UPDATE: I'm trying to work with RUclips Creator Support to figure out why some of you are having strange language issues with this video. Some have said that refreshing the video will eventually get it to English. I'm sorry, once I have an update I will post here.* Hey all, I had to take this down after my initial upload because of a strange glitch where people were only seeing the video in German. So I re-uploaded and hope I fixed the issue. Thank you for supporting the channel over the past year, excited for what's coming in year 2! Thank you for making that clear...thought I was the one glitching! I did watch the first time round and don't believe I was hearing it in German! Keep up the good videos! Your voice is very soothing to listen to! ❤😊
You shouldn't have to apologize for not telling where you are. MOST of us, totally understand! I personally couldn't get to those places even if I knew where! I'd rather leave it up to the experts, like you, to show us what you find. I have watched your channel for almost a year, so have a happy anniversary! I thoroughly appreciate and enjoy your videos and hope you continue to do these!
Can’t agree more, no one complains that you can’t touch ancient masterpieces in a museum because your denied access to the spaces they are kept in, this is no different just because it’s not in a building. The fact it’s on public ground does not mean we have any “right” to know where to find these ancient master works of their day.
"You shouldn't have to apologize for not telling where you are" I agree totally. Although I suspect that the vast majority of subscribers would tread lightly if visiting one of these locations, it really only takes one or two people to ruin them for everyone else.
Thanks for your hard work. Fantastic job on all your camera footage. Congratulations on the year and enjoy watching each show. Cheers from Sydney Australia. Have a great Christmas. 👍 thanks mate 👍
Those who are familiar with the American west can recognize every single place he has gone to. So far every place he has shown in his videos, I could give you an exact coordinate. And 99% of the places he shows are well known and well documented by archeologists. To make them look mystical or a "legend" is ridiculous. There is no legend. These people lived here as real people. These same places had been written about in dozens of articles and many books. It is very obvious he does not reveal even general locations is because he wants to create an image of mysterious secrecy and some kind of "I am a hero" image. Deceiving for the viewers, not to mention it is wrong to not give credit to the people who explored these places before him. Like the cowboy who preserved this very canyon. Why not tell his story?
Been here from the beginning, didnt even realize you're at 380K as of today. Congrats! As an indigenous pueblo descendant, appreciate your respect for the lands you explore.

The DD's videos are educational and quite fascinating. One of the best uses of YT I have seen. We get to see places that we are unlikely ever to visit. Particularly like the excellent drone camerawork where we see vistas that have remained essentially unchanged for thousands of years. I could never understand my son's obsession with the desert and rock climbing, until I watched your channel. Now I am obsessed! Great channel, thank you!🎉❤❤
I came to your channel for education reasons. Been a lurker for quite some time and I find it not only calming but easy to understand. A distant first cousin quite a few generations removed was Dr. Michael Steck, former Indian Agent for the Chiricahua and Superintendent of Indian Affairs appointed by President Lincoln. He had great respect for the Apache nation, respect was mutual until the death of Cochise family members by miners and the slaying of Colorada by the Army. Shortly after was the US Civil War. Dr. Steck opposed the reservation for Navajo nation because it lacked adequate size, agricultural needs were little to none, and he argued that the land should be on their own land. It was ignored and was a disaster for all involved. Thank you for teaching me a thing or two along your journey.
To think that whole families climbed those cliffs, young and old folks and the young men hauling the wood up to make their dwellings. They were remarkable people. Congrats on your one year anniversary. As always a great video and exploration.

Andrew, congrats! Your community has grown so rapidly because of the quality and content of your videos. We are simply a mirror… Thank you for sharing your life and knowledge, and for letting this crone to vicariously live her youthful dreams… (Anthropology with focus on ancient civilizations of the Americas)
Congratulations, Andrew! 🎉😊 It's a challenge to comprehend how people lived 100s or 1000s of years ago...why they lived the way they did and the choices they made to live there. They lived in harmony and symmetry with the rocks, trees, and streams. We can't fathom their choices, but we can appreciate and respect their ingenuity and dignity.
