So tired of misinformation. Retinol IS preventative skincare for aging.
Retinol is NOT just the skin surface. It encourages cellular turnover, production of collagen and elastin from all layers of our epidermis and dermis.
Koreans use alternatives like EGF, adenosine etc rather than retinol and it’s purely a cultural preference. Like western products don’t all have Ginseng. There’s no better or worse, it’s all personal preference!
YES!!! THIS COMMENT!! Literally retinol is an again preventive !!!!!
Aging***
funny bc retinol has been in korea since the 90s too 😭 it’s not even that rare there either like she makes out
YES.
YES
Retinol is also preventive lmfao
Yeah!! Exactly! I was just gonna comment on that. It's a long term use and long term effects on the skin. Lol.
LITERALLY
THIS.
YES!!
This is what we're stuck with in social media era. Everyone wants to be an "expert"
Retinol has decades of evidence-based research and studies that show the efficacy. It is not an “extreme measure” by any means. The emphasis on sun protection in Asian skincare is so important.
When she said retinol is an ‘extreme measure’ I just laughed. Retinol and all anti aging ingredients like Vit C are mostly preventative anyway, it’s hard to erase fine lines and wrinkles with topicals.
I’m so tired of Asian people like her acting like the skin they have is because of their skincare!!! It’s NOT it’s because of their diet through generations and their genes which has been affected by their diet. Yeah there is good Korean skincare out there but that’s not why Asians and Koreans have good skin 🤦♀️
She makes it sound like retinol is botox...
@@lilypond5158 Its crazy, cause retinol one of the most well researched skincare ingredients out there that is or should be a staple for everyone in one form or another.
Sun protection to prevent skin cancer and leathery skin wasn't even the primary goal: they just didn't want to get 'darker'. But that's another topic for another day.....🏃🏾♀️🏃🏾♀️🏃🏾♀️
Retinol is preventative. That’s why you are encouraged to begin using it in your early 20s. It’s deff not extreme
Thank you!
Yes, retinoids can
help to diminish fines lines by pushing skin
cell turnover - however this will never
thicken or strengthen the skin - its quiet the
opposite. Think of continually taking a layer
of skin off your face. This is not what our
skin/bodies are meant to do or be in this
constant state.
So yes, you'll see softer lines but you'll also
have the effects that come with it - some
sooner than others. The point of this post
is to let women who don't want that or the
toxicity to know there's many other options
& with all the additional benefits Retin A
cannot provide. As always, I say if it works
for your needs, & you're not open to
changing it up, then do what makes you
happy, that's what matters. It's not a post
for you, that's fine too.
@@BB-zw7me you're spreading misinformation without doing research, any skin thinning from retinol is temporary, in the long run it actually thickens skin
I'm 36, never used anything in my early 20s. Just took my makeup off with wipes. No one knows I'm 36. Most folks think I'm 27. My mom never took care of her skin until she was in her 40s. You'll be fine.
@@itskindofafunnystory...3237It’s your genes dude. What works for you won’t work for others.
You *are* literally saying “retinol is bad” by calling it “extreme” with “all sorts of side effects” in a tone that implies it’s a last resort we wouldn’t ever need if only we practiced a more holistic approach to skincare. Despite the fact that retinol is one of *the* most well researched, evidence-based ingredients for anti-aging and skin cell turnover (over the course of about a month), both as preventative and treatment measures. No need to put other people down because they do something differently. Korean skincare is different, yes. Korean skincare has arguably “better” ingredients especially in sunscreens than the US because it takes the FDA (sunscreen is considered a “drug”) an absurd amount of time to approve of ingredients so we’re (the US is) always behind when it comes to innovative ingredients in sunscreens. Yes. But you can also admit Korean skincare is behind when it comes to research involving vitamin A derivatives. No need to say it so condescendingly like “we’re not behind, we’re better.” You can be both. It’s not a bad thing.
That’s like saying you don’t go to the doctor because essential oils and celery juice make you invincible and untouched by age & disease
Now that's a reply! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Im fascinated by her shallow view 😂😂
you’re so right!!! i can’t believe what she’s saying, retinol is literally a preventative too??? decades of research behind it but she’s implying it’s harmful???
