    Nivla i don’t know why but I find you hilarious.
    I get the impression you’re just a really likeable fella.
    Cheers from Northern Ireland :-)

      Northern Ireland. The heart of Irish whiskey. What is your favourite Irish drop?

    Well I've to agree with you... the noose offers more than the mouth, nothing compare to a Laphroaig 10 that is also an accessible price choice (I live in France so). Between the two the see cask is way more better, but for the price the 2 are an excellent choice for a beginner. Nice work. Peace.

      Thanks for the comment. I was disappointed with the land cask and the whisky ended up being used in Rusty Nails. That is the fate of most of the whisky that doesn't really grab me.

    Thanks for the review. After watching both the Sea Cask and this one, I now know which one I want to go for. Very informative and to the point.

      @@NivlasNightcapNotes so I ended up trying both, and the one I bought for myself and tried first was the sea cask, based on this and the other review. However, I really didn't care for it, to be honest. I tried the land cask at my whisky club a while afterwards, and that's the one for me! It just goes to show that all of us have to have our own experiences and try different things. People's perspectives and palates differ. Cheers!

      Exactly right! Some people love peat (myself included) and others can't stand it. Some like chilli in food and I hate it! Thanks for the comment.

    I got the "burnt rubber" element as well, and it's not too pleasant, I must say. I'm a "newbie" and was trying to find something "smoky" on the cheap and stumbled upon this
    for $35 US. I enjoy JW Black and DB and wanted an entry point to something "smokier". However, I must admit that I was underwhelmed by this and won't be purchasing it again.
    It's tough to find something "peaty" under $50 that tastes decent, I guess. Thanks for the review, you confirmed my thoughts.

      This bottle went long ago, made into Rusty Nails. The Sea Cask is still on the shelf. There are a couple of blended Islay Malts that you might find cheaper than others. Big Peat is one. Smokehead is another, but make sure it is not the over-proof version. And there is one called The Six Isles. Try one of those if you can find them.

    The Aerstone whiskys are not available here, but I've heard of them.
    There's some whisky brands that store their casks near the sea and in boats on the sea.
    What I really want to know is how much diffrence there are between the ways of storage.
    But for that they need to have the exact same whisky poured into similar casks. One cask as a reference stored at the distillery, and the others in completely diverse places. But I haven't come across anyone doing this.
    What if they sell it just because of the fluff 🤔😁
    Thank you Nivla for the honest review 🤗

      I think a number of the NAS whiskies are just getting rid of oversupply and to try to make a quick buck. These were labelled as 10yo though. As I have said, I loved the sea cask, but the land cask is not so good. Yet to try one stored on a boat!

    Thanks again. As I really dont like peat, I will not buy this one. By the way, I have bought a Bowmore 12 a while back, and I found it totally offputting as well.

    • @PezrulezHaakon
      @PezrulezHaakon 3 года назад +2

      Just let the Bowmore be for a while and come back to it.
      And when you do, take a really good time with it in a glass. Nose it every other minute for at least 30 minutes, before even taking a sip. Then you will find other notes during that time that will push aside the peat smoke.
      Same with tasting it. Take your time.
      How strange it may sound, smell has a lot to do with the taste. 🤗

      @@PezrulezHaakon thanks. I will try it! I found it smelling and tasting very medicinal and like disinfectant and indeed rubber. So nothing pleasent that I find in most Speysiders like vanilla, sherry, cinneman, pears and appels or dark fruits. (my favorites are Cragganmore, Glen Elgin, Old Pulteney, Glenfarclas, Dalwhinnie). Cheers from Porec , Croatia

      @@Andre-nt4dn Here's a strange thing. As you get used to the peat, you will find fruity notes, vanilla, sherry, chocholate, butter scotch even in peaty and smoky whiskys. You just have to get used to it. In time, you won't notitce the peat and smoke nearly as much as now. That has happened to me with most heavy smoked whiskys I've tried.
      When I go for a Lagavulin, Ardbeg or Laphroaig today, I barely notice the smoke. The sweet notes come up really strong, even if I definitely notice the peat and smoke. 😋

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  3 года назад +1

      Don't feel like you need to have peated whiskies. Like all things it is a matter of choice and taste. Lots of people like chilli in their food, but I cannot stand it. Hate it! And like you some people do not like peat. Fear not. There are plenty of whiskies out there that don't have peat. But as Pezrulez says, come back to it and give it time. As you nose it, keep your mouth open to get a full experience. All the best. Nivla