Come on, be real. If they lived in Harmony they wouldn’t have exhausted their resources and left. They also didn’t practice “leave no trace”. They also didn’t have a choice where they lived. They were limited to places with water and enough fertile ground to farm. Plus they needed a lot of animals to kill to feed themselves. Heck, we cherish their efforts to deface nature. 🤣 The truth is that they did the best they could with what they had. They lived extremely difficult, short and violent lives. They made war upon other groups who violated what they thought of as their hunting territory and they took slaves and raped the captured women to replenish their bloodlines. In very difficult times most of these groups resorted to cannibalism according to the archeological evidence. Ever wonder why we don’t find many Native American skeletal remains? My ancestors were the Powhatan Confederacy and we were wiped off the face of the earth by the Iroquois. To understand the Native American you first have to get rid of all that rubbish about how perfect and peaceful their existence was. There’s a reason they built their dwelling high up on cliffs that were almost impossible to get to.
30:04 CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ONE YEAR. YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR WIFE WITH YOU YOU GUYS MAKE SUCH A CUTE AND AWESOME COUPLE. YOUR JOURNEYS TAKE US TO PLACES WILL NEVER SEE THANK YOU FOR BRINGING OUR EYES THIS IS AWESOME PLEASE KEEP IT UP LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT ONE THANK YOU AGAIN
Another video with unmatched natural beauty, thank you Andrew and congratulations on your 1st anniversary. Glad you flew the drone near the beginning, the foliage colors are stunning. Love the finger marks in the mortar, such a connection to the ancient people.
Happy Anniversary! I just turned 70, and I so enjoy your videos. I have seen them all!!You are taking me places that I would love to see in person, thank you. Love your channel! I’m an avid hiker living in the SW, but I never get anywhere as deep as you do, you really find the most amazing places, and you take us with you. Thanks for doing such great work!
Those of us who would respect and leave untouched... I am no longer able to go where I used to go; do what I used to do. You take me with you. And thus far have left no stone unseen. You feed what once was. And I give thanks. 🙌🏼
WOW ! First anniversary 😘 and you're this good already 😁 You're one of a kind and so appreciate you NOT giving out locations !!! Reached the end of my long distance hiking and I don't miss one video you do. Your hiking skills are amazing 🙏
Love your content. Thank you for taking all of us along on your adventures! Anyone else get nervous watching him climb up the steep parts? Be careful out there brother.
Congratulations on the 1 year anniversary! I have to say that your channel is my favorite and I so look forward to seeing your videos. Your narration is superb and so calming, I could listen to your voice forever. Good luck with your future.
Congrats on the one year anniversary! As someone who doesn't live in north america (central european here), I'm stunned by the landscape/emptiness of people and of course the ruins you show in every video. Here in europe we just don't have anything like that - lots of historical sites and aweinspiring ruins, but all those things are very, and I mean very, different to the part of the world you show us! Thank you for your topnotch videos, respectfull appreciation of the past and good luck for the next year of exploration! I can't wait to see on what trips you're taking us next ;)
I so very much enjoy living vicariously your adventures. I have lived near and have only briefly visited many similar areas that you display when, in the past, I explored and hunted the SW USA. I am so appreciative of the technology that allows you to share what you see with me, and I guess others. I so miss the beautiful vistas and scenes of years gone by. Age has robbed me of the ability and opportunity to see them again personally. You allow me to do so again. Be certain that you share these moments with those that you love.
That's one of the most stunning locations. I wasn't aware that it was open to the public. It is public land. But it holds a special.place in the realm of what it contains. The countless sites withing the range, many absolutely insane in their testament to the climbing skills of these ancient peoples. Truly are incredible! One can't help but assume it was more a life fraught with struggle and life threatening feats of climbing to inaccessible locations absolutely inaccessible come sunset and even in broad daylight only the most intrepid and daring would dain to attempt, unless the threats were far more severe than to not even attempt them to begin with! Thank you as always for taking us along for the absolute thrill and the unparalleled experience to witness it all!
yay! no more audio in German! I thought maybe Surfshark hijacked your channel. ;-) I will never understand how they were such amazing rock climbers way back then. AND I fully support and agree with you NOT disclosing these site locations.
