm not causing too much algae
@@BentleyPascoe My Tank is a 29 gallon tall and these light settings are bringing out the colors in my fish beautifully. I'll keep my eyes on the algae if any then adjust from there. Thanks again your videos rock.
@@IThinkNowListenUp intensity. You can also shorten the duration too, but usually intensity is where we're most likely to see algae issues with any given light
First week using your Day Sim Red Late program and it's like a whole new tank. Absolutely gorgeous, love that the length lets me have coffee with the fish and then see them again before bed. I had a siesta before that was keeping the algae away but stressing some of my more needy plants. A little extra fert and growth is booming and everything seems to be balancing. A genuine thank you for the time you invest in your content.
Thank you so much for posting this video and clearly explaining the pros/cons of each of the settings you chose. I just set up my Fluval 3.0 with Day Sim. My tank is java fern heavy and so I might try that steep sunset setting if I add a bunch of crypts since you got such nice results with those plants on that setting.
Hello, I'm watching your videos, I don't understand much English but I put the subtitles on hehe, I'm about to receive my fluval plant 3.0 for a 55 gallon aquarium, I'm seeing that some have problems with algae and I don't want to go through that, I hope I can put your configurations in my app, here I will continue learning from your videos, thanks and greetings from Mexico
Definitely agree on the slider bars, so effin' annoying! Plus, when you hit save, sometimes it doesn't save and you have start all over again. Really annoying!
Hi Bentley from the Uk, i have just bought 3.0 yesterday for my 140cm 310L newly planted aquarium, consisting of Anubias, Crypts, Bucephalandra and Echinodorus stems. I replaced 2 of those 165w chinese box led units ive had for years, marine style leds, which ive never really liked especially since going to planted. set it up last night copying you day spectrum but starting couple hours later & finish later, so it will be nice to see how that goes, i do fert half dose 15ml divide by 7 days with a few different all in ones ferts. i have had a few different algaes & deficiencies already, potassium & nitrogen i think, its just getting that balance right with ferts & lights combined. Anyway the 3.0 was very easy to set up. Thank you for your in depth reviews on light unit along with settings as you single handed sold me light and i pulled the trigger to buy. Thanks again mate.
You deserve a handout from Fluval. I don't own one but I think simular once , 2 juwel helialux, don't know if it's the same quality but different settings and intensity possible, To set a light perfect for your tank is the way you enjoy it the most, adjust your co2 and furts to that light and amount of plants. It's a difficult game to keep the " balance" and have all your plants alge free. Great hobby though.
Bentley thank you for all your work & time to share your knowledge of light settings for planted tanks. I have the 2.0 & 3.0 and in the settings of the 2.0, it only has 4 color spectrum settings. But I tried to get it as close as possible to your 3.0 5 color spectrum settings. I've looked on the web for any info for planted tanks light settings and you were the only one with specific settings to try at my discretion. It's all trial & error per user but at least it seems to be a knowledgeable start. Thank you once again!!!
Hey just wanted to comment, thank you. My tank had been struggling with plant death and algae blooms terribly for months. I bought this light hoping more control would help, but things got worse. I honestly felt like giving up. I took a gamble and just applied your suggested daylight settings, and now 3 weeks later my plants are exploding in growth. Even a few I thought were 100% dead are starting to come back. I am still struggling with algae, but if this plant growth stays the course, I believe they will outcompete the algae soon. So yeah, great advice and thank you for posting the detailed hour-by-hour settings. I wish it was possible to export/import settings from this light though, because manually sliding every single one is super annoying!
I think that your settings are right having spent time in the Far East and Borneo, Sunrise and Sunset are almost instant. This is how I have my tank set up with my new Fluval 3.0 great light and the scary part it will probably get even better if that's possible. Great show I always enjoy your content keep it up. Tugger Edinburgh Scotland
Thanks for the spectrums of light. I didn’t even know that Fluval had a pro mode until I ran into your video. Captivated and I’m subbing your channel. Question: I’m going to get the sim version set on my fluval; do you think it would improve my anubias to grow a bit quicker?
Bentley Pascoe Should I buy other plants to shade the anubias then? I’m also dealing with black beard algae and bought some Siamese algae eaters to combat the algae. Another concern is that I switched my light parameters to the sim, would it make the BBA grow as well?
