Ep. 60 How to Prepare to Share the Gospel
1. Advice - relationships with older Christians (who have studied apologetics, pastors, elders, etc.). Translation: go to people you know will reinforce your confirmation bias. Because god forbid you seek to investigate other viewpoints. 2. Advice - thank god for the satisfying answers, assume that "unsatisfying" answers are just based on you not understanding because you assume that god is actually great. Translation: more confirmation bias. Give credit for the things you feel good about and ignore any cognitive dissonance with a coping mechanism of "there must just be an answer I don't get". 3. Advice - when you find a hard question just remember the track record of historical places which have been discovered (as if that lends any credence). Translation: I am not capable of addressing the problem of evil or divine hidenness, let's just pretend they don't exist and remind you of some real soft-balls... 4. Advice - don't look for a scientific explanation for things a divine being does. Translation: at all costs resist the urge to think in any way critically about supernatural and unproven claims... just accept stuff happened because... erm... we told you it's true!.. honest... Classic thought stopping and avoidance. Good job guys protecting the faith 😂
Its okay to feel inadequate
Peace, I have been attending the same church for over a year now as a new believer. I have come to realize that the vast, if not all, sermons are topical. I do long for more depth. Is this a reason to change churches or should first ask the pastor if he would be open to teaching a textual/expository sermon?
Great question Genevieve Jin! Yes - I would for sure recommend first talking with your pastor about the possibility of preaching/teaching through a whole text (expository) instead of multiple texts at once (topical). And you could even share why you think this is helpful (getting to see the full context of verses, desiring more depth, etc.). If you think it would be healthier to be in a church that does more consistent expository preaching, that could be a reason to transition. But I'd recommend some good conversations first. Thanks so much for watching!
THE EARLIEST CHRISTIANS DID *NOT* BELIEVE JESUS DIED FOR THEIR SINS "Substitutionary (or Vicarious) Penal Atonement" is the fancy theological term to describe a belief that arose late in the First Century CE after the Jews lost the First Jewish-Roman War (66-73/74 CE), and Gentiles took over the leadership of the Church. Before that, the Jews who believed Jesus was the Expected Messiah, concluded Jesus' death and resurrection was just God's way of convincing all the Jews HE was the Messiah (read Acts 2:32-36) who would get rid of the Romans and set up a new, independent, theocratic, Jewish nation. However, when that didn't happen, and the leadership of the Church switched to non-Jews, many of them Roman citizens, the whole thing about Jesus dying and getting raised from the dead so the Jews would get behind his rebellion against Rome and, eventually, replacing it...didn't sound so appealing! The next thing ya know, they began re-thinking the purpose of Jesus' death and, with the help of some of the Apostle Paul's metaphors, began to think Jesus' death was a sacrifice to pay God for our sins! Trouble is, this idea completely contradicts what Jesus taught! He made it very clear that God just forgives sins, period! He taught that God has no need to get even (which is all "getting justice" means) or to make people suffer in any way as punishment. On the contrary, Jesus said God only returns good for evil, love for hate and forgiveness for sins (Matthew 5:38-45)! How crazy it is to think God is incapable of just forgiving sins because He chooses to! And how nutty it is to think a "payment" for sins can result in "forgiveness"! By definition, forgiveness means a payment is no longer required! Hello Jesus is the Messiah The Son of God The Son of David The Son of man The man God has chosen to be his anointed king The man God will judge the world through The man God raised from the dead Jesus has a God There is no triune god in scripture Jesus said the Father is the only true God! John 17 3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.
Hi Mitch Thank you for listening. We respectfully disagree with your conclusion that the Trinity is not in the Bible. In fact, the Scriptural evidence for the Trinity is overwhelming! For more information please see 3 of my blogs at Binmin.org: (1) The Trinity Explained in 8 Steps (2) Is the Trinity in the Bible? 6 Reasons We Can Say Yes! (3) 7 Truths for Understanding the Trinity Hope they help you in your quest for truth. God bless
@@Binmin_org Are you claiming it’s explicit or implicit?
@@mitchellc4 The Scriptural teaching of the Trinity is overwhelmingly explicit (even if the word “Trinity” does not appear in the Bible), as evidenced by the three blogs I recommended you read. You should be aware that there are several non-Trinitarian worldviews, such as Jehovah's Witnesses, Latter Day Saints (Mormons), or Oneness Pentecostals who errantly argue that the Trinity is untrue because the word Trinity is not in the Bible. But under serious scrutiny their arguments against the Trinity collapse. Especially if you assume the inspiration, infallibility, and inerrancy of the Bible. God bless
@@Binmin_org I don’t think you understand what explicit means Explicit would be appearance of the word “trinity” or “God in three persons” or “God the Son” Everyone knows it’s not explicit I don’t think you’re understanding that word Jesus has a God Who is Jesus’s God? Rom 15 6 that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Cor 1 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 2 Cor 11 31 The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed for ever, knows that I do not lie. Eph 1 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, Eph 1 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, Col 1 3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 1 Pet 1 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, Rev 1 6 and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Rev 3 12 He who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God; never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name. John 20 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”
