ABOUT CARPOOL:
Carpool is an online show hosted by Robert Llewellyn (Red Dwarf, Scrapheap Challenge, Fully Charged), who gives a wide variety of passengers a lift in a hybrid or electric car and they talk. It's as simple as that. Previous guests include Stephen Fry, David Mitchell, Charlieissocoolike and Jim Jeffries.
Two sci-fi legends in the same internal-combustion propelled land-shuttle!
This was filmed 11 years ago and it was roughly the time my ex was at the university of Huddersfield, she saw him on the grounds and shouted in her excitement "Look it's Patrick Swayze" still makes laugh too this day 😂😂😂
Was that the point at which she became your ex? 😂
I didn't think I could like Patrick Stewart more than I already did. Then I find out he's a Red Dwarf fan.
Yah he loves it. I had the same feeling he was at a 10 but bumped to 11.1 after the Red Dwarf fanboi.
I get the impression a person could strike up a conversation with Patrick Stewart about the most boring inane topic you could think of and he would elevate the level of conversation to something almost brilliant.
I wonder if Patrick Stewart would be willing to do a satnav voice. "Engage left turn in 50 metres" "Turn right in 10 metres. Make it so." "Number One, turn back you're going the wrong way!" Stuff like that. :)
Yes, that would be brilliant. Or comedy driving instructions. "Turn the key, foot on the clutch, and engage. If you wish for your passenger to drive, turn to him/her and say 'you have the bridge'."
My bathroom door has a banner saying "Ready Room" on it. xD
I can never look at Picard in the same way whenever he says that in Star Trek.
***** VERY funny!!! I LOL'ed. for real.
you are so totally right
Maybe someone should inform Sir Patrick about this idea... perhaps it could be a fundraiser thing. We could raise money to help domestic violence victims and when/if we reached a certain target he might make the satnav voice thing. That would be so totally awesome.
James Corden totally ripped this whole format off, but made it more insipid and corny, and it's worth megabucks. Still, only makes me appreciate this even more.
By the way Sir Stewart, I was incredibly impressed with your caring and loving response to the lady who asked you about domestic abuse. Having come from an abusive childhood myself, I'm glad to see someone stand up for us.
Did Patrick Stewart experience it also?
Sir Patrick Stewart is one of the best actors known having a great variety of types of movies he played. Evertime i'm pleased in hits very good and clear British language which is fantastic to understand for foreigns. and he ist a realy spontaneus charachter.
"turn left in 100 yards, this far no further!!"
"They eat my trees KILL IT." Unexpected blood lust from Sir Patrick xD
I haven't heard so much bloodlust in his voice since Star Trek First Contact.
Starfleet2360 Never met director Bullock?
My grandma does the same thing. "Nasty squirrels, eating up my avocado trees!"
D:
He remembers the time they tried to make him into one of them. The Squirrel Queen was a right bitch.
In my humble opinion Patrick Stewart is without doubt one of the best actors of all time. I saw him first on Star Trek: TNG but came to truly appreciate his talent when watching his Shakespearian performances and portrayal of Capt. Ahab.
He is an all around wonderful human and I hope to meet him some day.
He is not human. He is a mutant. Gee! Watch some X-men for historical accuracy! :)
Sorry Walter. What I actually meant was that he has wonderful human qualities. We need more mutants like him. :D
I Claudius is always worth watching too, great mini-series!
Watched this last night as I lay in bed trying to relax and get to sleep. I could listen to Patrick Stewarts voice forever. LOVE him! I lived in L.A. in the nineties when he was living there and got to see him at a Trek Convention. Did I say I LOVE him? I do.
One of the best interviews with him, no studio to act for, nothing to plug, just him been him.
I just stumbled upon this on RUclips courtesy of the algorithm. Enjoying it. I saw Sir Patrick in The Tempest after it had finished in the park and ended up on Broadway. It’s still to this day the most amazing thing I’ve seen on stage or film. So powerful and brilliantly done.
Possibly one of the most delightful interviews I think I've ever seen - thank you.
