It's 2020 and I bought this same 2012 StreetTriple in black and gold. This bike is by far the most fun I've ever had riding. The angry wasp look with the color scheme really makes my bike stand apart out on the rode. I've put over 6000 miles on in it in five months and every mile was memorable. Like you I would highly recommend buying this bike if you're lucky enough to see one come on the market.

Bikes are much better with out all the electronics, the simpler the better in my opinion, there’s a lot less to go wrong, great looking Machine, cheers Andy 👍

Agree also. I have a 2003 bike with nothing electronic. All analog. No abs or gear indicator (with the exception of a neutral light). There is something refreshing about getting on a bike, and just going. Not looking at your screen, no hunting through menus for the desired riding mode, no gasonline/petrol range, no limp mode, no fancy lights from a tft, no setting up bluetooth connections.

@@S01-k9zIts very common for cars to have some go faulty much sooner due to the electronics, and the idea of 'electronics = bad' bleed into motorcycles a fair bit too.
Overall though motorcycles are typically great with or without the electronics

Another great video Andy! I commented on your first street triple r video stating that your video was one of the things that help cement my want for one. 18 months later and I’ve just sold mine for exactly what I paid for it all that time ago. Was sad to see it go, absolutely fantastic bike ,an absolute riot, perfect power for the road, but buying ex’s out of houses had to take priority. Ever since then I can’t stop looking at what I fancy next!

I have an identical bike with almost identical modifications, and also bought mine from Laguna in June 2012. I agree wholeheartedly with your comments, it’s an absolutely fabulous motorcycle. I have test ridden countless other machines but none have ever tempted me away from the STR. It is, as you say, very much a future classic and I too have know intention of ever parting with it.

Snap! Same here until I fell under the siren song of the new KTM Duke 890R. As much as I dearly miss my Triumph, I'm loving the new KTM. Just hit the break-in and first service mark - being done in 2 days.

I love that you've kept this bike from new and continue to feature it on your channel. I opted for a new Street Triple R this year as my first "big bike" after passing my test last year and holding on to my 125 for a year, this was in part thanks to seeing your reviews and features on your bike and the modern equivalents.
The bike is amazing and I've no doubt I made the right choice, but I agree your bike has a better looking headlight setup and exhaust, but I was certain I wanted ABS.
BTW, you can still get the bar end mirrors, at least for the current models from a Triumph dealer, as I almost opted for them, but chose the heated grips instead.
I hope you keep the triple for years to come, its really an iconic bike.

I run a 2014 675R & it's the best road bike I've owned. The 16 mile early morning commute to work is a hoot down the local country lanes. Mine's also Phantom black but with a red sub frame & I reckon it's the best looking version, only electronics are ABS. It's a keeper & one day I plan on storing it in the house just so that I can look at it.
I'm planning on going touring on it next,,up to NW Scotland when the Corona restrictions get lifted.

I just bought the exact same one yesterday, after watching your videos for a while. I trained my DAS on a brand new 2023 mt07 yamaha, my street triple is 2011 and it feels better built than the mt07. Can't see the mt07 aging as well was main reason for getting the triumph. I have noticed the kickstand seems a little weak vs the mt07. Great reviews as always sir.

    Fab video. Beautiful bike.
I have a '61 plate I bought second hand. Be careful as they age. I've had a host of issues:
    - Coolant seal failure.
    - Exhaust rusting & blow.
    - Rear suspension linkage replacement.
    - Battery failure.
    - Electrical faults relating to the starter mechanism.
Bear in mind mine is 36k miles and the previous owner wasn't kind to it.
Would I buy another one? Hell yes. They're worth every penny.

Great little review, I own a red/black 2014 Street Triple R, I have 40.000 miles on the clock. faultless running, reliable, fast enough for me..( I'm 73) Handles well...A great Bike. I had the suspension sorted by a local race bike shop who set the bike up for my weight......A bit of juggling for road use, not track... Also I run the rear tyre ( Pirelli Diablo Rosa 2) at a slightly lower pressure. Here in Spain the roads are in better repair so running the suspension slightly harder is okay.... This is a superb motorcycle

I rode mine to Greece and back two years ago and thoroughly loved the experience. Especially around the Austrian Alps... where everyone had their big touring bikes and I could really have so much more fun on those amazing windy roads. As you said no issues. Completely agree with your assessment of this bike. I too have a 2012R, and also think this combination of the fox eye lights with the under seat pipes is the best looking of the Street Triple models. After 40 plus years on two wheels, and more than that number of bikes, this is one of my all-time favorites. I have been tempted to get another just to have a backup :-)

I had a 2014 Striple R that was a fantastic ride but a pain in the ass with constant electrical gremlins, horrible exhaust corrosion, and a crankcase oil leak that had to get replaced twice under warranty in the three years I owned it. It really soured me on the Triumph brand.
Again, when it was running it was bar none, but I got tired of thinking "what's gonna go wrong this month" in the back of my mind when riding it.

Still the cleanest most tidy Street Triple I have had the pleasure to see! A credit to your fanatical cleaning. The recall was in mid 2013 for the rubber parts of the indicators (all 4) they were changed on all Street, Speed, Tigers & Explorers as a precaution due to a faulty batch (went limp over time and snapped).

@@ianowens7519 Hi, I have actually seen this Bike before that procedure and I was commenting on that. The ceramic treatment will defiantly make it a lot easier to clean but you have to have a good condition Bike to start with. Ideally a new one. As you performed your magic on it in 2019 when it was seven years old I think Andy has done a sterling job in its upkeep. I have seen as I'm sure you have , many Bikes under 18 months old in a dire state with owners claiming they are mint..... Your detailing job and coating looks to be first class.

