Peace, I have been attending the same church for over a year now as a new believer. I have come to realize that the vast, if not all, sermons are topical. I do long for more depth. Is this a reason to change churches or should first ask the pastor if he would be open to teaching a textual/expository sermon?
Great question Genevieve Jin! Yes - I would for sure recommend first talking with your pastor about the possibility of preaching/teaching through a whole text (expository) instead of multiple texts at once (topical). And you could even share why you think this is helpful (getting to see the full context of verses, desiring more depth, etc.). If you think it would be healthier to be in a church that does more consistent expository preaching, that could be a reason to transition. But I'd recommend some good conversations first. Thanks so much for watching!