The fact that you got Patrick Stewart here is just AWESOME!!! Patrick Stewart is among the MOST RATIONAL, most humble and human(e) , MOST INTERESTING persons that I continue to admire in this era.
Patrick Stewart . . . what a fantastic man. I could listen to him for hours!!
what a pair of absolute SCI-FI LEGENDS ! respect to both of you for providing joy to people the world over .
Give thanks to the county of Yorkshire for providing us with talent of Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Michael Palin, Dame Judy Dench, Brian Blessed (Who definitely deserves a knighthood), Ade Edmondson, Malcolm McDowell.... And I suppose Jeremy Clarkson and Captain Slow should get a spot on the podium...
I hope Patrick Stewart lives forever.
Two very gorgeous guys. Their smiles just melt me.
Great episode of course. Stewart's greatest line of course was "there were two old geezers in the boat - me and my girlfriend's father"
Best and most natural conversation with Sir Patrick Steward I've seen. Very relaxed and unpretentious..
when he was pretentious
Driving around talking to Patrick Stewart on a beautiful English summer's day in the countryside. Is this what heaven looks like?
It would have been more entertaining if they were in character.
Picard: Where am I? What planet is this? Are you an artificial lifeform?
Kryten: Indeed I am sir, I am a mechanoid or rather, I should be. I don't understand.
Picard: Where are you taking me? Am I a hostage? Computer, end program. Picard to bridge...
Kryten: I see a squirrel. Have you had lunch sir?
more season please lol
anicetune Craig Charles first time acted naturally, and the second video looked like he was doing Lister the whole time so check those out.
Watching for the first time. What a great show and fantastic guest and chat.
Holy crap! I just realized that the host was the android in RED DWARF!
yeah. He was also the DivaDroid sales representative.
x1StapleGun He also played Bongo, the Admiral of the Fleet in the Space Corp in the Alternate reality with Ace Rimmer.
Laurence Ferrett Well smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
uh yea...
10:44 Stewart’s reaction to Robert having a car parking space😂😂😂😂
I just started in the University this year and Sir Patrick Stewart retired from the position of University Chancellor. We now have the Duke of York. Everyone is so annoyed.
+Lazy Spark Isn't life cruel?
+Lazy Spark first world problems. ;)
***** Losing your phone charger is a first world problem. Missing the chance to speak to Sir Patrick Stewart is like God coming down from heaven and bitch slapping you in the face.
Oh yeah if you actually get to talk to the person then yes, that's huge. Blame me for being American, I didn't understand. ;)
+Lazy Spark I'm at Huddersfield 2, not only have I missed the chance this year due to him stepping down as chancellor but I missed him at not 1, but 2 open days, I was very very sad :/
Fascinating. Completely reaffirms my admiration and respect for a very brave and brilliant actor. Thanks for making this.
Look at that Mr. Stewart is an average person. Every time I see programs such as this I am dumb founded how nice great actors can be.
+John Hardin Jesus, they're only people!
Hamlet with Tennant and Sir Patrick is by far my favourite performance of Shakespeare to date. Magnificent work by all involved.
What a neatly spent half hour! Thank for this, Robert!
I first saw you host a show when the old (and, in my opinion, the single best version of the all) Scrapheap Challenge aired on Discovery Channel. Great stuff ever since!
I do like it how Sir Patrick Stewart changes his tone of voice to a more "Picardish", bellowing timbre at 12:10, when he briefly enumerates the various parts of a Star Trek set. :)
Cheers from this part of Europe!
What I really love about this is the informal feel and flow of it. no Q&A or performance. you get a chance to see the people as they actually are. What interests them, what annoys (in this case, squirrels apparently) and just how they talk when it is person to person. What an awesome idea!
This and the Stephen Fry episode are my favorites!! Thanks for posting!
The sun is shining in the UK! What a wonderful day!
Patrick should just put a camera in his car, and every day when he's driving he could just talk about whatever... put it on TV.... instant gold.
