Yeah, most of the villains in Gotham entirely rely on Batman not breaking that rule. The specific reason batman *has* that rule is because he genuinely believes that if he ever started, he couldn't stop.

Except... the Punisher ALSO has a soft spot for children? 2/3 of his whole motivation for doing what he does is his kids. And in numerous stories, he goes out of his way to protect and comfort children... even giving one the option to kill him as revenge for being responsible for the kids father dying (even though it wasn't actually his fault). They actually adapted that story in part in the Punisher: War Zone movie... The only real differences between Batman and the Punisher are the no killing thing, and the money/gadgets. Punisher even has his own "Batfamily", in the shape of Amy Bendix (one of those kids I mentioned, and one who actually saved the Punisher's life), Rachel Cole Alves, Carlos Cruz, Microchip, Andy Lorimer, Henry Russo, Martin Soap, Molly von Richthofen, and others. Many of these characters have appeared in the Punisher movies and the various Netflix series, but never in the same capacity they appear in the comics... Red from Overly Sarcastic Production. If I remember correctly it was in her Trope Talk on "Realism". For those who don't want to watch it themself (you should. It's has insane amount of food for thoughts packed into 10 min video), she points out that the entire point of the Watchmen comic is "superheroes can get so lost in brutal world of crime they will get completely detached from reality of common people and everyday kindness" and almost every "Watchmen inspired" attempt to make superheroes "more realistic" completely misses this point. P.S. A bit of context - the video was released at 2016 when Snyder just released "Batman vs Superman" and trend of making DC comics more "grim dark and realistic" was at it's peak. And in the "batman conforting a dying child" quote she refers to "Justice League Animated Series" depiction of Batman. And a bit more context - there he "accepts" Amanda Waller's task to kill a superpowered child that had run away from the government control. Then he goes to comfort the girl instead. When you think about it, this "show for kids" is way darker than the entirety of BvS "grimdark" defined by everyone being jerks for no reasons