Hi Bentley. Love your videos. I just bought the Fluval Flora 14G which it came with the light you are reviewing. I screen shotted your set suggestions as I may copy them. My question, I have a lowish to medium light requiring plants with no CO2, and usually on all my tanks I always have 2 settings on my timers to go off for a couple hours every day. Has been great with all my other tanks to prevent algae. BIG question with the Fluvalsmart app program, can that be done using the 10 setting mode (I think it can bit its confusing for my ageing brain). Do you ever turn your lights off during the day? I am an early riser so my tanks are all on by 06:15 am. Thanks ever so much for your input :) Cheers!
I personally don't turn lights off mid day, but for a schedule like yours you can. I have an Ultimate Guide series and the part 3 for pro mode covers a siesta example on how you can program this
Fluval, if you’re listening, we want a “Bentley setting.” Question: Java fern & S. Octopus in a 40B. Octopus growing like a weed, fine wiry hair algae grows even faster, Java fern gasping and throwing dead leaves. Stopped doing easy green 6 weeks ago and cut lighting to under 50% for 9 hours on 45 degree curve to stop hair algae farm. It has helped, but still a lot) 20 white clouds, 6 hill stream loaches. 72 degree temp. Aqua clear 500. Now my question; what should my next step be? I love the adjustability of these lights, but only because your teaching me how to use it.
Naturally remove as much as you can by hand. You can try using some small amounts of liquid carbon to inhibit the algae for a bit to stabilize, but the best overall option would be injected CO2. The next thing I would look to is how much you're feeding - if daily, go to every other day for a week or two and see how that does. You could have an excess of phospates in the tank helping the algae capitalize and keep its growth high.
Bentley Pascoe I was just doing water changes and got real up close to the tank (it’s on the lower rack) and low and behold... different generations of Hillstream loaches!! (Sewellia) I think I will leave everything as is for the moment-what’s a little hair algae compared to loach fry!! Thank you for the tips though!
@@catfishcave379 hey! Just came across this! Congrats - I could NOT agree more about hillie fry > algae. My "tank of shame" aka my hillstream tank is loaded with green string algae and weeping moss gone wild - I do not clean the sides either as I have reticulated and some neon blue gobies and a couple of medusa loaches in there; all of them enjoy the algae on the glass. I was just about to prune it all out and change things up when I too saw wee hillies moving about. Needless to say, the shame has changed to - "I am not touching a thing so long as my sewellia are breeding" and so the wild green algae and moss growth in there remains as is - LOL. Hope all remains well in your tank!
Great video and I appreciate all the studies you have performed on this fantastic light. For your Day Sim Red Late setting, what hours (if any) are you running CO2 or would you recommend running CO2?
Just bought this light and just want to say thanks for all the tips. All options was a bit overwhelming so these videos were a nice primer. I'm going to give the 'Day Sim' a shot. I don't run CO2 but will keep an eye on the algae. I just added a bunch of egeria densa so hopefully they'll help keep it at bay.
Hi, great video.....I have the flu all 2.0. So it does not have all the same colours......it has green and white. I want to use your day sim program but I am not quite sure how to adapt it to suit.......
I am new to aquascapping and your video is so very helpful in helping to adjust my fluval 3.0. Have been using the presets only and growth is good. Will try your presets for longer sunset to enhance the colours. How long before you see some results? Thanks so much for your diligent work on the settings. Super!
Hey Bentley thanks for the tips! I have been getting algae growth with this light. But I had the blue turned up to the same level as everything else! After seeing your video I’ve lowered it right down.
Awesome information! I am currently using the Fluval 3.0 on a 36 gallon bowfront. 21" height. Plants that I have are, Hygrophila Polysperma, Hygrophila Rosanervig, Italian Val, Bacopa Caroliniana, Dwarf Ambulia, Alternanthera Reineckii, Anubias Coffeefolia, Amazon Sword, and some Dwarf hairgrass in the foreground. I have been using the Planted tank setting for a while and have not been noticing any positive results. I used a cheap Top Fin Led hood light before with no problems but since I have switched, alot of the leaves on my plants seem to be turning a brown color and I am starting to see signs of bba on some of the plants and some other sort of algae beginning to grow on the glass. I am currently not running any C02 though I am hoping to get a system very soon. What settings would you recommend that I use and how long of a period should I keep the light on for? Thanks again man!
