What Dreams May Come! I took my wife to see this movie and after she asked why I would take her to a movie for a good time where she spent almost 2 hours crying her eyes out. That is what she did for most of the movie right to the end.
Dude, seriously, every single time you put up a video I have to grab my movie notepad. I sincerely appreciate it! There are a few that I haven't seen at all but I think I need to start this list with an old favorite, The Outlaw Josie Wales. Thanks, and my gratitude!
Midnight Run is a spectacular movie that had the bad luck to have a theatrical release the same week as Die Hard. Definitely a must watch! If you like heist movies in the vein of Oceans 11, the newly added movie The Vault is surprisingly good.
Already subscribed! I watch at least a few of the ones you recommend. [EDIT] And I was on a first name basis with a manager of a Blockbuster outlet back from late '80's until they shut the store down in the late '90's. He actually recommended the French films, Red, White, and Blue. Good stuff.
Good list. I loved The Machinist. The transformation was almost unbelievable He looks completely emaciated in that one. But you are right. He is a delightfully odd guy anyway, so almost nothing he does surprises me. He was excellent in Harsh Times. Keep the lists coming. Luv your taste in movies.
I think I'm going to try Code 8. Rarely do I like superhero movies but for some reason I want to give that one a shot. But tonight I'm going to watch What Dreams May Come. I have seen it, but way back when it was in theaters and I don't remember much about it.
IMO, one of the best, or possibly the VERY best, Netflix movie has to be, "The Perfection." As far as "What Dreams May Come," it's dark and sad, but it also has joy and redemption at the end. Now, "One Hour Photo," THAT was relentlessly dark, with absolutely no redemption for anyone at the end. Having said that, I will add I've only seen WDMC once. It was far too emotional for me to watch again. "The Machinist" is just brilliant.
Tbis is the first I’d heard of Michael K Williams death and I’m heartbroken. He was solid in every role…The Wire and Hap and Leonard were my favorites of his roles.
I'm shocked. I'm just ending my nth binge watch of The Wire. Now I'm going to follow up with Boardwalk Empire. Chalky could have been Omar's granddad. He will be missed.
I had Level 16 show up as a recommendation, so I'm glad to see you recommend it as well. If you're looking for some more documentaries, Black Holes, The Edge of all we Know and Tread are 2 I liked for vastly different reasons. Tread is about how a man, who wasn't a saint himself, may respond to getting pushed down and Black Holes appealed to the geek in me.
Watched Level 16 last night based on your recommendation. You are right, it was a clever movie. You said the low budget kind of shows and I suppose you are right to a certain degree but it also fits in with part of the story and I think it works. When I think of low budget, I usually expect stiff acting, odd lighting (too bright, too dark), weird editing, etc. This movie had very few points that I would say "Oh man, they should have thrown some more money at that". I also watched Kate last night. It's new on Netflix. If you like John Wick, watch this one.
The Last Blockbuster is a nice documentary about just that, the last Blockbuster. It does give a bit of history but for those of us who remember going to Blockbuster on a regular basis, there is a ton of nostalgia. The look, the smell, browsing the various titles, hovering by the return counter to see if the hit movie of the week was returned but not returned back to the shelf, getting one movie for me and one for my wife... It is a good movie to watch.
When I was 16 years old, I saw a movie on the shelf at my local convenience store. It had Robin Williams in it and so without knowing what is was all about, I rented it and went home and watched it. It was not what I was expecting by a long shot but it's an amazing movie. I have still never watched it since though and probably never will be able to bring myself to watch it again. Everyone needs to see it at least once though.
Netflix is not the cause of the downfall of Blockbuster... Blockbuster is the cause of its downfall. The creator of Netflix went to Blockbuster with his idea and essentially got laughed out of the room.
Once again a great list! Have you ever recommended The Worthy? It's a really good dystopian film from Abu Dhabi. The voiceover is pretty decent and it has surprising twist at the end.
Dead Man Down was a good movie Noomi Rapace makes many movies that are acquired tastes but she is always good. “What Happened to Monday” where she plays 7 characters us under appreciated and entertaining
@FlickConnection I’m a huge fan of your recommendations in fact you’ve given me some pretty good stuff to watch in the past like Boss Level on Hulu which, I absolutely loved because I’m a huge gamer and also a huge fan of Frank Grillo. I wanted to recommend a really fun haunted house based horror movie to put on your Halloween recommendations list this year if you’ve never seen it or haven’t recommended it in the past too many times, this movies called Haunt. It’s a great compact and tight haunted house horror flick where basically these teenagers go to a “extreme” haunted house and end up getting locked in with these sadistic killers that are hunting them down in this locked haunted house attraction. Is it the most original concept ever? No, not really but, if you have shudder it is a really fun one to watch in fact, it may be one I’ll rewatch myself this October since it’s been awhile since I saw it the first time and I absolutely loved it for what it was the last time I watched it.
Great recommendations list, Darren. Films that I’ve seen and highly recommend….The Take, Level 16, Code 8, Triple Nine💥, Headshot, The Machinest💥and The Outlaw Josey Wales💥 Always great to see your Flick Connection presentations. Take care and catch you on your next presentation ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks this was a really well curated well thought out list. I don’t think it’s on Netflix now but Raw (2016) just floored me. One of the best horror films I’ve seen and I’m anticipating Titane by the same director more than any film in a long time. Prospect IS on Netflix and one of the best sci-fi thrillers I’ve seen in a long time. Those are my offerings. Keep up the great work
Captain Fantastic, What Dreams May Come & The Machinist would be the ones i'd recommend folks mot to miss. The ones i'm gonna watch from the list are The Take, Budapest & Headshot. And if u can find Very Bad Things (1998) it's a great flick, kinda in the same ilk as Hangover but goes in a different direction with it, i don't wanna hype it so i'll just say who's in it. Christian Slater, Jon Favreau, Cameron Diaz, and so many more character u will recognise.....it's a wild ride and one not to be missed 👍
Midnight Run and Josey Wales are classics; both are must watch. I recently watched Shot Caller and Triple 9, liked them both. Just watched Level 16 last night, based on your recommendation and enjoyed it. Darren - please keep the content coming.
Haven't seen it yet, but Headshot looks fantastic. If you haven't seen it, you need to check out "The Raid"; another Indonesian movie with alot if the same cast and ultra-serious fight scenes.
The Machinist is one of my favorites! Also watched The Eyes of My Mother because of your recommendation, holy shit, so good! Beyond disturbing but so good lol
@@enigmatic247 I just watched Martyrs for the first time a few months ago...good lord lol😳 Definitely some similar imagery but I got major Psycho vibes from The Eyes of My Mother
“Not your favorite kind of story in a western movie”, so what *is* your favorite kind of story in a western or an example of a western that has some of your favorite western story elements? I think my favorite kind of western tropes are “self conflicted to do the right thing”, “grade-a gunslinger hotshot”, “heists”, “alabaster beauties”, “main character with a sense of humor”, “robinhood-eque” and “rivals.” And of course a good soundtrack never hurt. To give an example, “my name is nobody.”
I heard about The Take when it first came out but then never again. I've heard simply wonderful things about Captain Fantastic, but again that one didn't stick around in the theaters long enough for me to check out. What Dreams May Come is one of my very favorite movies but I have never been able to bring myself to watch it a second time. The visuals are indeed amazing but so is Robin Williams's performance. The Outlaw Josie Wales became an instant legend for me and my friends when it first came out in the theaters. Odd long story with the most amazing cast of characters, I mean this movie just doesn't stop! And, of course, Midnight Run is an absolute classic. Anytime anyone mentions Charles Grodin my mind goes right for this movie. Grodin and DeNiro at their very best, with excellent chemistry, in a 'road' movie that's an absolute hoot! Yeah, I've heard of a few of these…
for those who love The Raid, Headshot & bunch of brutal Indonesian action flick, I recommend martial art film WIRA from Malaysia. Story kinda ok, but the action are really good. & it got that dude from The Raid.
MADE YOU LOOK is an excellent documentary and was a fascinating look inside the art world. Highly recommended! Also, ARC was very enjoyable and also highly recommended.
Captain fantastic just watched and HIGHLY ENJOYED AND RECOMMEND. Heard about it years ago because of the sweet child of mine song and never watched the movie. Thank you for reminder!!!
In Midnight Run, just the shot of Deniro flashing his freshly stolen badge to absolutely no one on the street and the look on his face never fails to kill me. It's maybe 2 seconds long and I love it.
Thank you for exposing me to South Korean movies, I always thought they only do cheesy romantic flicks due to K-pop but after Parasite, I now give them a fair chance. Only problem I don't know any South korean movies, that's where you come in man thanks 👍👍

