I really enjoy your content. Not only is it informative but your enthusiasm is infectious and endearing. You are adorable and I appreciate you sharing your plant journey with us 💚
Humidity for waroqueanum, especially standard forms, should be kept above 70. The other factors you mention could be contributing but I think the humidity is a big issue here. I can't grow my standard in less than 65 without crispiness. Since I've put in my tent which stays around 70/75 there's been no deterioration at all. I would also move out of they pot / medium so you can keep a closer eye on the roots and watering situation 🙂
My queen is thriving in 40% humidity. High Humidity is basically an insurance for plants that gets dried out too much so it isnt an issue for plants in semi hydro. its not a humidity issue, im thinking its bacterial or fungal which is very common with velvety anthurium leaves.
@@ajunsaquascape1916 yesss people dont believe me when I tell them I dont keep my queen in super high humidity. She does live in a cabinet with okay air flow and movement and around 50% humidity.
Don’t give up on your alocasia! Even if it died back just let it chill and wait for it to re grow and acclimate itself to your house! I did that with my polly and she’s thrivinnnggg 😍 it literally took about a year for anything to grow out of the pot once I finally lost the last leaf.
Omg even your dying plants manage to have beautiful mature leaves! Also - I feel you on anthurium roots reaching the reservoir and messing everything up. I think my new plan (after damaging a bunch of imports with edema 🙄) is to try to start using landscape fabric to prevent the roots from ever reaching directly into the water. If I remember - I’ll let you know how it goes!
@@kevin. I only thought of it because I recently made a giant terrarium and was told to put down landscaping fabric to keep the roots from reaching the false bottom where all the standing water will be. I was like - well if it works for terrariums, it might work for leca/pon 🤷🏼♀️

Also I got an el choco mailed to me and the person who shipped it over watered heavily before shipping it out. By the time I got it all roots had rotted and it lost like 4 leaves within a day. I tried leca and same thing. It took more leaves lol starting over is a pain but she's ok now in just spag. Good luck bc its such a beautiful plant. And please do not let the # of followers intimidate you. You really are an incredible person and your channel deserves far more attention than you get. You are my go to plant person. Period. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I had a new waterburyanum leaf come in tiny and crispy in the same way as yours. I think it was due sunlight hitting the leaf for an hour in the mornings. Moved the plant and the next leaf was fine. I also increased airflow in my plant room and anthuriums don't seem to get yellow spots/edges anymore. I have more luck with leca than pon. Good luck with your plant recovery. You got this.
I think the queen is overwatering issue! Having the same problem now with some of my anthuriums in pon. I don't have problems with using tap water though. I find my anthuriums that thrive most are in moss, added with bark, pumice, and charcoal:) Idk why my anthuriums in soil just grow so slow.
Yeah the yellow spots tell me it's over watering which means the roots are hanging out in the water reservoir 😬. Oh! What an interesting mix but it totes makes sense! 💚 Thank youuuu
When you peeped through the hole in the leaf 🤣😂. My El choco is doing exactly what yours is, the new growth seems to have died but the leaf is still alive. Fun video as always. 💚💚💚
I have my VSOH in pon! I have also done straight perlite. For the queen, I was told the humidity needs to be as consistent as possible, 50-70 is too much of a gap. Also struggling with mine!

I am so jealous you have a queen. I killed my baby months ago and I refuse to go back and get another. It was a chonk and it gave me 1 leaf then decided to die. I have no clue what I did but there were no roots to over water I had it in a humidity dome. Should I try again ? If you chop it I hope you show us :) also 72 thomsonii cuttings? I’m having issues with my waterburyanum too! Ugh came with two leaves and went yellow in a matter of 2 weeks. I showed it to someone on IG and the pattern on how it yellowed look like pest damage. Treated it like crazy for pest. Roots are good though so I stuck it in my greenhouse and hopefully it sorts itself out. My Queen gave me no issues but when I got it, I immediate put it in my greenhouse and now it’s putting out a new leaf. I definitely think it’s a humidity ho. All my plants are in lechuza pon btw. I have 3 el choco’s and I think they’re just high maintenance. They’re such slow growers then throws a fit if you change their environment. I finally got one to put out steady growth and the other one finally put out its second leaf. The big one is just taking up space. No new growth or roots ugh. And they’re in greenhouse real estate. Ungrateful 🥲
EDIT I do the moss and cling wrap trick on the top ALL the time. I used to wrap the whole top but when I would take it off, the roots would rot in the pot because it was used to high moisture due to the cling wrap, I learned to just wrap the base (moss and cling wrap) though to activate those lower nodes then push the roots into the substrate..and most of my plants are actively growing (even in winter)due to this (plus those roots are insurance just in case the ones in the pot rot) (setup is basement with no windows.