This. She’s not saying it’s bad, she’s saying it’s horrible 😂 all because she’s biased and has anecdotal evidence from her mom?
That's not what I heard. Ya'll are so dramatic! 😂 She's just giving the Korean view- that they prioritize prevention over age-repair. Relax.
Huge differences in race, climate, food, social class, cultural values.
YES to this comment. Sometimes a holistic approach isn’t enough. Different approaches works differently on each individual
Race ?
no melanin = faster aging, cultural diets = preventative aging, environmental factors = affects aging. Also “Race?” Is a silly way of asking a question.
Race is not real. Girl- we literally went over this a BILLION times. It's getting tiring and annoying.
@@hey.7sz more melanin= less vitamin d. Faster aging? Not if you live in the climate that your skin is adapted to.
Just accept that it’s genetics, because it is. I’m asian, my mom has never used anything prior to her late 30s, she’s in her 50s & she looks very young. Same with all my asian friends’ parents. No amount of korean skincare is gonna prevent aging than genetics itself.
Indeed. My mom is almost 60, and her skin is great. She never use any skincare or sunscreen. She has sun spots that's not overwhelming. She has a bit of crow feet showing up in her 50s. And she lose skin elasticity around her early 50s too. Only fine lines in her forehead.
Amen
My mom is 55 and she looks to be in her early 30s she uses nothing but a serum and a moisturizer and a cold cream she also never washes her face with a cleanser and just rinses with water in the morning.
Asian here. It really is genetics. My aunt is a smoker and has been since her twenties. She's 54 now, she looks like she's just turned 30 and has amazing skin it's insane. Holistically speaking, yes it does help your skin to be healthy all-over, but genetics really plays a big part of it. Retinol is good for some types of skin. But since it's such a strong active ingredient, it's not for everyone. She could have just said that.
@@juneannerubin Omg my Korean mom smokes too and it did no damage to her skin as well that’s why I believe it’s mostly genetics !
one thing I wanna point out is that she and her mom uses RETINOL too .They use Sulhwasoo products which contains retinol if you check the ingredients list in their website it's there alongside ginseng idk why she is saying they don't use it while they clearly do .
She never said they didn't use retinol. She is saying it is only within recently you are seeing retinol in Korean products because they emphasize the use of certain ingredients from inside out and sun protection. It's amazing how people can watch the same thing and repeat the wrong things . It is a fact that Asian and blacks age slowly compared to white. Genetics also plays a great part of everything in life. Your appearance, your health etc.
Therefore, wear your sun block, but do skin and overall health care inside out. And it would help with your aging skin.
@@lexaneli Even if you do bad stuff like drugs, genetics play a strong game. Whitney Huston looked f**king amazing just before her passing and she was sooo into coke

Girl, it's genetics, too.
I'm Mexican with Indigenous and Spanish ancestry. I have oily skin and enlarged pores. My friend, who is East Asian has better skin, meaning NO ENLARGED PORES. Despite that I wear more sunscreen than her, I double cleanse, wear masks, adapalene gel, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid moisturizer. She only has 4 products. Genetics play a part.
I have products from Korea, Mexico, and the US.
And that's okay too!
In my own skin journey, I am doing so much better than my full-blown acne face as a teenager, and that's all I ask for, growth!!!!
Mixed skin is wild because you can have the pros of one and the cons of another, or all the pros or all the cons.
East Asian skin has delayed aging; they don’t look wrinkly or saggy until suddenly they do. It’s just genes.
@@namedrop721 I think their skin sags but wrinkles are not there. Imo that’s how you can tell a lot of their ages.
we're similar girl! i hate my pores but they're written in our DNA!
I have enlarged pores too but latinos don't age as fast either I have very few wrinkles.
my arab friend washes her face once a week if she’s feeling spicy with a pan oxyl scrub. she doesn’t do skincare. that’s it. literally has airbrushed skin, zero pores, not a breakout in her life. my skin isn’t even clear after years of dedication to skincare, and my friends’ is worse still even after accutane. genetics is everything
Shes giving me the icks where she thinks Korean culture is superior to all other cultures💀
I think people can also view retinol and tretinoin usage as preventative care, especially if done at a relatively early age. It's not strictly just a product to be used when the 'damage' is already done. But for sure, retinols and tretinoin are not really a big thing in Korea esp for anti-aging.
