It’s amazing how much curl you get when your hair looks so straight wet and with product before the finger curls and scrunching. Mine curled even when sopping wet. Lol. Love your hair.
Yes! its the typical for looser curl/wave patterns. Wish it would have some shape when wet! lol every time I style I'm like "well I hope this works" lol!

A lot of people are surprised or simply don’t believe it when they see hair that looks straight when wet that it could possibly dry that curly. Why do you use both ultra defining and arc angel? What’s the difference in effect on your hair? And thank you for sharing your updated routine :) i love updated routines
Sandra Enriquez I’ve used both and the Arc angel although marketed to be the strongest hold is actually not but it’s more moisturizing in my opinion whereas the Ultra defining gel has the most hold to me.
Ultra defining gel is more protein based gel. Arc angel gel is more moisture base BUT does still contain protein. It’s just further down the ingredient list. Ultra defining gel is medium hold and arc angel gel is a stronger hold. Ultra defining gel doesn’t give me enough of a hold but I like the protein But, for me, arc angel gives me more hold so I combine them occasionally.
You absolutely could. It could be that way for you if your moisture vs protein balance within your hair is different than mine. I felt like when my hair was long and strictly 2a/2b I got amazing hold from ultra defining gel but once my hair began changing more it didn’t have that effect for me and I discovered arc angel gel.
This was amazing! I only wish I had you to refer to years ago! Learning to embrace my waves and you have given me such encouragement. Thanks for the products tips also. ❤🙏❤

After watching many curly girl videos, I really like yours the best. I appreciate the fact that you show the actual bottle and name of each product and how much you use of each one. I also like the tips. I have one question, when you twist your hair and then scrunch it looks like the twists come out - I’m assuming it just looks like it?. Also, I’d like to request a list of the products you use - maybe above? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Does your hair feel at all dry when using the Deva Curl gel products, or does using the heavier conditioner and leave-in help with that? I've been using the ultra defining gel, no leave-in and will sometimes use their foam, and occasionally wavemaker. My hair is ALWAYS frizzy and feels crunchy when I'm done styling with their products. Your hair looks so soft, smooth and full.
I can't use gel by itself. I always like to pair it with some type of cream product for moisture. Do you typically keep a decent amount of water in when styling?
@@KristynJoanne I've been going back and forth between styling on soaking wet hair and damp hair. My hair is really fine and thin and I've been nervous to put too many products in my hair because that has always made my hair really greasy really fast, but the Deva Curl products make my hair feel dry and brittle. I've tried wavemaker a few times and it just makes my hair look and feel heavy and dirty. I'm afraid to use the other Deva Curl cream stylers because everyone says that they are heavier than wavemaker. - Today I tried Alikay Natural products (shampoo, conditioner, leave-in and creme brulee) for the first time, and I think it was too much moisture for my hair, not enough protein. My hair looks clean, but the waves are much more stretched out and not as defined. - Does using a leave-in or cream under the Ultra Defining gel make it softer while still getting good definition and hold?
You are gorgeous and I absolutely love your hair color! Do you stay away from bleach, as it can wreck your curls? Just wondering what you do color wise. Thanks!
Would you mind including the names and possible an amazon link for the products you use? I love that your hairdryer doesn’t blow your curls apart. My fine hair struggles with blow dryer that are too powerful. Your hair is just so beautiful.

Carla Simmons agree with you , I was thinking exactly the same thing but when I saw end result it was stunning. I would LOVE my hair to look like that !
@Kristyn Joanne I’m a new subscriber, love your curls! I’ve watched so many curly/wavy tutorials and I’m curious why you use the Denman style brush like any brush - then fingercurl? I’ve seen others do same as fingercurl WITH the Denman Brush (brushing through to distribute product at angle, then last time placing brush close to roots and twiriling brush - same concept as fingercurl.) That would totally save a step in this routine. However can’t argue with your results!
I’m not seeing any 3c ringlets in your curl pattern. It’s possible the decadence line is weighing your curl pattern down. I use that line bc my hair is course and tighter coils. Your hair seems much finer and I would think a lighter line of deva curl would allow you to have tighter coiling.
My curl/wave pattern is the same with other brands/lines. I have chemically treated hair. So my hair lacks protein and moisture more than someone who doesn’t. DevaCurl does have three different lines but can be interchangeable depending on the person or hair history. I used the original for 2-3 years and I was beginning to feel like it wasn’t enough sometimes.
You are right. There is no need to do all this. I wash my hair with regular shampoo and conditioner. Wrap my hair in towel for 5 minutes. Remove towel and scrunch your hair all over with your hands. Then I use Sebastian Twisted Curl Lifter and scrunch that through (only 3 pumps on one side of my head and 3 pumps on other side of head) and that's it. This product is as light as mousse and not gunky at all. The next day I don't shampoo; I only leave my hair wet from shower. and do the same instruction. Does anyone have a good suggestion of a good spray in oil? I love coconut oil because it absorbs and doesn't feel greasy but all the ones I have tried still look greasy. You could do 2 separate bang clips if you wanted to for a variation. It is way less work to dry your hair up in clips then everything else I see people do.

