When I was working in fast food, a woman was hired who seemed really nice, but quite often wouldn't respond when you spoke to her. I've known a few hard of hearing folks, so I didn't think too much of it at first. But I noticed many of our coworkers starting to give her dirty looks & talking about her behind her back. Because I didn't want to jump to conclusions, I tested my theory by clearly speaking to her when she wasn't looking, and then getting her attention & repeating myself verbatim. The second time I spoke she always responded like it was the 1st time she'd heard me. I know how sensitive people can be about what they deem as their shortcomings, so I made a point of telling all my coworkers one by one what the actual issue was: that she wasn't rude, just hard of hearing & that if they wanted to speak to her they just needed to get her attention first. Everyone in the restaurant stopped having problems with her after that.
It can be very difficult not to assume malicious intent when people don't act the way we expect, but giving the benefit of the doubt is always best at the beginning. True narcissists will out, likely sooner when we do ;)

Some people are not hard of hearing but have a similar effect. It’s called hyper-focusing and if they’re doing a task they’re unable to hear anything people to say to them unless they get their attention first.

So the boss or his wife didn't simply pay a higher wage, but instead decided to go out and buy random food, bag it up, and leave it near the bins for anybody to find with no explanation.
    Makes perfect sense.

I’m glad the older man saw that the guard had a need, and responded with kindness. However, wouldn’t it have been truly beautiful if the employer had thought independently and kept an eye on the increasing cost of living expenses. By increasing his wage each year to at least keep up with the cost of groceries, they would helped him and his family to improve their lives and experience more dignity and freedom of choice.

    • @mortimerbrewster3671

No doubt, the boss would have provided quality food since it was probably part of what was in his own kitchen and if it was every day the employee probably got more value with the daily food than a raise would have provided.

@@simonevs020 Would it? You've got food every day. If you've ever tracked your spending you will see that groceries is one of the most expensive items you will spend your money on by the end of the year - especially a big family (which it sounded like he was feeding a larger family). To not have to buy groceries would be a huge boost to the rest of your budget to be able to spend on those "choice" things you would want. From the story, it sounds like the guard thought so as well since his life became a lot more comfortable once he started receiving the groceries.

Sorry, but how is this ridiculous load of crap a beautiful story? Dude works for a family that can afford and feels the need to employ a security guard. Man of the house sees the guard foraging in the family's trash and starts leaving him groceries so he doesn't have to go dumpster diving anymore. Why not just pay the man a living wage so his wife can buy the groceries they want? Hell, make it a decent wage so they can buy the kids some toys, put a little money away toward a rainy day, save for retirement, start an education fund for the children, and have an evening out now and then.
This is about a wealthy entitled family that is so out of touch with the reality of working people that they don't even know what a living wage is and don't care enough to find out. When they find one of their employees is having trouble making ends meet, rather then providing him a better wage by which he can improve life for his family, they instead keep him under their thumb by delivering just enough groceries to get them by.
The hearing problem doesn't make the employer any more sympathetic. He's hired a security guard, presumably to protect him at home, and never bothered to tell the man he was hard of hearing. This is something the guard would need to know to properly protect the man. Does he expect the guard to somehow psychically devine these details about him? How is he supposed to communicate with the employer in an emergency? What an arrogant POS!
And the wife and son are just as bad. They never gave him a raise, but continued to subjugate him and his family by giving him food instead of wages and just for good measure, pile on the humiliation of delivering it to his house for all the neighbours to see. What good is a sack of groceries if his child needs shoes? Pay him the money and let him decide what to spend *his money* on!
Even the security guard is a useless loser, though, otherwise he'd have asked for a raise or found a better job long before accepting groceries as charity from his employer became a thing.
Somebody really needs to rethink their idea of beautiful, and the purpose of 'charity' and just what it means to be a good person in general.

Mandassina. Amen. Don’t get me wrong. The story means well. But, it actually pays little attention to the msn who can’t feed his family and a ton of attention to the kindness of the rich. I think that’s silly.
Here’s a similar story. My mother was down on her luck. Her Brother in Law called her and said “I have a business prospect for you....” she stats leaving the house on her off day. She otherwise works a job and is trying to retire. For about a year, I had no idea what was going on.
Things started coming home with her. Old clothes, a beat up car, a 30 year old TV. Essentially stuff that goes into the trash for most people. One day I ask her “where is this stuff coming from?”. Turns out her sister caught wind she was still working and didn’t have a huge plan to retire.
So, they’d been “letting her clean their home” for 30 dollars a week and were giving her hand me downs that otherwise were going into the garbage.
I was appalled in that she did it to be close to her sister. She actually was LOSING money on those days to be a maid to these rich p***ks on an island. I said “you need to speak up”. When she did, they started to hold EVERYTHING over her head and even their kids rubbed their parents “charity” in her face.
It was an egregious, despicable show of “their money” they believed was the right thing to do. Just to tell everybody they were helping a down on her luck woman. At the yacht club. She lost a ton of dignity to which, when I brought that up, he replied “you’re not in position to have any”.
He died not too long ago. And while he was sometimes a nice man, to say knowing what he thought of me or my mother was low and degrading, I can’t say I feel overly bad for him.
TRUST ME. Sometimes people forget that sense of self is a strong virtue.....perhaps only second to sense of family. Very sad time in my life and I’m glad it’s over. Most certainly.

