***** nice review, I have a question I'm planning on getting one Macbook Pro 2nd Generation this is the specs: Intel core 5 @2.5 GHz, Intel HD Graphics 4000, 500 GB HDD, 4 GB memory Ram upgradable to 8 GB. OS 10.8 Lion. $999.00 is in promotion, this would be my first Mac. now in your personal experience with Macbooks how do you recommend it??? I hope you can help me thank you.
Jay Redondo The computer you are looking at is the Mid 2012 MacBook Pro. It is really a terrible buy. If you are looking at Apple laptops in the 1000$ Price range you are much better of with the MacBook Air

+charbel saad Well to be fair I only found his channel only a few weeks ago in the top 5 results ... I typically look up the top 5 reviews and base an opinion after those.
+charbel saad Look how fast his subscribtionnumber is rising though! Just since your 2 month old comment, he's gotten almost 50k more. I'm guessing that he'll be having at least .5 million before the end of the year

Excellent choice! I’m not an Apple person-though my family has their fair share of iPhones-but the MBP 13-inch, 2015, is still one of the best laptops Apple has made. The trackpad is very versatile, the screen is excellent, and the build quality is near-unmatched. Did I talk about the keyboard yet? I was thinking of buying a 2018 MBA but the Butterfly keyboard is really putting me off...got a Pixelbook instead...scissor switches, good old reliable!
Have enjoyed quite a few of your reviews now and after this one have decided to sub. Really informative and balanced, and presented in a nice, understated but still enjoyable way. There are many tech reviewers out there who go so over the top it can be quite hard to watch their reviews. Also going from 2k subs last March to about 120k now, essentially a year, I think is testament to the quality of your stuff. Good job man!
I'm somewhat of a "keyboard nerd," and I've been using high end mechanical keyboards all my life. But I also like the butterfly switches after I've gotten used to it, so try it, if you haven't already.
This video made me buy the 2015 mbp 13 for college......almost 7 yrs later and I'm still watching this on my 2015 mbp 13, but now I'm waiting for my new mbp 14 haha. I despise those butterfly keyboards lmao
Subscribed. Finally a decent reviewer who doesn't spend the bulk of his intro showing all of the packaging, busting out his superfancy Damascus steel pocket knife and "setting aside the laptop for now to see what else is in the box first" which always manages to piss me off. Also, you explain things in a calm manner and to the point. Good job man.
I am currently using a lenovo y50 for school use (Web design and programming) I honesty was a mac hater but now my y50 (4 months old) that had already been send back to the factory for repairing is showing bad signs again so I finally started doing research on macbooks I mean most of my classmates and all teachers use macbooks.... And your review really helped me! I really think I'll buy this one ;)
+Wendy Ettema (MsWendySan) Hey Wendy Im havnig the same problem as you (brand new Y50 being sent to the factory) and im considering a macbook pro have you made the change? I would be happy if you can contact me
Aviv Kaplan Hi, yes I did make the change and I'm very happy with my Macbook Pro, I do miss the gaming on the go but well the laptop was meant for college so maybe it's better that way ;) The OS is some getting used to but I got my mac for 1,5 week now and I think I got the hang of it. I do like the portability very much, it's way lighter than my y50 was... so I'd recommend going for the MacBook
I am not shure because we mainly used brackets for coding and programming and a lot of indesign and photoshop. For these programs my macbook is doing great.
Just bought a refurb 2015 13” Retina MBP, checked out this vintage review to see young Dave 2D’s thoughts on it, chuckled at the bit at the end when he said he almost had 2k subs. You’ve hit the big time now, kid!
If someone who isn't subscribed would watch this, he/she would think this guy is a professional youtuber with a lot of subs. What would they think when he said he had almost 2000 subs?
I bought it in June 2016 and going smooth so far :D still getting around 8 hrs usage on web browsing and youtube videos. Around 7 hours on 1080p movie playing. 9 hours usage on light office work. battery cycles 350 , 92% health. This is by far best ever macbook pro model in my view.
I'm watching this video for the first time 6 and a half years later in 2021, because I'm getting one of these as a cheap kids' computer. Wow, you had less than 2000 subs at that time! And now you have almost 3.5 million subs. It's amazing what can happen after a few short years.
My grandfather is giving me his 2015 MacBook Pro for school. I’ve used it before and it’s really good and fast, If you’re on a budget and want to get a MacBook Air or pro, get a refurbished MacBook Pro 2015 off amazon or eBay
I was looking around youtube for laptop reviews, and I ended up watching all your videos. haha. You're reviews are awesome and is helping me out alot. Thanks Dave, and keep it up! :D