Yeah. I'm 16 and I've already started haha.
Honestly I use tret for acne and it does make me feel a lot better knowing it’s gonna help me down the line too lol
I'm an Asian and my granny don't have any skincare but she look younger than her age. I think I inherited her genes since many people told me that I do look like a high schooler 😁. I think the majority in Asia is all about genes and not skincare.
That’s true, my grandmother also aged gracefully, I’m praying I inherited her genes because my mom did and both of us have a similar skin type. Another reason was she lived away in a village in India rather than coming to a city, she just loves the nature and hates the pollution. Her village is like in a middle of nowhere with lots of trees. Maybe I’ll be trying that. Maybe living in a forest area would help.
I know plenty of old people that lived in nature and are still sharp for their age. Nature does do a difference to your mood.
@@AwesomePikachu808 amazing! We currently live in a province, less pollution and healthy lifestyle. I guess we should priorities our way of living coz it will also affect our outside appearance. Many influencers persuade us to use different beauty products to prevent aging but the best way to avoid rapid aging is to make our lifestyle healthy.
Agreed! My grandma never had a skincare routine and my mom skincare routine is just cleanser and sometimes she uses moisturizer yet they never have a skin problem. Me myself always get mistaken as a high school kid although I’m almost 30 already. So yeahh skincare do help but genes also play a huge role too
It's skincare.
It's both 🙃. Genes are most important, but healthy lifestyle and basic non-irritating skincare helps. I also have good genes, early thirties but I look like a teen. My mom and grandma were the same. I'm white btw.
The prevention focused Korea is the same one with the highest rate of plastic surgery procedures procapite? Asking for a friend (that doesn't want to use retinol) lol
I literally have the same question 😅
Plastic surgery might be a "preventive aspect" in her opinion I guess!
Well, she is talking about skin, not about changing face details, those are two different things.
plastic surgery and skincare doesn't have anything to do with each other in Korea!!!
@@Blum7712 it's literally both, if someone is born with a pretty face, they have a good life style and healthy food to preserve the beauty, and maybe go to esthetician for skin programs, and of someone is born with a face thst isn't considered attractive the only choice left is surgery
@@lilypond5158t’s still a reach. People do plastic surgery to look different (bigger eyes, higher nose, V shaped chin). Those aren’t for younger looking skin or to prevent aging. Koreans/Asians look young anyways with or without treatments or surgery. It’s just genetics. Most surgery done in Korea is double eyelids by girls around 18-20. Come on, how is it relevant to retinol and skincare or looking younger
I know yall trying so hard to shade her, I don’t agree with her either about retinol. But this one aint a good argument. Just drop it
Honestly think the history of Colourism is a large part of why so many Asians have wonderful skin 😭 it's not something that needs to be ignored, it's honestly important to recognize and understand these things and acknowledge them!! Many east Asian cultures are obsessed with sunscreen and avoiding the sun not because it was always trendy, but because they wanted at all costs to avoid any tanning whatsoever and keep a very pale light skinned complexion. It's not really any other magic. Great genetics, and a culturally ingrained fear of sun rays is a pretty easy way to having great skin as u age.
Totally agree. I’m originally from India and the skin whitening industry is thriving over there. It’s genuinely sad sometimes.
@@cocob0l0yes, but (if I’m not mistaken) the difference of the colorism in East Asian countries (or just in SK) is that bc people with lighter complexions were associated with the royalty, since they didn’t tend to go out much (cuz obviously they didn’t need to)! Meanwhile, in other cultures it might be due to rac1sm, I suppose!
@@cocob0l0once I was recommended to the video of an Indian mom tutorial on how to make children’s skin lighter… It broke my heart! It is awful that not even in a mom’s heart their children are perfect from head to toes (and that is not me saying… I’m literally just saying what most moms from several cultures usually say about their children). She was aggressively scrubbing that baby boy’s skin with sugar or anything else we were supposed to eat (and not use on our skin) and, even though some other people who found out about that video were asking her to stop doing so and delete the video (for obvious safety and public health purposes), many Indian moms were replying those people and saying they didn’t care and would keep on doing so (they were also praising that “mom” for her tutorial)!! I hope this stops!! 😢
Honestly just came to the comments section for the eye roll and it didn't disappoint.