Yes it’s conair pro. My favorite is my gold n hot diffuser but I use that at work lately. They don’t sell it anymore but the conair one I picked up at a supply store.
I have short similar curls to you. I went blonde a while ago but have found it's destroyed my curl pattern so I have bleach it since. How do you stay blonde and keep your beautiful curls??
I’m naturally light blonde so I don’t have to color often. I have a video explaining how I went from red back to blonde in my q&a video. I’m working on growing out my natural at the moment. Once I do that I probably will lift with color rather than bleach because it’s more gentle on the hair and I’m already so light that I know it will turn the blonde I want. You can try doing olaplex 3 treatments and some protein treatments to help repair damage but I can’t say if your curl pattern will completely bounce back. I’ve had to cut off a lot of my previous bleach damage. 😟
Your hair is gorgeous, I'm definitely saving this for later! I saw you mention that balance is really important, but how do you know whether your hair needs more protein or moisture?
Well you should probably just use both But if your hair is super soft and limp then you need protein And if your hair is dry and hard you need moisture
What was said above is accurate. Usually I know I need protein if my curls aren’t holding shape whatsoever, I’m getting tangled, frizzy or stringy. Hope these help! ☺️
Your hair looks amazing! I just had a haircut and I was wondering how do you protect your curls from falling flat when you sleep? When I had it long I used to do a pineapple but now I can't

I'm watching your video because I follow you in Instagram and your hair is wonderful! 🥰 But, one question: if your hair is 2C/3A (isn't it??) Why the products are for Super curly or curly hair and not for wavy?? Thanks!
I mix and match lines all the time. It just depends on why you are using what product. At this time I needed more protein and this line contained that. And I needed extra moisture. But, with what has been going on with devacurl I think devacurl was my actually just making my hair feel more dry in the end. Which is why I ended up switching.
Have you ever tried the balm alone on your hair? I’m looking for a simple thing to take to my ocean vacation (to combat the salt air) and it sounds like s great, hit -several -birds -with -one -stone product.
I haven’t! They recommend using it on damp hair but I had used it this way a couple times and loved it. I’ll have to try it on wet hair and see what it does 👍🏻 when I use it just on top it add really good shine, moisture, and definition so I’ll have to test it out other ways for sure ☺️
Lovely! My hair still looks wet when i scrunch the crunch out from the gel. And the gel kinda darkens my hair and my roots look stringy. What do i do wrong? To much product? (I just use gel)
I would maybe try avoiding the roots more when applying product. And maybe tilting your head to each side or upside down and then sticking your hands up in my your scalp and shaking your roots out a little bit to try and break the cast a little more. I hope this helps!
How does your hair look like that after getting it soaked? My hair looks stringy and a bit frizzy even though I was standing under the showhead for like 5 minutes. 😐
My hair always feels great in the morning, but two hours into the day, my hair falls. It feels and looks like a stringy mess. wth? I've tried so many different products already. Two months into CG method. I use NYM red shampoo, Suave coconut and strawberry as conditioner, Blueberry Bliss as leave-in and Kinky Curly Custard as gel. No glycerin, so why is my hair looking so greasy, weighed down and stringy. Is this a transition thing?
Before I can make any assumptions I need to better understand your hair and your routine. May I ask are your hair strands more on the fine side or coarse & what is your typical curl pattern (are you more wavy, curly or coily?) Also is your hair thick or leaning towards thin? What is the order in which you apply your products and how much of each do you use? Are you applying to soaking wet hair, wet hair or damp hair & do you rake or scrunch in your products? Have you done a protein treatment & are you deep conditioning. All these will help me better understand what you are doing so I can give you advice so you can have better hair days :) I have a couple ideas of what it could be but I don't want to jump the gun ;D
If your having greasy weighed down hair it sounds like something may be building up or is too heavy for you. And if your waves or curls aren’t holding their shape it sounds like you could be in need of protein. Or you just might be off balance.
Wow , what a beautiful hair. It's my first time watching your channel an I love it. Can you do this with a straight and fine hair?. Also I don't know what does mean 2a/b and c? Can you explain it? Thank you. I love your hair color!!!.Elena
UDG is a more protein based gel and more medium hold. AAG is more moisture based yet has some protein in it but is more of a stronger hold. I like the hold from AAG but I like the protein right now from UDG
OMG what is your frizz free secret? I literally just have to look at my hair and it frizzes, but you were touching your hair so much during the drying process and there was virtually no frizz !
Yes! The best way to combat frizz is healthy balanced hair. Which means finding your balance or moisture and protein. When spring came I really needed protein and then I was getting off balance and incorporated some more moisture only products for re balancing ☺️
Also, I try my best to make sure I don’t have much frizz when my hair is wet and I’m styling. Water is my best friend. If you have frizz when wet you probably will have some frizz once it’s dry. But, don’t be fooled I always have a little halo frizz ☺️