I just barely got to the spot in the video when you were talking about locations and things of that sort you were so very respectful. I’ve been climbing since the 80s and out in some very beautiful places they need to stay that way :-)
Desert Drifter! As a family man, teacher and content creator I rarely have time to watch videos or do anything else. My time is consumed vastly, but I got to say I always find time to watch your videos. This is the first comment I post and I want to tell you that I like your style and thank you for the time you dedicate to your product. It’s always enjoyable to see your video and listen to your words. Until next time! Saludos y bendiciones! 🌵🌵🌵🌵

Wow a year already congrats Andrew sir. You've opened my eyes to the wonders of the desert. I'm unable to hike due to disabilites your channel's format is not as pretencious as some on YT down to earth and solid presentation kudos & His Blessings. Peace&Smiles
2:50 what kind of world are we living in where people say you're not allowed to walk on this earth with a backpack?? Unbelievable. Something about that doesn't set well with me.
@jimbe: I could understand it if there was a limit on how many days and the number of persons in the group just to keep from getting anything destroyed. That's about all I can figure out logically. If it's spiritual native American land and that's the reason, then there shouldn't be any backpacking into except for a very limited number of people in a registered scientific/anthropological group or tribal members/direct ancestors.
IMHO it's not about the backpack ( after all, he still carries his), but backpacking as in longer trip including camping in the area, which can be somewhat justifiably prohibited for various reasons like endangered wildlife protection, animal mating season, and so on...
@@Dusty_Den Oh definitely, although that one can be solved simply by banning fire/stoves... Then again, unnecessary broad bans enforced in situations that can be solved by specifically targeted rules aren't exactly unusual.
I admire your courage and immensely enjoy your videos.Your videos leaves me with a greater respect for those native people who called this home centuries ago.
Very good video Andrew. I have been there to that very special spot on the map two years ago. I did not climb up there so it was nice to see the arch up close. There is so much more there as you know. I do enjoy your adventures around the American southwest. I’m glad you don’t tell us wherever adventures takes you. Preserving the places so others can experience them is key! I’m getting too old to go to those places now so it’s fun for me to see them now.
I think I know where this is at but I will not say. I am pretty sure I have pictures of this formation from way down at the bottom looking up with a telephoto lens. And I think I knew the old guy that you talk about but even his name would give too much away. Thanks for your efforts and congratulations on your one year anniversary!
Congratulations on your 1-year anniversary for the channel!. This was a particularly enjoyable episode and production value keeps getting better and better. I also enjoyed your essay at the end. You're a very good writer. Greetings from Central Oregon and take care.
Andrew, I do not mind that you do not give specific locations of your videos, but at least you could let us know what state they're in. How would you like to look through an Arizona Highways or Nat Geo magazine and try to figure out what part of the country there shooting from if not stated. Other than that, you do a great job and I am a loyal watcher.
Congratulations! This is your best video to date on your 1 yr. Anniversary! Absolutely loved the flute playing with the drone shots... Amazing!! I've been a loyal watcher from the beginning as I am disabled and I love hiking with you each week. Thank you for allowing me to go places I can't in my own body!
Congratulations on your one year! And I believe I’ve been with you almost the entire year and enjoying every one of these. Especially since I can’t go do any of it anymore. So thank you very much and continue to be safe. I don’t want you to get hurt, especially offer one of those high cliffs.
Your adventures are so inspiring and validating for my soul’s calling. Following the death of my husband in 2023 I was catapulted on a spiritual odyssey and listening to my inner voice …prompted me to begin exploration of the Southwest. I’ve always been drawn to petroglyphs and ancient sites ..Ive been to several prominent sites; A trip down the Grand Canyon, Visits to Chaco and Mesa Verde Canyons among other lesser known areas. I love to tag along with you on these explorations …and plan to be following your steps as I set on this winter on my 2nd year of Nomad life. Thank you and congratulations on your one year anniversary for these are quality and heartfelt videos ..they are a gift 🎁 to many.