When switching lights, we can often find issues from a difference in light. Even if the two lights look like they have similar brightness visibly, it can be a singular color spectrum that then causes a problem. My guess is, with the basic planted setting, you're encountering too much blue light, especially since you mentioned the BBA. You might try my even curve or day sim pro mode settings. This will cut a bunch of the blue out and should help you get things back in order
Just bought this light and I'm instantly in love, the only thing I don't like is there wasn't enough presets for initial users! Thanks to this video I'll be switching to day sim! But by chance you wouldn't have made a clone of the finnex 24/7 color transitions have you? I love watching the tank in the morning and night and would love having a 24/7 clone for the fluval 3.0!
Awesome content! I've been using your day Sim setting on my 55 gallon tank which is in a very dark room and I'm getting a lot of algae growth and I was wondering if there is something I can do to the setting to reduce the algae growth? Thanks!😊
I would first look at shortening the duration of light or lower maximum brightness (don't do both). If you have lower demand plants, it could be too long of an exposure period or too much light intensity.
@@BentleyPascoe I understand you have great results, but isn't 13 hours of light and co2 too much? I alot of articles I've read say 7-9 hours. I'm having hair alage issues so don't want add any more.
@@laurit3116 when you balance things correctly no, if you're having issues, resolve them first. When plants out compete algae, you can run longer with no issue
I would start with the automatic mode, do 1.5 hour long sunrise and sunset. For day, 6 hours long to start, all whites and pink/red at 100, blue at 10.
Diatoms aren't necessarily connected to a specific spectrum of light. Usually it's when we have excess phosphates that we start seeing more and more diatoms but if there is a large increase in overall light so typically we associate this with stronger more powerful lights then that can cause a sudden change. So my question would be has there been a big increase in light power compared to the previous light. If so then I would dim it down a little bit and slowly bring it up over time
Awesome video Bentley! I currently have 3 Fluval lights because of the "pro mode" capabilities that Fluval introduced. Of course I am a little bias because the Fluval 3.0 was one of my first lights on a 55, before the upgrade. My settings currently mimic a summer day (starting at 7 am) with a build up at noon and a wind down starting at 3:30. My struggle has been the varying tank depths in use (a 10, a 29, and the 55, all on CO2). My blue has never been above 7 as I agree about the promotion of algae, but my cool blue has always been around 50% of my highs. I find it interesting that you have set it much higher. You made an interesting observation about the differences in stem versus basal plants....and that makes so much sense...kudos to you sir! So, I've set my 55 on your SIM schedule and see how that goes. Bottom line, I find that you can't go wrong with these lights and just love the capabilities, you can really dial it in.
Hello I dont know if you mentioned it in the video already, but would you say it's fine to use daytime setting for a newly planted aquarium, or would you do some changes to it? Im using your daytime profile right now. Thanks for sharing profiles. :)
All of my settings are shown with full values in the previous video, there is also an imgur link in the description of this video to screen shots of my values.
@@BentleyPascoe just got this light last week and have tried out Day sim, I previously had terrible algae but ever since I’ve used this it’s been dying off! Now just to get this Monte Carlo to spread around...
Ok... So I have watched this specific vid now 5 times. Bug question what do you think about using different ones through out the year? You mentioned the 3 favorite. I'm currently using Daysim. Curious if I used your other 2 you have tagged as "Fall" and "Summer". If I actually used those for some durations at those times if year. To provide a variation? Would this have any positive effects?
I suppose you could try to replicate seasonal weather, but this could lead to plants hitting dormant periods. I personally have just kept a setting all year and haven't gone quite that detailed
@@BentleyPascoe Thank you for the input! I was using the standard sunrise and sunset option on the Auto mode. And I think it led to a big algea bloom. Possible due to the high levels of blue?
@@BentleyPascoe Thsnk you for all your info and help! I have been binge watching some of your old lives lol. Great info! As I suspected like chameleon keeping there is a ton of bad info out there regarding Fish keeping...
Just bought this light for a 75 gal .I'm putting together what setting to you Recommend for a new tank with newly planted plants that really didn't root yet .
Sorry for the late reply! I would start with an automatic setting, all whites at 50%, pink at 40, blue at 5, 1 hour sunrise, 1 hour sunset, 6 hours of your "daylight period". Do this for a couple weeks or until you see obvious new growth from several of your plants. Then start slowly increasing power, say by 15% to whites and pink. Watch for algae and as long as you don't see an algae out break in two weeks, increase again. Repeat until you're at 100% whites, 90% pink, blue at 5% still if heavily planted. If lightly planted, 80% white, 70% pink, 5% blue.
