Today I changed my cake design to what you did here because I felt that the sash effect was far more appropriate around the sides of a graduation cake than my original idea. Thank you so much for this tutorial, it improved my cake!
Wonderful tutorial! I just subscribed to your channel. You remind me of my Mom's way of decorating cakes. She always amazed me. Every weekend she would have 1 or 2 wedding cakes going.. actually setting it all up during the week. She made the cakes from home. Watching her made it look easy. I kind of got the borders down, they just look ok, so I'll have to watch some more lol She tried to teach me how to make roses, I was a complete failure. She's been gone for 20 yrs now.. so, I have to watch tutorials. Thank you
Hi Victoria Clifford-Leopold! I do use store brought icing. However, it is bulk icing (35 pounds) from Sam's Club in the bakery and other suppliers. I use the small 15.6 ounce containers from the grocery store, for making chocolate borders and decorations. Often times, cake decorating supply stores will carry buttercream in a 7 pound container. When I started cake decorating, I made my own. Sometimes, you just have to experiment a little. Toni
Hi Toni!!!! I’m getting ready to learn how to do cakes and all of those amazing things!!! Your tutorial has helped me have an idea of where to begin!!!! I love to try new things!!!! I want to continue to learn more!!!
Thank you for this video. I was asked by my sister to bake my niece a birthday cake for her party (with 21 people). If my brother in law is there I will only know 3 people well 4 if her boyfriend is there. So all of these strangers will be eating my cake. I was hoping to find a video on making a shell border on the top & bottom of a sheet cake. I love your video. After seeing it I now feel confident about how to do the border. I am OCD & everything I do must be as close to perfect as humanly possible. That is also probably a reason my sister asked me to do the cake & she knows my niece loves my baking.
You are amazing! Tthis video is exactly what I needed. I am making a mothers day cake for my mom and I needed to see the technique on making the cake borders. I wish I saw this video before I went out and bought stuff.. I lack some of the material you have but I will make due. I am short on time but you gained a subscriber. Video liked and faved! Thanks again!
Hi Helen! I am an average cake decorator. The things I show you how to do on the videos are ideas and suggestions that were shown to me and I am sharing them with you. I have been very fortunate to have contact with many decorator's at different skill levels. One of my video goals is to inspire you to take some of the suggestions shown and build on them to showcase your talent and imagination! Toni
Hi Holly, I am happy you are enjoying the videos. I use bulk buttercream for the videos shown. I also experienced air bubbles in my buttercream icing. To reduce them in my icing, I always make sure the icing covers the top beater. Using a rubber spoon, I push the icing against the beater and make sure there are no large air pockets and mix it slowly. My icing is not always perfect, sometimes it is too soft and other times it is too stiff. I am hoping, you will find this helpful. Toni
Hello AshCash Whorley! Thank You! I am glad I am able to help. Don't give up! I made plenty of cake decorating mistakes along the way and still do. It is all part of the learning experience and cake decorating adventure! Have fun developing your new skill. Toni
Hi ms.toni! :) i love your sheet cake.. :) can you teach us how to make such a nice, very moist cake like that? :) i'm looking for this kind of cake.. Hope you can share your recipes with us. Thanks and more power! :)
Hi Mallory Butler! Thank you for your question. When I bake a cake, I use a box mix with pudding in it. The icing I used on the video is bulk icing from a bucket. I purchased it from Sam's Club, but I am sure you can find a "super store" in your hometown area. Toni
walmart has the big tub of wiltons for 12 something but dont get the creamy icing cause its terrible for decorating cakes fyi thank you fr the video this helps so much with the icer tip that I wasnt sure how to hold.
Oh my , Thank you thank you for the tips!!!!!! If I want to make a filling , i heard some people bake 2 bar pans, do you know how many cake boxes for bar pan???? I LOVE the tooth pick idea, i must make a baby shower cake for work , this really helped me. Thank you again , hello from Lancaster, Pennsylvania😊👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼❤️❤️❤️
Hello Lleana, Thank you for your question! I purchased my large cake scraper at Cook's Cake Decorating & Candy Supplies. They are located in West Allis, WI. Try using their web: cookscakeandcandy Remember to keep the beveled edge away from you. I hope this helps. Toni
Hi! Toni. I enjoyed watching you how you frost and decorate your cake. I learned another techniques from you. I like the tip of your piping bag it helps a lot to frost cake instantly. Is it only in amazon to order it? Thank you so much for sharing.♥️ and God Bless 🙏.
Hi Samuel DeAngelo! I purchased my easy icers from a cake decorating supply store named Cooks Cake Decorating & Supplies. The decorating tip you are looking for is also known as a # 200. You should be able to find it or order it from a cake decorating supply in your area.
