Moapa Peak | A Desert Classic with an Exposed Knife Edge

There’s not many people who will face their fears head on while at the same time overcoming physical pain to just try something different in life. Sonny Cheser is one of those people. And he doesn’t give up easily, even when every fiber of emotion in his head is telling him to quit. He’s not a climber, and because he suffered a catastrophic injury resulting in a deformed ankle, he’s never hiked over six miles in the mountains before. That changed on Moapa Peak.
What an inspiration to have him with me on this climb. The final section to the summit requires an exposed traverse along a knife edge with a 3,000 foot drop on both sides.
