There is precious little footage of Dr. Know with Kyle Toucher playing guitar and singing.I wish there was more. In my opinion, the best Dr. Know is this line up, and this footage is proof positive of that. My favorite of the "Nardcore" bands, far better than Ill Repute, Stalag 13, Aggression and RKL (Rich Kids On LSD).etc.(all bands I love and listen to still to this day) Dr. Know always put out great records, despite the fact they were on a "bad" label known for stiffing their bands out of money. Another story, another time. Thanks for posting this gem of excellent historical footage of one of America's most under rated bands. Cheers! .
I saw them a few times in Oxnard during the mid-80's, then my best friend at the time Mike Purdy became their bassist in 1987, so I ended up being their roadie for a few shows. Good times.
I have a cassette recording of a show they did in 1985 in a house in Champaign, Illinois at the University of Illinois. They were on their first tour. A local dude that setup shows got them but the place he planned to use fell through the week before so a friend volunteered the house she was renting. The show was incredible. I need to convert that tape to digital and post it on RUclips. Like others said, this version with Kyle was the best by far.
I saw this guys in long beach California on a parking garage of a building and I think it was called Fenders? they just released lake of fire album. great band thanks for the video
Wow just found this yesterday. I was at the show and can be seen in the video. Horizontal stripped shirt at 4:30 and 6:30 right up front. Carpenters Hall. The sound was very good and Kyle was sounding very much like the record, the band was tight. Oxnard Nardcore I don't think they got past 4 songs before the show was shutdown. Jerkoff's outside. Would love to get a high quality original of this video! I also had a tape of a live show in San Diego in 1988 recorded of the soundboard.
@@missdarleneW Excel was supposed to headline and like too many times they flaked and suddenly the cops show up and close the show for noise complaints? Odd for downtown and that venue, word was cops got called to save the Where's Excel questions.
I worked that show when the cops shut it down and the crowd was pissed at Tim Maze who went on the mike to shut it down!! I was stage right for most of the show!!!
@tweakpipe as commented above, Joey P was the first singer. Brandon came after. Kyle was ALWAYS in this band and wrote most of the music and lyrics and took over the vocal duties in 83. He was not part of the reformed Dr Know with Brandon in the late 90's until a few months ago. However look for Dr Know playing again soon...with the lineup in this clip actaully. (maybe not exactly, I cant tell if that is mike or john playing bass)
Justin Other Went to HS in that area around that time. Grew up going to shows in Nevada City/AVM. Dr. Know, DRI, Verbal Abuse (and Assault for that matter), DK's....Still have those flyers.Worked for Clear and Distinct Ideas posting/handing out show flyers for them, Still love this band to this day.
Was lucky enough to see them twice, once with Toxic Reasons, the second with the Bad Brains in Miami, Fl at the Cameo Theatre. Both with Kyle Toucher. Is he playing with anyone now?
Paul Schwartz I've seen Dr. Know about three times within a year. Last time was this month. Their facebook page is pretty active... Kyle is definately the master mind behind it. haha
Paul Schwartz Oh.. I'm in southern California. Nardfest is happening in August, going to be my first time going. From Louisiana it's a big trip of course but you'd get to see some great bands for two days :)
They played Wabash first which was two blocks from my house and I would walk to shows there. Then they played Carpenters Hall, which is this gig and was shut down during this set. Then they played Emerald Ballroom for the Wreckage in Flesh tour. That was on University Ave. and was shut down soon after.
This Island Earth is so tight. No Kyle....No Dr Know
hell of great band and talented guys……completely underrated in every way and by any means…..

You DR. KNOW it!!! Better than most hardcore/punk/crossover bands period. Always been one of my favorites and always been underrated.

Saw them this past Saturday with Brandon Cruz. No offense to BC but I am with you on this one.
Kyle's the man!
Don't bag on RKL those guys were/are tight and great muaicians
Even since 1985 I still can’t imagine that sinister voice coming out of a human being. I just can not match the voice to Kyle’s face!
The REAL Dr. Know.
Yes you got it!
That is a fact.
Absolutely
One of the greatest bands ever. Yes... ever.
I’m in there somewhere!

Fenders Ballroom , Long Beach CA.
@@hectorvee3260 Epic venue. Soooo many good bands. Too bad it's gone, will never be forgotten.
I was so happy every time I put my walkman on with plug in Jesus.
I dig the skate punk to Sabbath crossover. Long hairs in room full of
short hairs is pretty cool too.
Life Returns!
The sound and visual quality really makes this one 👌

I saw these guys in Lompoc, CA. in 1987, Killer show....until the cops showed up
Where did you see them in Lompoc? I grew up there and was a huge Dr. Know fan. I never knew they even played in the city of Lompton.
@@christophereverett2353 What year did you graduate? The played at Kelly Chaddik's barn by the mission.

I think I saw this lineup with Kommunity FK and PIL at the California Theater in San Diego around 1985/86.
YES YOU DID!!
So lucky 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👌🏽
Walk in a punker and walk out a metal head. Dr. Know did that.
Made the skinheads not go after the longhairs in the pit.

Still see dr know in LB and they havent slowed down a bit. They actually got faster in the later years
Ahhh. Sunn Beta head. This explains a lot about that heavy guitar tone had on the recordings, if that is indeed what he recorded through.
Love that sound
Holy Shit!
I was at the Grass Valley show

Was this show with Excel? I think it was.
I really can't remember. I know I filmed Excel twice but I thought it was somewhere else.
I didn't know it was all TRUE, every lyric. 😮
Hell yeah. Baf! Thanks!

Kyle is confirmed to be back playing with Dr. Know.

Yes, Sunn Beta lead on Plug In Jesus and This Island Earth.
sick dan armstrong! holy shit, headbanging tony black!
Joey P was their first but i don't think he was on any recordings.
Is that the same singer from the live 1984 at Cathay Hollywood that’s here on you tube?
@kuzuanus666... Yeah,I think it's Carpenters hall
tony black....tim harkins.....and kyle of course....I don't know whos on drums...larry white maybe.....
I seen them at Wabash hall and carpenters hall. Ministry of truth and tex and horsehead played that show
I only went to that show because Keith Morris likes Dr. Know, so I thought they must be good.

I think so.

In That House. On the album This Island Earth.