Oooh! I'm off to see The Machinist!
The Machinist was better than expected. Yep... Dark AF.
What Dreams May Come! I took my wife to see this movie and after she asked why I would take her to a movie for a good time where she spent almost 2 hours crying her eyes out. That is what she did for most of the movie right to the end.
I'm very late on this but, What Happened to Monday, should on the list. It took me by surprise how good it is.
Perfect timing! I have only seen two of these. Thanks for the upload.
Highly recommend "What Dreams May Come" and Jose Wales
Dude, seriously, every single time you put up a video I have to grab my movie notepad. I sincerely appreciate it! There are a few that I haven't seen at all but I think I need to start this list with an old favorite, The Outlaw Josie Wales. Thanks, and my gratitude!
What Dreams May Come left me emotionally exhausted for days. Wonderful film, to only watch once.
One of the very few movies I've been unable to watch again. Beautiful and haunting.
Tim Burton film, Big Fish, is also as improbable and heart wrenching
Seen it, LOVED it, won't watch it again.
I watched it once as a teen and I am good. 😭😭😭
I saw it with a date. Not a good choice by me at all. Great movie but depressing af. Never saw the girl again.
What dreams may come is an amazing movie it breaks your heart but it’s so worth it. Amazing actor, May he Rest In Peace 💓
I will watch “Made You Look”. I loved “Head Shot”. I will rewatch “Midnight Run”. Good video. Good afternoon 🌞. Can’t forget my old man.
Pine Gap🇦🇺, Secret City🇦🇺, Dead Wind🇫🇮, Altered Carbon🇺🇸, Behind Her Eyes🇬🇧, Body Guard 🇬🇧
Midnight Run is a spectacular movie that had the bad luck to have a theatrical release the same week as Die Hard. Definitely a must watch! If you like heist movies in the vein of Oceans 11, the newly added movie The Vault is surprisingly good.
No good movie had as much bad luck as, "Sorcerer". It came out the same Friday in 1977 as Star Wars.

