@M to most Australian kids in the 80s and 90s, those 4 names that you listed were 4 nobodies. Ablett, Dunstall, Lockett, Carey etc. were all very prominent household names to the average Aussie in those times.
"Pele, Cruyff, Maradona and Best? Who are they?" - any Australian in the 80s and 90s

I can recall many a freezing saturday arvo out at arctic park, often getting to say gday to the players as they went in the same gates as the fans, running out on the ground when the tonne was kicked, grabbing some of the banner that would be dumped in the carpark and jumping on the Ventura bus after a four n twenty each qtr break to keep warm, arriving home in time for sport on the news and to check the coleman ladder and the race to 100 between the chief, plugger, sumich, god and horse. JD was a gun, always played the ball and not the man and was unselfish to a tee. Fantastic player, thanks for the memories.

steve baggio when you put it that way, that was a magnificent era for full forwards. Don't forget some of the lesser lights of the time such as Modra, Longmire, and Salmon. A great time to be a footy fan

Still haunted by the 17 he kicked against Richmond but in the end I was cheering him on to break the record absolute champion on and off the field
