Hi my name is Lilly and I am an American expat living on the island of Koh Samui in the gulf of Thailand for the last 9 years. My husband is Thai and his name is Wat. We have two boys named Luke and Leon and a new baby girl named Lyla. Nam is our Nanny and she is like family to us. She is from Myanmar and has worked for us for over 7 years.

No, it’s not bad that you want to be in the area where people of your background where you could speak and relate with. I am an Asian American living in USA for the last 50 years and it’s so good to have people from your background to talk to relate to I just love cosmopolitan areas it’s an indication place is prosperous and enriched with culture.

Great video! Lily can you do a video about Nam? Her story? How it works being a nanny in Thailand, does she get a regular day off and time off during the day? Vacation to go visit her family? know in Canada there are rules to insure these things for Nannie’s.
Nams passport was stolen by some Thai lady and they are trying to replace it. But it’s hard to contact her embassy
Being nanny/maid in thailand is 24/7 job.It's just like family member.vacation or day off are personal agreement between employer so that can be compromise.if not happy employee could quit anytime.So employer should make sure nanny/maid alway happy with family.
Not so true on the 24/7 rule. Most nanny/cook employees of a family, are usually entitled to get minimum one day off a week. Simple fair work human rights in Thailand and in the West.
Luke is just so entertaining. You’ll never be bored when he’s around. My guess is you’ll be saying that his whole life!

I remembered when Luke was 3 years old he was on a train speaking Thai to Nam fluently on the phone…telling her he cried a lot 😅. I was surprised he spoke so well then… I wonder if now he understands more Thai, than speaking

I love Chiang Mai because of it's simplicity and reasonable prices. You still can get food that is high quality. I also think that your hotel was just fine. For someone who is always on a budget, like myself, Chiang Mai would definitely by a place to go to. Love your children Lilly and Watt. When Lyla smiles my heart absolutely melts. I hope you're getting some great ideas for your restaurant. I'm sure it will be amazing when it opens. ❤❤❤❤

My best friend moved from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and opened a restaurant in her house. Her concept is one table per day. She wants to cook for friends and families. Doesn’t want to be tired that much. She is happy. Her place is called “Anjakin Villa” (อันจะกิน) which means wealthy.

Lilly, my cousin lives in Chiang Mai. Back in the 1970s she married a Thai man going to college in the Midwest US. He's a retired professor now. They have twin daughters a bit older than you. She grew up on a ranch in Eastern CO. I've enjoyed learning more about Thailand through your eyes.

He seldom accompanied her when she passed through Texas. She always had her twin girls with her. We know them quite well. They're well Americanized.
When she stopped by a few times during summer all of us cousins still in the family home area were too busy farming to spend much time entertaining.
We were all invited to visit Thailand, but family obligations didn't allow time. I might have gone, but every few yrs there would be coup and their King would be thrown out. Though she poo-poo-ed it as nothing, I wasn't interested in dodging an insurrection.

I love Chiang Mai…I stayed there for a few days and then went trekking in the mountains and jungle….riding on elephants and going down a river in the middle of the jungle on a bamboo raft! Lyla is growing so fast! The food as always,looks amazing ..good food is good for the soul (IMO). When I traveled about , I stayed away from tourist spots because I liked being with the natives, however, I am sure if I lived in another country , I would def miss my countrymen. For instance, Americans have an amazing sense of humor that a lot of countries do not embrace.

I never had a desire to see Thailand but Chang Mai has
changed my perspective. Inexpensive, people who speak my language, wonderful food and shops plus it looks like the internet is good and I can work from there. It’s going on my bucket list. Does anyone know if there’s an airport there?

I came to Chiang Mai 11 years ago and fell in love with the city. It has so much to offer especially if you're a creative person -- not just the digital nomads, but artistic endeavors of all sorts are first and foremost. Glad you and your family are enjoying!