Congratulations on your one year anniversary! 🏆🥇 Love your channel! Thank you for taking us along! Your photography is stunning! The drone footage gives us a birds eye view of the area which you never see if you are just hiking. I love your commentary. Thank you Andrew and the DD crew for fixing the audio! I’m all set to enjoy this special video!! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! 🦃 And Happy One Year Anniversary to Desert Drifter!
Happy Thanksgiving to you phlebgrl!
Camera work was great! Glad i dont have to climb that cliff. Geeze felt like i was there. Stay safe, cant wait for more😁💖💖💖💖
I found myself leaning into the high side of the narrow trail a couple of times. Very real!
@bobs7295 me too!
Once again Andrew, I'm so glad I found you, breathtaking, thank you.
Andrew, congrats! Your community has grown so rapidly because of the quality and content of your videos. We are simply a mirror…
Thank you for sharing your life and knowledge, and for letting this crone to vicariously live her youthful dreams… (Anthropology with focus on ancient civilizations of the Americas)
The truth is that they did the best they could with what they had.
I can say, this one made me more nervous then others, speaking as a grandmother! Lol
I can say, all those things you were wonder if you need more of, you are all those and more. Your whole being is very impressive, Happy Thanksgiveing!
Happy Thanksgiving to you too Debbie!
Once again thank you for taking us with you. I couldn’t agree more with you on not disclosing your location of your travels.
Phenomenally good job of recording and describing the characteristics of this beautiful historical site!
Congratulations on your one year anniversary Andrew! 🎉
Love your channel! I’m an avid hiker living in the SW, but I never get anywhere as deep as you do, you really find the most amazing places, and you take us with you. Thanks for doing such great work!
You have the best exploring videos
Those of us who would respect and leave untouched... I am no longer able to go where I used to go; do what I used to do. You take me with you. And thus far have left no stone unseen. You feed what once was. And I give thanks. 🙌🏼
It’s only been a year? It’s so wonderful to watch your adventures. You’ve taught me so much about the southwest. Thank you.
WOW ! First anniversary 😘 and you're this good already 😁 You're one of a kind and so appreciate you NOT giving out locations !!! Reached the end of my long distance hiking and I don't miss one video you do. Your hiking skills are amazing 🙏
Love how respectful you are to the past. God bless you.
Congrats on a year milestone!
Love your content. Thank you for taking all of us along on your adventures! Anyone else get nervous watching him climb up the steep parts? Be careful out there brother.
Your choice about locations is 100% thanks. 🤠
Andrew your channel is my favorite. You are someone I wish I was friends with. God Bless You and Yours. Greg
Congratulations on the 1 year anniversary! I have to say that your channel is my favorite and I so look forward to seeing your videos. Your narration is superb and so calming, I could listen to your voice forever. Good luck with your future.
You play so beautifully! Thank you for sharing.❤😮
Terrific video as always, Andrew 🎉 !!
Really Love your flute playing ❤ ! Please do More!!
My husband, who is half Cherokee, plays also.
The only languages available to me are Japanese & French .. ??
@@GreenTea3699 oh no...
I’m glad it worked for you. Unfortunately I’m having to chat with RUclips Support to try and figure out why some are having this issue still
I agree
@@Desert.Drifter bummer and how so very weird!
Yes!! It’s back and in English! Thanks for working hard to get it fixed. Excited to watch it now
Keep playing the flute in your videos. Beautiful!
Yes 🪈 ❤ !!
It's perfectly suited to the location, and beautiful.
Yes more Flute. Mabey play the music to accompany a whole video?🤔
I just barely got to the spot in the video when you were talking about locations and things of that sort you were so very respectful. I’ve been climbing since the 80s and out in some very beautiful places they need to stay that way :-)
One of the best channels I've found in a while 👍
Desert Drifter! 🌵🌵🌵🌵
Nice flute, I will be expecting Andrews top 10 flute renditions for Backcountry Serenades in the coming future. Love your work, and I'm still waiting for the cookbook!