Would love to see what your doing for C02. And if you think I would need C02? Been getting different opinions. New to fish keeping. I have kept Chameleons for many years. Gotta be honest love this new hobby.
Thanks much for the video and testing these out. Do you have a resource for where you have researched the light spectrum throughout the day, specific to each color? Using the app on an iPad helps greatly with the adjustments you spoke of. The app utilizes the entire screen, which is obviously multiple times larger than a phone.
A little late to the update, BUT I LOVE IT. The only thing I could ask for is the ability to switch between 12hr/24hr time formats. 24 hour confuses me lol
Hi Bentley Many thanks for the great work, I have a low tech planted 32.5 gal fluval flex with Aquaskey 2.0, mainly Annubias, Crypts, Swords, Rotala, Littorellas, helanthiums, with light fish load, using Flourish weekly I tried to replicate the Day Sim and I’m in love with it, Do you think algea will be a problem down the road? Being a low tech? Im still recovering from cycle induced diatoms Thanks again
Bentley Pascoe great thanks! One more thing, what should I do with the green light? It looks better when I reduce it close to zero but will it affect the photosynthesis? I know that red and blue are most important.
Thanks for the detailed information. I have been running these settings for about a month while continuing to dose with ferts and liquid carbon and am seeing big blooms of algae: Stag-horn, Black Beard, and Hair. I suspect it may be too much light for a 15" deep tank and that I should lower the percentages the hours or both to some degree. Do you have any suggestions for how I should alter the settings?
I would certainly pull the percentage down, keep in mind a 15" tank isn't 15" to the substrate. I would drop everything by 25% of its value and start there.
Thank you for this . I bought 2 4 foot versions for my 6x4x2 tank and applied your pro settings. Just wondering if there is any more twerking for pro setting you want to share as it's been 8 months since this video?
@Bentley Pascoe I know this is a year old post but I am just now getting into the hobby and your Fluval Light settings have been extremely helpful. I have question for you about high light settings (with CO2) for a tank with lots of red plants that need high light. Would this profile still work?
Just updated and started Day Sim on my 40B today. I've been dealing with algae in my planted tank for a while now even with CO2 dialed in. I had the Finnex 24/7 + CC before and never had algae and the settings on Finnex were similar to the Day Sim setting Bentley created. I can't wait to see how this turns out.
Bentley, thank you for your great RUclips channel. I've learned a lot from your informative videos. I have a question regarding what settings you would recommend for a 75-gallon planted tank with CO2 injection and two Fluvial 3.0 lights. I have a very large piece of driftwood in the center that almost spans the length of the tank with a couple of Anubias and moss balls attached to the driftwood. The rest of the plants are planted in the substrate in front of and behind the driftwood. I'm currently running the Pro Mode settings you provided in this video in both lights.
Bentley Pascoe, Thank you very much. I really appreciate your thoughts and advice. I just added the second Fluval 3.0 a couple of days ago, so I’ll definitely monitor my tank to ensure that the dual 3.0s don’t encourage a lot of algae growth. Thanks again and stay safe!
Late to the game but thanks for this video! Question, how did you get your graph to display the time in 2 hour increments? Mine displays the time in 6 hour increments and that's just too wide. Thanks
@@BentleyPascoe I've checked everywhere in the app I can think of and there's no setting for it I can find. I've contacted Fluval to see if they have any input.
Great stuff! I'm giving Day Sim a whirl as of today. If you had two Fluvals on the same aquarium would you expect that the front LED would have different settings than the back LED to account for plants in the back being taller than those in the front?
For tanks I've used multiple lights on I've always kept the same settings. I do that more for simplicity, but if you got everything well balanced having a setting for foreground/midground and the a background setting could make sense.
Hello moving my goldfish to a 54 corner tank and just got this light. I would like to do a planted tank with my goldfish and not sure what settings to begin with
Try the shallow settings in auto mode to begin. If you aren't seeing algae issues after 2 weeks, increase the whites and pink by 10%, monitor for two more weeks then tinker from there if needed.