"You know, I once had a pair of... green socks and... (just let the cyclist by here) and... my dog ate one of them. Swear to God." Stuff like that. Gold.
I grew up in Huddersfield and everyone from there always has such lovely things to say about the man, as is mentioned here he's Chancellor of the Uni of Huddersfield which is usually a ceremonial position but he does a lot of engagement, as well as still attending Huddersfield Town matches on occasion. What a legend
no way, he lived 17 YEARS in USA? and still managed to keep that wonderful accent
Well he is from Yorkshire, but his accent here was one he got from drama school...though when relaxed it tends to come out more.
i love his subtle humor. it's almost effortless. one of my favorite tv/film actors. he has such a way of turning a phrase. can't wait to see what he comes out with next - IMBD has a few projects listed.
Could listen to Patrick Stewarts voice all day. Great video too.
I love British entertainment. This is such a great idea for a show; casual, relaxed, yet still very entertaining for people who like legitimate interviews. I only wish they were longer.
I wouldn't be able to function if Patrick was in my car. I'd be like, "I have friggin Capt. Picard" sitting in my car."
Engage first gear.
VaporheadATC what about director Bullock?
He'd be like .. send her into warp drive
Sir Patrick stewart one of the real actors that is a true gentleman his eloquence and professionalism really inspires me to be a better person
Could we just sneakily clone him, I don't really want my children living in a world without Patrick Stewart.
The gentlemen Patrick Stewart seems very down to earth.
This would be funny if Robert Llewellyn was dressed and playing Kryten while he was driving the star bug car from the last Red Dwarf episode.
Wow this is so cool. Red Dwarf and Star Trek TNG are staples of my childhood. I love them both dearly.
I can't believe RUclips has never recommended these videos before
four years and I had enver seen any of this vids???!?!?!?! I am ashamed of calling myself a Red Dwarf/Star Trek fan :(
this show is a hidden gem , I don't know why i haven't seen it before this , . its great .
Waiting for him to say "engage."
This is an incredible idea! after a little while it feels like your just in a car with a famous person, its just so naturally relaxed. Its only after i finished watching i realized i hadn't actually been part of that journey. Surprised these haven't got more views.
Damn it, this is realy good show. people become so human when u see people like this.
Mr. Stewart,
I've been a fan of you and your body of work since TNG first aired back in 1987.
Your tact and eloquence never ceases to inspire and impress me.
You are truly in a very exclusive class...if not one by yourself.
By the way...
I second the notion that you do voice work for navigational systems because while your voice is firm and authorative it is also at the same time soothing which would allow people to find their way more safely and with fewer incidents.
that was absolutely fascinating
I cannot begin to describe how much respect I have for Patrick Stewart. The man is capable of doing Shakespeare flawlessly and performing brilliantly in dramatic roles such as Captain Piccard in Star Trek & Professor X in the X-Men films but...he doesn't get so smug that he's got his head up his own ass. When you look at his resume it's amazing to think that he's spent a lifetime doing amazing work but he was still willing to do voice work on American Dad! Just that alone says so much about him.
i want to see more of Patrick on this kind of thing
can't believe it s been 10 yrs!
Then later Sir Patrick told Robert about his screenplay where all the clothes fall off and by the time the women have put them back on... he's seen everything.
I can't listen to Patrick speak now without expecting him to suddenly say "..but I've seen everything". I remember talking like that back when I was about 10, when my friends and I used to peer through a crack in the wall of the girls' changing room.
One of thems bending over.
Sounds like that Kenny Everett sketch
@@athendemosh8001 and i ride off..
on the grass
This has to be the most brilliant idea I've seen for an interview show. No studio. No audience. Stimulus of motion and outside world action. These conversations seem so much more real. Why have I not heard of this before?
Al B it was when the Internet was all that, now Internet is basically tv
Robert Llewellyn: "Squirrel"
Patrick Stewart: "Engage!"
Great episode. I love Patrick for all of his works, especially "The Next Generation" and "Dune".
I'm surprised the Daily Mail hasn't run with a "Patrick Stewart Hates Squirrels - Killing them would "make [his] morning" revealed in shocking new confession!" story yet.
