I am highly allergic to 6 perfumes and my hospital dermatologist told me that the perfume in cosmetic products often changes and you have no idea, so he said I have to patch test every time I buy a new product (even one I've used before) as the formulation might cause another big allergy. I was amazed they are allowed to get away with that!

My dad had the same problem. Had to use one of two different detergents, had to cycle deodorant soaps to keep from developing a reaction, couldn't wear any regular deodorant. Not fun, and DEFINITELY should be a required disclosure

@@smoxthybweh they aren't even required to tell you what's in their blends because of "trade secret" clauses. Which means that I can't get allergy tested for specific ingredients and have to be avoid ALL scented/dyed soaps, lotions, and laundry detergents. :(

That's why the EU (and formerly the UK, as it's about to scrapped here) has cosmetic safety regulations with allergens having to be declared and identified on the label.

Wow! That soap batter was really like "I will be soap....NOW!" Always great to turn the unexpected into a teaching moment. As a side note, my soaps arrived today and I can't wait to give them to my mom (I have to, though, since her birthday isn't until September 19th)...but I was so excited, and so pleased with the soaps, that I put in another order an hour ago to grab another Narnia soap and take advantage of the bundle sale. LOL! I went from "They're so nice, but do I really need soap?" to "Take My Money, Katie! I need ALL the Royalty Soaps soap!" in the roar of a lion!

Katie, one of the reasons I continue to watch every video of yours is that you are truly authentic through and through. You are living a beautiful life example for your kids. Showing your "fails" while laughing at the process AND questioning what went wrong, acting like a true scientist to figure it out while NOT screaming or throwing a tantrum or totally just *losing it* is absolutely amazing. You show up for your audience and your family every single day. Taking the risk to mix your first batch of a particular design "live" on camera with not too many edits/outtakes exemplifies authenticity. I LOVE IT! I never worry that you're trying to "hide" anything from your customers or be instagram perfect all of the time. Thank you for all that you do, and keep on rocking it!

Is it bad that some of my favorite RS videos are your 'fails'? I just love the way you handle it, and just that you'll put up these videos even when they go horribly wrong, it feels so authentic and like we really get to see 'behind the scenes' instead of just the best batches. I can't believe how fast this set up, before you even poured it! It's really crappy that they can do that, just change the recipe without disclosing it... I would think there would be some regulations there, as an ingredient that gets used in body products.

I used to work for a fragrance manufacturer, and I can guarantee there was a formula change for MANY fragrances. Due to the ban on imports from china (xianjing), the lack of sunflower oil on market because of the Ukraine situation, and just the general rising costs there have been a LOT of cuts to minimize input of costly materials, switches to synthetics where possible because they're cheaper and more readily available, etc. All that can result in major changes to fragrances especially because they are rarely needed to certify as organic, all natural, etc. So I'm not surprised this is going on and it messed up your soap batch, in fact, if anything I'm surprised it hadn't happened sooner.

It's not a fail if you learn something from it. Bonus that it can still be used by Eco Soap Bank. I've been soap making for about a year now and not had a seized soap yet. I know my time will come though! Fingers crossed today is not that day. Love your videos and your energy Katie.

Just got my Narnia soap today and I love it. The tobacco and amber scent is one of my favorites ever since I tried the Sherlock's Study soap. Which reminded me of some of the older videos and soaps I purchased back then and I'm wondering if you're ever going to make another Sweet Mandarin and Chili Pepper scented soap?
Thank you for showing us the unexpected result of your soap making today. I'm sorry that this one didn't work out and hope that the rest of your batches turn out!

I had a super accelerating batch last time I made soap. It was a repeat of a past recipe too. Things happen! :)

Thanksgiving dinner. Mashed peas, shredded turkey, and gravy.
The bar at 12:55 looks neat! Like a grassy field with a mountain in the back and a hazy morning sky.
Edit: or on a 2nd glance, even perhaps a biege/light salmon Krakken rising from the murky churning green waters (sometimes people draw ocean water more green than blue, so, there ya go)

Never a dull moment making soap! I'm about to make a batch of pumpkin soap for a friend to take to her sister's baby shower. I just hope that my soap won't try my patience and sanity like this one!

You are amazing!! It's hard to get my soaps made because I spend so much time watching your videos! I wish you and your family business the very best in 2023! I appreciate the fact that you not only share your successes but also you're brave enough to show the flops that most soap makers experience at least once or twice, lol!! I learned the hard way with beeswax soaps! Lol!! Love your attitude and your sunny personality! Better get busy and make some soap now! Love from West Tennessee!

Wow! That was exciting! I have never had a batch seize. So watching this was a lesson! I have been making soap for over 10 years and personally never seen brick o'soap like that! I felt awful for you, but your right, it's going to a good home to a great causr.
I personally have a lot of end pieces that need to go! This sounds like a wonderful solution!

I gotta say, the beige part looks like delicious caramel fudge when you cut it in chunks from the tub. I'd eat that 😆 Now, I feel like having caramel or maple butter 🤤

I'd love to see Katie explain her process with these kind of unexpected outcomes. This doesn't happen often, but like, will the fragrance supplier reimburse if it was labelled as soap-safe? If not, are these stubborn fragrances something you can utilize for candles?

OMG, changing that fragrance oil really caused some strange things to happen. 🤨I have never seen a soap move so fast, that sucker had track shoes on for real 🏃‍♂🏃‍♀🏃‍♂🏃‍♀👟👟👟 . I really enjoyed U showing us this. Thanks for sharing. WOW

I'm thinking of a quote I've heard a long time ago (it won't be exactly word for word). You only fail if you don't learn from the obstacle that tripped you.
I saw a similar fail on Ophelia's channel recently and she said she learned from the experience to recheck the online info each time she buys new stock from the experience.

...I still have that soap from last year's purchase. ...I have a _lot_ of soap I've purchased from last year still. _It takes a little bit to get through them all when it's just me using them and I'm ADDICTED._ Rarely can I resist purchasing at least a couple soaps a month. I'm hoping to repurchase this design!!
This is probably one of the more fantastic fails you've shown off. It gave you a fantastic opportunity to chat about minefields of the business and other stuff that can go wrong though!

Well, could have been a tragedy, but you have a positive in the end. Soap failures happen and even though it sucks, showing these things can help others see how to deal with the problem

I used this last year also, but the usage rate was much lower and I didn't experience terrible acceleration. This year I used a slightly higher usage rate and it did accelerate. It got pretty warm, too! I didn't plan anything that I needed a loose batter for, so my design worked, thank goodness!

I still have that soap from last year with the acorn on top. It's my favorite soap and all the colors match my decor in the bathroom. I will definalty buy this again to replace last years.