This is sweet and I admire the generosity, but ... from the description, this guy worked full time and still didn't earn enough to feed his family? That seems wrong. The widow was right to ask why the issue of wages never came up. Heck, I'll go one step further (since the story never actually mentions whether the raise happened) and ask why literally no one involved questioned whether someone working full time should have to rely on the charity of wealthy benefactors just to survive. Again, it's a very sweet story, and the reminder not to assume rudeness when someone may be deaf or hearing impaired is a valuable lesson, but it's troubling too.

People do care and show no emotions. This story teaches us to be grateful for whatever we have and share it, even a little with others without being proud or showy. Just Help without the need to be recognized or acknowledged. It would give us true happiness and make us humble.😊😊

I like this becoz someone is always care you without knowing you so that they show their love towards you without any expectation this is true love and empathy .त्याग तो वो है जो चीज आपके पास कमी हो और दूसरे को वही समान देकर आप खुश रहे उसे खुश देखकर ,and love towards anyone is without any expectation is true meaning of love . I know my english is not so good but I always try to say my true feelings toward it .😘😘😘😘😘

heart touching story. I cried a lot. In this world there are many people they are not getting enough food to eat and no shelter. We must not be selfish and greedy. Sometimes we must try to share whatever we have. We must be kind to the needy. Just like this company's woner. He was a kind hearted man. I am very grateful to this wonderful video. God bless you. 👌👌👏👏

One day I was driving down the highway and there was a truck with a flat tire on the shoulder with a elderly man and his wife just sitting in the truck, I pulled over to see if they needed help, the Man said his spare tire blew out when he lowered his Jack after changing his flat tire and didn't have enough money to buy a used tire, I had 4 new tires on my truck and a very good spare I was thinking about my parents stranded and since we were both driving Ford trucks I knew my spare would fit his truck, I gave it to him and took his rim and blown out tire, His wife had tears in her eyes when I told her husband all I wanted was a hand shake, I gave him my phone number and once I put his Jack back in his truck I drove off. 2 weeks later I got a phone call from their son thanking me for what I did and he asked me to meet him at a discount tire store in the area and he bought me a new spare tire and handed me a sealed envelope shook my hand and drove away I got back home and opened the envelope and there was 3 new 100.00 dollar bills in the there.
Always give help from the heart and good things will come back in time

I became a counsellor because in my younger years I was not always the nicest person in the world (perhaps the universe at times) and suffered some life threatening accidents (due to my own stupidity) including breaking my back (and getting golden staff) and having to have a bone graft from my hip making me six inches smaller (and I was not that tall to start with), a triple brain hemorrhage 18 months later (and getting SARS) and going into a coma for two months. All my family lives in the UK (I live in Australia) and they didn't exactly know where I was, and due to my lifestyle at the time I was all on my own.
During this time I must have died at least dozen times but I always came back. But I am sixty now with two university degrees in psychology and on my way to getting a diploma in counselling. I realised when I finally got my act together after more than thirty years of parties, drugs and drinking that I had survived and had finally made peace with my family (and myself), who welcomed me back with open loving arms after thirty years of silence on my part.
Now I thank God every day (sometimes out aloud) for my good fortune and know that I have been given a responsibility to put back what was given to me and to help those who have not had the good fortune I have. So thank you God for all your help and support as well as your understanding, and more importantly, for your patience. Now I live a life that is not just about survival, but is a life that does good and helps others to see if they can survive their own dark years, and now I feel more of a man as well as a better human being than I ever was.
So thank you God for all the help you have given me and the life I now live.

I could remind folk that tragic things happen, but faith through love overcomes, I reread 'The Heavenly Man' still timeless story of persecution of Believers and followers of Jesus, in China. And the Holy Spirit is operating through genuine folk. To be a pretender is unwise. Love wins.

I don’t understand why the employer did not just give him a salary increase. Getting a bag of food near the garbage bin can be demeaning while getting a salary increase would make the employee feel that he is valued rather than pitied. I think rewarding hard work by increasing salaries is so much better than giving occasional gifts. Gifts should be extra😂