This one just popped up in the classifieds, seemed like a good deal & Loved the black paint, red wheels and the extra bits you get with the RX. (it was a run out model before they changed to the 765) I just bought it on the fact that no-one ever seems to not like Street Triples.Ridiculous I know but there's no bad reviews, the worst anyone say's about them is that the "headlamps polarise opinion". Bar that, the general opinion is they're one of the best bikes ever... ....Best decision I ever made. I love that bike!

I own a 2010 Street triple and I love it. Light , agile and no nothing of all sorts of ridermodes and frankly I do not miss any of these. This bike has such a good base and is so fun to ride. I have tested more comfortable, new bikes but none of them could wipe that smile of my face, when I rode home with my old streety. It is a hooligan and pulls like a train everywhere in the rev range
Own child , beautifull child....so I much prefer and have been looking to find an original round headlight triple, but I changed the clear lenses for black led projectors in the original chrome housings. It brought this bike to 2020 lookswise. It is also a black one and I have most of the accessories like yours. I had SC projects cans, but they are way to loud, so I went back to the original cans but I wrapped them black carbon with a nice street triple logo . And one of the best mods is my sargent seat.

I don't smoke and don't condone cigarettes, but I'd be very tempted to slap on some JPS stickers to give it that 80's Lotus/Norton vibe. I've mainly owned old/retro bikes and when I had a go on a mates triple it was the brakes that shocked me. I'd never thought it was possible to stop that quickly on a bike! Of course, having owned 70's honda's, I might not be the person who knows that much about braking power....

I think during this series you should rank your machines 1-6 on the basis of the one you'd least like to be without, or if you had to give one up which would go first then second and so on!!

Discovered your channel recently and definitely one of the best out there for biking, really informative, easy to watch. I am just about take the leap in motorcycling FINALLY after a failed attempt 10 years ago due to life, being in my early 40's i now feel im in the better frame of mind too now with kess chance if killing myself so quickly lol. As an experienced sensible rider who owns the very bike id like to get after passing my test. When i did my cbt 10 year aho i took to biking quite easily but still wary being completely inexperienced but do you think it would be a bit too much for a new rider. Im attracted to the street triples but the slighter later version with the longer 1st gear due to it being a very smooth power delivery from what ive seen and coming from car background but only owning straight 6's, v6's and v8's i prefer that smooth delivery as opposed to the sports bikes with that crazy top end power. Thanks for any help and congrats to getting it to the end of this comment lol

The street triple is quite a bit for a beginner bike, I would suggest the KTM 390 Duke (2017-) for a first bike instead

How much love can you give/ how much video’s can you make from a bike. But I totally understand. A watched all of you 675r vids, I have exactly the same bike (colours/arrows/...) and I really adore, I have been riddin several comparables (z900, MT09,duke690,...) they didnt came close 2 the overal riding experience, dont need any another bike, especially this 2012 model in phantom black&gold... bring on that new video flyer.

Nice bike! I have a 2012 Street Triple R in red since 2014. The only problem I've had with it is that the generator stator went out on it. $600 repair. Seems to be common problem on the old street triples. I love mine too! The old street triple is a hooligan bike indeed. Fun,fun motorcycle,

I got the same 2012 Phantom Black STR, and the only bike that I'll have over this one is a Tuono 1100 Factory... This could be the only one in substitution (when I'll be able to afford that) but, honestly, I can't imagine to sell it. Everytime I can get a ride it's a joyful experience! Ciao from Italia!!!

Truely a lovely 8 year old motorbike. Stripped down to the bare minimum, hooliganism at it’s finest. What struck me about this video, is your backyard landscaping. WOW, very much looking forward 🙏 to your trip to the States (Ga) to have a go at my yard. It’ll be fun and you can create all sorts of content. Thanks in advance. 👍🏼

Nice slice. I took a 2020 non RS for a test ride and was deeply disappointed with it. I thought maybe detuned for learner license but it wasn't. Ended up with BMW with 125nm of torque and still love riding it.

Argh, it makes me regret even more that I couldn't keep my 2012 Street Triple R last month when I bought my new KTM Duke 890R. Sadly, it had to go (garage space/wife). Mind you, I love the new Duke! Looking forward to your test of the 890 and fervently hoping you like it at least as well as the Triumph!

Any thoughts s3 vs duke 890r, which one do you prefer?

    • @portaltwo
      @portaltwo 3 года назад

@@SurfMusicGoodstuff If I had to pick all over again? No question, it has to be the Duke. The Striple was huge fun, but the KTM is such a sheer joy to ride. It makes a mediocre rider like me 'feel' like Jack Miller (not ride like him, but you get my drift). So confidence inspiring. Great and usable power and sounds terrific as well, with the optional Akropovic slip-on (that burble on the over-run alone 😁). Speaking of which, I got the exhaust, the quickshifter and the cruise control. If I were doing it again I'd definitely take the Akro and the cruise (surprisingly useful for a bit of relief on any decent straight stretch), but I might well pass on the QS. I find it a bit clunky and, regardless, I tend to ignore it unless I'm really accelerating hard anyway. Personal preference though. Hope this helps!

TheMissendenFlyer she lives in Moreton next to Thame. What you see on tv is not how she is at home that’s for sure. You would never believe she is a loner with many issues would you. She would sit and chat to me about biking and wanting to pass her test and she did. That was after getting rid of her partner who thought it was a stupid idea. I see Tony Hadley, Ken Bruce, Brendan Cole, Fiona Bruce, and Kerry Katona in Waitrose they are close.