Yeah this video is a huge disappointment. Why can't people talk about what they do without bashing what other people do? Tell me what you use and why you like it. Don't give me any of your fear mongering. I use Korean skincare and i use retinol.
I don't know but lab muffin debunked those "extreme side effects" pretty well. I honestly think it's good genes🤷🏻♀️
Love lab muffin!!!
Since when did she debunk skin peeling, dry eyes, and overall skin sensitivity? Those are side effects as well and considering how gentle korean skincare is its not unlikely that this lady would see those side effects as extreme.
@@disneytoysr4fun975who has those side effects using retinol besides ppl with extremely sensitive skin ?
Guys I'm pretty sure her and her fam use skin treatments regularly as well as Botox. Don't buy into what you see online. South Korea has the highest rate of cosmetic procedures.
they most definitely are getting laser and ultrasound done, on top of regular professional facials. My mom has religiously used the best American and Asian skincare products for as long as I remember with no other treatments, except for a facial once a year, and while she looks great for her age, she would have to do the expensive laser and ultrasound treatments to look like Ava or Ava's mom smh
Exactly !! Also South Korea is like a major hub of plastic surgeries !
@@stephaniechiuthe fact that many of these women's foreheads don't move and they still say they only do laser once in a while.
In Korea clinic treatments are affordable and easily accessible which in my view is more important than retinol. A lot of the skin care has mild acids for exfoliation and cell turnover. Products were marketed with vitamin A way back, arguably before retinol use became mainstream. Additionally face masks, avoiding prolonged sun exposure and religiously using sunscreen helps. But ultimately, we do have good genes and more importantly, eat health consciously - for example lots of seaweed, tofu, herbal soups with bone broths which are said to be collagen rich. There is an obsession with fermented ingredients as well. I would say there are lots of factors involved but arguably avoiding sun exposure helps the most I think Dr Gray would agree.
I have a background in skincare to and retinol/tretinoin is great for way more than aging. It helps with acne, texture, pigmentation. It needs to be used hand-in-hand with sunscreen ofc, but it’s not extreme and a great alternative to other acne treatments. I’ve been using relatively light retinols since my early 20/ and it’s made a huge difference. It’s a great all-encompassing product.
Do you ever have to bump up the dosage of retinol? Or can you use a 0.1 - 0.5 forever?
@@Esoteraeon I’ve bumped it up as my skin can handle/needed it and when my skin is better I return lower dosages. I used prescription strength a few years ago to cure acne and skin issues I was having and now I am using a lower strength one for maintenance. When my skin concerns chance, then I bump up the dosage. In my experience a low dosage works great for preventing aging so far and keeping my skin texture smooth 😀
Many derms say the dosage doesn’t matter because after one year, before and after pictures with various dosages look the say. I use 0.025 and I do well on it, so I plan to stay on it. You can read various articles that talk about this phenomenon.
@@alexisgriffin2274 thanks for that! I figured it kind of seemed that way as I have just been using a lower dosage now and still reaping the same benefits without my skin being so dry!
You arent considering korean beauty products when you dismiss her claim of retinol being extreme. Korean products dont cause skin peeling and you dont have to pace yourself with them like you do retinoids. Korean beauty is all about the gentle approach. So yes, a retinol is extreme in her eyes because her skincare is the equivalent of using a gentle moisturizer.
It's definitely because of genes , no matter what it can't be that all the people in a country have good skin and all of them are crazy about skincare you guys owe it to your genes , and you should accept it it's the damn truth!
Because they don’t eat junk and it’s a part of Korean culture to teach children about skincare since an early age.
No it is not. It’s bc Asian skin is less prone to fine lines and wrinkles and tends to sag. Tretinoin is not as effective for skin sagging
@@ninoidgaf exactly , I just don't get it what's the problem in accepting that they have good genes , like do you wanna pretend "oh it was expensive and crazy skincare routine that brought me my glass skin!"

Im asian myself and the toxic culture that we as Asian always like to hide from the westerners is that we take “prevention” matter to a WHOLE another level…me growing up as an Asian girl was always told not to play outside under the sun because it can turn me Black/Dark. Parents (mothers, grandmas, aunts) are so obsess with avoiding the sun and making sure their daughters avoid the damn sun and scaring them with “your skin will be dark” method.
