    Just got the 55u8k today. OMG
    This thing is a beast. To call this bright is a understatement. After i lowered the brightness to about 75 and edged up the contrast a tad, the image came alive. A pure white dress had detail. No white blooming at all. And right beside it was a dark suite and colors that popped. The black level is close to oled in my book.
    Very happy with this tv. And $400 off at Best buy too.

    I am fine with a little less brightness when coupled with highlights being done very well and zero blooming. 144kz for gaming and the well-done HDR with the PS 5 brings the win home for the U8K. This will be my birthday present to myself this year! Thanks Q. I would have no idea what all these various TVs are truly about without your content!

      Smart. I have U8G from 2021 flagship. It’s 1500nit peak. It’s SUPER BRIGHT. Still super bright. I think Hisense turned it minor down to FOCUS on --USER END experience . “How to get the BEST COLOR in consumer end” 🎉Like we buy a 330 horse power car but we only drive mostly 30-120km/hr. That HOW CAR handles 120km/hr is MOST critical than like “how cars handle breaks at 180-200km/hr test test test…super useless”. I turn my TV down to about 53-75% back light peak brightness. So its like literally made sense , most contents are about 800nit-1200nit range. And yes a few times BRIGHT SUNNY DAY in winter,,,I decided to leave curtain open.--wow……. Turned Backlight on 100 💯 % at FUll tilt. The TV just SPARK Vibrancy😮😮😮. That’s when I knew how this tv can Pivot .

    I always watch these reviews on my calibrated C1, so I was really curious because you’re praising this TV so much so I purposely watched it on my phone and you can really see how much it pops! It’s a very impressive TV! I wish I could get my mom’s hisense to look better but unfortunately it’s an older model and it’s not one that you have settings for.

    After researching the Hisense U8K I feel it is not worth the upgrade over my Hisense U8H because neither addressed my needs. My TCL TVs play most video formats and have a quicker start up and navigation than my Hisense. I feel Hisense sacrifice processing speed/power to be price competitive. My TCL are 10 bit vs Hisense 8 bit processor so TCL is the better fit for me! Great review!

    Thoughts on U8G vs U8K? - Reeeeally enjoy my U8G. At TV store plugged laptop into U8K. Adjusted U8K to be like my U8G settings. Played test footage. U8K looked ok, but did not WOW me over memory of U8G at home playing same footage. Back home, memory of U8K from store did not make watching my U8G a disappointment. Not able to compare side by side. Colors on U8K seems much cooler than U8G. Prefer the warmer u8g colors - skin tones, warm color ranges. Both U8K and U8G set to warmest color temp.

    It uses frc to simulate 10 bit so I'm fine with that. I think Samsung does that with phones but I'm not sure. I notice no gradiention when using hdr on my S22 Ultra. I got the r655 because reviewers were telling people that it has minimal blooming or blooming you can't see. They are liars as blooming is very apparent. Thank you for the video. I'll get the U8K.

      Thanks for this comment. I was wondering about the use of an 8-bit panel. Thinking I’d be hard pressed to buy any 8-bit panel when everything else is 10-bit. So no limitation at all with 8-bit? Quantum says he does notice the “difference” vs 10-bit panels but doesn’t elaborate.

    • @Liberates
      @Liberates Год назад +3

      @DarkKnight-gw4gw Hello. I think he means banding on the gradiention. Most tvs have some gradiention based on rtings.
      "The main difference between an 8-bit and 10-bit panel is the number of colors they can produce; an 8-bit panel can display 16.7 million colors, while a 10-bit panel can display 1.07 billion. However, many modern 8-bit displays use a technique called 'dithering', allowing them to produce as many colors as a native 10-bit panel. 'Temporal Dithering' (also known as Frame Rate Control or FRC) produces certain colors by cycling between the adjacent shades. This type of flickering isn't visible most of the time, but when it is, it's usually in the darker shades. The other technique is called 'Spatial Dithering', which places the two adjacent shades very close to each other to trick the eyes to see an intermediate shade, but it isn't used as often as FRC."
      "There's less banding on the Dell U2718Q than the LG 48 CX OLED, even though the Dell has an 8-bit+FRC panel while the LG is true 10-bit."

    • @Liberates
      @Liberates Год назад +1

      Some professional monitors also use 8 bit with 2 frc which for example is dell u4320q. For all intensive purposes it is 10 bit.