The relationship between batman and Joker was so beautiful in Lego Batman. I can't believe it took so long for Batman to finally say the three words every villain deserves to hear: I hate you
I guess the villain will be proud of it. Can there be a bigger accomplishment as being hated be one of the biggest and smartest hero of all time? That's why Batman never has the luxus to hate anyone. Then Batman would have truly lost.
I've always found it ironic that credibly threatening Batman tends to end up with a personal visit from Joker followed by a express lane to the afterlife via joker venom.
Well, even he said he won't let anyone else destroy Batman. I can imagine Joker going as far as working with the law, & Batfamily to get revenge if someone diddo him in, & of course double crossing everyone for a win only to be stopped by them, or an ally.
1. In every incarnation, Riddler always considered Batman his intellectual equal and wanted to prove he was the better. Even in Arkham Knight, when his identity was revealed, he didn’t even believe it. He considered it a trick from Batman. 2. It’s always just a job for Deadshot. He’s not like the other villains. He’s smart enough not to mess with Batman. 3. Darkseid considered himself a god. He never saw anyone, even Superman, his better. The fact a human could best him, not a godly alien, he could respect that. 4. Hugo’s obsession with Batman as an intellectual is similar to how Riddler sees him. But he doesn’t use tricks, he goes beyond that with psychological games. 5. Yin and Yang. Batman represents the greatest of good, the Joker the greatest of bad. Joker could never truly kill Batman. One could not exist without the other. But if he ever decided to kill him, in a way, it would kill himself.
Loved the video!💕 Just started my comic book collection and found Toon Haven. They offer a huge variety of digital comics for every genre, and lifetime updates too!😍
Bane’s entire purpose for fighting Batman is to prove that he is stronger than him, not out of hate but respect. They both want to stop crime, but what differs is their method of fighting crime. They both have a fundamental respect for each other’s views on the innocents of the world.
Bane and Batman are really one in the same ppl always talking about Joker and Batman being the same when Bane and Batman are so much alike they both trained hard and both lost there parents The different between the two is Batman took the Bat as a symbol of fear even tho he was scared of them while Bane when he saw the Bats he wanted to defeat the bat and show that he isn’t afraid of it that the reason why he went across the world just to Gotham to kick Batman ass Bane is the first person to beat Batman and find out that he was Bruce Wayne Bane does respect Batman tho if Bane really wanted to kill batman he would’ve a long time ago but he only broke him to show him that he stronger also there was a comic there they both took off there mask I think as a sign of respect and to fight man on man The way the writers treat Bane character now is so sad they just make him the big dumb muscle and nerf him so hard and they also stay changing his design to this huge monster look but maybe that was only the Arkham games tho at least in injustice 2 they gave him an amazing design
@Leo Peridot You thought wrong. Martian Manhunter read his mind and deduced Bruce was the best suited because he thought about what he would do if he had certain powers for that situation. That's why he was the one that used to dispatch them but then Mr. Terrific took over that role in the Watchtower.
@Leo Peridot It is stated that Bruce is the only human Superman fears. Batman could easily make himself a Super anytime and chooses to remain normal. Bruce has Kal'el's blood samples and could work something up with it to make himself a Super. Which is what he did when he injected himself with Doomsday's DNA samples to become The Devastator but in a different multiverse.
@Leo Peridot Ask the writers those type of questions so they can write a comic about it to answer your question or they can do a Q&A to answer them. Don't ask me, I wouldn't know since there are no comics showing us that.
@Leo Peridot lol still more believable than all superman's garbage powers that keep getting rebooted. Oh, now he's super smart, now he also knows kryptonian martial arts. lol give me a break.
Batman is my favorite DC hero of all time. He is just a man who represents the best of humanity, and how far we could go. A regular human that stands shoulder to shoulder with gods. People say that with prep time anyone could beat anyone, but I ask would they be able to? Ra’s Al Ghul said it himself. “Training means nothing. Will means everything!” This mans will is unbreakable. He is the Night. He is Vengeance. He is Batman.
Everyone must respect Batman yes, but nobody should ever disrespect John Constantine. Man has held his ground against Darkseid despite being outmatched a thousand times over.
One thing I find really interesting is that Joker is the only character in the entire DC multiverse that knows who Batman _really_ is, underneath the mask: Still Batman (just without his face). Everyone else, usually even some or all of the Batfamily, still seem to think that deep down, he's Bruce Wayne dressed up like a bat. But Joker is seemingly the only one who realises that Batman doesn't cover his face: The mask _is_ his face, because he's Batman even when he's dressed up like Bruce Wayne. -And all it took was Joker having his own face taken off to realise it. xD-
They sometimes know the name of the face behind the cowl, @Leo Peridot, yes. But they usually don't know that that name is the costume and the cowl is the _real_ Bruce, is what I'm getting at.
This gets confirmed in an episode of Batman Beyond where he states that he calls himself Batman even inside his head. Brude died along with his parent on that alley.
@@Garaman257 The riddler is a narcissist, he is not "too smart", he is just a bit above average and has good memory. Bruce Wayne present himself as a dumb playboy who only knows about party. I love the Harley series unmasking... Joker getting all butthurt... THEN GOING FULL KAREN OVER AN ELECTRIC CAR TEN SECONDS LATER "WHERES MY GODDAMN ELECTRIC CAR, BRUCE!?"
Basically penguin from batman returns. Even when batman took off his mask, penguin didn't even show the slightest acknowledgement and still wanted to kill him
It makes sense, because most of Batman's villains are mentally ill and genuinely need help. Helping some of them may be impossible, but that doesn't change the fact that they need help. It's similar with the Flash, and one of the reasons I like Flash's roster so much, even though most people rarely talk about them. People like Captain Cold and Captain Boomerang aren't really that different from Mr. Freeze or Poison Ivy. Batman doesn't kill partially because he knows it's wrong on principle, but also because, truthfully, he wants to help them. He doesn't want to kill Riddler or the Joker. In his perfect world, they'd either give up the super life or join the Justice League. Some versions of Batman articulate that, but I don't feel as though nearly enough of them do.
@Leo Peridot Okay, but none of that really changes the fact that, fundamentally, Bruce Wayne doesn't kill people because he doesn't believe anyone deserves to be killed. Whether that's right or wrong is irrelevant, it's simply a part of his character. You can layer a hundred miles worth of layered cynicism on top of it, but at his heart, Batman wants the Joker, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, and Harley Quinn to get better. He does not believe killing them would actually solve anything.
@@dionjaywoollaston1349 I won't say that isn't part of it, and with all the tens of thousands of comic stories that have been issued, I'm sure a Batman somewhere has explained it that way. There's a scene early in the DCAU movie "Batman: Hush" where after Batman has beaten Bane, Lady Shiva of the League of Assassins steps out of the shadows. She's not there to fight, but to ask if he knew anything about someone using a Lazarus pit without permission. In the course of the conversation she tells him "it was a pleasure to see you work."

