few tips: 1. DONT use a scissor jack and go under the car! that's very dangerous! use jack stands and either put it under the pinch weld or the frame of the car. 2. when draining the oil if you take the oil cap off on the top of the engine it will help flow out and drain faster. 3. when you are filling up the oil you can poor it with the bottle side ways to make the oil flow out smoother to prevent a mess. 4. check the dipstick first before starting and get it obviously not empty and not to full. I usually do just a lil more between. then let it run to fill up the oil filter and check the oil again and fill it up if needed cause the oil will run through the filter
Please don't get under your car without ramps or jack stands. You're using a scissor jack and I actually had one fail on me before and my car fell on top of me. Be safe out there
Congrats on your success! The comments are excellent safety advice! I will add, when you check the oil level, pull out the oil dip stick. With a rag or paper towel, wipe off the deep stick tip ( up about 4 inches) then put it back in and pull it out and you will easily see what the oil level is. You are doing fantastic! Love your videos❤
As an actual mechanic, I will forever throw shade at AutoZone or car part stores because they think they're mechanics when they're actually not. They should've known you needed oil pliers and not a socket for your filter. You either have paper or container style filters. They get stuff wrong all the time. Also, I'd get a longer 14 wrench to allow leverage to make taking that drain bolt off way easier. I love seeing people doing this kinda stuff on their own.

@@isabelwicker Haha! Yeah, I'm bringing my car over bcuz hey, if anyone knows the correct procedure for an oil change at this point, it's you! 😂 As far as what you should do next, I'd say continue the car series lol. Or maybe change Lily's oil! 😂 Your cooking Shorts are funny too, so maybe cook or bake something new in a longer form video? I was cringing when you were yanking that sump plug and the car was shaking just being on a jack. It could very easily have dropped and crushed you. Very lucky escape, imo. Always use jack stands if you're going under a car. Never rely on the jack alone! Respect for doing this yourself, but always put safety first. Please!
@epicale873 Good on You! I understand this late, and You've probably already changed Your oil, but: I would recommend You watch videos(multiple times) on how to change the oil before you start. Also, call the service dept. of the respective dealership your vehicle's carmaker, and ask them for the capacity of your vehicle's crankcase. It will be helpful to know the displacement(size) of your engine ahead of time since some vehicle have multiple engine options for the same chassis. You'll need to know this for 2 reasons: 1) So you'll know ahead of time how much new oil to pour back into the engine without overfilling it(never overfill your crankcase as it can damage your engine with enough time) 2) You want to make sure your drain pan wont overflow when your draining the old oil. It's rare, but it can be a possibility esp. if your vehicle is a full sized truck that holds 6 or more quarts. Also, make sure to drive the car for a few miles and get it up to operating temperature before the oil change so the old oil drains out more thoroughly. Plus this will ensure that the old oil will take as much dirt & contaminants out with it when You drain the crankcase. Engine oil flows better when it's hot/very warm. When You're back from driving the car, let it sit for 5-10 mins. so the oil has time to drain down to the bottom of the engine before you drain it. And make sure to wear gloves to protect your skin. Some channels that You might find useful: Scotty Kilmer, Bradley's Garage, Chris Fix, Dave's Auto Center, Royalty Auto Service, Wrenching with Kenny. I hope You still find this information useful
Harbor Freight has a pretty good floor jack for around 100 bucks. I've been using Pittsburgh 1.5 racing floor jack, it's been making my job a whole lot easier. Also use jacks stands with it never trust a floor jack to hold the car it's only purpose is to lift it up.
Jesus christ i cringed so hard when she started using her foot thinking she was loosening the bolt but shes literally tightening it 😫 oh dear god, i havent finished watching but id be shocked if you didnt fuck up your oil pan.
You did it! Good job. I had my doubts. I will follow you. Word of caution, like others mentioned, more people have been crushed under their car using flimsy scissor jacks like that. That jack is meant for emergency tire change in which you don't go under the car. You should get a couple of jack stands and have them in place before getting under the car to be safe. Better yet is to get a good floor jack too, Harbor Freight has good ones.
I’m so glad I know this now, thank God nothing happened! I’ll definitely need to get some of those jack stands you mentioned. Thank you for the comment!
You did a great job the only thing was that lots of time you were tightening it then losing it witch it was more difficult to loosing it when you were tightening it more. Overall it was i good video it reminds me when i was starting to be a mechanic. Good job keep those videos coming
Please Do Not Use Scissor Jack and going under the car it is Highly Very Dangerous. i remember when i changed Tyre 3 times i used these jack the car fell, lucky i was not under the car. please always use trolley jack and axle stands. also the engine oil sump plug only opens anti clockwise and to tighten clockwise. rachet and socket is best for these nuts,. never overtight these oil nuts.
its better to break the oil pan bolt loose and then loosen it by hand so you don't drop it in the oil, wont get your hand dirty if you pull away quick at the end. maybe just a bit on finger tips. that tool you didnt know is a Ratchet. the black circle on the back switches which way it works, for tightening or to loosen something. if you buy a 14mm socket for it (probably a half inch or 3/8 drive, the square part on the head) then itll make it easier to take bolts off. you dont really need it if youre only doing oil changes since its only one but itll save you time from having to reset the wrench since you just turn it the other way and itll spin and click. for the oil levels on the dip stick it just has to be in the min and max dots. pull it out wipe it clean, insert it for 2-3 seconds, pull it out and look at the line of oil on the stick.
Make sureeee to tighten everything back up because when you drive and hit bumps it loosens all bolts and undercarriage importante parts!! not bad just remember, lefty loosey righty tighty!! and GET BETTER JACKS BECAUSE that sucker coulda dropped on you especially when you were kicking the tires with your foot!!
Good job! Next time take some safety measure, don't let your car only on jack, take some extra jack stands or some ramps, it will even more space to work, and is safer. Proud of you !
Most people young or old will not do this job. I know you have already heard it before, i too use to get under car with jack only when i was young, but you know now not to. Good job young lady.
Great job, Isa. If you look in your owner's manual in your glove box and look under capacities. There you will find the amount of oil in quarts your engine takes. That way you know how much to put back into your engine and be confident it is the right amount. And always as you did, replace the oil filter with every oil change. The oil filter needs to be hand tightened. As tight as possible with your hand. And when removing the oil filter, always remember to check and make sure the rubber gasket is still intact on the oil filter you have taken off. Sometimes they will stick to the engine. You don't have to worry, the gasket stayed in place when you removed the oil filter. The oil pan drain plug needs to be good and snug with your wrench. Not supper tight, just good and snug. You don't want your drain plug to unloosen and lose your oil. That would not be good. I enjoyed watching your determination to change your own oil. Now that you've done it once, it should be a piece of cake the next time. Oh, and another very important thing you should always do before going under a jacked-up car. Buy some safety jacks. If the car for some reason ever fell off the jack you used to lift the car, it could crush you. Thanks for sharing your first oil and filter change. You will be an inspiration to others, I'm sure. May the Lord bless you and your family.