Bentley I believe you have the best helpful aquatic RUclips channel hands down. I’m updating my lighting to the Fluval 3.0 because of your three part videos on the Fluval 3.0. These are going on my 120 gal planted aquarium. The 2 Fluval 3.0 36-48 /48watt will be replacing 2 - Finnex 24/7 planted plus lights. I will have a total of 6 lights the new fluval 3.0 along with some older lighting 2 -36 inch beamswork led and 2- 36inch 30 watt fluorescents with zoo med flora sun. What do you think? I’m repurposing the Finnex and putting them on my 40gal setup that I discussed with you about mixing the eco complete and the Fluval stratum together for my substrate. On my 120gal I will be using your Day sim red late as the light values. I’m thinking should i stager the start and off for the beamswork and fluorescent?would have them come at 12:00 and off at 15:00 my 120gal is 24” deep. Would I need a longer mid day because of my tank depth? Please help.
I've personally not done any vivariums, so I'm not accustomed to their lighting requirements, I would guess you can adopt a pretty high intensity profile as there's less algae risk.
Looking for a little help. I have the Fluval Planted 3.0 in pro mode at settings similar to what Bentley showed as his daylight setting. I have 2 problems and am not sure the best way to tweak the color settings/intensities. First problem is discus seem nervous under the light. I think this may be due to intensity. Secondly I have an small algae problem as it is growing on some of the plant leaves and moss. I have Java fern Java moss Christmas moss and Anubis’s in the tank. It is a 125 gal with 2 36” lights. Ramps up for 1.5 hour to full 100% warm white, white and cool white, 85% pink and 5% blue for 6 hours then ramps down 1.5 hours. Any advice as to intensity and/or color changes would be appreciated
I would start by bringing all the whites down to 75%, pink to 65% and monitor for two weeks. Are the discus more calm? Is the algae growing slower? If yes, stick to this setting for two more weeks and keep monitoring. If no, drop another 10% on the whites and pink. Monitor for two more weeks and see where you're at.
Hey Bentley! Thanks for the thorough videos. It has helped me a lot as I am a new to aqua plants. One quick question. I have a 40 breeder tank with a bunch of dwarf sag as a back ground plant. I want the sag to grow almost to the surface by using your "day sim red late" setting. I'm thinking about just doing half of everything throughout the lightcycle with "maybe" a quarter of what you have with the cool white. My understanding is I want a lower light setting especially cool white to make the sag grow up. Is this correct about cool white, thoughts overall? Thanks in advance!
You hit the nail on the head. Lower light is what we want to get a plant reaching up for more light. I think you're initial guess should be good, just be patient and monitor, if it's growing too fast to that height, we'll want to dial up, not growing at all, dial down a little more. Cheers!
Hey Benltley, good video, however I’m still confused. I got my new Fluval plant 3.0 two days ago… still I can’t find a way to load preset profiles like “Lake Malawi”, “Planted” or my own. How can I do that? How can I load, test and compare different saved profiles? I can’t find an option for that in the app. Thanks!
That's in the import function, you should find it there. Select your light. Then in the bottom row you should see something that says import. It might also be export. Select that and then you should be able to bring in like the like Malawi setting or the types of setting or a different custom setting if you've saved one from a different light.
@@BentleyPascoe Correct!, I did that and it worked. The thing is that the word “Export” is confusing in the context of the app, probably the developer should clarify that function. I’m still playing with the light and I wish it could have more than 10 set points in pro mode, for a more flexible and fun setting during a 24h period. Thank you!
I have a 150 gallon tank with anubias and java fern. My plants are not looking as good as they should. What light setting do you recommend and can I email you to ask more in depth questions?
Hi Bentley, decided to give your Day Sim settings a go. I've had terrible luck growing much in my 200l community tank, even so called easy plants. I'm dosing easy carbo daily and seachem flourish 2x a week. I'm also doing 50% water changes weekly, using seachem prime as a conditioner, and my tank temperature is set at 24c. Do you see any issues with my settings or should I just stick with it?. Thanks in advance
I would slowly ween away from using liquid carbon. There's evidence liquid carbon inhibits plant growth as much as algae in prolonged usage. Using regular flourish (not Excel) is good, but try adding flourish advance as well, you might have some nutrient imbalance happening.
Bentley, i have fluval led 46w in juwel rio 350, wondering if that is sufficient for low to medium plant light requirement? I am a bit confused with all lumen to liter (not to mention PAR) calculation for lightning!