You deserve way more subscribers than you have and I will tell my friends about your channel, just thought I would say that cause you deserve it man!
Brandon Eversmann thanks. I already got it with 13 battery cycle. With transparent case and rubber keyboard cover and already have screen film cover. I think i got a good deal. :) looks new
***** (or anyone) i'm thinking of buying a macbook pro probably going to be a 13 inch (2.9ghz cpu 512gb storage 8gb ram) Do u suggest buying it now or wait for another year (see if apple will put in anything different like usb c) or just getting some other laptops? i have a 5 years old pc that is still working ok, but i need something for travelling, i sometimes do a little video editing for fun and some light gaming like minecraft or lol~ ultimate question is it the "right time" to get it now? and should i get a macbook pro?
If you need a laptop now, this is a great option. Apple will release something new every year and if you always wait to see what is new next year you will never get a new computer. I would go for it if you need something that you can bring around with you now, instead of a year or more from now.
MRM Tech but again my concern is if there is a major difference between this years model and the next year's, it will be kind of dumb to buy this year's... but if there is only another spec bump next year then of course getting one now is better.
james fok Yeah thats the only problem, the design has been the same since 2012, but that was the first generation so we don't know the design update schedule yet. I see what you mean though, if USB Type C is more widely adopted within the next year Apple will most likely add one to the MacBook Pro next year, but since this year doesn't have it you would need to use adapters down to Type C from Type A which is fine, but not as simple as having one built into the laptop which I assume the next Pro will have built in.
MRM Tech exactly! i believe usb c will be a lot more popular in 2016. so it's very likely that apple will "redesign" the macbook pro or even the air, so......
Yeah, I wanna leave a comment too. I've watched the video from my rmbp13 2015 and it was, I think, the first time when I was watching youtube vid not because of the content but because of the reviewer and that feeling of how hard he tries to make the vid looks really good. So, keep it up, Dave, you're doing a great job and I hope that in short future you will have many more subscribers.
Thanks so much for providing such honest and straight forward reviews Dave. A lot of rely on tech reviews for our careers and it is important to get as much information as possible before investing in such an important tool. Thanks so much.
+تشارلز ديكنز They have different functionalities though. The macbook pro 13 is only a dual core with no gpu while the blade is a quad core with a gpu. Look at the price, compare them, check what you need it for and then it's up to you to judge.
+تشارلز ديكنز If you work and play on windows for the most part definitely get Razer Blade, plus the 2016 version is really cheap compared to last year's model
Bobby Thoms are you kidding the 2016 macbook battery is trash compared to this. They made the sht thinner and gave it less watt and magically expected it to get better battery .. there are many complaints on it.
I already got myself the base model with the upgraded 256GB drive and I am very pleased with it so I was wondering what reviewers thought of this 2015 MBP. I totally agree with your conclusion, which is why I bought it obviously. It's just nice to have your decisions confirmed by others I guess. I like your clean presentation by the way!