My husband has a dark skin tone and when our first child (our daughter) was born, yup all the Asian women that visited me were like No Worry No Worry nowadays there are a lot of whitening products…Don’t worry nowadays they have skin whitening that are very advance ….all because my daughter’s skin tone was dark like my husband.
People in the west assume that Asian people always wearing hats and umbrellas to avoid skin cancer LoL hell no we don’t care about skin cancer, they don’t wanna have dark skin.
So yes I agree with her we Asian women do take preventive anti aging/anti dark skin waaaaayyyyyy more extreme than people in the west lol
Thank you for the bluntness. When Asian people are called out for this colorism it's always "no no, it's to prevent aging"

90% of why Koreans have good skin is genes and diet

My theory is a lot of Asian skincare uses more fermentation products than prebiotic products like in America. When I had very irritated acne I noticed that asian skincare focused on healing the skin like moisturizing it and repairing it. Instead of drying it out with products or acutain

retinol IS preventative,
I genuinely think, the Asian culture of wanting fair skin is why we don’t age as fast. We were taught at a young age to wear sunscreen, long sleeves, and to stay out of the sun. While in the states people are putting on tanning lotion and baking in the sun. 🤷🏻♀️ plus genetics and having round face helps too.
True, tanning kills your skin
And is this “holistic living” in the room with us
Lololol
not sure what holistic living even means but when you have to work 50+ hours a week trying to make the end meet, living a holistic lifestyle is not an option lol

It’s genetics. I’m a Korean, never use skincare and my skin has always looked pretty much flawless. My mom is 100% Korean and she is 54, never used skincare until about a year ago (because I encouraged it) and she looks 35 at most. My dad, who’s European and 49, looks exactly his age even though he’s been the one doing holistic skincare for much longer than it has been acceptable socially for men to do so. It’s almost entirely genetics, and I’m glad I got my moms side of the genes.
Theres alot of Korean foods & herbs that are not popular in the west that are considered anti aging and health promoting because they can your change gene expression, ie. It's Genetic but via foods. People do not seem to understand holistic anything.

I am tired of “I am Korean” so trust me. Like it’s 1000000000% genes, like I have seen many East Asians who don’t even have a routine still look ten times younger than their age
One of my friends has been retinol for probably 25 years. Now that she is 70 her skin looks 20 years younger than others her age at least.
I think what she is saying is that the Korean approach is on a holistic level. The food they eat, their lifestyle, their habits. Compared to retinol which is a mitigation that is not natural and costs money and with possible side effects. Regardless of what the science says, it is still something extra to do other than focusing on being healthy overall (science also changes, what is good now might not be good tomorrow while living healthily is sustainable). It's also not something that most people can afford. So bottomline is, it's something extra that people can do without if they focus on being healthy. Retinol is just a choice, not a requirement.
I'm asian and my skin love tretinoin, it save my wallet from unnecessary skincare products like exfoliating pad, Buble cleanser, AHA BHA serum (they never worked on my blackheads). Tretinoin with the lowest concentration (0,025%) cost me less than $3 and give me better results than all asian skincare active I've been using for 10 years. And genetic do matter.
My dermatologist in korea prescribed me tretinoin/retinol since 2016; tbh maybe it’s bc different testing requirements in korea for allowing substances like retinol in dermacosmetics, accessibility, cost etc on top of lack of demand
used korean skincare since my early 20's I'm now in my 30's and although my skin isn't dry or full of acne like i wanted to avoid , I'm still aging , sagging, wrinkling etc, I've tried and used all the anti aging korean skincare in the world and yet nothing worked better for me than retinol.. because mpst korean skincare is for the surface, but retinol really brought out the plumpness i missed.
It's in genetics, admit it.