Do you know if co2 is required if I copy ur time and light? I have fluval stratum substrate and fluval 3.0 lighting but no co2, I took ur advice and lowered my light to 30% for a few weeks and it really stopped algae growth and hair algae is gone but now I wanna ramp it up to give my plants time to grow but at the same time not let algae grow back : I also keep my nitrates under 20ppm and do water changes constantly until I know the mostly nitrates that are in are only from easy green fert
How have you adjusted your co2 times to match the 3.0? Are you starting closer to peak time and shutting down after? Or are you steadily running through out?
Hello I have a 75 gallon iv had this light for a few months and I’m just struggling with algae bloom can somebody give me the settings they use that work and for how long please ?
depends on the tank size, if it's a taller tank (18-24" from water surface to substrate - then I would do 3% blue, 100% bright white, 90% cool white, 90% warm white, 75% pink. If you want a little more cool light and less yellow/red color highlights, then shift to 50% pink, 60% warm white.
Great thank you my settings only shows just the green white blue and red in my auto settings so I will see if there is different colors in the pro. Again thank you
Dear Bentley, thanks for your good and informative videos. I also have the plant 3.0 from Fluval and I am stuck with the settings. I did set blue light to 20 percent because of the algae and I have seen your settings on imggur. I have an aquarium with a lot of red plants with angelfish and the plants grow quickly on the surface. Which settings do you recommend for my aquarium. thank you, greetings from the netherlands
Will the day sim settings have good light penetration for a oddly shaped aquarium that is 30x13x24 with 3" of substrate growing mostly anubias sagittaria grass, crypts, and some Christmas moss no co2
Hi Bentley, I have a 5 foot topical tank that is 1 foot 3 inches tall and 1 foot 2 inches deep. I have been running your day sim light settings on my 3.0 plant light for 2 months with pressurised co2 and seachem flourish fertilizers . However I have a real problem with spot algae. Determined to keep the duration of the light and co2 the same, I looked into my phosphates, which do appear to be next to nonexistent. I'm sure the cause of my algae is due to the light intensity and duration and not the low phosphates and was wondering if you agreed? If so what intensity and durations would you recommend for such a uniquely sized tank. Any help will be greatly appreciated, Many thanks Joe.
I think you're looking at light issues yes. Usually, I attack light duration first, as I do tend to run my lights long. But if we want the same duration, then I would look to reduce all settings to 3/4 what they are now. So at the high point when whites are at 100, have them top at 75 instead. Clean the glass the best you can and monitor for two weeks. If it goes away, we've found our culprit and solution.
I've been really enjoying Pro Mode and thanks to you wonderful people, Fluval reached out to thank me for my feedback. I gave some additional, so there's a chance we can directly influence the next update to the FluvalSmart App!

Thank you so much, glad that my setting is giving you great results like I am seeing! Stay awesome!
Your videos are the most informative when it comes to this light. Can't wait to see what is in store.
Yeah bait. Nobody even comes close. Any other good ones are in spanish.
I did not know that either. 😳
Just bought 2 of these for my 65 gallon. Can't wait to try these settings to get my reds to flourish
@@BentleyPascoe when you say dial it back, are you saying to dial back intensity or duration?
@@IThinkNowListenUp intensity. You can also shorten the duration too, but usually intensity is where we're most likely to see algae issues with any given light
First week using your Day Sim Red Late program and it's like a whole new tank. Absolutely gorgeous, love that the length lets me have coffee with the fish and then see them again before bed. I had a siesta before that was keeping the algae away but stressing some of my more needy plants. A little extra fert and growth is booming and everything seems to be balancing. A genuine thank you for the time you invest in your content.
Glad you're enjoying it! I'd love to hear more as you keep running it
Can you share your final settings if you don't mind? Thanks!
My day sim is the final setting I personally use, but keep in mind it may need tinkering for your specific tank.
Thank you for this video! New to the hobby and your video made it easy to determine what settings would be best for me. Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much for doing all of this! This was a huge help for me with setting up my lighting, I can’t thank you enough!
I agree about setting it. It’s an absolute pain to get it exactly where I want it with the sliders.
Just got my Fluval 3.0 delivered today! Plugging in your Day Sim settings to try out first. Thanks for the very informative video!