This is very relaxing, two brilliant british accents chatting quietly, the ambient noise of the car and the countryside rolling along... I just might watch all of this series...
He just keeps talking and talking in one long incredibly unbroken sentence moving from topic to topic so that no-one has a chance to interrupt; it's really quite hypnotic.
This is such an under appreciated comment... 😂
This was great, i could listen to Patrick Stewart all day just talking about random events from his life all day.
he needs to get Bruce Dickinson on here
as long as there's a large supply of cocaine I'm sure Bruce would agree
i love him, and i dont even know him. why is that? he is just lovely.
um Kryten and Picard, why havent i watched this til now
Patrick Stewart is awesome. His voice just resounds authority, when he speaks, it commands the utmost attention. Plus he's just a cool guy.
A true Great Britain.....
Briton
This was a privilege to watch.
what if patrick stewart really acts like Director Bullock from American Dad O_O
I can't get over how fascinating that was... perhaps because the actors are so familiar in other roles, and they're both such good people. Patrick Stewart is such an interesting human being.
I cant believe i watched this from start to end :D but hey a Patrick Steward fan what can u do :P btw 32 ppl dont know what a living legends is!
I could listen to Patrick Stewart all the live long day. He just gets better all the time.
2:20
"You motherfuckers are going to kill all my trees!"
he was my chancellor and had lucnh with him...a very generous man, and wondeful to talk to. We praise you sir
I've always said, "Right", "Yeah", or "Uh huh" to someone who's talking. I thought it showed I was actively listening and showed understanding in what they were saying. I know the gentleman driving thinks the same way, but after listening to this interview, I may not do it again. It comes off as being bored or rushing the person who's talking. As if you're saying, "Right, get to the point.", though, I may just be noticing it because I do it myself. I've had my Dad say things like, "You know all about it already, huh?" when I say, "Right" after he says something. I thought it was just him being an ass but maybe it's me. D:
***** I think interrupting would be obviously rude, but not saying anything wouldn't be would it? I mean if he were not paying attention and just staring out the window, sure, but making the appropriate head and mouth movements. Like if he were to give a nod or a smile, at the right times, then I wouldn't assume that as being rude. I almost feel that it's a more polite way to interact, because you're not stepping on their story with sound.
+Corey Carnes It's a basic tenet of communication when listening. Sound is part of communication, yes?
This is awesome. For one, I'm a fan of Sir Patrick Stewart, but I also like this low key, non-chalant, intimate, friendly reality conversation format. Ingenious!
think the late show host stole the idea from this show
OMG probably XD
Fantastic video. Could listen to Patrick all day, and of course I love Robert as well.
Surprised that Stewart was a keen water skier though but if Brian Blessed teaches us anything, that age sometimes doesn't slow you down provided you have the will power.
What about Dune did he forget he was in that?
What a great show, the host actually let's the guest speak. Some of the greatest chats have been on car rides.
going to an environmental thing and he wants the driver to run over a squirrel. :(
Loved him in Excalibur, he was perfect in that.
What a great interview showing the many sides of an actor with a distinguished career.
gotta love Patrick Stewart..his voice..his acting..his lovely bald head hehe. never heard of this series before but might watch more here. awesome :)
I could listen to this man talk about absolutely anything, all day long.
It was fun to stumble across this. Two very nice guys.
I still enjoy Red Dwarf and Star Trek NG to this day.
Hard to believe this was recorded 10 years ago.
Doesn't time fly.
That car rumble though...
I'm glad I found this channel! Wish we had this in the States.
how old is this series? james corden you have some splaining to do
Ahh the alternate Lister and Data! Love this.
I enjoyed this. TY guy on the late show thread who shared this link
His voice is so good I could listen to anything he says
This is the greatest thing I have seen in my entire life.
He reminds me so much of my grandfather I just love it
Sir Patrick Stewart, you are an amazing actor, and a gentleman. I salute you.
Could listen to his voice alllll day.