Retinoids are the only skincare product with more than 20 years old scientific research backing that it helps with collagen in our skin to maintain elasticity, obviously sunscreen, food and sleep are more important, genetics mainly as well, but if you’re comparing skincare regimes purely, it’s one of the only products with an evidence base of preventing aging properties to this extent
Being non Asian and having lived in Asia. Holistic is not a term I would use to describe skin care especially in Korea. The demand of skin lightening is extreme, plastic surgery (double eye lid), nose surgeries etc. And even if one little scratch appears on their hand they will run to the derm for laser treatment. Even the boys like to have a weird doll like look. It’s not holistic. Retinol use is pretty tame in comparison
Respectfully, you should double check. Retinol is recommended so much precisely because it is very gentle (this is why it doesnt require a prescription). Also because it is both preventative and curative for a wide range of skin issues. Lastly, its been exhuastively tested and backed by scientific evidence whereas botanicals like ginseng have only traditions and anecdotal evidence.
I think this epitomizes why you should always listen to a dermatologist, retinol is a form a vitamin A THAT PREVENTS AGING, stronger dosis, or tretinoids are the one used when you already have lines
Retinol can be very harsh especially if you have sensitive skin. I have dry sensitive skin and tried different ones and found my skin was not getting any better in terms of dryness. I dropped retinol and my skin is the best it’s ever been.
Its just their weather and food habits which has strengthened their genes more and there is no way u can achive asian like skin or any skin by just creams lotions u will need dermatologist for specific concerns
retinol is a preventative too? literally has decades of research? honestly take her advice with a pinch of salt lmfao i’ve seen her vouch for some horrific products so her implying retinol is bad is not surprising at all. “superfoods” is just a wellness industry marketing term also lol
Bro for real. Sucks cause I bet a lot of ppl follow her advice.
Yeah I feel like she doesn’t know what she is talking about and did not educate herself
@@wint4breez another youtuber i like made the same comments about retinol recently too 😬 blatant misinformation, it’s so easy to find all the clinical trials and studies on google. people who may benefit from retinols watch these videos and assume they know what they’re talking about too
retinol is preventive skincare, it is also the most scientifically backed (besides sunscreen) product for preventing wrinkles, and also for reversing any signs of aging. it can be a bit hard to use, and it's definitely something to work your way up with, but it is essentially one of the most important products for anti aging
Many, if not most, Koreans in Seoul also visit their dermatologist and/or receive laser treatments regularly- esp if they are 30+. holistic too, but they do a lot more there. I'm Korean, and it seems to be the norm when I visit Seoul.
I just accept that I'm ugly and going to age quick 😂
It is 100% a play of genetics. My parents do absolutely nothing, don’t even wear the basic moisturiser and sunscreen and have fantastic, radiant, resplendent skin. I on the other hand have to work a lot to achieve that kind of skin lol. A healthy lifestyle is imperative, but genetics plays a key role which one cannot dismiss.
My skin HATES American skincare but loves Korean and Japanese skincare.
She’s mixing up retinol with other retinoids, retinol is not an extreme measure, it’s the milder form of retinoic acid.
Y’all retinol isn’t something like normal lotion that you can start off wearing multiple times a day, each day. Dermatologists recommend starting in slow increments and building up weekly. Why do you think that? Bc if you do it wrong, it can hurt you. Y’all do your research before bashing on a girl for speaking the truth.
I would love a comprehensive guide on the holistic approach❤️
I have a problem with someone making it sound like ALL Koreans believe the same thing and do the same thing. That's a stereotype and stereotypes are insulting. I have known Koreans with awful skin. And they did all the things you mentioned. And I have known Koreans with flawless skin..thanks to Retin A, sunscreen, and old fashioned moisturizers who's main ingredient was Petroleum jelly.
Personally..I find Korean skincare making a lot of promises with very few results. They are usually loaded with silicone's..which temporarily make skin look and feel great..but as soon as you wash them off you are back to square one. Plus, silicone's block any beneficial ingredients from penetrating your skin.
Her knowledge of skincare, especially on retinol is embarrassing. And she runs a skincare RUclips channel 😂
Relax. Just point out her mistake without judging. There's enough negativity and hate in this world.
The fact that you think it's "embarrassing" says more about you than it does about her. You're projecting your own insecurity when you judge.
I know a guy from Ukraine who has the most perfect skin in the world: nearly no pores at all, super smooth, no red marks or anything with a light, warm brown colour. He doesn't do anything skincare related, drinks soft drinks regularly and eats frozen food, sometimes he get's just 4 hours of sleep. I'm so annoyed by those "you don't try hard enough" or "you just need the right approach" mindsets on skincare. I've seen so many asian girls cover up their "dark circles" that are barely visible, meanwhile I look like I got punched in the eyes and no amount of sunscreen or moisturizer or any korean food will magically make them disappear, it's genetics.