In terms of respect, I prefer the comic book : the Funeral of Batman . All of the villlains come to it and each one give their respects with a great speach.
Yeah he's got one hell of a dark side. If he ever decided to go bad there would be nobody that could stop him. He would play good until he had everybody taken out and they wouldn't even know it. Not killing some of the villains he does though would mean you would have a lot of other blood on your hands. You could not actually make any difference if you did not take out the worst ones. No matter how many times he takes down the joker he always gets out. Killing him would just be considered self-defense And with all the people the joker is killed show me one attorney that would prosecute the man that killed him even if it was in cold blood. Not killing someone like the joker would be a major flaw in his character like I need to have somebody to take down all the time. In other words there has to be a reason for the Batman and that would be the only reason to leave the joker alive.

@@fuel4insanity6 Fun fact, originally, there was no drugs at all. In the original story, Talia and Bruce got married in an oasis, but very quickly agreed it could not work long term, and annulled their marriage soon after. It was later retconned into the rape we know of today, BECAUSE the author of the retcon, didn't know how Talia and Bruce were so consensually into each other. (Also he wanted to make Talia a full villian instead of the complicated grey character she was.) Also I don't think DC should have done that retcon because no story I have read that follows it, has EVER treated it with the seriousness that topic deserves. Batman becoming a victim of rape is not acknowledged and when it is, it's covered over with "but he would have wanted it anyways." (Fun fact: I absolutely HATE that scene in the "Son of Batman" movie. And following sequels where it's treated as a joke.)

The Batman from the 2000s was one of the best shows to ever exist, being second only to Batman TAS and standing tall alongside Batman Beyond. The cast was great as well. You may hate how its targeting young teens since many of their characters are basically 5-10 years younger than they should be, it was great to see Batman's beginning so to speak and how he got into the Justice League. I still prefer the old opening song over the throwback to the old adam west batman...its too corny for me. One of the best things about that show is the fact that the guy who voiced batman in The Batman (2000s) cartoon show also voiced Peter Parker/Spiderman in Spiderman Unlimited (2000s) cartoon. Shame that show got cancelled though. Its one of my most favorite suits.
I have all the DVDs of Batman the animated series. You're right completely I also have that man beyond the entire series. The one you are talking about is called the Batman I think. It wasn't bad either. I do like the new ones mainly because I enjoy Batman being a father to Damian. The one where Dick Grayson is the one that had to capture Damian to bring him in and he's got sliced marks all over and was pretty funny.
Batman: TAS > The Batman One was mature, the other aimed at kids. One show created Harley Quinn and redefined Mr. Freeze as a deep tragic character, the other contributed absolutly NOTHING to the Batman mythos. Your assertion that The Batman was the better show had been utterly destroyed.
Darkseid did not respect Batman, he respected human nature. Bruce showed him exactly how vindictive, petty, small, vengeful and more than capable of mutually assured destruction humans really are. Bruce told him explicitly that if you try to throw humankind over a bridge, they will always find a way to slip a rope around your ankles and drag you down with them. Damn humans, you damn yourself. How could he NOT be into that?
It's a shame they didn't keep Yin in The Batman. She could of been both a love intrest for Bruce and an ally for the Bat. Most Batman media eventually goes either too dark or too whimsical. The Batman was shaping up to be one of the rare ones to keep the balance of reality.