I was planning to buy this laptop but suddenly that "StainGate" issue got my eye. According to "www.staingate.org" about 5000 users are suffering from this issue. Though Apple is providing a free replacement program but I live in a country where we don't have any authorized Apple Store. So no faulty product coverage for me here. This is why I want a recommendation from you whether I should buy a MBP or not? What do you think you about that "StainGate" issue? And if according to you "MBP" is a no for me then which substitute would be best for : 1. Regular college work & Thesis work 2. Portability 3. Great Keyboard & Trackpad ( Yes, I am also very pickier about keyboard & trackpad & for thesis I have to do a lot of writing too), so it is a MUST. And lastly 4. A good battery life. It would be really helpful & appreciable if you do recommend me a laptop on this particular matter. Thank you :)
mine got scratched easily and i replaced the display and the thing that sucks the most is that no one seems to be talking about these issues in the macs
Came across this video today, without initially looking I thought you would've had a hell of a lot more subs for your production quality. You deserve so much more man. Although by the sounds of it, you've gained 1.5k subs in the past few weeks, so hopefully your videos are starting to catch on. Keep it up!
The dual core i5 and i7 perform nearly exactly the same. I5 is by no means a poor processor. A quad core i5 will blow the dual core i7 out of the water
Got my 128GB 13" on Monday. Gotta say it's the best user experience I've ever had. Everything's so simple and fluid. And this is coming from a £1800 gaming PC.
This is good video man. All famous youtube reviewers are getting biased as hell due to them been sponsored and shit, but I'm subbing now because this review was good.
Hi Dave Really NICE review! Thumbs up! I'm still bewildered over which one to buy. I think I'm going to upgrade the RAM and SSD to 16 and 512 GB respectively, however I'm still uncertain about the processor. How important is it to have either i5 and i7 when it isn't a quad core?
Hey Dave, Great review I subbed after watching this video. I have a question about MacBooks, Would buying a this MacBook Pro be worth it as I got a decent 700 dollar HP i5 Laptop in January? Only reason im considering is the pro is because of the brand... but is it worth it for just the name? I'm gonna be starting first year university in September and could really use some advice. Should I save the 500$ and go for the Air instead??
Thanks for this interesting review. You highlighted details other reviews don't mention (that flir thermal camera is very cool :-) and I look forward to seeing more video reviews from you. Keep up the great work!!
subbed instantly. Great video quality, like the charts and all the nice interaction stuff. You'll grow in no time like lots of people have said before in the comments!
Great video! All good info. In need of some advice. I have 2 options. $650- 2014 13" Macbook Pro with the 2.6ghz i5, 16GB ram, 256SSD. versus, $500- 2015 13" Macbook Pro with 2.7ghz i5, 8GB ram, 128SSD. So.. which do you buy and why? I know the ram and SSD on the 2015 can be upgraded. I'm not too concerned about storage. I'm more concerned about the difference in ram. Would I be better off with the 16GB 2014 i5, or the 8GB 2015 i5? The processor scores are only 5% better in the '15, so would that Ram in the '14 be the better option for better performance? The programs I'd be running would be music/recording software- Logic, Reason 10, with soft synths such as Arturia V collection 6, etc with an Apollo interface (if you're familiar). So no current video work. I'm hoping it can be usable at least until 2025. .. as I type this on my 2008 white 2.4ghz 4gb ram MacBook. which leads me to my next question. Another question/concern- I know after so many year the Macs are no longer able to receive software upgrades (I'm assuming because of hardware limitations). It happened with my 2008 Mac about 3-4 years ago, and with my friend's 2010 1-2 years ago. So it seems they have an 8 year lifespan. BUT, I have a white Mac, his is the aluminum unibody. So my question is.. is his 2 years ahead not because the computer is 2 years newer, but because it's an overall newer model? Will the 2015 give me 1 more year of updates compared to the 2014 because of the 1 year newer processor? Or is it all the same because it's a similar model with just a 5th gen vs 4th gen i5? Your thoughts? MUCH appreciated.
My 2008 Macbook is finally on its last legs and I'm looking to get either a Dell XPS 15 or this iteration of the MBP. I don't think I'm a heavy user. I'm starting a new job next year that requires word processing and spreadsheets (and I also want to learn 3D printing for architectural models). Thoughts?
This was an excellent review. Very detailed but watchable at the same time if you know what I mean. I was wondering if this MBP would be good for video editing as well? I wanted to use it for school while doing a little video editing at home.
Hi Dave, it's really a good review you had there, but can I ask how was the experience of using for video editing like Premier pro, is it still manageable for the base model ? I mean like not so 'heavy' video editing like 1080p 60fps
My baseline model is arriving tomorrow, and it's my first ever Mac (I bought it for university)
Your review really helped my with my purchase!
thanks awesome! I hope you love it.

