+pitkane100 lol crazy how black people literally go and invent pretty much every modern genre and then get snubbed by the majority of the white population...seems like hip hop and jazz are the only genres they get their proper credit for
Been a fan for life. Had the pleasure of opening for h.r. with dubb agents in Poughkeepsie December 2015. A very humble man that was actually interested in all the supporting acts and the meanings behind their songs. I had lost one of my best friends two days before the show and had considered not playing at all. H.r. shared some wisdom and a good cry with me and helped me grieve and express my grief too.
Me and my dad used to always listen to Bad Brains, Sublime, and Bob Marley. We may not always get along. But at least we both have an incredible taste in music.
What is so great about the internet is you can discover new artists and old artists you missed over the years. I've been a huge Beastie Boys fan since I first heard Licensed to Ill in the mid 1980's, and heard the Beastie Boys mention Bad Brains before (Michael Diamond and Adam Yauch met at a Bad Brains concert in late 1980. ), but I never looked them up until today....so here I am listening to Bad Brains for the first time! Sorry I am so late to the party! Great tune. Time for me to check out the rest!
the earlier records are the best ones, full of adrenaline and high speed. later they got more into the reggae stuff and oddly enough, metal. Love them anyways, everything they made till the 90s was gold.
I’ve enjoyed the Bad Brains forever with HR and Earl Hudson, but when this came out with Israel and Mackie, this definitely didn’t suck and it actually became my favorite Bad Brains album. Almost 28 years later, I still enjoy it just the same.
I saw them at the Palladium in Los Angeles when they toured for Rise.. They were just great live. Had the drummer from the Cro-mags too. That guy is good man.
What an awesome, energetic song, with powerful guitar leads and drum beats . .. time has truly come, my friends, to wake up and rise ... together, collectively as one ... for a new way of living and be-ing ... 💡💗🌻🙌
Every die hard Bad Brains fan dislikes this because H.R. is NOT the singer, Israel Joseph I is. Israel Joseph I kills the lead vocals here completely. After I heard this I was like H.R. Who? Blasphemy maybe but Israel just kills it here. What a beast on lead vocals. And Mackie Jayson, former Cro-Mags drummer beats the snot out if his drums but never loses the beat once in the process either. A coiled viper beast. And I remember everyone kept saying the Grunge movement heralded the end of the guitar solo, and yet, Dr. Know just shredded the fuck out of a rather dangerous guitar solo on this track, speaking of beasts. Blasphemy to the purists, maybe, but those of us who love music and love Bad Brains music love the fuck out of Rise. This song was the biggest reason for that. Even 25 years after its release in 1993, it still sounds like a monster in 2018. This track never gets old. Ever. Not for me anyway.
Nice response... this song straight jams! No one can be who they aren't. Fans shouldn't compare or expect any artist to stand still, not move on, or evolve as artists. No artist is obligated to anyone but their art. Bad brains had to move forward. We are fortunate they choose to keep on keeping on. I love HR.... since I saw him solo in 1986. Saw orginal bad brains 1988. Later bad brains with Mackie ( brilliant) with the old lead singer of faith no more. Your comments inspired me express gratitude and blessings for the bad brains generosity of spirit. Don't lose sight of the mission statement PMA! Bad brains thanks for confronting bias, risking for the fight against the oppressors, and spiritual gangsterism wisdom of God! Haters, non believers, or those who think artists work for you.... it's not about you. Never was and never will be. Your delusions are the least of concerns for artists... it's your work.
I disagree. I love Bad Brains and everything they've written with and without H.R maybe dumbasses that don't realize there is a whole band making up Bad Brains might feel the way you say.