Yes! I have noticed the voice dubbing to be surprisingly good lately. Voice actors doing good work!
I'm so happy to see you recommend What Dreams May Come. It's def in my all time top 10 & I think lots of others will agree once they see it.
Good list. I loved The Machinist. The transformation was almost unbelievable He looks completely emaciated in that one. But you are right. He is a delightfully odd guy anyway, so almost nothing he does surprises me. He was excellent in Harsh Times. Keep the lists coming. Luv your taste in movies.

Thank you for your recommendations. Midnight Run will be the first to watch.
You do an excellent job in bringing the fruits to the table in under 2 min. Love your style!
Midnight Run has a line that my friends and I have quoted from when it came out. Awesome movie.
Have you mentioned "Wind River" as a hidden gem ? if not, you should ... it's certainly a hidden one.
IMO, one of the best, or possibly the VERY best, Netflix movie has to be, "The Perfection."

I'm still brokenhearted about his death.
I'm planning on watching boardwalk empire and hap and Leonard soon Michael was definitely a great actor
I LOVE the eclectic taste in ALL your selections. Another GREAT list. Thanks D.🤗

Hang on. that Idris Elba film The Take. also goes by Bastille Day I believe. And Idris does the closing theme song. Good action film.
Never seen midnight run so will most definitely check this movie out , thanks DVD
I recently saw the last blockbuster, I loved it!
I always LOVE IT when this guy does a video!! Bringing us little known gems, that are well worth more than their weight in celluloid!!
Me too!!

Michael just like Phillip were our hidden gems as far as actors goes
Great list. Arq is definitely a hidden gem.
Midnight Run is brilliant- 3 great actors: DeNiro, Charles Grodin and Yaphet Kotto.
The Last Blockbuster is a nice documentary about just that, the last Blockbuster. What dreams may come is my favorite movie ever made. I've seen it hundreds of times but I never get tired of it. So so so so good.
Shimmer Lake - not something i would have watched without your recommendation - fun & riveting movie, thanks