    I was going to wait another year to see if they give us the whole shabang... but recently i got the return to home menu issue, and its breaking me just driving me to that level of madness... tried all the fixes and it still does it... at first i thought maybe someone had a hisense and their remote worked with mine as well.. it did this every blue moon, to few days, to now too many times every day... so i pulled the trigger and went for the u8k... i would of preferred 10bit, which your right if your not really paying any attention or comparing, you wouldn't really notice it or it wouldn't matter much....its a certain in between of certain colors the 8bit+frc can't mimic.. being like when the u8g had that cyan issue where parts like aquaman the greens were 1 color but not showing off the full pallet where there's actually 3 to 4 other greens with a certain contrast and even highlights with detail.. this is the same effect with certain light colors that i noticed being greens, and the mid lights such as violets, purples, and blues... thats just nitpicking... i was happy with my vizio m series back in the day to the sony 930e, to the u8g and now u8k... havn't regretted any of them... just the vizio which my dad had out the box and never calibrated, a year in and had us watching everything faded and washed out lol....

    I bought a Sony 55" 950H a few years ago based on your reviews of it. I have a dark room and the bloom isn't too bad on it but it is there. You were about the only one who called that out during your testing and reviews so I knew what i was getting beforehand. Too many 'reviewers' failed to mention the bloom. Just curious how the U8K handles motion compared to the 950H and which one do you believe has the better SDR picture quality and upscaling. Thank you.

    • @tonyzeno2715
      @tonyzeno2715 Год назад

      the thing is your 950H as a whole is a better TV then this or the U8H, yes it blooms a bit around subtitles but you can manage. my 950G is a 30 Backlight (50 is max) and I rarely need to adjust it. the only downside is our older Sonys dont have hdmi 2.1 and the motion between the 2 is probably on Par with eachother. Not the Best but not the worst either.

    U8H seems like the better deal but also very are to find these days and bad image processing .. so you have to go with U8k. Which looks amazing in store demo but from reviews I've read from many sources color banding still an issue... I mean it's very much improved over the U8H but it's still behind what I expect from this kinda TV.. A shame since other wise TV perfect for the price...

    My only grip with the TV is I can't find good settings for upscaling regular SDR ( 720p/1080i) content on regular tv channels and the motion is subpar...On my U8K when I use motion gradient on high I get a smokey look throughout the whole screen almost like it's a little too much brightness. Brightness adjustment did not fix the issue. 4k content, blu ray content, UHD content looks great but I don't like that I have to get the soap opera effect to get smooth motion as it just looks weird to me...Only other issue I had is getting HDMI 3 ARC/ARCe to play nice with my Onkyo 7.2 receiver..After toggling it on and off a few times it's been good now...Quantum using the PS5 is great to show off the TV's picture quality (PS5 has an excellent GPU) but again most people watch cable channels more and the settings I'm using off the members areas aren't working too well for watching regular tv daily...I don't think my cable box is playing well with BT2020 color space for cable channels...REDS are really over saturated...The new firmware update didn't do anything that I could tell to my eye also...Love this channel. Thank you Q...

    You should do a video with your best settings on the hisense u8h 75 in with the u8k side by side. You did A calibration settings on your hisense u8h last year, but im very curious to see if your settings on the u8h for this new firmware update in 2023 is really the best settings. Would love yo get an answer on that. I have the 75in u8h , with my preferred adjusted picture settings and its awesome. This new firmware update on the hisense u8h in 2023 is out of this world . Not worth the switch to the u8k for me, but if you dont have the u8h , the u8k is great buy . You got to win a a good pannel lottery with hisense , i guess i got lucky after master reseting the tv like 7 times since i got it . Great honest work Quantem , but i really wish you continued more on the u8h , i think you will be suprised how unbelievable this tv can get so close to an oled without spending crazy amount of money. The black levels are just as crazy beautiful as there u8k , and the colors do really pop! You will have some isuues on low content, but hdr , 4k are Wow!! Out of this world, low content 1080p are great and sometimes not so great on youtube tv on certain channels. Cant wait to see what hisense brings out next ! Im very curius Quantom what you think of there limited release of the 85UX hisense series. Hope to hear a reply from you .

Unfortunately, the colors look dull and look very dim, does not work well with new firmware for 2023, looks way better in factory settings, reds are vibrant, blacks are deep black, and whites are white. Yet S90C might also work but its at U7K around 1000-1100 peak brightness level(u lose some respective highlight pop ,especially in day time. ) but still like 40% Brighter than Nasty dim fake “premium” over priced peak brightness 750nit each yr OLED. . Their S90C 77” and UNDER -size r secretly actually last yr QD-OLED panels. U can double dipping. But yea if only 65” .. S95B is BEST. U8H was 96-98% matching d visual. I can only imagine U8K is even better . Don’t bother with SONY their colors are just off looking. Can’t explain. Our eyes pick up once used to Samsung/Hisnese panels.
