- It was a fun project with my son making his first customer desk. We used mainly cedar wood for the base, sides and main cut pieces. Sweetgum wood was also used. For the pigment we used powered and liquid colors to accomplish the desired effect. It’s hard to really show the complexity of the colors mixed as you know it’s always better in person and not on camera :) thanks for watching

Beautiful desk. The cookies, did you put anything on them before the final resin top? Or did they turn out that way because of the liquid from that final pour?

Hi thank you for the compliment. And no worries I’m new to this myself still… I hear people call them all kind of names; slubs, cuts, slices, trunk cuts etc
After I ran them through planer I let them dry out a bit more, ideally you want to have 8% moisture or less as I was told. But I’m not too sure.. my reader says it was 4% then I used natural stain to bring it to life. Waited 4 days for it to completely dry and did my first thin coat of varnish first before pouring first coat of epoxy. Varnish prevents from small bubbles to appear in epoxy. Remember, cedar wood does not need a color stain as wood oil or thin layer of varnish would bring its natural colors out.. especially red
