    What a contribution to thrash metal these boys made but criminally overlooked. A huge cut above the other hardcore punk bands of their time in how they could play.

    • @mikepette4422
      @mikepette4422 3 года назад +8

      were they overlooked ? I dunno everyone who was around at this time knew who bad brains were and loved them. they were the daddy's of hardcore I mean this show is 1979 thats like a year into hardcore and they are playing CBGB's

      @@mikepette4422
      Bad Brains weren't overlooked at the time nor in the hardcore scene but it was their contribution to thrash metal that emerged about 5 years later that certainly was. This was just about the thrashiest thing kickin' around in 1979 and way more so than any of the metal bands that later shaped the style.Bad Brains had the musical proficiency and able to incorporate heavy rock elements to their high energy, full speed ahead delivery. Hence, the early similarity.

    CBGB stood for Country, BlueGrass, Blues. Since there was little demand for such music in New York city in the 70's the owner of the club decided to hire punk and New wave bands into the club because no other clubs were willing to book these types of bands so "CBGB's" became the first club to book punk and New wave bands in New York and the owner became quite wealthy!

    I wish i could have seen this. I was only 9 at the time.
    Thankfully one of the First shows i ever saw had them open for a band i only went to see because i heard they dressed up like Clockwork Orange. They weren't very good. But the band that opened up for them started off with reggae beats, and my dad being a marley fan i sorta knew what i was hearing.
    And meanwhile these black dudes were walking up from the crowd at the Karen Carpenter auditorium at CSULB ( her drum kit was on display) smoking and sharing big cone shaped joints, strapped on instruments and a drummer sat down and this wild dude screamed and was doing back flips. I never in my 16ish years saw anyone ever do anything like that, and that music. Never before or since ( maybe hearing walk among us 1st time) was i that moved.
    I bought ROAR at black hole records when it was on brea blvd soon after. The yellow cassette .
