Gosh, I’m 34 now, living in Indonesia. I just found out this band after i saw Thomas Pridgen’s t-shirt. It blow my mind!!! Wish i discover them years earlier.
This is the first Bad Brains song I ever listened to, which was today. I didn't like it. But it was stuck in my head all day, and I guess now I like it. Thats weird.
Never saw this until today and I bought the CD when it first came out in 1995! My introduction to Bad Brains.....why wasn't this video played much? Love it and still love the album....played it just yesterday!
Saw them first time on this tour, quickness and many times after, hr alwas brought it when i went, saw hr solo before this this at lamores brooklyn and lots of times in the 90s at the wetlands nyc, he was always hanging out downstairs and smoking with anyone and talking crazy, back when it wasnt a big deal to smoke weed at the wetlands
bad brains are awesome !!! 😈😈☺ . what they do is believing in thereself and there music . wish i had see them live in the earleyr days . such a passif agresifitty mixed with happiness and hope . fucking great !!!!
Haha. I smoked a fat spliff with HR in small room full of several others including a few of my friends and their bandmates as we were all gathered backstage at the Masquerade music club in Atlanta, Georgia waaaay back sometime in the late 1980s, I believe. I wish I could recall the exact year. That show was so incredibly intense and the stage and venue was so utterly tiny.
@eatherdrive HIGH FIVE! Without Bad Brains there wouldn't be a shit load of groups! It's cool, my son thought Carlos Santana was a "New Guitarist" on the scene at one point. Don't get too angry. Hell, some folks think Stevie Ray Vaughn is the king of Blues Guitar.
This album was released on Madonna's Maverick Records (she founded the label and signed them). Teamed back with producer Ric Ocasek of The Cars who did the Brains' classic early records. They toured with Beastie Boys, until HR smashed a guy in the face with a mic stand.
Yeah, I'm reading H.R.'s book right now. H.R. was the bands greatest asset, and what really also kept them from reaching stardom. He refused to sign record contracts their entire career until the Maverick one, he quit the band more so many times, and he got in fights. He didn't like doing rock/metal/punk after the first album but really only wanted to do Reggae, but it was Daryl and Dr. Know who wanted to keep doing the punk/rock thing.
HR is one troubled individual who seems more at peace when he's in his reggae side band. But when he's with the BRAIN'S he seems like he's out of place and fighting demons.
@@michaelj.ingram7421 I was at that show, in Boston. It was insane because there was a rumor that the Beastie Boys ( who were there ) were going to play after Bad Brains. After the incident and the band all walked off stage, we all stood around for another half hour or so waiting to see the Beasties. When they finally kicked us all out it got even weirder, because there was a crowd gathering outsside waiting o get in for the club's gay dance party! What a nutty night.
I feel ya. Finding it difficult to relate with my boyfriend on this subject. He's a musician & would appreciate Bad Brains. But has no interest in listening to, or learning about them. He's beautifully insightful. I believe he'd receive blessings & enlightenment with the influence of Bad Brain's legendary talent.
Well during the first wave of punk there was an all black punk band called "pure hell" they made it on (the equivalent to the billboards top 100 songs in the USA) on of their song made it to number 10 in the UK. No one really knows about them before they got signed the producers wanted them to switch to making Motown instead of punk. So when they refused the producer threw away all of their recorded music (because they had the Rights to it) But the story gets better Eventually Henry Rollins from black flag discovered one of their tracks and bought the Rights to their music back and helped them get inducted into the African American museum of pop culture
Listening to their albums in order from the oldest to the newest, it is easy to see how they have evolved wonderfully. After Quickness and Rise, I don't think it is wrong to say that this album is one of their peaks. I hope that we will be able to hear their current state sometime in the future.
Man in 2017. I was invited to go meet them at the red room lounge by someone who's keeping the punk rock scene alive (johnae Whitaker) she would bring so many punk bands to our area. In 2017 I opted to go to trashbash instead of meeting the lead singer of bad brain's. I will forever kick myself in the ass over that.
What a mega force to be reckoned with god of love, love is the answer . Bad brains, will always rock for light with the quickness and still even as veterns in this thing called music will and can blow any new Jack butt off the stage cuz i and i will survive and the meek shall inherit the earth time too build a nation. Time too fly the soul craft and heed the prophet's eye when the sacred love starts to share her secret 77 and when she is calling you, you better pick up and leave this Babylon only to find yourself returning to heaven. Know it was this thunder and lightning known as the band bad brains from the district of Colombia who were once banned that made all the differnce and remember to keep your p.m.a. (positive mental atittude). Sail on cuz I too am a member of the f.v.k. (fearless campus killers) these are Coptic times indeed.
One of the best albums ever. A collection of punk some reggae and insane thrash metal. Where was Bad Brains Grammy when they released this album?
Meh, disagree
@Chalkdust Quickness was the peak IMHO.
Madonna paid for this record
No, not even respecting that. I against I, self titled bad brains, rock for light, rise, or black dots but not this!
@@thepersonontheroofonmath2246 Sorry - Rise was the weakest album they put out - but definitely, one of the greatest bands ever.
The most underrated Bad Brains album ever! Yeah,I said It. I love this fucking album.
Dale M. Haskell underrated for sure
People hate on later BB way too much. Sure, it ain't the ROIR sessions but it still kicks ass.

@@scottistrad it's your personal taste. I do love some of their earlier stuff too though.
I like their metal sound more than harDCore punk or whatever

Totally great positive Hit!
That is one of the best musics and sounds of "BAD BRAINS".

Please don’t butcher their name like that. Bad Brains are a legendary music group, not an arbitrary, singular, possessive noun.
