Cut dadoes the fast easy way and get a perfect fit every time. Best if this jig is made this size for narrow stock, but also longer for wider panels. Like I said in the video, a longer one would need the locking clamp on both ends to keep it from opening up. I'll be making the longer version in an upcoming video.

Your link for the saw blades don't even ship here in Canada in the very country you live in. So much for that purchase. 😭🤬
Gut gebaut.
I would like to nominate this video for an Oscar. I've watched it several times. It's a cool tool, too.
Wood working is all about the jig. Any way to make something faster or more convenient is the way to make anything doable and satisfying. That's one reason many want to do wood working because it creates a little pocket of happiness.
"it's a little less convenient to cut a 3/4" dado with a 1/4" bit"... Yeah, it takes about 10 extra seconds! :D:D:D:D. I'd say it's worth the effort John! Great jig.
Thanks Greg :)
Yep, running a 3/4 bit in my full size router is 10x more hassle then just using a trim router. Also your not doing a full 180° engagement cut and can get a clean cut on both edges.
To quickly take out the middle bit. Just scew the router. When you contact both sides of the jig you're straight in the middle.
The number of ads in this video is absurd
Simple. Useful. Brilliant! Video has perfect pacing.
I don’t think there is a woodworking task that John doesn’t have a simple and brilliant jig or solution for! Great jig 👌👍
This jig gave me a “well duh” moment. It’s so simple. I love how you can reuse it.
I didn’t use this exact jig, but a version. Helped tremendously. Thank you for sharing your wisdom! 👍🏾
One of the most useful jigs I've ever built.
That was very easy to make John. I find it amazing how when we really stop and think about what we need to do a job that the solution is often very simple and easy to implement. Thanks!
The simplicity of some of your designs, with its functionality is just making me think "oh wow! How couldn't I think of that!"
You're the MAN!
John, I had to come back to see this because I’m sending it to another woodworker that i think will build it!
Best jig for this that I've seen. Very nicely done.
i've been thinking about the design for a dado jig for far to long and this simple and elegant tool looks just like the way forward.
truly, the Cockford-Ollie :-)
Again a very nice and simple jig. Thanks 🙏🇸🇪
I love your jigs. In the 1970s there was a book on making jigs. Sold like hotcakes. Who knew? Thank you for the video!
John! Seriously sometimes I think idk how he could make this any better than the others that are out there and BOOOM! you do it! I need this!
So simple. Recommend putting bolts on both ends. Thanks John!
Ingenious... as always. I will make this today from scraps that I meant to throw out yesterday. Oh... and +1 on the CMT blades... LOVE them.
You throw away your scraps? 😉. I keep all my offcuts. They eventually come in handy
@@andref8246 yeah. I keep ‘em until there’s no more room! Lol
Awesome jig.
This is such a better solution than fiddling with the table saw fence.
Perfect jig for my planned chuckbox project!
John this jig is perfect! I’m about to start a custom armoire for my newly remodeled bedroom. The upper most center drawer is 1/2”plywood with 1/4” dividers for ties & tie clips. The carcass and inside lower 3 drawers are 3/4” Baltic birch. I’ll be making all 3 jig sizes. These jigs will ensure tight accurate dados providing the strongest drawers, dividers, and shelves.
I love this. I love the simplicity of it. I often cut dados on my table saw, without a dado set, as I'm in the UK, and the short arbors don't allow them. This really is right up my street as a solution.
That's a great jig. Thanks for posting, and thumbs up!
You, Sir, are quite simply a genius!
Thanks for sharing. Far more versatile than making fixed spaced jigs as I've been doing.
The quality on this video is outstanding. I noticed how you took a less explanatory approach which made the video shorter, and you introduced a product, with the makers’ mob plug twice split up to not make it too long. Really top quality. Oh, and your new rekindled focus on acoustics is paying off, too, lol, the new music is fancy. Like I said top quality. Great job, as always!
Thank you for this John - It's a pisser, I've looked at lots of these dado jigs, as usual, you have done this video well.
Always with the genius ideas John! Thanks for posting.
never ceases to amaze me
Thanks for sharing those tips and the make!
Thanks , dato jig is a must have. I will start on it tomorrow.
