In this reality, I assume that the truce-through-trading-sons never happened. So, Mr. Miracle grew up in New Genesis, whereas Orion grew up in Apocalypse. Here's what I assume on what has happened in detail. Now, here's the tricky part. Orion apparently had a real positive impact on Darkseid (even in the original universe where they are enemies, Darkseid was ONLY proud of Orion among his children), and as a result, Darkseid tried to settle his difference with New Genesis by a well-meant royal wedding. At the same time, Orion never grew angst, since he lived quite a happy life (his interaction with Bekka indicated that he didn't have any anger issues, and always tried to settle the difference through peaceful means). On the other hand, Highfather was never humbled, since the child-exchange never took place. Given that, he became too power obsessed and arrogant, and looked down on EVERYONE who wasn't one of the New Gods (his comment about Orion proves that). As a result, he took the royal wedding as another opportunity to beat his enemy, instead of peaceful means. Here's my opinion: Orion really has a way of affecting people around him in positive ways.
Just one thing, if the child-exchange never took place, why is Big Barda siding with New Genesis? and why is Scott using his Mr. Miracle suit (other than making the cameo more obvious to the viewers?). Maybe they did trade sons, but Orion returned to Apokolips to live with his kin... who knows

The Red Wedding was more brutal only because in comic books original there are (almost) no women or children on Apokolips. In reality any planet or court of god (or monarchic ruler, or dictator) would have plenty of women and children. Gods & Monsters just didn't show you dozens or even hundreds throats slit... which they should have done if they wanted to destroy Darkseid's empire.
This was one of the few times I've ever seen Darkseid and Granny Goodness as actual, likable characters. When they were Ambushed, I had hoped Darkseid would at least take some of the attackers down.
You know what I really found interesting about this whole thing, it's not the High Father pulling a Tywin Lannister, it's that this version of Orion, was much nicer, way more than all the versions I've seen raised by Highfather. That Orion was an A-hole in a place filled with techno-hippies, for a lack of better term to describe them. This one, was romantic, kind, thoughtful, considerate. Makes you wonder if Orion is naturally violent or if it's just a Loki sort of situation.
Orion in the comics is always an angry dude because Darkseid's blood runs through his veins. It's basically his thing: the tortured warrior from a dark world raised by kind and gentle folk. It's not his fault that he was the spawn of an evil dark God, but he shows development and growth in the old Jack Kirby comics. Here's kind of a jerk with a heart of gold in later comics, especially in the New 52.
Orion is the only person that Darkseid can be said to "love", barring the 50 asterisks behind that word of course. If Orion ever did have an actual marriage, I could see Darkseid genuinely coming and being cordial about the whole affair and saving the evil schenanigans for afterward.
Why is this handful of new but really good and interesting DC movies getting overlooked lol? This and Assault on Arkham were way more interesting and engaging than the new Justice League Movies and the live-action films. Like damn, this scene gives me goosebumps and it deserves more attention!

This story shows us something very important that I haven't thought about before, not only shows us Wonder Woman's past, but we also see that in the fight between New Genesis and Apokolipse, basically the good guys Vs the bad guys in every other universe, Darkseid was whiling to accept a more pacific end to the conflict while High Father decided to use that moment of weakness to win in a definitive way, in this universe everyone's mortality is a lot less just black and white, everyone is the gray area.

I'd say that, since both planets were once the same, the logical conclusion to this storyline would be to have highfather acting like a tyrant trying to find a way to unite both planets and get the powers of the old gods, so it would probably involve killing or capturing the "local gods" like Zeus, Odin, H'ronmeer, Rao to take their power back. It would be an awesome opportunity to have the mythological characters get in the action (Amazons, Atlanteans...)
What I love about DC animated movies is that they aren't afraid to show violence. They don't shy away from death scenes or injuries. It makes the stakes so much higher and I appreciate it.

It looks to me like the shift in Orion's homeworld from New Genesis to Apokolips (in the "Gods and Monsters" timeline, he was never traded away to Highfather) changed how Darkseid and Highfather treated each other.
Why didn't she kill Highfather? He was powerless to stop her after she disarmed him! I kept shouting KILL HIM KILL HIM! Countless times, heroes and villains alike have made the same mistakes over and over! They let their enemies live! They allowed their foes to gather strength to become a grave threat!
Watzit Turah - I see your point there. But what if Bekka felt too disgusted by the slaughter to contribute to the bloodshed? She may be an accomplished warrior, but she is outnumbered by her equally strong people so there was little she could do. I don't know if you've seen the entire movie or the mini episodes, but these 'heroes' often use lethal force against their enemies, even major ones. It's quite refreshing.

In saying so, they should of waited til the newly wed couple were literaly out of the picture til they backstab them.
This is why highfather never acts cause if he took out all major threats there be no major stories in dc

Did anyone else think they would never feel sorry for Darkseid? I sure as hell didn't.
So I'm guessing High Father and Darkseid never did the ol switcheroo in this universe

Never thought I'd see Darkseid as a proud father. What next, is he gonna cry lava tears of joy?
It looks to me like the shift in Orion's homeworld from New Genesis to Apokolips (in the "Gods and Monsters" timeline, he was never traded away to Highfather) changed how Darkseid and Highfather treated each other.
Why didn't she kill Highfather? He was powerless to stop her after she disarmed him! I kept shouting KILL HIM KILL HIM! Countless times, heroes and villains alike have made the same mistakes over and over! They let their enemies live! They allowed their foes to gather strength to become a grave threat!
Watzit Turah - I see your point there. But what if Bekka felt too disgusted by the slaughter to contribute to the bloodshed? She may be an accomplished warrior, but she is outnumbered by her equally strong people so there was little she could do.
I don't know if you've seen the entire movie or the mini episodes, but these 'heroes' often use lethal force against their enemies, even major ones. It's quite refreshing.