Hey Toni! Love your videos! Do you have a recipe for your icing? It is perfect! I am having trouble getting the right consistency without air bubbles. Hope you can help!
Hi Ann Pollard! I am sorry you are having trouble watching this video. I have my own personal web page. Try watching it on cakestoyoututorials.com All the videos are there. Toni
Hello Juan G! Thank you for your question. I purchased the large cake scraper from cookscakeandcandy.com I hope this helps you to locate one. I use mine almost everyday. It is one of my favorite supplies. Toni
Hello Roxana Zavala! Thank you for your question. The bag I used in this video is a 24 inch disposable and the easy icer tip #200. Both can be bought at almost any craft store . The 24" disposable bag can also be found made out of heavy duty plastic and pastry cloth, which are hand washable and reusable . I found them at Michaeal's, JoAnn Fabrics and cake decorating supply stores. The easy icer tip is available under several brands such as Wilton #789 and DecoPac #200. I have found them at Meijer's and K-mart along with a variety of other craft and cake decorating supply stores. I hope this helps. Toni
Did you bake it in a straight edge pan or rounded? Mines rounded and it's difficult to get a straight edge when icing..unless I cut the sides which makes it much smaller:(
Hello JohnnyDeppforlifee! Thank you for your interest. I trim the edges of my cakes to get a straight edge. For me, it is just a habit. I like a nice clean edge on my cake. Toni
How large is your scraper?? I love that, but I can't find one anywhere that big! I even called Cooks Cake & Candy where you said you got it from, but the largest they said they had was about 5 inches. How many inches wide is yours?
Hello Ashley Allen! I am sorry you are having problems finding that scraper. I will try to find you another vendor and get back to you as soon as I can. Toni
I am sorry it took me so long to find you a different vendor. I recently went to Wine and Cakes located in Norfolk, VA. They carry a large plastic dough cutter manufactured by Fat Daddio's. It measures 7-5/8 inches long and 5-1/8 inches wide. It is white plastic and does not look like the one I am using in the video, but it should work just fine. However, this scraper WILL NOT be available until the middle of August 2016. That is when they will receive there next shipment of Fat Daddio's products. It is the best I can do for now. Toni
Hello Carmella Willis! Thank you for your interest in my supplies. I have an oversized oven in my home, so I am able to fit a full sheet cake pan in it. In this video, I prepared a half sheet cake and cut it in half. I wanted to demonstrate a standard 9 by 13 cake which is also known as a quarter sheet cake. I always trim the straight edges on my cakes. At home, many of my cake pans are Wilton. Some of the my pans do not have makers marks and some of them are 2 inches deep, others are 1 inch and three-quarters. I have made a sandcastle wedding cake using a combination standard cake pans along with empty soup cans to make the towers. You don't have to have a special pan to make an extraodinary cake. Toni
Hello m4288! Thank you for watching this video. I have a short video on how to remove air bubbles from bulk buttercream on my homepage cakestoyoututorials.com I hope it is solution you are looking for. Toni
Hello RL! Thank you for your interest in this cake. Everyone of my video's are a graduated skill level. This video is the basic border skill to make my baby shower cake. I have used this border on wedding shower cakes as well. I have 30 video's on youtube, which demonstrate different skill levels that build on each other. I hope you try a few! Toni
Terry Cox I think she uses bulk buttercream. You can find them at places like Costco or Sam's Club. She does have a video showing you how to refluff bulk buttercream. If you want a butter cream that white you'll have to use more vegetable shortening and beat the butter and shortening for a long time, like 5-10 minutes, it's all worth it though. It comes out so light and fluffy. Hope this helps!!
Affu Dolphin you can find them on Amazon or at almost all craft stores in the baking section, she's using a Wilton tip, I think Wilton is the only people who make the "Easy Icer". It truly is a time saver though!!
Hello Affu Dolphin! Thank you for your question. The easy icer tip, I used in this video can be found at almost any cake decorating or craft supply store. The tip is also available through Wilton products and other vendors. I hope this helps. Toni
Hello Affu Dolphin! I have found it at Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts. Cook's Cake Decorating and Can dy Supplies and Wine and Cake Supplies . The tip is the same just often identified by other numbers such as #200, #789 Wilton, and 790 ATE. I hope this will guide you. Toni
Hello again Samuel DeAngelo. I have another location for you to find an easy icer. Go to www.wineandcake.com Click on tools, then decorating tips/tube. Under this cake decorating supplier, the tip is refered to as #790 and called item #ATE90 for ordering. Toni
Esunshine hope Hello Esunshine hope! Thank you for your interest. I used a standard #102 rose tip to make the blue ruffle border. I hope this helps. Toni