I noticed you cut out the part where darkseid said "You, a human, you'd kill your own kind to achieve victory" because I think that also shows the flaw in darkseids logic and opinion.
Tbf, his intimidation of goons, dangling off the edge of buildings, really is predicated on the fact that even though he has an iron clad rule not to kill, he seems to have a good knack at instilling the fear and confidence that he still COULD.
The fact Batman Dodged his Omega Beams alone tells you that is not just a Human lol. I think they throw that word around too vaguely. Batman is definitely a Super Human. Nothing about him is average, he's literally the world's strongest man amongst Humans without any powers or abilities. Can punch through concrete and be chillin, Lift up to a ton lol bats a low tier super soldier.
True, Batman isn't average but he's portrayed as at the peak of human physicality and the high tech Batsuits augment it further. Also it's fiction, they tend to take certain liberties.

I remember Batman breaking into tears when Catwoman almost died in combat with him. I remember how he has saved countless villains from certain death inspite of breaking them down in combat. That's why he's my favorite superhero, he's even stronger than any other superhero in the Justice league. And also his son Terry is a stronger batman than Bruce ever was cuz he laughed at the joker and beated him where Bruce didn't do in several times against joker.
Terry broke down the Joker with savage efficiency. Bruce Wayne had a lot of qualities that Terry lacked, like that genius intellect, but he was never a top shelf troll like Terry was right there.
Y'all do know that Terry is a genetically engineered Batman 2.0, right? He was born to be Batman, to inherit the mantle from Bruce and carry the Bat Lineage Beyond. The same could technically be said for Damien, but Waller's people are better at their jobs

To be fair, this isn't a Batman specific thing. DC villains are extremely reasonable/respectful a lot of the time and show respect to their heroes like 80% of the time.
Aye! Nice vid. Batman is so respected by his enemies it's crazy that rather than killing him more often than not they challenged him instead just to prove that they're better than Batman himself, physically or mentally.
The thing that really gets it is that with the Joker, a Love/Hate relationship is quite literal, especially in the ‘Flashpoint Paradox’. This version of the Joker is Martha Wayne while Batman is Thomas Wayne.
In Greek Mythology Artemis is the Goddess of Hunt and as we know Greek Gods have Roman Forms also and Artemis in Roman Form is Diana, although here in DC it's bit different.

Batman is the greatest Superhero of all time. A terrible tragedy happened to him but instead of letting the situation control him, he got up, stopped whining and took control of the situation and set meaningful goals for himself. Batman can own anything and everything and yet he chooses to spend his money on charity and on his mission as Batman to rid the world of crime sacrificing his body, health, joy and peace in the process. He is our collective rage at injustice and oppression. He is a man searching the dark alleys of his mind to bring balance to an unjust world. He is a social activist. When we step back to gaze long upon the great Batman tapestry, when we look for the common thread woven through it by Kane, Finger, Fox, O’Neil, Englehart, and that endless line of creators, those who have come and gone as well as those who are still weaving, what do we see? We see a hero. We see someone we’d want on our side, a figure we’d love to call forth from our shadows and hurl at those who would do us wrong. We see that part of ourselves that wants to scare all of life’s bullies away, and we like it. He is driven. He is like a revolutionary who stands up to tyrants or the activists who fight against great odds to make this world a better place. Out of tragedy, great good can arise.

P.S. A bit of context - the video was released at 2016 when Snyder just released "Batman vs Superman" and trend of making DC comics more "grim dark and realistic" was at it's peak.
And in the "batman conforting a dying child" quote she refers to "Justice League Animated Series" depiction of Batman.

It can be life threatening to get in the way of their game
Well, even he said he won't let anyone else destroy Batman. I can imagine Joker going as far as working with the law, & Batfamily to get revenge if someone diddo him in, & of course double crossing everyone for a win only to be stopped by them, or an ally.
its basically joker being yandere.

Exactly 💯!