Do a search for medusa clipping. That's how I protect my shoulder length hair. Most days my day 2 and 3 curls are better than day 1.
I’d love to have that hair mess after not washing for 3 days. Lol
Have you tried Jessie's curl spiralicious? I have the same hair type as you and it's my favorite
New here....Can someone tell me the difference between the Ultra defining gel and the Arc Angel gel? Which has the stronger hold?
I'm watching your video because I follow you in Instagram and your hair is wonderful! 🥰 But, one question: if your hair is 2C/3A (isn't it??) Why the products are for Super curly or curly hair and not for wavy?? Thanks!
I mix and match lines all the time. It just depends on why you are using what product. At this time I needed more protein and this line contained that. And I needed extra moisture. But, with what has been going on with devacurl I think devacurl was my actually just making my hair feel more dry in the end. Which is why I ended up switching.
I wish my hair would look that good just one time!
Kristyn Joanne thanks for replying..Damp styling works for me. Yay, now I can use one product for both!
Do you dye your hair blonde? I have blonde dyed hair and my waves have disappeared. I need help :(
Your hairstyle is beautiful.
Wow !!! I love this
Thanks for that update routine .
Wow! What a gorgeous dreamy hair 😊
@@KristynJoanne thank you i'll try this!
Way too much product, try mixing with hair cream, I use cream+ gel
You should do a video about your tattoos! 😍
Also I am obsessed with your curls! So jealous!
Would love a updated routine!
Wow that’s a lot of products no way 😙
My hair would be weighed down and flat if I used all that product.
Very helpful. Thanks!
How does your hair look like that after getting it soaked? My hair looks stringy and a bit frizzy even though I was standing under the showhead for like 5 minutes. 😐
Thinner hair and medium to high porosity 🤷🏽♀️
Hmm like your hair doesn't absorb water quickly? do you think your moisture/protein balance is off?
Anna Rodriguez deep conditioning regularly helps me
@@KristynJoanne maybe I don't use enough protein? I always deep condition, and I think most of my products don't have protein.
@@genieh5478 I deep conditon 1-2 a week.
How many products did you use already??!! Hope they are all cruelty free.
Yup! Every single one is! 👌🏻💖
What’s your hair type mine looks so similar to yours :)
I think it’s a mixture of 2b/c waves and 3a curls :)
Rafael thanks ! :)
I am so jealous of your hair!!
It was glycerin and applying too much product. Also, my hair needed more protein rinses. Thanks!!
@@bluejean-1968What are you using for protein rinses?
New subbie! Wow! Great curly hair tutorial for med/short hair!
Great video so helpful thank you.
What cut do you wear?
Wow , what a beautiful hair. It's my first time watching your channel an I love it. Can you do this with a straight and fine hair?. Also I don't know what does mean 2a/b and c? Can you explain it? Thank you. I love your hair color!!!.Elena
im wondering if you could get curls like that without finger coiling
I can sometimes. I have a video of my hair without product or finger coiling. This just helps train my curls through transitioning. 👌🏻
Loved the walk through! Thanks!
that's amazing!! beautiful!!
What is the difference between Arc and Ultra defining gel… why use both?
UDG is a more protein based gel and more medium hold. AAG is more moisture based yet has some protein in it but is more of a stronger hold. I like the hold from AAG but I like the protein right now from UDG
OMG 😍😍😱 your hair is unreal
Your hair is Gorgeous 😍
Would love to know how you cut your hair.
I have a devacut ☺️
OMG what is your frizz free secret? I literally just have to look at my hair and it frizzes, but you were touching your hair so much during the drying process and there was virtually no frizz !
I think her hair is just very very moisturized
Your curls are just beautiful!
What is the background music
Your hair looks great!
Well that was the best way to get me to subscribe!