I am thinking about buying this in year 2019
its totally worth it
Jun Wang I just did it this week! It’s great!

So I rather get a reliable machine, altough a bit slower but for way better price.

wish me luck

Very cool that you stumbled on my humble video! I've watched yours for quite a while and wow your MBP is gettin old! Time to upgrade!

Is this laptop good for editing movies with final cut x pro, imovie or priemere pro?
And editing photos?
Yeah it's perfect for that
+calis krit that is kind of why it exist its apples work horse laptop
+calis krit Depends on how long movies..
I edit mostly 3-5 min movies not 20 min...
calis krit Well it's going to do that easily, don't be afraid to not have enough power!
Love that EDM bit you put in.
4:23 is that Moto X 2014?
yup
Nice
Thanks so much for providing such honest and straight forward reviews Dave. A lot of rely on tech reviews for our careers and it is important to get as much information as possible before investing in such an important tool. Thanks so much.
Macbook pro 13 or Razer blade 2015 ? Please help?
blade
+تشارلز ديكنز They have different functionalities though. The macbook pro 13 is only a dual core with no gpu while the blade is a quad core with a gpu. Look at the price, compare them, check what you need it for and then it's up to you to judge.
+تشارلز ديكنز If you work and play on windows for the most part definitely get Razer Blade, plus the 2016 version is really cheap compared to last year's model
Thanks guys (ง’̀-’́)ง
+Goldmeteora yes , after I saw the new one I said thats's what I want , thank you for your help ⁺✧.(˃̶ ॣ⌣ ॣ˂̶∗̀)ɞ⁾
DAVE YOURE AWESOME! i started subbing when you had less than 10k subs. very happy for you man! keep it up
This or the new macbook pro 2016?
Andrew Kyle depends on if you need USB, if not the 2016 has a better keyboard, battery, speakers and screen but lacks the versatility of ports.
Bobby Thoms are you kidding the 2016 macbook battery is trash compared to this. They made the sht thinner and gave it less watt and magically expected it to get better battery .. there are many complaints on it.
2000 subs... your at 30K right now!!! Congrats man!!! I'm really hyped with this channel so much potential! Best of luck.
2019 anyone?
Watched this in 2019. I heard 2000 subs, quickly glanced, and he had 2M subs now!
Definitely for Cookie Clicker lol 2:55
I already got myself the base model with the upgraded 256GB drive and I am very pleased with it so I was wondering what reviewers thought of this 2015 MBP. I totally agree with your conclusion, which is why I bought it obviously. It's just nice to have your decisions confirmed by others I guess. I like your clean presentation by the way!
If anybody needs the wallpaper at 3:05 heres the link