Bane’s entire purpose for fighting Batman is to prove that he is stronger than him, not out of hate but respect. They both want to stop crime, but what differs is their method of fighting crime. They both have a fundamental respect for each other’s views on the innocents of the world.
How does Bane want to fight crime? He teams up with people who murder people for fun, and low tier criminals like thieves.
As a child bane had night terrors of a giant bat now, wanting To overcome the fear sees batman as that thing and wants to beat it
Bane? A crime fighter? He literally grew up in jail
Bane and Batman are really one in the same ppl always talking about Joker and Batman being the same when Bane and Batman are so much alike they both trained hard and both lost there parents
The different between the two is Batman took the Bat as a symbol of fear even tho he was scared of them while Bane when he saw the Bats he wanted to defeat the bat and show that he isn’t afraid of it that the reason why he went across the world just to Gotham to kick Batman ass
Bane is the first person to beat Batman and find out that he was Bruce Wayne Bane does respect Batman tho if Bane really wanted to kill batman he would’ve a long time ago but he only broke him to show him that he stronger also there was a comic there they both took off there mask I think as a sign of respect and to fight man on man
The way the writers treat Bane character now is so sad they just make him the big dumb muscle and nerf him so hard and they also stay changing his design to this huge monster look but maybe that was only the Arkham games tho at least in injustice 2 they gave him an amazing design
What? Bane from comics isn’t like that. But bane from the movie was terrible and not that deep
Deadshot not killing Batman in Suicide Squad had nothing to do with respect for Batman. He didn't want his daughter to see him kill. He respected her.
i thought the exact same thing!
You're right,mate...
And batman wasn't even going 100% in that fight because batman said he didn't want to do this infront of his daughter
Both could be true though, not saying it is but don’t dismiss the possibility.
That's exactly what I said lol
Literally Martian Manhunter said Batman is the leader because he makes them do things that Batman would do if he had their powers during a mission.
@Leo Peridot You thought wrong.
@Leo Peridot You read Dark Nights: Metal didn't you?
Earning Darkseid's respect in DC is like earning Megatron's respect in the Transformers. It's pretty DARN HARD.
Everyone must respect Batman yes, but nobody should ever disrespect John Constantine. Man has held his ground against Darkseid despite being outmatched a thousand times over.

@Anime Clips that’s cause john knows what he’s doing, on a mission without magic john would follow bats, but he isn’t there for those missions
The Riddler actually knows who Batman’s identity is. It’s mentioned in the comics that Edward knows, he’s honestly too smart not to know.
@@Garaman257 The riddler is a narcissist, he is not "too smart", he is just a bit above average and has good memory.

I kinda like the villains that don't even want to kill batman or know who he is, they just want to challenge him
Basically penguin from batman returns.

No matter how many times he takes down the joker he always gets out. Killing him would just be considered self-defense And with all the people the joker is killed show me one attorney that would prosecute the man that killed him even if it was in cold blood. Fun fact, originally, there was no drugs at all. (Also he wanted to make Talia a full villian instead of the complicated grey character she was.)
Also I don't think DC should have done that retcon because no story I have read that follows it, has EVER treated it with the seriousness that topic deserves. Batman becoming a victim of rape is not acknowledged and when it is, it's covered over with "but he would have wanted it anyways." The Batman from the 2000s was one of the best shows to ever exist, being second only to Batman TAS and standing tall alongside Batman Beyond. The cast was great as well. You may hate how its targeting young teens since many of their characters are basically 5-10 years younger than they should be, it was great to see Batman's beginning so to speak and how he got into the Justice League.