👋😁thank you Mr John for your tutorial, very helpful, I also liked all your tools , and how u explain very clear , 👌👏👏👏👏👏bravo
Great one, John. Simple and precise!
Great job on the dado jig John! Thanks for sharing the video with us!👍💖😎JP
Brilliant! So simple yet versatile. Would be very handy to have different sizes for different bits. It looks like if you take the second slide off it would be a good edge guide for a rabbet also. I appreciate the way your mind works John!
Simple and foolproof! Thanks John.
Absolutely brilliant. What a valuable jig!
Good idea John.👍👍
What a terrific jig. I will be making one to use for my next project. Thank you for sharing your knowledge good sir. Cheers 👍😎🇦🇺
Great jig John! Definitely going into the favs.
Thank you again, you're a constant source of inspiration!
Brilliant, John! Really well done! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I just love this Jig, I am going to make one, Thanks!
Easy to make and awesome!
Thanks John!
Fantastic stuff as usual! Love your videos John :)
Just got some blades and gonna build the jig! Thanks John.
Excellent jig.
Thank you for sharing Sir!
That's clever. Good job.
Вкусно делаешь! Очень нравится. Удачи в бизнесе!
I agree on using a good quality blade. Such more enjoyable and better results.
John you are my motivation thanks
Wow that really is brilliant!!! I'm in the shop right now, I'm going to make one!!
Awesome!!!! Great project!!!! Thank you John!!!!! 🔥👍😎😁🤘
great idea, and inspires all kinds of modifications. bravo.
Awesome! Thanks for a simple solution
Nice jig! I built something very similar but I use a top bearing router bit. Adjusting the dado directly to the plywood you are using is 100% the best way to do them.
I prefer this method as well. Then you can use any top bearing bit (as long as it's smaller than the slot) and any router.
Bradley, Your idea is brilliant! I like that better! I will make one. Thank you for the idea.
Simple but very accurate thanks for sharing
Hey man, this is genius! I am going to make one. By the way, I stumbled across one of your videos a few years ago regarding installing drawer slides with a framing square. I made my whole kitchen using that method. Thanks for making these videos!!!
Brilliant ! and so simple, same principle as a crosscut or ripping guide for a circular saw
For any other dado you can use a drill-bit as the reference. I like this jig!
Very clever! Thanks for sharing!
Great idea John. I don't make a ton of dados but as easy as this jig is to make it pays for itself after one use. (using scraps and its paid off before the first use)
Brilliant!
works well I tried to add photo of the one I made haha to old didn't know how!!
Brilliant John!
THIS
IS
GENIUS!
Yeah those blades are baller! Love em! And they go on sale pretty often
Very good idea!!! Thank you.
Has always sir, amazing work thank you for sharing
Wait!!! Wood glue. The real John has been abducted 😂
Wow great job 👍
I need this big as I’m about to build a set of bookshelves. I’d actually like to buy one that’s machined instead of taking the chance that I would be off on the squareness part.
You've beaten Tamar 3X3 with this one. ;) Cheers mate!!!!
For someone doing a lot of this, it'd be a great jig to have to hand.
I want that router table!
Very nice good job 👌👍👍👍
Great idea. Just making this comment to support you ;-)
love it
Well done
buenísimo maestro!
This is so cool 😎
Fantastic very good Brasil 🇧🇷🇺🇸
Good stuff!
You do some fantastic jigs! I review your videos time again to check-How did he do that !! Great job!
Jolly good.
You guys up yonder must have access to a great selection of plywood. Not so much in Louisiana.
Brilliant
Seems like someone has hijacked John's channel.
Home run 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Sweet!!!
Wicked jig
The reason this is so well designed is because its high accuracy comes about through not having to measure anything.
Who is that woodworker who says “measuring is the enemy of precision?”
I have invented the missing link to that jig on a router table that you can also use to make rabbits and dado’s and styles and rails all in one
Ottimo 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Perfeito!
Hi I really like your videos. I tried making your version today using 1/2 bit. However I can't say it came out good. The dados were too small. Not sure what I did wrong.
John, what was the reason to put the knob for the width adjust on the bottom vs. the top which would be more ergonomic. Just curious.
Thanks for sharing.
nice.
Hi manythanks for your excellent tutorial, could u also tell me please what table saw are u using, or did u make it your self Des