Everything she said is facts. You all better wear your sunblock, eat healthy, get your sleep, stress less, cut back on that high fat, oily food and more food that gives a health body overall, exercise, strength training as you agr you lose elasticity. Drink water.
It may be related to the makeup and clothes ?
I saw teenagers from america, they look so young if they don't make up on . I gave them my hoodie and pajamas , they said it's kinda childish to them. But they look so young and cute with those. And in average they are taller and have bigger apperances like nose, jawline and eyes so it make look more mature / older I guess.
And for skin, yeah I found it quite strange. They can't stop squeezing my cheeks (I am skinny but I've bubbly cheek and the texture is way more softer than them. I never thought that I've smooth and fair skin until they told me that . Because even my dad and mom who worked under sunlight for 30 years have the same skin (but more texture) as me. I don't do skincare. I wear only Thanakha since I was borned. I checked almost every elderies I know and yes they all have smooth skin but doesn't look young . And don't believe everything you see on the internet, Asians use filters a lot. In real life we have texture and pores too.
Retinol also prevents lmfao… I’m native American, my family members barely age (of course they age, but not so fast) and I still use it bc even though I’m a young lady Ik it will pay off more than just relying on my genes!
Btw, I don’t mean to hate (just clarifying any misinformations about the prevention part)!
I hate that dermatologist always promote retinol it’s so annoying
I'm a firm believer good skin from inside out ....your gut, stress, sleep, good eating, vitamins and minerals....
Retinol also used to treat acne.
Guys it really isn't genetics, have yall not seen korean skincare? They have WAY more amazing ingredients in every single product, they use way more products in a routine and even if they don't, their products are way higher quality. And they don't use retinol but they DO very often use BHA and AHA, which actually have quite similar effects to retinol.
I’m allergic to retinol my skin never gets use to it plus I have eczema. I’m allergic to most ingredients in sunscreen. Do I honestly don’t know what my options are. My skin is so sensitive.
Honestly the comment was valid. I think asians just have super genes when it comes to skin. If a european person like me were to live this holistic lifestyle and would use the exact same products as koreans, they would still look old lol. We just have different skin. Accept that it's ur genes hun
Korean skincare actually features alot of ester forms of vitamin A (retinols), specifically retinol is only 1 chemical formula available in skincare and whilst is the most commonly known name is not the actual true form available over the counter.
most commonly 5 forms are used which penetrate slightly differently and will affect different functions and layers within the skin and then you also move into plant based derivatives (which all convert to Retinaldyhydes and Retinals within the skin naturall)
These ester or derivative forms have the most potent antioxidant affect which has been repeatedly shown in literature to promote optimal cell function and health so it does feature retinol just not in the typical way it's marketed in the west.
Korean skincare and diet. Y’all eat so much collagen enriched foods. I wish i could lol
Retinol actually ended up making my skin look worse after a few years of using it. It look dull and dead after awhile
I also think it’s your diets that kimchi is a natural probiotic n gut health is essential as well for great skin.
I'm Indian. My mom is 48 but everyone thinks that she's 36 or 37.
Indian women are gorgeous lol. The ppl are so mad bcuz she is saying genes and lifestyle are very important aspects of skin like putting all these chemicals on ur face is not the best idea you cannot convince me as an asian otherwise lol
Its funnier bcuz look at all these yt celebs most of them age like milk and have a chemical skin care routine lol
@@sae311 I'm also talking about our good genes not all those chemicals
Genetics and healthy lifestyle plays a role. Retinol is a ❤ I’m Asian, 30 year old but I often look like 18 years old (even before I used retinol). I look younger than my Asian friends who’s 1-4 years younger than me. I started retinol almost a year ago and it’s so good! I love my skin. Healthy lifestyle plus a good skin care products is the what does the magic.