Thanks! I’m trying your daysim settings!
I juz got this awesome light today, your video is so useful for me!!Cant wait to monitor the results
Nice experiment Bentley. Thank you.
Glad you're seeing positive results!
Thank you for this! I'm trying out your day sim late red for a terrarium I've got a nano on.
Top notch research and presentation from a 35 year aquarist and aquascaper. Positive feedback, why not try doing this for a low maintenance tank?
My ultimate guide has settings more suited to low maintenance
I think that your settings are right having spent time in the Far East and Borneo, Sunrise and Sunset are almost instant. This is how I have my tank set up with my new Fluval 3.0 great light and the scary part it will probably get even better if that's possible. Great show I always enjoy your content keep it up.

Thanks for the spectrums of light. I didn’t even know that Fluval had a pro mode until I ran into your video. Captivated and I’m subbing your channel. Question: I’m going to get the sim version set on my fluval; do you think it would improve my anubias to grow a bit quicker?
Anubias actually grow best slightly shaded. So make sure you aren't exposing them to too much light.
I have an Ultimate Guide series and the part 3 for pro mode covers a siesta example on how you can program this
@@BentleyPascoe Thanks for the conversation and advice. Blessings to you.
Fluval, if you’re listening, we want a “Bentley setting.”
Question: Java fern & S.
Sticking to auto mode for my Dry start & I can’t wait to utilize pro mode.
Fantastic and informative video, thanks Bentley, please keep us updated on your results. 👍🏼
Great video and I appreciate all the studies you have performed on this fantastic light. For your Day Sim Red Late setting, what hours (if any) are you running CO2 or would you recommend running CO2?
I start CO2, on the tanks which are using it, 30 minutes before ramp up and turn it off 1 hour before light goes off
Thank you for your efforts to test and understand these fantastic lights.😍
Just bought this light and just want to say thanks for all the tips. All options was a bit overwhelming so these videos were a nice primer. I'm going to give the 'Day Sim' a shot. I don't run CO2 but will keep an eye on the algae. I just added a bunch of egeria densa so hopefully they'll help keep it at bay.
I just out out a new ultimate guide for the light in three parts, check that out as I have some optional settings that might suit your needs!

Super!
It depends on the plant choice and CO2 injection or not. With CO2 a couple weeks, without a month or so

Thank you for your videos! I'm new to this and I just got this light. What would you recommend for a deep fish tank 30 inches deep, no co2 ?
I would start with the automatic mode, do 1.5 hour long sunrise and sunset. For day, 6 hours long to start, all whites and pink/red at 100, blue at 10.
Thank you!
Hi Bentley can you help?
what colour light to avoid as have been getting a lot of Diatoms since using this light
Many thanks from the uk
Thanks, super helpful.
Hello I dont know if you mentioned it in the video already, but would you say it's fine to use daytime setting for a newly planted aquarium, or would you do some changes to it?
Im using your daytime profile right now. Thanks for sharing profiles. :)
I tend to start fresh tanks a little dimmer to minimize algae then steadily work my way up. It depends on the plants being used

Co2 isn't necessary for most plants, I only use co2 in 4 tanks.
@@BentleyPascoe Thank you!
at what time do you turn on your C02 and what time do you turn it off based on your day sym setting?
Co2 on 30m before sunrise, off when sunset starts
Thanks much for the video and testing these out. Do you have a resource for where you have researched the light spectrum throughout the day, specific to each color?
Using the app on an iPad helps greatly with the adjustments you spoke of. The app utilizes the entire screen, which is obviously multiple times larger than a phone.
Most of my settings come from some discussions with a friend who is a marine biologist that did a lot of light spectrum research.
A little late to the update, BUT I LOVE IT. The only thing I could ask for is the ability to switch between 12hr/24hr time formats. 24 hour confuses me lol

Hi Bentley
Many thanks for the great work,
I have a low tech planted 32.5 gal fluval flex with Aquaskey 2.0, mainly Annubias, Crypts, Swords, Rotala, Littorellas, helanthiums, with light fish load, using Flourish weekly
I tried to replicate the Day Sim and I’m in love with it,
Do you think algea will be a problem down the road? Being a low tech? Im still recovering from cycle induced diatoms
Thanks again
You might want to pull the intensity down some, ex: where I max at 100%, you might try 75% as the tank is not as tall as what I use.