You could incorporate your beautiful flute music 🎶 into the background for some of your videos ❤
@toncek9981 not to mention fire danger
@@Dusty_Den Oh definitely, although that one can be solved simply by banning fire/stoves... Then again, unnecessary broad bans enforced in situations that can be solved by specifically targeted rules aren't exactly unusual.
@toncek9981 yeah plus some people will just ignore them lol
Wow ,unbelievable, I didn't want to head back , that was breathtaking, what a journey, greetings and well wishes from Queensland Australia. TAKE CARE
Cant wait to watch this adventure through! 🙏🏼
100% worth it. Such an amazing piece of the past!
I admire your courage and immensely enjoy your videos.Your videos leaves me with a greater respect for those native people who called this home centuries ago.
Perfect timing,.Wondered what happened earlier when in German. From Scotland 🏴
Wilcox?
Congratulations on your 1-year anniversary for the channel!. This was a particularly enjoyable episode and production value keeps getting better and better. I also enjoyed your essay at the end. You're a very good writer. Greetings from Central Oregon and take care.
Andrew, I do not mind that you do not give specific locations of your videos, but at least you could let us know what state they're in. How would you like to look through an Arizona Highways or Nat Geo magazine and try to figure out what part of the country there shooting from if not stated. Other than that, you do a great job and I am a loyal watcher.
Those who know the Soutwest can easily tell this is a very big famous canyon in northern Utah.
@@dolls-er1bq Yep, Range Creek
Not hard to find via google.
Lots of articles in Smithsonian, Salt Lake Tribune, etc etc and famous cowboy Waldo. Well written books are available on this.
Man I felt your pain having to get back to your car. Since that hike was so hard to get there. Brutal....
And Happy Thanksgiving
Thank you
We really enjoy watching your explorations. Thank you for sharing your expierences and knowledge.
Woohoooo ENGLISH! THANK YOU!!!!
Yasss🎉
Congratulations. Your channel has become a favorite of mine. Many more years and a 1M subs.
Thanks for the arch, bro!
Just 1 of my top 10 favorite geological features made of stone!
Love your channel! Thank you for taking us along!
Your photography is stunning!
The drone footage gives us a birds eye view of the area which you never see if you are just hiking.
I love your commentary. A lot of the same thoughts run through my mind as you hike and were the same when I used to explore.
To me, these places were magical and still are.
Hope you continue your channel for many years!
😀💕💕💕💕👍👍👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Happy Thanksgiving to you Andrew and your family! 🦃🥮🍁🍂🥧
Happy Anniversary. Stay safe, as I enjoy your journeys, as all of us do.
Happy 1 year anniversary! I recently found your channel during a medical recovery. I can’t enough! I love your informative, interesting and inspiring videos. Relaxing scenery and great choice of music! Thanks!!
Perfect way to celebrate a year! Spent a day hiking through there back in August. Such a special place. Keep the videos coming!
You do an amazing job! Crazy only 1 year with all of the quality content! You actually reach the destination every episode! This is like 6099 years of Oak Island! Thank You!!!
Beautiful video, and thank you for being respectful when putting the artifacts back down. That is true class.
Congrats on one year! Woo hop! I started watching you a year ago but your videos were so good I didn't realize your channel was that new. I've told you before, you were my favorite desert videographer, still are. This was truly one of the most beautiful places I've seen you go. What I wouldn't give to be able to go with you on one of these hikes.
Thank you Jeff for taking us along on your adventures! 👍💕🙏🏻
I had no idea you channel was so young...
I must have one of your early subscribers ...
Happy Anniversary!
Keep up the excellent content !
Maybe some dinosaur sites or get into the giant people that lived in North America pre history...
Even Lincoln had interest in the Giants and talked out about them.
Or maybe Egyptians in the grand cannon... .
Good luck in everything!
One year? And you've shown us so much! I loved the time I got to spend in the SW desert. I miss it there. The hunt for ruins and rock art was so much fun! The best time of my life. The speculations you share are similar to my own. Thank you for not sharing locations! I'm so happy to go on adventures with you! Please keep making videos. And no more falling! Gosh!!