Here in dermatology in India, we do not prescribe topical retinol unless its grade 3 acne vulgaris. Its a face wash, night cream, sunscreen and occasional rose water mist for me. And of course, low on alcohol, no smoking, exercise 4 days a week and no overwhelming political discourse as is the case in the first world 😉
retinol is not "extreme measures" any more than double cleansing is
Retinol will become popular in korea one day. They already have products with retinol, mamonde for example. So just because it’s not there now doesn’t mean ppl hate it, koreans dont know they exist yet
thanks for saying this. was starting to doubt myself and get sucked into the idea that i neeeed to use retinol. i’m 23. it’s funny coz the best retinol i’ve ever used is a korean brand anyway. all american brands break me out. i’ll stick to what i use for now maybe in 5/6 years i’ll get to daily retinol
I agree with Korea. You have to take care from the inside of the problem not the top. That's better to see better results. ♡
Tretinoin is preventative. It thickens your skin which strengthens against future damage and decreases wrinkles you may already have. It's far more effective than ginseng.
@@metoo3342 Do the results last longer than Ginseng? Mostly when you age does it help with anti aging??
@@ellie_r Tretinoin directly increases the amount of collagen your skin makes so it helps at any age. Any anti aging benefits ginseng has Tretinoin does better.
@@metoo3342 Thanks for sharing.
@@ellie_r Tretinoin also removes & improves sun damage and wrinkles caused by the UV rays. It’s def not comparable at all to ginseng because tretinoin is prescription strength
It took me so long to finally start putting tretinoin in my skincare routine. I was a fraid of the “horror story “ everyone was talking about. Lucky for me it didn’t make my acne worst just a little dry skin under make up. After 5 months my skin never looked better. I even stopped wearing foundation. I just use tinted sunscreen ❤
Day two of asking if you could share your makeup and skincare routine from high school
@@mac9153 do smth with ur life instead of replying to my comments 😊
Girl who you kidding. When I was in Korea they even had huge plastic surgery ads for 70 YEAR OLDS!!!!!
I personally think that because our diet consists of more food that contains collagen, it can also play a huge part in the slow aging process , I think
I don’t use retinol. I feel good with it. I think, skincare should give good effect/results & I don’t like purging, breakouts. So i’d rather leave retinol.
I’m still in my early 30s and I have great genetics (when it comes to my skin) but I have to say, vitamin c has changed my skin so much! I feel like I’ve gotten an Rx. I use it at least once a week😍
I have noticed that asian women from chinese, japanese, and korean do start to have a Super Multi Step Skin Care Routine in preteens and carries on to their adult years that is why in my opinion asian women look soo young even in their mature years. I wish I would have been taught in my pre teen years how important skin care IS, throughout your whole life. Asian women have the beautiful skin in the world and their skin care routine is KEY.
My asian mom has never used skincare in her life but he always gets mistaken for bein in her 30s(she’s over 50) And she’s wanting to get into skincare so I bought her those jelly collagen things. I bought her skincare before and she hasn’t even used it but those jelly things are delicious and she loves them.
Korean skin care unknowingly just focus on moisturization and hydration which is good to prevent ageing
You see results with retinol. I guess if you have already perfect skin like her or the rest of her race, retinol can be looked down at as such but using ingredients like ginseng in k beauty skincare only goes so far.
Retinol is preventative skincare. Been using it most of the last 35 years. Been consistently using sunscreen for 40 years. No wrinkles on my 50 year old face.
So tired of this rhetoric from Korean influencers
Very agree!! I prefer Korean skincare that is mild and gentle but really glow up my skin💜
That's why you have such beautiful skin, just like you said prevention is more. I love Korean skin care so much more gentle on my skin. I just can't use retinol my skin is very sensitive.
I don’t use Retinol and I’m half Filipino 🙋🏽♀️. I use Sulwhasoo (Ginseng).
How do you use it? I mean like raw ginseng or ginseng-based products?
Is there any beauty foods or drinks that are recommended? I know the Korea diet has a lot of fermentation, which is a use plus. But the American diet doesn't really focus on the individual benefits of things
yeah. your right. I use retinol every night and I wake up with way too flakely and dry. I was confused . but here's my answer
I'm Middle Eastern I tried it once & it seemed too strong for me . I may search for alternatives.
I think people in Korea worries a lot more of their looks and skin. They have the highest plastic surgeries in the world. I think Koreans take much more extreme measures than anywhere in the world