Wow thanks
+i SourPatchAdults what about the green one behind him?
Thank you for this review. Non techies like me appreciate your thorough but easy to understand approach. Subscribed.
And if according to you "MBP" is a no for me then which substitute would be best for :
It's not an issue on new panels. They use a different type of coating now
Thanks a lot :)
mine got scratched easily and i replaced the display and the thing that sucks the most is that no one seems to be talking about these issues in the macs
did you buy the macbook reply me i wanna ask somthing from you!
No, I bought the HP ENVY 13 instead. I was really skeptical about the screen of 2015 model's macbook pro so I went for the envy.
Came across this video today, without initially looking I thought you would've had a hell of a lot more subs for your production quality. You deserve so much more man. Although by the sounds of it, you've gained 1.5k subs in the past few weeks, so hopefully your videos are starting to catch on. Keep it up!
jackster137 Thanks Jackster137. Appreciate the support! =)
Really fucking miss ports & glowing logo And everything is stopped using macs after the DISASTER when they fucking removed the ports
I like your clean desk set up layout, looks very sharp and good
What bothers me about this Macbook its specs..
a i5... really..
for the price it should be a i7 but whatever
The high end model was an i7 he just made a mistake
The dual core i5 and i7 perform nearly exactly the same. I5 is by no means a poor processor. A quad core i5 will blow the dual core i7 out of the water
Well presentation man, explained everything clearly, and you give out a really calm vibe man.
Excellent review! The SD slot demo was exactly what I wanted to know. Nice use of thermal imagery too. Haven't seen that before on a computer review.
One of the best reviews out there. Really enjoyed your style. Thank you, and I've just picked up a MBPr, 256 gb model.
+iBetGameR how does it run cs go?
***** How does it handle video editing? And what photo editer do you use?
I LOVE YOU MAN YOU'RE AWESOME, YOU BASICALLY GAVE ME THE REVIEWS I WANTED TO SEE, TRUE AND HELPFUL, PLEASE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!! GOOD LUCK M8
Hi Dave! just asking where did you get your wallpaper at 3:04? Thanks and great review.
Wow, even when you only had 2000 subs your videos are still good, glad to see you have over 100k now
Got my 128GB 13" on Monday. Gotta say it's the best user experience I've ever had. Everything's so simple and fluid. And this is coming from a £1800 gaming PC.
Nice. Glad your enjoying it!
This is good video man. All famous youtube reviewers are getting biased as hell due to them been sponsored and shit, but I'm subbing now because this review was good.
Hi Dave
Really NICE review! Thumbs up!
I'm still bewildered over which one to buy. I think I'm going to upgrade the RAM and SSD to 16 and 512 GB respectively, however I'm still uncertain about the processor. How important is it to have either i5 and i7 when it isn't a quad core?
Your desktop background at 3:12 is awesome!
Is the base model macbook pro good enough for editing using photoshop or sony vegas? And great review btw, just subscribed :D
Hey Dave,
Great review I subbed after watching this video.
Love your reviews man , detailed analysis on every review.
Thanks Aydan, Glad you like em!
Thanks for this interesting review. You highlighted details other reviews don't mention (that flir thermal camera is very cool :-) and I look forward to seeing more video reviews from you. Keep up the great work!!
You know Dave is super happy; he probably takes a huge dab before doing these amazing videos. Good for you, Dave, great work!
Great video, its really help me, thank you very much, we are waiting for your next video, keep healthy and keep uploading
Fantastic review. Thermal camera was a nice touch. Thanks man!
Your probably my favorite reviewer! Your smooth and so are your videos!
subbed instantly. Great video quality, like the charts and all the nice interaction stuff. You'll grow in no time like lots of people have said before in the comments!
Liking the channel so much! Your success is assured!
Came back in 2020 since this is my current daily driver but I'm considering upgrading to Apple silicon
good idea
Great review, helped me make my decision. Also, is than an Apple Watch on your wrist..??
My 2008 Macbook is finally on its last legs and I'm looking to get either a Dell XPS 15 or this iteration of the MBP. I don't think I'm a heavy user. I'm starting a new job next year that requires word processing and spreadsheets (and I also want to learn 3D printing for architectural models). Thoughts?
lovepotionsinc XPS 15. Hands down.
hi dave! do you think video editing will be buttery smooth on the base model? love your channel btw
Damn, you really need more subs. Your quality for your videos is insane.
You did really good with this review. I really don't understand why your channel is so small...
The quality of these videos was still very nice even when you had 2k subs...
This was an excellent review. Very detailed but watchable at the same time if you know what I mean. I was wondering if this MBP would be good for video editing as well? I wanted to use it for school while doing a little video editing at home.
You had less than 2000 subs less than a year ago? Wow! Now you've almost hit 100, 000! Congrats, and I just subscribed too.
160000*
20000 per month!
Hi Dave, it's really a good review you had there, but can I ask how was the experience of using for video editing like Premier pro, is it still manageable for the base model ? I mean like not so 'heavy' video editing like 1080p 60fps