Headshot actually shocked me when I watched it. I told my wife the next day it was the most violent action movie I'd ever seen.
Midnight Run is such a great watch. Alonzo Moseley recommends it.
Definitely one of my favorites
Finally!!! I was getting worried about you for a second!!
The Machinist: LOL - you said a lot of meat on the bones at 22:40.
Netflix is not the cause of the downfall of Blockbuster... Blockbuster is the cause of its downfall. The creator of Netflix went to Blockbuster with his idea and essentially got laughed out of the room.
I don't know how anyone can be nostalgic about Blockbuster. It was one of the sleaziest companies ever.
Hmm. Border Books and Amazon, Sears and Amazon, Xerox and Apple. There was a lot of that in the 1980-90's.
16, 8, 5, 4, and 2 all very good movies across the spectrum
Once again a great list! Have you ever recommended The Worthy? It's a really good dystopian film from Abu Dhabi. The voiceover is pretty decent and it has surprising twist at the end.
I have got to watch Head Shot. You are absolutely right about midnight run. Great movie.
Dead Man Down was a good movie Noomi Rapace makes many movies that are acquired tastes but she is always good. “What Happened to Monday” where she plays 7 characters us under appreciated and entertaining
Hey Darren thanks so much for making these videos I really appreciate them and you.
Shimmer Lake is so underrated. It’s an almost perfect movie. Hey Darren Van Damme, have you ever dressed up as Johnny Depp for Halloween?
I've always thought he looks like Johnny Depp
Haven't been seeing you in my feed.
Glad you're back
The Machinist is serious thinspiration.
Great list. I would add the Bad Batch with Jason Momoa. Thanks.
Thank you to patrons and channel members for supporting this great content

Captain Fantastic, What Dreams May Come & The Machinist would be the ones i'd recommend folks mot to miss.
The ones i'm gonna watch from the list are The Take, Budapest & Headshot.

Dude I don’t know how you have the time to watch all these and also remember the older movies you’ve seen. I forget what I watched a week ago.
Haven't seen it yet, but Headshot looks fantastic. If you haven't seen it, you need to check out "The Raid"; another Indonesian movie with alot if the same cast and ultra-serious fight scenes.
you made my RUclips subscribed list. Great content.
The Machinist is one of my favorites! Also watched The Eyes of My Mother because of your recommendation, holy shit, so good! Beyond disturbing but so good lol
Holy shit, the eyes of mother was so fucked up. It was definitely influenced by the french movie martyrs
@@enigmatic247 I just watched Martyrs for the first time a few months ago...good lord lol😳 Definitely some similar imagery but I got major Psycho vibes from The Eyes of My Mother
i knew you were going to hit this number of subs. code 8 looks good.

Most of them in OZ I will watch. Saw Kate and liked it. Have you seen it yet?
Yeah, I've heard of a few of these…
The Last Blockbuster is sooo good…for nostalgia and a bit of a historical look at how streaming came to prominence
for those who love The Raid, Headshot & bunch of brutal Indonesian action flick, I recommend martial art film WIRA from Malaysia.
Story kinda ok, but the action are really good.
& it got that dude from The Raid.
Midnight Run is such a special movie. Great to see it called out!
MADE YOU LOOK is an excellent documentary and was a fascinating look inside the art world. Highly recommended! Also, ARC was very enjoyable and also highly recommended.
Shotcaller is WILD! Loved it. Level 16 was odd but surpringsly had me engaged for the duration.
shotcaller was so good

Midnight Run is so cool.... 😎✌️🖖
Ahhhhhh, a list with some movies I haven't seen yet. Thank you, I will have some new flicks for this week! 🧡📽🧡
I don't recall ever unsubscribing from your channel. I've always watched your content and enjoy it. Weird!
You're doing great! Keep up the good work!
“A lot of meat on the bone with The Machinist”… I see what you did there 😂
I've already seen a couple of these flicks, but I'm thinkin' that I might have to check out that "Time To Hunt". That looks interesting.
Yeah, this will be bookmarked for some time. Oh, Outlaw best of Eastwood imo.
Captain fantastic just watched and HIGHLY ENJOYED AND RECOMMEND. Heard about it years ago because of the sweet child of mine song and never watched the movie. Thank you for reminder!!!
I agree about midnight run! I also enjoyed the take no where as good but fun to watch.
In Midnight Run, just the shot of Deniro flashing his freshly stolen badge to absolutely no one on the street and the look on his face never fails to kill me. It's maybe 2 seconds long and I love it.
Probably not a finer actor than Deniro. It's a shame he's such a douche in real life
Awesome recommendations as usual... I think it's time to get a 4K camera for your uploads though ;)
I will sign up with the VPN you endorse.

Darkest Robin Williams movie is World's Greatest Dad, directed by the genius Bobcat Goldthwait. Highly recommended.
