Danke, meine Herren! I’m happy you looked up ”S.D.” In the book!! My police bayo is “S.D. IV. 830”
Maybe something about Duesseldorf, but my bayo also came with a “rural” troddel! Great video!!
Hope to see you at the upcoming SOS!

Mr. Whitman, Greetings ! My interest in German Militaria was hatched about a year ago when a friend of mine showed me a Officers Dagger and a small flag sized approximately 2’ x 3’. I did some research on his items as he asked and helped him a little but did not find “YOU” until this week! I just want to tell you what a pleasure it has been this week finding your Web site and your RUclips videos. My interest in militaria is strong but I have concentrated more on the gun side! My reason for this comment is to thank you for your extra effort to teach people like me! Also your desire to help people in this hobby comes through very strong! You are a special individual and I hope to buy something from you soon but I really want to thank you for being a great teacher and super person! Best Personal Regards, Jim Mitchell, Vincent Alabama.

Thanks Tom!! Police Bayonets are undervalued as collectibles IMO. The quality and history behind these bayos is remarkable!

    Tom,
I too love cigarette case and love your collection. You are absolutely correct in saying that Mercedes piece deserves to be in a German aviation museum after you are done with it. You have many of the great early German aviators of the Great War. It really is a stunner to those who can appreciate it.

Greetings Mr., Wittmann, thank you for posting always so interesting, I have to say there is a panzer collector who is losing his mind over that Wittmann cigarette case. Get ready for lots of offers for that awesome item. Look forward to the show in November provided the election goes ok. Cheers Jeffery Richards collector

I also have a police bayonet , cut down Weimar to 3rd R length marked SD VII 78 . (as I understand Dusseldorf district seven weapon number 78) yours is 183 . same maker too. The officers who wore them might have been on duty together( I fancy they might have even been vigilant on patrol because of the mass murderer rapist and arsonist Peter "The monster of Dusseldorf" Kurten) . Your bayonet now in New Jersey , mine in Melbourne Australia . Something to ponder on heh!

All very nice pieces as per usual. Oh & fun fact: Standardized German spelling (& standardized spelling in general) didn't come around till the end of the 18th century & wasn't even finalized into German law until 1998. Also if you want to understand why everybody did what they did in WW1 & 2 should read "Tragedy & Hope" by Carroll Quigley. Nothing is what it seems folks.