What, the show wasn’t even that good?
Batman: TAS > The Batman
One was mature, the other aimed at kids.
Arkham verse toddler(Riddler) is not exactly a good metric of him. Which is a shame as they got all others well
there's a certain number of people who actually fear Batman more than Superman.
Superman outright said that Batman was the most dangerous man on the planet.
Batman is dangerous enough that even the Yatuja (Predator race) eventually declared Earth, or at least Gotham, off limits to hunting.
"does the pain ever go away?"
"i wish i could say yes... but it gets better with time."
RIP Kevin Conroy.
Bats and Joker have one the most unique and compelling relationship I can think of. They are like conjoined twins that hate eachother but know one will die if the other is killed. Watching different writers tell this story through their own eyes is one great things I love about comics
I don't think he's stronger than the other JL members. But him being better than them is an understatement. He's the best in JL.
@@Elthenar I agree the previous Batman was always serious, Joker got flustered because the new Batman made fun of him, he couldn't stand that
Y'all do know that Terry is a genetically engineered Batman 2.0, right? He was born to be Batman, to inherit the mantle from Bruce and carry the Bat Lineage Beyond. The same could technically be said for Damien, but Waller's people are better at their jobs
Batman's badassery has no limit
1. I love how you made that edit right before Flash dropped that thug off the ledge.
2. Also you should check out the Deadshot chapter of the Batman anime Gotham Knight which takes place between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
3. In The Batman episode with The Justice League, it wasn't Strange that captured the League. It was the Joining. Alien race that Batman, Robin, Batgirl and The Martian Manhunter fought in a previous episode
Thank you for your compliment and honest feedback 😃🙌
@3:11 - "Floyd Lawton, known under the codename Deadshot, is an exceptional marksman and a hitman. He meets Batman in the "Justice League" TV series, movie "Suicide Squad", and also "Batman: Assault on Arkham".
He also met Batman in the last story of "Batman: Gotham Knight".
To be fair, this isn't a Batman specific thing. DC villains are extremely reasonable/respectful a lot of the time and show respect to their heroes like 80% of the time.
The Batman, no series will ever be as underrated as this one ever!
Batman's greatest power is not his wealth or, his intelligence, it's his unbreakable will and determination that makes him really dangerous
But with will and determination and no brains to direct it it is useless, it's a combination of these things
Joker's having an obsession over batman?
TRUE
Aye!
That Lego Batman scene was funny as hell. 🤣
As someone who went to school for film and has a passion for video and audio editing. 00:43 was a masterful audio edit
Thank You man
3:52 noooo ?🤷🏻♂️ he was respecting his daughter
9:22 i just realised that even though the pin in the grenade was pulled, the confidence spoon was still on...
“You had me at ‘shut up’”
A better love story than any romance the last 20 years
Roman?! Diana has her mythos steeped in the Greeks. NOT the Romans, yes, there is some influence. But it's mostly the Greeks.
In Greek Mythology Artemis is the Goddess of Hunt and as we know Greek Gods have Roman Forms also and Artemis in Roman Form is Diana, although here in DC it's bit different.
@@TopFlix
DC use a mishmash of RL mythology references.
In this exact case, Wonder Woman and the goddess Diana are completely separate characters.
It's comic book logic/lore also the Romans usually adapted cultures they absorbed/conquered which is why it's similar
Not to mention its been hinted at the Hades is her father. Hell, even in the Justice League movie the beacon was lit at the temple of Artemis, not the temple of Diana.
Finally a video going viral awesome man!
Thank You very much 😀
Batman is the greatest Superhero of all time.
A Great Analysis Brother 😎🔥
Man u have my respect... a true fan indeed is👍
→ "You had me at 'Shut up!'" ← That was the best line ever!
The "you had me at shutup" was funny and heartwarming for some reason😭
Batman doesn't have enemy,he has creepy/psycho fans.
He’s gotten the respect of pretty much the best villains in dc
Thats why darksied make batman his right hand in the last installment of DCAU
Yes that's right, In Justice League Apokolips War
(2020) Batman become the Supreme Commander of Darkseid's Armies addition to having Mobius Chair also.
Batman said: see wonder women over there? She's got some serious grip strength and if you know where this is going you better tall.
And that's why superman said:"you don't wanna know."
The respect between Ras al ghul and Batman is the pinnacle of respect from villian to batman.
Yea, that's 100% correct, he always called him detective and wanted to make Batman his Son-in Law, problem was I wasn't able to capture moments like in Video, must research more. Thank You for mentioning.
Thanks for giving me shoutout god will keep your channel first in youtube
I thought it was cool to see Darkside acknowledge batman being the first to dodge the omega beam
Lego Batman was just all levels of weird. And I loved every reference-packed second of it.
Great vid, but just major respect for actually including footage from Batman 2004, that show is mad underrated
Dude the 2004 “the Batman” show is so good man… it’s criminally underrated
