29:18 Hi, student of Electrical engineering here. The death probability is dependent on few facts:
For DC, your body can tolerate a short, high amp burst pretty well. What kills you is electrolysis of your blood, as it causes your red blood cells to no longer be able to carry oxygen.
On the other hand, AC is dependent on frequency. Anything close to 50-60 Hz causes arrhythmia. (Your heart becomes confused and doesn't contract properly anymore)
If you get the frequency high enough, it becomes practically harmless. At that point you aren't worried about the effects from the electromagnetic fields, but about dumping raw heat into your body as it's basically just a huge resistor that produces waste heat from the current.

32:15 yeah, sometimes when a component fails it only show signs of the fault while power is on, so you either take everything a part and test them separately or make the component fail harder. heard a story from my dad, who was an aircraft mechanic, in which there was an electrical fault somewhere that kept triggering the circuit protection which was eluding them. to find it they held down the circuit breaker until they found something smoking or glowing.

    • @blackhawks81H

My favorite old airplane mechanic story comes from an old airline mechanic. Told me how once they banned smoking on airplanes completely, it became way harder to spot cabin pressure leaks. The cigarette smoke in the cabin escaping through said leaks used to leave brown stains which made the leak super obvious.

Best thing for breaks going down a grade is with light continuous pressure. Jamming the breaks then letting em go to cool actually heat them up quicker. Eventually you will over heat the brake and hot brakes means no friction which means no brakes. It's actually a question on the CDL tests

Being a stage engineer you learn all about electricity and to a point you don't really think about it anymore when it comes to normal things like light fixtures or PA Amps, but i will always remember the first time hooking up our big AC power station. 400A Powerlock input (400V AC in Germany) i needed 10 minutes to set it up because i was so scared about it, i checkt every connection befor actually plugging it in (you have 5 connections, 3 mains, Neutral and Ground). Messured everything 3-4 times befor throwing the main breaker. Nothing else was plugged in at that point but still, i still have huge respect when it comes to electricity. If your not careful and respect it, it WILL kill you in a flash, or cost a huge amount of money to repair. I wrecked 3 high end fog machines once, all three where hooked up to a splitter that split the three main leads so each machine would only get 230V. Only that the Neutral came of inside the splitter itself so they got the full 400V. I can now say: more volts does not equal more smoke^^

Today I learned what the slug actually is.
On a separate note awesome to hear about the OEM robot level auto painting.
Your audience reaches into my paint booth. Professional auto painter. 17 years as a tech rep for a large paint jobber and now as a collision painter. Never seen electro static used in the collision refinish.
Currently I spray catalyzed urethane sealer. Acrylic latex color coat and catalyzed solvent clear coat. Usually baked to dry.
I get to deal with the factory paint not matching from part to part on the same vehicle from the factory all the time. Not just the plastic from metal. There is around 17 different areas of color on most vehicles. Meaning front fender doesn't actually match hood door or quarter panel even though it's painted all at the same time.
Getting blend able and in some cases better match with out electro static is certainly possible. Also using around 70 toners instead of the OEM level 300 toner palette.
It was cool watching the rotating cup robots that use little to no air compared to the 25psi and 20CFM manual gun I use.

What else is there to say, kAN won the race fair and square without shenanigans while Hyce had some hubris moments there:
It had to happen sometime, but I fear that kAN will have issues still with the steam challenge.
So there probably would be a reason for a handicap for Hyce, unless kAN lets his hubris after the win go to his head.
Barring no hubris issues, perhaps kAN has the bigger locomotive or Hyce does the double header with double load?
Because if you select even loads, spawn in a similar load, so that Hyce has to do double the hookups and control of the train could be a fitting challenge?
Preferably where Hyce has to do switching to collect his consists?
Whatever the setup will be, I know it's going to be awesome nonetheless!

You can touch 2 points where theoretically 5 Amps could flow, but only with 5V. You will feel a slight tingle at most.

Watching kAN's perspective, he could have switched the slug out a bit faster if he had done something similar to Hyce (minus the dutch drop), but I guess he still made it. And that trick of Hyce's did make him catch up quite a bit...if it hadn't run him out of fuel right at the switch, it might have paid off.

I my have missed it 😅
Been watching you can kan play railroads online again and it’s inspired a lot
I was just wondering if you have ever spoken on how curves in the railroad work and the whole degrees vs radius thing
Also love the content, you fule the train obsessed child in my heart ❤️

Have you guys tried starting at different places and racing to each other's initial start location? Would give each unique challenges, e.g. one is downhill, one uphill. I need not say who gets the downhill route.

Here's a monster project for any DV modders that might be watching your comments: N&W Z class. Not a Y class, a C&O H8 class, or a Big Boy. Those are way too big. It'd probably be very difficult to mod in, but I believe the game needs an articulated loco the size of a Z class 2-6-6-2. Imagine how much coal you could drag kicking and screaming out of the mine.

29:57 or Kan. You can just be good at painting and not have to deal with that. And. If they'd go back to dip painting where they dip the whole thing in the paint boom even coat. Also I've painted all kinds of stuff in my shop and have had it come out better then a pro shop. It's not hard

Luckily for Kan, Hyce's Huber-is got the better of him in the end.
At 10:00, That's the first time I've noticed the smoke pouring from the roasting traction motors ingame. Regarding the conversation at 25:30ish: On the RS4TC-1A that I trained on and ran, the auxiliary generator was mounted on the carbody and belt driven from the the shaft running between the prime mover, main generator, and air compressor. The aux. generator powered all of the smaller loads(traction motor blowers, low voltage control circuits, battery charging, lights, and a couple misc. 110v outlets) as well as providing excitation current for the main generator.

I think Kan was saying that the video was off speed as it one is running normal speed but the other is running little faster or slower by a few mill seconds.. Meaning it will line up but after a while it will slowly distance it self every 5-10 minutes.
Well the video is still going on pretty great.