Bentley Pascoe great thanks!
One more thing, what should I do with the green light? It looks better when I reduce it close to zero but will it affect the photosynthesis? I know that red and blue are most important.
@@waleedjanabi939 I would try around 15% green
Thanks for the detailed information. I have been running these settings for about a month while continuing to dose with ferts and liquid carbon and am seeing big blooms of algae: Stag-horn, Black Beard, and Hair. I suspect it may be too much light for a 15" deep tank and that I should lower the percentages the hours or both to some degree. Do you have any suggestions for how I should alter the settings?
I would certainly pull the percentage down, keep in mind a 15" tank isn't 15" to the substrate. I would drop everything by 25% of its value and start there.
@@BentleyPascoe Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
Thank you for this . I bought 2 4 foot versions for my 6x4x2 tank and applied your pro settings. Just wondering if there is any more twerking for pro setting you want to share as it's been 8 months since this video?

Yes you can

@Bentley Pascoe I know this is a year old post but I am just now getting into the hobby and your Fluval Light settings have been extremely helpful. I have question for you about high light settings (with CO2) for a tank with lots of red plants that need high light. Would this profile still work?
I used it on several CO2 tanks
I used the day sim when I set up my forty breeder dirted tank two months ago. No algae ever.
As long as you're seeing good growth and color and not encountering a lot of algae, Day Sim is probably your best bet. Cheers!
Thanks

I would agree to stagger the start, honestly all your inklings here are great, trust your gut!
Bentley Pascoe maybe have the beamswork on at 11:00 and off at 14:00 and fluorescent on at 13:00 and off at 15:00 or what do you think?
do you reccommend a co2 On/ Off schedule with this light schedule?
If you want some yes you can, I would turn it on as sunrise begins, then off as sunset starts
@@BentleyPascoe Thanks for quick response.
Iam getting the 48inch for my 60inch 120gal... I really hope this works for blackwater.. I can share pics if you ever wanna see it
Would love to see it!
Do you have a pro mode you suggest for a planted bioactive Vivarium? I have a ton of terrestrial live plants and want to fine tune the settings.
I've personally not done any vivariums, so I'm not accustomed to their lighting requirements, I would guess you can adopt a pretty high intensity profile as there's less algae risk.
Great informative video btw. The new update reminds me of Finnex's 24/7 configuration. It's like if Finnex 24/7 and Fluval app had a baby.
@@BentleyPascoe thank you very much
Hey Bentley!
Cheers!
@@BentleyPascoe thank you! RUclipsrs like you that take time to respond to all of your comments are the best.
@@Opeth614 I do what I can - thanks for watching and the kind words - stay awesome!
Thank you!
Do I need to reduce by any % in case my aquarium is smaller?

Use the shallow day sim in my ultimate guide part 3 for no co2, should do you pretty well
Do you have a setup for algae control for an african chiclid tank? Any way to export it? Thanks!!!
I don't sorry, but I would try just the whites at 65% for a 18" or taller tank.
How have you adjusted your co2 times to match the 3.0? Are you starting closer to peak time and shutting down after? Or are you steadily running through out?
Steady run throughout because I do a lower co2 concentration, if I were pushing more co2, I would change it up.
Hello I have a 75 gallon iv had this light for a few months and I’m just struggling with algae bloom can somebody give me the settings they use that work and for how long please ?
Hello boss What setting will you use for black sand cichlids with black background no plants
depends on the tank size, if it's a taller tank (18-24" from water surface to substrate - then I would do 3% blue, 100% bright white, 90% cool white, 90% warm white, 75% pink. If you want a little more cool light and less yellow/red color highlights, then shift to 50% pink, 60% warm white.
Great thank you my settings only shows just the green white blue and red in my auto settings so I will see if there is different colors in the pro. Again thank you
Dear Bentley,
thanks for your good and informative videos.
My day sim has been working very well in reds in my plants for profit tank
Thank you very much, i thought the light was only to be active for Max 8 hours?
Will the day sim settings have good light penetration for a oddly shaped aquarium that is 30x13x24 with 3" of substrate growing mostly anubias sagittaria grass, crypts, and some Christmas moss no co2
Should be fine, this does well in my guppy mansion which is 60x21x24 (l x w x h)
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Many thanks Joe.
@@BentleyPascoe sounds good, thank you very much 👍
